Author's note
Phew! Talk about writers block. This chapter is really a bridge to when it gets interesting and I was just hopelessly stuck on what to write, but now it's done and I can finally start on the fun stuff!
Okay so recently I've started reading the manga and I'm up to date with everything so hopefully now the story can be a little more detailed, I've changed the prologue just a little so I can work on from that. This story will be based off the anime and the manga now, which may be a little confusing but I'll try my best to make sense of everything. I probably won't make this up to date with the manga though, I think if I did that Amaimon would have killed Rin long ago.
Okay FYI, I hate Call of Duty. I'd rather play Skyrim or Bioshock any day, but I didn't know what was out on the PS4 yet so I just used that. Plus I think that type of game would be right up Rin's alley tbh so I think everything worked out in the end.
Okay so on a side note that has nothing to do with this story, did you guys know Amaimon came second in the Ao No Exorcist character poll? I'm so proud of my bby, I even tried to honour him with art. wamee12 .tumblr tagged/amaimon
sorry okay I'm done, off to the story~
"Head shot!" Amaimon cheered, jumping in his seat with a large grin on his face. Rin growled; sinking into the cushions as he waited for himself to respawn for the 12th time in a row. He had originally thought that the earth king had no experience in gaming, which had been the first mistake out of many on his part.
Mistake number two had been when he had the great idea of being nice and go easy on the poor demon not wanting to destroy him to much on his first go. Not even a minute into the game Rin had his head blown off, blaming it on beginners luck had been mistake number three.
Fifth kill in a row Rin had finally realised how stupid he had been; deciding then to give it his full power he had finally gotten a couple of kills, though underestimating Amaimon had been his final mistake as he too stopped holding back and was now currently kicking Rin's ass.
"How the hell are you so good at this!?" Rin cursed as another grenade was thrown in his hiding place; blowing him up to smithereens, which lead to another fit of giggles from Amaimon.
"Aniue makes me play this if I'm getting in his way." Amaimon replied with a smile, blue eyes never leaving the oversized screen. "I've had practice." He shrugged as he stabbed Rin from behind.
"Well judging from how good you are you've obviously had a lot." The Okumura smirked at the image of an irritated Mephisto scrowling at an overly annoying Amaimon, constantly sending him away to play Call of Duty or whatever other games he owned.
"Why do you call him aniue by the way." He changed the subject whilst he searched for another spot, hopefully one he is able to snipe the other in.
"Hmm? Because he is my aniue, just like you're my otouto." Amaimon pouted in reply, confused why he was even asked; as if the answer was simple. Rin had noticed after a long week with the earth king that he tended to answer the question without really explaining anything at all. Which by now, only pissed the Okumura off.
He has never really had a proper conversation with Amaimon because of this now that he thought about it. Really, he has been spending all this time with a complete stranger who occasionally beats him up and calls him little brother.
"Whatever that means." Rin rolled his eyes at the other. He was just about to ask further into the subject when he finally got a kill; jumping up from the couch to point at Amaimon he cheered. "In your face!" Doing a victory dance before he sat back down Amaimon only shrugged before he again stabbed Rin in the back.
"That's it we're changing the game."
After a long game that fulfilled it's task in keeping the other entertained Rin thought it was time to start lunch, much to Amaimon's protest. But after Rin had reminded him that it doesn't take two to play a game and put on Assassin's Creed for him the earth demon was happy to let him go.
It was weird not fighting with the other for such a long period of time, well physically that is, there had been plenty of fighting in their game. Amaimon was even a worthy opponent, that guy had some serious skills with a controller, it had actually been...fun.
Rin laughed it off when opening the door to the kitchen. Amaimon hadn't even hit him out of anger when he lost a couple of matches in the second game they had played, he'd only demanded a re-match and blamed it on his controller or proclaimed that the game was acting up.
It was pretty funny to see that childish pout the other would make when Rin would only roll his eyes and laugh at his excuses. Rin smiled again at the thought only to then stop in his tracks and shake his head violently. He was actually getting along with Amaimon, who knew something as simple as a game console could fix all his problems.
In those short hours he had momentarily forgot his and Amaimon's history, they were enemies; Amaimon being someone who terrorised his friends just to get arise out of Rin. He hadn't even known why the earth king had chose to mess with him in the first place, he remembered some mention of satan or something but he hadn't been paying enough attention at the time; mind set on getting back his sword.
After that first encounter with the earth king, Rin had decided that he hated him; his feelings never changing after the next unpleasant meetings. So when he was able to happily sit in a room with the bastard and enjoy playing a game with him it came as a shock to the Okumura. Even thinking back to the time Amaimon had cooked them both dinner he hadn't minded that pointy head's company then either.
