Darrell stur and shiver in her sleep. The room was freezing! She snuggled even more into the red cape, but it wasn't enough. The floor underneath her body was cold and her body couldn't heat it up. Giving up, Darrell sat up but kept the cape on her. The room was lit with lanterns so Darrell was able to see where she was at.
She was still in the old theatre and the freaks were all asleep. The room was huge so it was able to house almost every freak that perform. was in his trailer and was in his coffin, which Darrell laid right next to. On the other side of the coffin was a small box, and Darrell knew that it was Madam Octa. Darrell dare not to remove the small cloth that was covering Madam Octa.
Having enough of the freezing room, Darrell quietly stood up, put on the cape and silently walked towards the exit. As she walked, she pass by the Twisted Twins, who were cuddling one another. Alexander Ribs was sleeping next to Twobellies, was laying next to Hans Hands and Truska. The snake boy was coiled up with his huge snake and the Wolfman was locked in his cage, deep in his sleep.
Darrell held her breath, afraid that she would wake up them up, especially the Wolfman. But as she reached the top of the stairs and into the hallway, Darrell sighed in relief. She calming walked down the hallway and out of the theatre. It was much warmer outside so Darrell removed the oversized cape. She looked at the cape and saw how the bottom got so dirty.
"Oops. Better clean that up before I give it back to ." She thought to herself before folding up the cape. Darrell looked down the streets, having the desire to venture a bit before heading down. "What if the cops spot me and return me back to the orphanage?" Darrell wondered in fear. "It would be best if I stay close to the theatre. No one ventures this far of this side of town." Darrell said as she walked down the street that the theatre is on.
The sun was up and Darrell guessed that it was around 10 in the morning. There was a couple of clouds in the sky but that didn't affected the sunshine. The birds were chirping and flying around. It seemed like the perfect day that Darrell has ever experience in her whole life. Darrell exhaled deeply and looked down the streets once more, remembering the route that takes her back to the school.
Darrell knew that it's a weekend, so Darren and Steve might be hanging out at the park, or sleeping in. Both of their homes are far away from the Orphanage, also far away from the theatre, almost an hour walk but a 20 - 30 minutes sprint. Darrell twitched as she stood still and continued to stare down the streets.
And the next thing Darrell knew, she was running through the streets, using the cape to cover her image and face. She didn't want anyone recognizing her, especially the fucktard and the cops. Darrell sticked to isolated areas, where hardly anyone was out. It was quite early, so some people would still be sleeping.
28 minutes gone by and Darrell reached Darren's home first. She got near the kitchen window, and didn't smell anything nor heard a sound. She went towards Darren's window, and even though it was on the second floor, she began to throw small rocks, almost the size of a pebble, at his window.
Darrell threw and threw, but there was no response. After 10 minutes of waiting, Darrell concluded that Darren slept over at Steve's place. Which made complete sense since they both arrived at the Cirque and Darren didn't had the guts to sneak out from his place at night, let alone the skills not to wake up his family in the process.
"Alright then, I'll just check Steve's place." Darrell spoke to herself as she turned away from the house and headed towards her other friend's home.
Steve's house wasn't far. It was walking distance. But still, Darrell didn't want to risk on being caught by the police. About 10 minutes and Darrell reached Steve's home. Even though it was early, she could smell something cooking for the kitchen window was opened. The mother was awake, but Darren and Steve will most likely be sleeping in. Darrell has only been in Steve's house only twice. But she clearly remembers which bedroom window was his.
Once Darrell located the window, she proceeded to drawing small rocks at the window. After throwing five rocks, and not getting spotted by Steve's mother, someone opened the window and out popped Steve's head. Darrell saw that he had a frustrated look and was about to shout to whomever was throwing rocks at his window. But once he saw Darrell grinning up at him, Steve smirk and retreated back to his room.
Darrell knew that he was going to meet her through the back door, making it a lot easier for him to be unseen by his mother. As Darrell reached the back door, out came Steve and Darren.
"What are you doing here?" Steve began to asked, "And where did you get that cape?" He added, going a bit pale to the face.
