~~Independence~~

Wulf's POV words: 367

I didn't understand the halfa child sometimes. He was one of the most powerful ghosts out there. His territory was the entire city and all the humans that live in it. Most ghosts can't hold down a simple cave let alone a whole city.

Phantom could have chosen anywhere in the world as his home, but instead fought tooth and claw every day to keep this one. Danny could have gone to the ghost zone and created his own realm, the miasma of the Ghost Zone concentrating around the powerful child to form a space that suited him. Many ghosts in the Ghost Zone know of his power, and gladly would have served him in exchange for protection form more powerful ghosts. I told him as much, but he refused when I told him that the realm needed much of his presence to maintain and if he left it too long it would dissipate. Besides, I think the idea of other ghosts serving him made him uncomfortable, Frostbite and his clan was more than enough in his eyes.

What upset me the most was that the humans of Amity didn't understand that for them Phantom has sacrificed the most precious gift any creature can possess, his freedom. He bound himself to not the physical place, but the welfare of the beings that lived there. Their pains and sorrows are also his, giving him strength in battle and determination to succeed in all of his endeavors. But still he had his independence. No one forces him or controls him; he does what he will by his own decision and not the decision of any master. It makes his ties to the city more profound, for they are pure.

It was both my freedom and independence that the halfa child returned to me. Though I had attacked him and his friends, he returned to me that most precious gift. Once free I was able to fight against Walker and never have to listen to him again. My mind was able to clear and I don't have to obey even my own instincts any longer. Phantom might not know what true freedom is like, but thanks to him, I do.

Author's note:

My explanation as to why Wulf sounds so smart where in the show he isn't too bright: Being Walker's prisoner and enduring torture caused him to revert to more instinctual and basic forms of thought. The more time away from his former life, the clearer he is able to think.

Merry Christmas!