As annoying and insufferable Amaimon could be most of the time, Rin guessed his presence wasn't unbearable on occasions. He made a great opponent on the PlayStation after all and could cook a descent meal when he felt like it. When Amaimon wasn't bored or psychotic he was easier to be around, he still hated the bastard but at least his presence was tolerable. If things continued like that he was starting to think he would be able to get through the next three weeks.
Though he didn't get to excited, something as good as this wouldn't last. It wouldn't be long till' Amaimon got bored of the PlayStation too and started to torment poor Rin again, not even the television would keep the other's entertainment for long. He sighed dropping his head in defeat, he'd have to come up with something soon before it was too late.
Deciding this wasn't the time to think over the earth king however, Rin continued from where he had stopped at the door, only to stop again as he caught sight of a envelope that was placed conveniently at the centre of the table. Usually something like that wouldn't have caught the Okumura's attention, but when it was light pink and embellished with cartoon stickers of love hearts and what not even Rin had to stop and look, he didn't have to be a genius to know who it was from.
Picking said envelope up and opening it Rin could only cringe. "What the hell was that clown thinking writing in purple pen on pink paper? I can hardly see it." He squinted his blue eyes at the paper bringing it closer to try and make out the cursive writing. "Ugh, it even smells like flowers."
Dear Okumura-Kun~
To begin, for you may probably be wondering why I have left you a note; I will explain that it is because of what I have to tell you would have caused me unnecessary trouble with a certain stubborn earth king. And as you know I have no time for such things, as I am a busy man and coming here in the first place has cost me precious time in searching for evidence for said earth king.
Now on to the meaning to this letter. I have gone through the effort of setting up a barrier around your apartment, this barrier will stop Amaimon having his little field trips whenever you're not paying attention. yes yes you may thank me later, ah, the things I do for you!
Any who, Amaimon is going to have a little tantrum when he finds out about this though, so I wish you the best of luck when that happens, don't worry, I'll pay for any damage he makes.
Oh before I forget, this certain barrier only works when you're in the apartment, once you leave, Amaimon is too able to leave. It was the only way I could do it without trapping the two of you, you're both demons after all. So don't sneak off to your little friends leaving him here thinking he's under lock and key, he'd be gone in a heart beat.
Well I suppose that is all I have to tell you.
Regards, Mephisto Pheles.
p.s Don't forget what I have asked of you.
Rin blinked after he finished the note; eyes feeling sore after trying to read, he was now seeing the after image of green from looking at such a bright colour of pink for to long. Rubbing at his eyes he scrunched up the hideous note and threw it at the bin behind him; missing by a mile. Groaning in annoyance, Rin stomped to reclaim the note to successfully dispose of it.
Rin didn't know if he was happy or irritated, he was pleased because Mephisto had relieved him in the hassle of constantly watching out for Amaimon but he was irritated because he had also practically sent him to his grave. Of course that clown would leave me to deal with that psychotic broccoli. Rin was not looking forward to when Amaimon eventually figured out he was imprisoned with no way of escape.
If Amaimon reacted anything like he did the other night, Rin was sure he wouldn't be alive by the end of it. Seriously, Mephisto couldn't have given him like a shock collar or something? How the hell was he going to control such a powerful demon's temper tantrum?
He remembered the time at the Myou Dha sect where he had lost his temper with Bon, leading him to loose control and reveal his flames which had almost costed his life and gotten him exorcised. Shura had used that ring thing she had put on his tail to stop him from going to far, he remembered how much agony it was and had totally left him writhing on the floor; keeping him and his flames in check.
If only he had one of those he could use on Amaimon, then all his problems would just disappear. But there were two problems with that. One: where would he find one of those rings and two: how the hell would he be able to put it on him? It wasn't like he was able to take his off and use it on Amaimon instead.
Rin kicked the fridge before he swung it opened, irritated that things just couldn't be easy. He may hate Amaimon, but right now he hated that flamboyant clown called Mephisto even more. Yeah, he had gotten him all that entertainment but it was his fault he was in this mess in the first place. He even had the audacity to ask Rin to be patient with Amaimon, how much more patient did he have to be!?
Rin growled; scanning the fridge for any food he could make for lunch only to find butter and a half eaten chocolate bar that was left from Amaimon. He hadn't been out for a week and was lucky Amaimon had brought back some supplies when he'd been sneaking out, though they had been mostly junk food, sweets, and other unhealthy options. Now that they were out of everything he'd have to finally go out and stock up again, even if that meant he had to bring Amaimon.