Darrell remembered what happened last night, and of course Steve clearly recognized the cape. With a silent gulp, Darrell smiled her two buddies. "I just wanted to drop by and say hello! Also; I was accepted into the Cirque!" She said happily.
"Really?! That's great news!" Darren said joyfully. "I bet your performance will be totally awesome and scary!"
"Nah." Darrell said as she shook her head, causing the top part of the cape to fall off her head. "They made me a worker. told me that I need to work on my skills so that I may join the freaks on the stage."
Darren's face dropped. "What!? They're making you a laborer? That's crazy!" Darren was about to let out a long rant, until Darrell spoke up.
"It's quite alright. Besides, I have years of experience with manual labor." Darrell said, reminding them how her life was at the orphanage. Darrell's attentioned move to Steve, who was remained silent throughout the time. "Yo? You okay?" Darrell began to asked, pretending to not know the conversation that Steve and had last night after the show. "You look really pale. Did you two didn't get enough sleep? I shouldn't had woken you guys up." She said a bit concern. It's no lie that the show started really late at night and went on for an hour or so. The two are nothing but boys and need their rest. So waking them up so early did worried Darrell. She was used staying up late and going to sleep late for all of the cleaning she did at the orphanage. Not to mention the ghosts waking her up or keeping her awake through the night.
Steve was quiet but quickly smiled at Darrell. "Yeah. We did slept late. But it's alright. The show was great and we couldn't stop talking about it!" He answered her, even though Darrell knew that it was a lie. Ever since Steve noticed the cape, Darrell knew that his mind was wondering on what said about his blood. Darrell did not wish to believe what the vampire said, but she knows best not to bring it up.
"I'm glad! It was awesome!" Darrell said happily. "Anyways, I should be heading back."
"Can we see the freaks?" Darren said excitedly.
Darrell shook her head. "Sorry Darren, but I can't. They're sleeping right now and I don't think they'll like 'children' sneaking in." Darrell scold him for even thinking such a thing.
Darren pouted. "We're not children..."
Again, Darrell shook her head. She then smiled back at them. "The show will most likely be leaving tonight, since last night was the show. Which mean this is an official goodbye."
The three of them came together and hugged one another. It felt weird. These two are her best friends in the whole world. They were the first to accepted her for who she was. And last night startled her; Steve conversation with , Gremlin Darren and the fact that it knew everything that was going to happen. It scared her. What would have happened if Darren saw Steve with the vampire and hearing that his best friend was born killer? Imagining all the things that her two best friends might have gone through made her teary face.
"Aw man! Don't cry! Then you'll start to make me cry!" Darren said as he pulled away, rubbing his eyes, making sure that no tears were shown.
Darrell pulled away and used the cape to wipe away her tears. "Sorry...sorry." She said with a sniff. "I better get going. And you two should get some more rest!" She added as she began to walk away. But taking two steps, Darrell turned around and pointed her finger at them. "You guys better look out for each other!" She began to say, startling them.
Darrell had a feeling, that if these two don't stick together in a good, friendship way, things may turn for the worse.
Steve smirked and placed his hands on his hips. "Look at Darrell. Trying to be the mature one." He said in a teasing voice.
"I mean it! Support each other through thick and thin! Don't get into trouble; like becoming a criminal or doing drugs!" Darrell continued, and the seriousness in her electric blue eyes told the two boys to listen and remain quiet. "Because I don't want to come back and find one of you in jail. Enjoy your childhood. And keep playing soccer! I want to see you guys on television when the World Cup happens! Reach for a brighter future!" She said before turning around and running off.
Steve and Darren watched Darrell run off and disappear in the next street. "What do you think that's suppose to mean?" Darren asked Steve.
"She just want what's best for us." Steve answered. "We have a better chance to live our lives healthy and beneficial. And we shouldn't take that for granted."
Darren looked at Steve before looking down the road that Darrell took. Darren smiled and lightly elbowed his friend's side. "Let's get some eat! Then we can play soccer!"
