Assassins and Thieves
Chapter 14
Darkness shrouded Chrome's vision as she stood alone in it. It's as if the darkness was giving her a hug and the silence covered her ears to shadow her from the terror of this dark world. The girl would've been convinced that her eyes were closed, but her body and hands showed her otherwise. No thoughts were processed through her mind. Silence filled her brain. There were no whispers, no hums, and no thoughts. Everything was nothing in this dark and lonely world.
Slowly, her feet began to press forward. Putting a foot in front of the other, her thoughtless body began to walk slowly, so slow as if she was wary of what's hidden in the darkness. Whether she walked for minutes or hours, it felt like forever; this steady paced of walking in the dark. Nothing was changing. Chrome just walked in completely darkness and silence.
However, this silence was broken by a crack of voice. "Chrome!" it said cheerfully.
"Chrome!" it repeated again, and again, and again.
"Chrome!"
"Chrome!"
"Chrome!"
That cheerful voice had split into two voices. "Chrome!" the two voices laughed simultaneously. However, no thoughts processed through her mind still. No reaction and no emotion appeared on her face. No smile, no frown, she felt nothing. Her body just kept walking forward. The two childish voices came from every direction in the darkness. There were no direct sources to the two voices. "Chrome! Wait! Watch out!"
They attempted to warn her about the white lines forming cracks on the floor that the lone girl was walking on. However, she didn't seem to pay any attention to it. Her legs just continued walking until the floor shattered underneath her. The only reaction was her left hand reaching out and grabbed the ledge of the cliff out of pure reflex. "Chrome!" Both voices screamed worriedly.
"Take my hand!"
"Climb up!"
As if on cue, Chrome looked up and saw two right hands extended out to her. "Chrome!" The two voices cried out again, trying to grab her attention and as well as her hand. "Please!"
Another voice was heard in the mix. "Little Chrome." Papa? "Come on, little Chrome." Papa's voice!
"Don't listen to him, Chrome!" the two childish voices opposed smooth one. "Take our hands!"
"Come on now, little one. Listen to me." Papa's soft voice came from underneath her, in the abyss, "Fall down. Don't worry, I'll catch you." It promised.
"Chrome! Please don't!"
Chrome could see the two hands continued to extend out for her, but she made no effort to grab it. "Idiot! Grab my hand!" "Chrome, please! Don't fall!" The two voices begged in desperation.
"I'm right here, little Chrome," said her father's voice. "I'm right here."
"Pa…pa," an inaudible whisper escaped her lips as a tear slipped down her left cheek. Her hand released her life support, the black ledge of the cliff, instead of grabbing those extended hands.
"That's my girl," Papa's voice complimented as her body fell down into the dark abyss. However, her eyes never left those two hands still reaching out for her, still hoping.
"CHROME!" the voices screamed at her, nearly into a sob.
Chrome's eyes closed to face the darkness of her choice. Streams of tears now slid down both her cheeks.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
I'm so sorry.
Gon.
Killua.