He gulped closing the fridge door. "Well this should be fun."
Walking through his giant doors, Mephisto was greeted by his butler; asking him how his morning was and only receiving a curt reply, he was off to make his master some green tea. Mephisto then sighed, walking fully into his home and up the lengthy stairs to his study.
Sitting in his lush cushion chair he rubbed the back of his neck with fatigue. It had only turned twelve o'clock and already he was ready to lay down in his large bed, surrounded with soft body pillows and plushies of his favourite anime characters.
Usually Mephisto had some sort of strategic plan or idea with everything he had to deal with, but Amaimon's case was leaving him completely baffled. For the first time in centuries or maybe longer, Mephisto was left scratching his head and it annoyed him to no end.
The whole thing just didn't add up, there was no way that Amaimon could have or would have done the crime of murdering his students, yet all the signs pointed at him. He had even spoke to the witnesses in hopes that their description of the incident led him on some other path, but they had only explained Amaimon's appearance to a tee and left him pulling out his hair in frustration.
Really he wouldn't be trying this hard to justify his younger brother unless it was benefiting him in someway other then loosing a precious pawn, but if someone was killing his students and thought they were getting away with it by framing Amaimon they were surely mistaken.
He wouldn't have false accusations while there was someone out there messing with his school and students. Maybe this whole thing was in spite of Mephisto rather then Amaimon, but when he thought about it there was no one he knew skilled enough to pull off something like that.
"Come in." Mephisto spoke before his butler could even knock at the door to make his presence known. When his hot tea was placed beside him and his butler was dismissed, he pulled open his desk draw to pull out the files of Amaimon's case. Reading them over again for the billionth time in case he had missed something, anything that would set him on the right track.
Not only did this case leave him completely at a lost, Amaimon's sudden weakening had him rubbing his temples with a coming headache. He couldn't help but think the two were connected somehow but he just couldn't think of how they were, perhaps it was just a coincidence but to why Amaimon was getting weaker was still a question in need to be answered.
Setting the papers back into the mahogany draws he stood up from his seat, whatever it was it wasn't going to be answered by him just sitting and mopping at home. Clicking his fingers; a large white hat puffed atop of his head and he was out the door, green tea left untouched.
Amaimon was to entranced in climbing over buildings and stabbing people to really pay Rin any attention when he walked in from the kitchen, Rin was happy to see that the lounge room wasn't destroyed when he returned. Only when he sat beside the demon did Amaimon look up to the other, one eyebrow raised. "Where's the food?"
"There isn't any." Rin stated causing Amaimon to pout and pause the game.
"I'm hungry." He whined, throwing the controller harshly at the floor. Rin jumped in surprised from where he was reaching for his sneakers beside the couch; grabbing the shoes he turned to glare at the other.
"If you wreck that you won't be able to play any more." He warned, loosening his shoes so that he could put them on. "Anyway, we're going out to go get some, so stop acting so childish."
Amaimon mumbled something Rin wasn't able to catch as he stood up from the couch and he too, went to go put on his shoes. Once Rin was finished and had gotten a jacket from the closet he was ready to go, Amaimon however was still trying to buckle up his pointy boots.
"Come on, the shops are going to close by time you're done." Rin sighed, walking over to the earth king who had a look of determination on his face.
"Shut up." Amaimon growled when the buckle wouldn't click in. These shoes were always a hassle to get on, why he never really took them off, but he swore they were harder then usual to get on this time. He has had these shoes for awhile and maybe the buckle was starting to rust.
"Do you need help?"
"No!" Amaimon glared. "I can do it myself." Rin only rolled his eyes, ignoring the other's stubbornness, he knelt down before him; batting his hands away so he could buckle up the boot himself.
"Stop being so stubborn, it doesn't kill you to ask for a hand." Rin examined the shoe and found that the strap was stuck, loosening it, he was easily able to buckle the shoe up. "There, if you were being more gentle you could have done that yourself." He said before he got up to get Amaimon his jacket for him, ignoring the heated stare that was currently burning a hole at the back of his head.
Amaimon felt like he wanted to pummel his younger brother for making him look like a fool, wanted to smash all his bones for being able to do something he should have easily been able to do himself. The great earth king unable to buckle his own shoes and having to get his younger weaker brother to do it for him, staring back at his shoes he swallowed his anger. He was too hungry to really teach Rin a lesson at the moment.
He was still annoyed though, and knowing that Rin must be smugly smirking with his back turned towards the earth king made him want to pummel him even more. But again he was too hungry and if he killed Rin it meant no food, so begrudgingly he sat up from the wooden floors; brushing off dust from his pants.