Darrell easily got back to the Cirque and saw that no one was awake or walking about outside. She quietly returned back to the cellar room where all the freaks are sleeping. She saw that everyone was still asleep. Well, she couldn't blame them since they've performed late last night and were tired out. Darrell was careful not to wake the performers, especially the Wolfman. Even though he was locked up in his cage and snoring loudly, the man-beast still frighten her.
Deciding that it was best to stay away from it as possible, Darrell returned back to where 's coffin was at. Who would have thought that vampire sleeping in coffin myth was true? Darrell then began to wonder on how the stories of vampires in movies, comic books, and novels may be true or false. Was everything about vampires fales? Or are they true? Darrell will have to ask about that. Right now, she thought it would be best to get some extra time of sleep.
Darrell didn't know how long she slept, but she suddenly felt a firm hand on her shoulder and someone lightly shaking. She slowly opened her eyelids and looked up to see whoever was making her up. Her vision was unfocused for a couple of seconds, but everything began to clear up and saw that it was that was waking her up. "Time for work, young one."
With a heavy sigh, Darrell removed the cape off of her and picked up 's hat. She placed the hat and cape on the small table where a small box was one. A white cloth covered the box but Darrell didn't dare to lift the cape. Darrell looked around the cellar room and noticed that all, except the Wolfman who was howling and banging at his cage and , were gone.
"They're upstairs having breakfast." said as if he read Darrell's mind. "You should go up and join them."
A bit shaky leg, Darrell nod her head and walked up the stairs. Even though she was now part of the Cirque, Darrell was still very nervous. Would the freaks like her? Will they cast her aside? Treat her poorly? Questions ran through her mind as she stepped outside the back of the theatre and saw some of the freaks sitting in a circle. She noticed the Snake Boy, Hans Hands, Truska, and the two females that assisted and the Wolfman. Darrell also noticed that they were all eating sausages and eggs.
As she approached the group, they all began to noticed her.
"And who's this, ?" Han Hands asked after swallowing a mouthful of food.
Darrell tensed up when she felt 's giant hands on her shoulders. She realized that followed her out of the cellar room. She thought that he left after speaking with her. Also, she didn't hear any of his footsteps! "My friends, we have a new addition to the Cirque." announced with his loud voice. Even though he was speaking normally, it came out very loud. "This is Darrell Spectre. The Ghost Whisperer." answered the question that was probably on everyone's mind. Darrell raised an eyebrow when she heard her nickname. That's kind of catchy. But why is he giving me a stage name so soon?
"She is not a performer just yet. But she will be helping around the camp." continued. His black eyes landed on the Snake Boy. "Evra, you do not mind showing Darrell around and having her help you with your chores?"
The Snake Boy known as Evra smiled. "Sure! No problem!"
then patted Darrell on the shoulder. "Stick with Evra and help him out with his duties." When Darrell turned around to say something to , he was long gone.
"Well Darrell," Hans began to say, causing Darrell to look back at the group. "welcome to the family!" He said with a grin, causing everyone around them and her to greet her, as if they all knew one another for such a long time. This caused Darrell to smiled, her insides feeling warm and fuzzy.
Welcome to the family. It is something that Darrell wished to hear and experience for so long. And now, she has a family and a place to call her home.
Once they made room for her to sit down, Darrell placed herself next to one of the female helpers and Evra. "So you're my new partner, huh." Evra said with a smile. "It's pretty cool to see someone else who's almost or is my age."
"Too right." Darrell said in agreement.
Then, Truska walked up to Darrell, holding another plate of eggs and sausages to her. Truska spoke to Darrell, but she had no idea what she was saying. The sound that came out of her mouth sounded like a seal. Darrell slightly frown and spoke, "I'm sorry. I don't understand."
"She asking if you're hungry and that you like sausage with eggs." Evra told Darrell.
Darrell was surprised to see that Evra knew what the Bread Lady said. She then smiled at Truska and gently took the plate. "I love sausage and eggs. Thank you!"
Truska smiled warmly at Darrell before going back to her own meal. Darrell then looked at Evra. "How did you know what she said?"
"I'm still learning, but I can translate most of what she says." Evra said with a proud smile.
