Bruises 8
"Did you do it?" Hanji asked, totally interrupting Levi's privacy.
"Hanji" Levi narrowed his eyes "It's not even dawn and you're already bugging me" He took a sip of tea.
"Your answer wasn't clear enough" Hanji got even closer to him.
"Don't you take as sign that a man wants to be alone when you see him enjoying a cup of tea? Early in the morning? Before everyone else is up? All by himself in the dinning room?" He poked her forehead.
"Oi!" She rubbed her forehead "I take it as a sign of a man who is love sick" She winked at him, him, on the other hand, just rolled his eyes.
"I don't what you're talking about"
"Yes you do"
"Not entirely"
"So, you do admit you're in love"
"What?" Levi scoffed "Just go away"
"Just tell me"
"No" He said with determination.
"Is that a no I will not tell you? Or a no, I'm not in love?"
"Just" His hand clenched to the cup "Stop"
"Why?"
"Because I want to enjoy my cup of tea all by myself"
"It's not that"
"It is. This tea is exceptionally good"
"C'mon, talk about" Hanji noticed how, little by little, Levi was getting annoying. Nevertheless, she wouldn't stop asking him.
"Not now"
"Why?"
"I've told you, this tea is exceptionally good"
"Why won't you talk about it?"
"Because I don't know" Levi shouted "I can't say I'm in love"
Hanji gasped. She wasn't expecting this kind of answer. What she was expecting was a clear and firm answer from him. It was odd-and it was the first time- that Levi looked somehow troubled by his relationship with someone. His jaw a bit tensed, and his eyes with a rare glow, something Hanji had never seen before.
"You really get into my nerves sometimes, four-eyes" He poked her forehead again.
"You just can't decide your feelings for her?" She smiled at him and returned the poke.
He didn't do anything.
"Why are in such a hurry to know this"? He took another sip of tea.
"Well" Hanji scratched her head "With all this female titan capture plan, it's good to talk about other stuff. Plus, I have to say, you've been spending quite some time with her these past weeks"
It was true. Since the night Sasha had seen him half drunk they had talked everyday. They had searched for each other everyday. That meant two full weeks of undefined feelings to develop inside them.
At least for him where undefined. Sasha already knew exactly her feelings for him. She was in love. It had been a short period, but it was enough time to make her fall for the corporal. It was hard not to. It was hard when she was getting to know the real him.
"It's harder than I thought" Levi admitted.
"Is it?" Hanji cracked a smile "It's hard to know how you feel about the girl who completes you"
"I don't want to lose her"
The conversation was getting deeper that what Levi had thought. He wasn't the kind of man who would speak about his feelings with anyone. Hanji was one of the few exceptions, plus, he needed to get it out.
"So you'd rather ignore your feelings" She rolled her eyes.
"No" He looked at directly at her eyes, a rough look "It's not that. I just think that it's better for us to just be...friends" He said, hesitating.
"Don't be selfish"
"I'm not selfish" His eyes were bulging slightly
"I know" She said calmly "Though, you're being a little. Not wanting to suffer in case something happens.
"And that's also another thing that makes it harder" One of his hands traveled to one of his temples and he closed his eyes.
"Levi" Hanji said with a soft voice "You know it, you know that there's no time to waste"
He sighed.
"Isn't that pathetic? Our future depends on the titans" He slammed the table.
"We can change that" Hanji winked at him.
"Hanji" He poked her for a third time "If you do that again, I'm just going to punch you"
"Fine, fine" She laughed "Well, I'll leave you alone now" She stood up and before she left the room she spoke again.
"Looks that you have to think about something. Just remember, don't toy with her" She walked away.
Levi never thought he would find himself in a situation like this. He considered himself as a straight forward man, occasionally having second thoughts. When it came to his love life, he had always knew what he wanted, though he'd had very few serious relationships. With Hanji's talking he realized he had to do something about it. It was either letting Sasha go, or stay true to their feelings. He was tired of losing the people he cared about, and just thinking of something happening to Sasha, made his stomach ache.
Levi was inside the castle. A meeting had just ended and it was training time. Everyone was outside doing whatever Hanji told them to. Except him, his leg still didn't allow him to do much. From the window he was watching them, he could see everything and everyone. Of course, his eyes were constantly focused on one single person; Sasha. There was something about her that had captured him.
Sasha was paired with Connie, doing some fighting practices. Although they knew things here were for more serious than in their training years, they couldn't avoid fooling around. Seeing Sasha genuinely happy and laughing, made him smirk a little. When Connie and Sasha touched, Levi had a funny feeling, he wasn't jealous. Not at all. It was something else. Watching her just being herself was, he thought, one of the best small pleasures of life.
He went out to watch them and pit them some rougher exercises. When Sasha saw him, her face lit up and smiled at him.
He had made up his mind.
"Hanji, get your hands off the tea" Levi yelled "You'll ruin it"
"I won't" She took out a small jar of honey.
"Do whatever you want on your cup, but leave mine alone" He stood up to take the honey away from her hands.
It was early at night, but everyone was already sleeping. It had been a tiring day. Just two people remained awake, they were in the kitchen enjoying a cup of tea. Hanji always seemed to be filled up with energy, Levi hadn't done much, therefore wasn't tired
He poured some tea on his cup and went back to his chair. Hanji did the same.
"I thought about it"
"Levi, seriously. You have to stop talking about it. Don't you think it's annoying to hear you babbling about her all day long?" Hanji giggled at her own sarcastic comment. She was the only one that did.
"Well" He stood up"If you don't care, I shall leave."
"I was joking" She rolled her eyes.
He sat back down.
"So, did you make up your mind?"
"Yes"
"Should I be excited?"
"If you want to"
"What's that supposed to mean" Hanji leaned closer to him.
"Today I saw her with that short boy" He gave it a thought "Connie?"
"Go on" She said nodding.
"I think that by now you also know how those two are, can't help to fool around. As I was saying, I was watching her. And I saw just how radiant her smile could get by the simplest things."
"Your conclusion is, you're gonna stalk her for the rest of your days"
"Shut up"
Hanji raised her eyebrows, indicating him to go on.
"You're right. There's no time to waste"
"Well" She made a smug face.
"Now I really now it. I don't want to lose her, I want her to be a part of my life. I want her to be mine"
At the end of these words a gasp was heard, both of them got surprised. The gasp hadn't come from their mouths. It was followed by some giggles, then footsteps. Levi stood up and opened the door.
Christa was some steps away from the door already, but Sasha was still standing there, motionless, Levi was too. If there was something he didn't want to, it was her finding out this way. He wanted to tell her in person.
He cleared his troat.
"Le- corporal" Sasha's cheeks were bright red, not even a tomato could get that red.
"You can call him Levi in front of me" Hanji was the only one that could say a full sentence.
"Sasha" He finally spoke.
"Was that true" She asked, bitting her bottom lip, looking at the floor.
"Yes" He said, lifting her chin, so they see at each other's eyes "It´s nothing but the truth"