"Oh hey look what Mephisto must have fixed while he was here." Rin smiled back towards the other holding up a leather tattered coat that was once destroyed from the fight with the Paladin. "Not much difference from before though." He laughed noting the shredded ends of the long coat as he chucked it over to Amaimon.
"Okay let's go." Rin announced.
Rin knew that shopping with Amaimon would be no walk in the park,he had prepared himself for the worst, even bringing kurikara with him in case anything went wrong. He was taking a dangerous high level demon who was under house arrest to the supermarket after all, or maybe he should say Rin arrest.
Rin let out a sigh as he once again had to pull Amaimon back from taking some sort of candy from some little kid that happened to be walking by, it happened to be one of those large lollipop swirls this time and his mother accusingly glared at the two of them when Amaimon had almost succeeded on getting his hands on it.
"Will you stop! I'll get you some sweets once we're there." Amaimon only huffed, yanking his arm away from Rin's tight grip in annoyance. Why couldn't he just take what he wanted, it wasn't his fault if they didn't like it, they shouldn't be eating in front of him when he was hungry in the first place.
"Are we there yet?" Amaimon yawned, starting to get bored of walking for so long.
"Just around the corner." Rin replied just as they turned said corner coming into view of a quaint supermarket just across the road from them. Amaimon smiled in excitement, finally he could eat. He ran across the road, just barely missing getting hit by a car that skidded out the way to crash in a watermelon stand instead.
Rin groaned, bringing his hand to pinch between his eyebrows. He really needed a leash or something.
Once Rin was finally done picking out everything they needed to stock up the fridge again and Amaimon had his handful of lollies he was ready to leave. The whole shopping experience was painful and just embarrassing, it was like taking a toddler out to the supermarket.
Amaimon would open boxes, steal more grapes then he should have which he didn't even eat but throw at random strangers, and would poke at every meat packaging in the whole supermarket. He was surprise that hadn't been kicked out.
But finally they were done, and the line at the cashier wasn't even that long. After all that Rin could finally relax, get back home, and cook a delicious lunch for the two of them. Opening his wallet to make sure he had enough change however was the downfall of Rin's plan, remembering that Mephisto forgot to pay him while was over this morning.
It was Rin's turn to make a scene as he threw his empty wallet to the ground, stomping on it as he cursed that bastard of a clown. He probably didn't pay him because he had decided to throw in a extra television for him when he had gotten him that PlayStation, nothing was free when it came to that clown after all.
He ignored the stares he was receiving and Amaimon's giggles as he picked up his wallet and pulled the trolley to place everything back to where it came from; continuing to curse Mephisto under his breath. Amaimon followed still laughing at Rin's expense.
"I hope you realise this means we get no food, right?" Rin growled, harshly placing a box of cereal back on it's shelf. Amaimon's laughter abruptly stopped, bringing his hands up to look at the handful of lollies he held. "Which means you need to put them back."
Instead of putting them back where they belonged, Amaimon threw them to the floor; crossing his arms and holding a look not much different from what Rin's had been when he found out he had no money.
Rin racked his hand through his raven hair, honestly, he was hungry and now he had to deal with a equally as hungry grumpy demon prince. Kneeling to the grimy floor he started to pick up the different variates of lollies without any help from the demon who had thrown them, he was just about done when he felt his phone vibrate in his back pocket.
Sitting up from the floor and dusting himself off, he reached for his phone and flipped it open. Heart skipping a beat when he saw he had a text from Sheimi. Smiling widely, mood suddenly picked up, he read it.
"Why are you smiling?" Amaimon pouted, feeling like he was missing something. When Rin didn't answer him he growled and with swift movement he knocked the surrounding boxes of cereal to the floor in hopes it would gain his little brother's attention. "Hey, don't ignore me."
Rin beamed at the message, his anger forgotten and suddenly feeling excited. Hurriedly he replied to the text, agreeing he would go. Not until he had already pressed send did he remember the earth king he was meant to be looking after.
He gulped, realising he couldn't just lock Amaimon in the apartment and just leave. The seal only worked when he was there with him, again something Mephisto must have done to cause him agony. But maybe he could take Amaimon with him? That way they both could eat and he guessed there was a lot of things they could do to keep him entertained. It couldn't be so bad, especially if he had his friends there to help.
Looking up from his phone his hopes had been crushed, seeing the trolley empty and all contents on the floor including some extra boxes of cereal with a pissed Amaimon glaring at him. Okay so maybe it wasn't such a good idea.