Darrell simply laughed lightly before taking a bite out of the eggs. It was so good! Back at the orphanage, Darrell rarely got breakfast at that place, and she would mostly cook for the younger ones.
"So Darrell, how did find ya?" Hans asked, since he finished his breakfast.
"When I heard about the Cirque, I just had to join! So I ran away from the orphanage and sneak my way into the theatre." Darrell began to explain, even though she hasn't fully chewed her food that was in her mouth. After chewing and swallowing, she continued. "I watched the show, and it was incredible! And right after the show, I was caught by one of the performers and brought to ."
"So I take it you speak to ghosts, hence your stage name." One of the helpers said.
"Not only speak to ghosts, but I can touch them as well. Just like any living person." Darrell added as she noticed a old lady ghost gliding through the camp, ignoring everyone and going through solid objects. "They can talk to me and I can talk back. Not all ghosts are nice. Some are mean and rude, while there are others that are just plain evil." She said, shivering as she remembered her first encountered with a Black Shadow Ghost.
It was a dare that she had to go into the haunted bathroom, that always remained lock. The story goes that, a little girl was murdered in the bathroom, for she was bullied by a lot of people. No one knows who murdered her, but days later, another girl was found dead in the same bathroom stall that the other girl was killed in. When Darrell entered the bathroom, the dare became a prank and she was locked in. Darrell met the second girl that was killed, for she was crying in the stall that she was killed in. When Darrell approached the girl, she yelled out in fright but not at Darrell. Darrell turned around and came face to face with the Black Shadow Ghost.
Darrell instantly felt weak and sick as the Black Shadow Ghost game closer to her. It was angry at Darrell, for the ghost wanted to attack and torment the girl ghost. But Darrell protected the girl ghost until the Black Shadow Ghost left.
"Even though I've been talking to ghosts all my life, I still need to develop my talent." Darrell continued. "I know I can do more."
"Ah don't sweat it!" Evra piped up, patting Darrell on the back in a friendly way. "You'll master you ghost skills in no time!"
The rest of the group agreed, causing Darrell to lighten up. The time for the gang to know Darrell had to wait, for they have to pack everything up and hit the road. They weren't in no hurry, but just wanted to prepare everything so that everything wouldn't be in a rush. Just like instructed to do, Darrell followed Evra's lead and help him out. The first thing they did was clean up his snakes.
Darrell thought that he only had one snake, the one what he performed with. But upon entering one of the traveling vans, Darrell saw that there was a bunch of snakes of different kinds. Darrell didn't know much of snakes, except that there are two kinds; poisonous and constrictors. Most of the snakes were small, but the ones that were medium sizes, Darrell knew that she had to be extra careful with. She didn't want to die on the first day of the job.
Lucky enough for her, none of the snakes were poisonous. Darrell helped clean out their cages, clean up the blood splats and crap. The two of them cleaned the snakes individually and Evra fed them after the cages were cleaned out. After attending to the small snakes, the two hopped out of the back of the van and went to clean up the large anaconda.
"Now don't freak out on me." Evra told Darrell, seeing that she was slightly shaking when they reached the cellar. "I'll clean to upper body and you'll work on the lower body." He instructed her.
Still shaking, Darrell nod her head and the two began to work on the giant snake. Darrell found out that the lower part of the body is the weaker part of the snake. Plus, if she worked near the head, the snake might attack her since it doesn't know who she is. After working on the giant snake, the two went back up. Darrell noticed some of the tents were being brought down and packed away.
Darrell looked up to the sky and saw that sun was nearing it sunset stage. So it was 4 o' clock.
"Come on, Darrell! We still got work to do!" Evra called out, causing Darrell to look away from the sky and follow the Snake Boy deeper into the camp.
After an hour or so of working, Darrell and Evra were now eating dinner. Darrell helped Truska cook, even though Truska told her that she was fine on her own, not wanting the child to work even more. Evra had translate what Truska said, of course. The two youngster began to chit chat, getting to know one another even more.
"So the orphanage was run by a bad woman." Evra summed it up. "And you had two friends who liked spiders and scary stuff."
"Basically." Darrell said before taking a ship of her water.
"How did you end up at the orphanage?" Evra asked as he took a bite of his spaghetti and meatballs.
"When I was really young, my parents were murdered." Darrell said as she stared down at her dinner. She was so young, that she couldn't remember what happened that night or day. Mostly night, since did say that the vampaneze, another race of vampires, had killed her parents and rescued her from them. But still, Darrell didn't know what happened though. "And since I don't have any living relatives, I was moved into an orphanage. I don't really remember my parents either. The only way I knew them were through family photos." She finished saying before eating her spaghetti.
Evra was quiet as Darrell continued to eat. He knew that most people in the Cirque were teased because of their appearances and/or talent. But Darrell looked like a normal person and yet, she went through so much. Evra believed that she might had time to have some make her feel better, even though she told him that she had two best friends. "I've never seen my real parents." Evra spoke up, catching Darrell's attention. "They've must of sold me away because the next thing I knew, I was in a circus. A really mean and wicked one. I was locked up in a glass case, and people were paid to laugh at me."
Darrell stopped and listened to what Evra was saying.
"But then, came and saved me. And when I brought to the Cirque, I knew that everything was going to be alright." He said with a smiled before glancing at Darrell. "You see. Everyone here has their own story. We are all a family. So if you are ever feeling down, you can talk to me or anyone of us." Evra said with a smile.
Darrell was a bit surprised but nonetheless, she returned his smile and the two began to eat away their spaghetti.
As the night grew darker, emerged from his coffin and saw that his cape was folded neatly and his hat on top. He also noticed that his cape and hat was dirty, but he wasn't upset because he expected that his clothing would get filthy. checked on Madam Octa and saw that she was hide awake. He remind himself to feed her before they leave. He put on his cape but left his hat, and made his way upstairs. Once he was outside, was surprised to see Darrell hard at work.
What also surprised him was that Darrell quickly adapted to the life at the Cirque. He then noticed that Evra was helping out Darrell. Or was it the other way around? must had appointed Darrell under Evra's watch until awaken.
saw that the place was almost emptied out, except for simple cooking utensils. Probably for him to cook something up. As Darrell load up the trucks, she heard someone approaching her and Evra. When the two youngsters turned around, they were greeted by the vampire. "Good evening, Darrell and Evra."
"Hi !" Evra greeted the mid-age vampire. "Darrell, this is Larten . Preferably ." Evra introduced Darrell to the vampire.
arched an eyebrow at Darrell. "I see that you did not tell him the whole truth."
Darrell smiled sheepishly. Evra, with a confused look on his face, glanced back at Darrell then to , then back at Darrell. "Wait. You two already know one another?"
"That is a story for another time. But I do thank you for watching over Darrell throughout the day." said, nodding at Evra.
"No problem." Evra answered back, still slightly confused with the connection that Darrell has with .
turned away from them, but before he could walk, he looked back at Darrell and tilted his head. Darrell understood what the vampire was trying to tell her and followed . "I'll see you later Evra!" She called back as she caught up with the vampire. Darrell followed as they reach what was left of needing to be packed up and put away.
"I see that you are slowly learning the daily routine of being a member of the Cirque." said after they stopped walking. Darrell slightly looked around the area that they were in. She noticed some small pots and pans, plates and spoons.
"Yeah. woke me up and said that I should help out, now that I am part of the Cirque." Darrell said as she put her hands in her pockets. She then looked back at , dead in the eye. "There's something you want to tell me, right?"
simply smirk down at her. "You catch on quickly. Yes, there are things that I wish to explain to you."
Darrell had a feeling something like this would happen, ever since she joined the Cirque. There is always a catch on everything. Darrell pulled her hands out of her pocket and crossed her arms in front of her chest. She patiently waited for to continue.
"Even though you are not a vampire, you are still my assistant and under my guardianship." continue to say. "Throughout the day, you will work and help Evra, and do whatever tells you to do. And at night, I will be teaching you the vampire ways. You will be trained physically and mentally." He stated.
"What do you mean by 'physically and mentally'?" Darrell asked.
"You will train your body to become stronger and healthier." answered. "I can tell that the caretaker at the orphanage did not supply you with enough food. You are slightly malnourished."
Darrell nod her head, now understanding. "So, I'll gain more body weight and start exercising. And the mentally part?"
"It will be your job to remember everything I teach you about the life of being a vampire." answered. "A vampire who does not learn, does not last for long."
"Got it. Smart vampires last longer than dumb ones." Darrell said without hesitation. Although, she did noticed one of 's eyes twitching, and his frown grew deeper. Did I hit a nerve?
sighed through his nostrils before continuing. "But that's not all. You are also in charge of cooking me breakfast and cleaning up my cape. And you must focus on developing your spiritual talents."
Now it was Darrell's turn to frown. Great, I'm still a chore person for an adult. Whatever, at least isn't giving me any life threats. "Alright. When do we start?"
"The night is young. You will start with cooking me some food. While you are at that, I will clean off my cape and hat." said before going off to clean off his circus costume.
Darrell sighed and looked at the pots and food. What the heck am I going to cook? What does he like? Well, he did say breakfast. So, eggs with ham and a two slices of bread?
With that in mind, Darrell ran off to grab the food and quickly prepare it. As she went running to find the food, she saw a blue robe laying on the ground nearby. Darrell tilted her head before making her way towards it. Darrell kneel down and placed her hand on the robe. She felt a tingling sensation run up her arm and an image of Gremlin Darren came to her mind. Darrell gasped and picked up the robe. This is the blue robe that he was wearing. So, that must mean...that he...
Darrell blinked back tears as she hugged the robe. It felt strange, knowing that your future friend met you and help you out, then suddenly disappearing and dying. It was strange and confusing, but it still hurt nonetheless.
Quickly returning to the cellar room, Darrell tucked the blue robe into her backpack, before returning back upstairs to fix up 's breakfast.
Darrell placed the over-easy eggs onto the plate, which already had the hams and bread. Once she finished serving, returned right on time. "I didn't know what you wanted, so I just made a typical breakfast dish." She told him before handing him the plate, along with a fork.
simply smiled at the youngster and gladly took the plate. "It is quite alright." He said as he sat down on a stone. Darrell felt a bit hungry, but she pushed the hunger feeling as she douse the fire and clean up the stuff she used. "And judging the way you cooked this, the caretaker had you working in the kitchen at the orphanage." announced after he swallowed a mouthful of his meal.
Darrell piled the items on top of one another before replying to . "Yeah. Since I was one of the older kids, I was in charge of feeding the younger ones. We all woke up much earlier so that we could all eat and get straight to work on cleaning the place, while she did nothing and sat back, and watch us on all fours, working like animals! And..." Darrell began to rant, but held her tongue and remained silent. Darrell fought back the tears as her hands cling tightly onto her pants. So many years, she has been strong. Or, acted strong in front of others. Not wanting them to see how weak and fragile she is. So many years she has maintain it, and yet Darrell was about to break in a presence of a person.
watched as Darrell struggled to control her emotions. It sadden him to see someone so young and has suffer so much. And he knew, that she will continue to suffer under his guardianship. But he knew that he cannot do such a thing to her. So, kept in mind to go easy on Darrell, just a little bit. He didn't want to Darrell to think of him as a pushover. "I am sorry that you had to suffer under her care." began to say.
"You don't have to apologize. You did what you thought was right." Darrell spoke up, not wanting to her him apologizing to him, for she knew that she wouldn't hold back the tears. "Besides, Evra told me that we are all a family and that everything is going to be alright. That things will turn for the better." She continued but with a smile. "And I'm going to take his word. But if things go sour, I'm going to give him a wedgie that he will never forget!" Darrell finished saying with a devilish grin.
Even though smiled, he shook his head before finishing his breakfast. finished eating his food and as he handed the plate to Darrell, he spoke again. "I know that you are child with a good heart. But I will have to test your blood to see if it's not tainted with evil."
Darrell tensed up when she heard those words. The scene of Steve and replayed in her mind, and she began to wonder; what will my blood contain?
With a sigh, Darrell nod her head. "Alright. So, where will you..."
"Give me your arm." said with his arm outstretched. Darrell hesitated a bit but slowly reached out her arm and placed it in his large, cold hand.
"This will hurt only a little." He warned her before quickly slicing a small cut on her arm. Darrell winced and watched the vampire lick her blood. His tongue felt rough and hard, like when a cat licks your hand or face. After a few licks and sucks, pulled his lips away from her wound and began to swirl the blood in his mouth, tasting it.
Darrell watched and waited, knots forming in her stomach. Finally, the vampire swallowed. "You're blood is good." He finally said. "It is quite frizzy, like apple cider. I believe that you are an upgoing person, active and curious. But there is a bittersweet taste." He said with a serious tone that made Darrell's skin crawl. "Which I already know. It is bitter because you wished you could have lash out with your rage at whomever made your life miserable. But it is not who you are. Sweet; for you had made fond memories and great friends."
Darrell felt a bit awkward about the bittersweet part. She did wish to attack the caretaker; for she thought so many ways to torture her. But Darrell knew that she didn't had the strength to do such a thing. "So...I don't have evil blood?"
"No. You do not." said as put some spit on his index and middle finger. Darrell didn't know if she should sigh in relief or remain silent. Suddenly, she felt a cold and slimy feeling on her arm and saw that covered her wound with his spit.
"Eww! What are you doing?!" She yelped in disgust as she yanked her hand away.
"Vampire spit can heal up wounds and cuts." explained, ignoring her disgust face.
"Oh..." Darrell said as she stared at her cut, and saw that it was slowly healing. "Cool."
After finishing up, Darrell cleaned his dish and put away the rest of the stuff. Darrell quickly ran back to the cellar room and grabbed her backpack. She then returned back upstairs. Seeing that everyone packed up all the stuff and were readying themselves to leave, received help from Hans to carry up his coffin and loaded it into a van. Darrell saw everyone getting into their vans and she looked around, wondering which van she should hop into.
"Darrell, come." She heard say as he hopped into the back of a van. Darrell smiled and quickly hopped in. The truck of the van had hooks on each side and corner, allowing them to used the giant cloth to cover it up and being engulf into darkness. Darrell knew that it was for . If not, the sun would burn him alive and she would no longer have a guardian. But since the moon was out, there was no need to cover up.
Soon enough, of all the cars' engines came to life and they began to drive. Darrell stare out as she saw that they were taking the south side to exit the town. Which meant they were driving away from Darren and Steve. Away from the orphanage and Sofie. Darrell continue to watch as the cars drove up a hill, next to the town graveyard. Once on top of the graveyard, Darrell got a clear view of her town.
Many lights were still flickering on and she could see cars driving around the many streets. Even though she may not have many fond memories of this place, but Darrell will sure miss her dear friends. Darrell was able to figure out what place would be where. She believed that the park was in this certain area, along with the school. Then she focused on where Steve's and Darren's house would be at.
"Are you alright?" asked, causing Darrell to turn away from her home town.
Darrell looked back at the vampire, a sad look on her face. She then look back at city, which was fading away in the distance and darkness. "Yeah. Just give me a minute." Darrell answered back before going silent. remained silent, for he knew what Darrell was feeling. They were quiet, the sound of tires grinding against the dirt road and the rearing of the engines filled their ears. The feel of the wind caused the tree leaves and bushes to rustled in the night. Finally, the city was nowhere in sight, and Darrell pushed herself away from the edge of the truck and into the darkness with . "I may not have a lot of nice memories of that place, but it was still somewhat my home." Darrell said, as she hugged her legs and bringing her knees to her chest. "It's hard, and yet so easy. Hard to give up my friendship, but easy to grab an opportunity that I've been waiting for so long."
"It is a sad fate that we must all face." said. "Perhaps, if the Vampire Gods are kind to you, then you might come back and see your old friends once more." He said, trying to comfort her. The two fell into silence once more, but the silence did not last for Darrell clapped her hands together and let out a sigh.
"Shall we start with Vampire Lessons?" She asked with a smile.
returned the smile and nod his head. "Very well. Let us begin."
