Chapter 9
Levi looked at the castle's main door and sighed. It was a rather cold morning and she had already taken enough time, more than necessary, he thought. He turned his back at the door and watched the trees around. Only a few birds were chirping around, he breathed out on his hands and rubbed them. His body jerked at the sounds of leaves cracking.
"What's taking you so long?" He muttered when he saw it was just a deer.
He went back to watching his surroundings. He walked over a tree and picked up an apple that had fallen from it.
They had agreed to meet before the sunrise. There were only some minutes left and Sasha hadn't arrived. This would be the last chance they would get to spend alone in the next week. Levi would be so busy planning the female titan capture, that it'd be impossible to talk to her about what had happened last night. Only a week was left until they'd put the plan on action, and-as much as he despised to think this- he wasn't sure how it'd end up.
"I'm sorry, I found it hard to wake up" His body jerked again, this time he hadn't heard anything, and there she was, standing in front of him, smiling.
"It's fine" He bit the apple "let's get going" He started to walk into the forest.
"Where are we going?" Sasha asked as she followed him.
"Somewhere I think you'll like" He stopped walking so she could catch up with him. They started to walk side by side.
They didn't talk while they walked, they'd just look at each and then watched to the path ahead of them again. Their shoulders occasionally brushed. Besides that, nothing else happened. Both of them were at ease, it was still dark, and the only sound that could be heard was the one of their boots crushing the leaves.
Sasha wondered where they were going, she wouldn't mind as long as she spent time with him.
They hadn't really talked since last night, if that actually was talking. In reality they just stared at each other. And Levi had said that he was in love with her.
"We're almost there" Levi broke the silence.
They kept walking for anther few minutes.
"It's here" He grabbed Sasha's hand and walked her somewhere.
"Levi" Sasha stared at the lake in front of her " This place is beautiful.
The lake itself wasn't the thing that made it beautiful, if it weren't because of its surroundings, it'd just be an ordinary, small lake. But the dim, tawny light that reflected on it, combined with the tall greenish trees, made it all a sigh that none of them had never seen before. The quiet rumble of the water and the chirping of the birds, made them believe that they were living in a surreal kind of world.
The sun was slowly rising. Levi sat on the the grass and looked up at Sasha.
"Sit down" He whispered, pulling her down by her hand.
They sat side by side, their bodies barely touching. Their mouths remained closed until the sun had fully raised. Either because they were too delighted by the view, or because they were so close to the other.
"There's something I'd like to talk about" He turned his eyes to Sasha.
Her face was slightly red, she slowly turned her head to him and smiled.
"I wonder why" She chuckled and tugged a strand of hair behind her ear.
"It wasn't exactly the way I wanted you to find out" He started "You know, I wanted to tell in a moment like this, with no one else around"
"I don't Crista will go around telling people" She interrupted him.
"It's not that. I don't care if they know or not. I just wanted to be alone" He stared at her.
The woman next to him. He wanted to memorize every detail about her, the way she smiled, when her brown eyes sparkled whenever she was excited. Her never-failing ponytail, that gave her a fresh look.
"We're alone now" She grabbed his hand "I also want to tell you something"
Although they were alone, with no noise, she leaned closer to his ear.
"I'm in love with you too"
She leaned back. She was smiling widely, on his lips there was a hint of a smile.
"There's a reason of why I was late" She took a small bag out of her jacket. The bag was full of nuts.
"I thought we'd get hungry at some point"
"Well" He gave the apple to Sasha "All I have is a bitten apple, if you don't mind"
"Not at all" She bit the apple.
They started to eat in silence. Sasha didn't really know what to say, and Levi was just enjoying the moment. They couldn't ask for anything else, the morning was enjoyable.
"Do you want to go back?" He asked her as he stood up.
"No" She smiled "Come" he reached out her hand to her.
She stood up and brushed the grass off his uniform. They got near the lake, and watched it.
"Sasha" He took something out of his jacket "Although I hate to think like this, it's the truth"
"What are you talking about?" She asked calmly.
He opened his hand, revealing a necklace. It was handmade. It was a thin piece of fabric, with a dried flower as a pendant.
"I want you to have it" He said "You know, in case something happens, you'll always have this"
"Levi" She muttered, while she leaned down so he could put her the necklace on.
They stared at each other's eyes. Hers had a certain glow, and although he had his usual emotionless face, his eyes also had a sort of glow.
The closeness of their faces made Sasha blush, and she was sure that her heart was skipping a beat.
The closeness of their faces made Sasha blush, and she was sure that her heart was skipping a beat.
He cupped her cheek with one hand, placing the other on her neck. He pulled her down to noses brushed. She knew it was going to happen, and she couldn't be any happier that it would happen right then and there. He brought her a little closer kissing her cheek. Then he started to give her little pecks on the corner of her lips, making her shiver. After some teasing, their lips finally met. At first Sasha didn't move, she was completely frozen with shock and happiness. However, she returned the kiss shortly after. Her hands went to his neck, desperate to pull him impossibly closer. They kissed softly and tenderly. It was the vulnerable, soft side of Levi. Only Sasha would get to meet that part of him. He was a very caring person, but never showed it to anyone else but Sasha.
They broke apart, their foreheads resting on the other's. He started to run her cheek with his thumb.
"Nothing will happen to us" She whispered "I want to be naïve enough to believe it"
"I think we have our chances"
"I guess so" She smiled shyly.
"Hey" He raised his head, making her do the same "We have each other now"
Sasha found it rather odd for him to say that, at least this soon.
"Will that be enough?"
"For now, it will be" He hugged her.
He remember the time they met. If he hadn't save her, he wouldn't be here, he'd be inside his room, working out. He remembered the time he shared his breath with her, how he held her, how she had cried.
She broke apart from the hug and smiled at him, the smile that always warmed his insides. Placing her hands on her shoulders she giggled.
Maybe it was because if the continued the conversation, she would cry, or because the impulsive side of her had told her to; she pushed Levi into the river.
"Braus" He shouted in disbelief as his head came out of the water.
"Braus?!" She laughed "Hang in there"
She took her boots off, then her jacket.
"I'm telling, the water is freezing"
He got splashed when she dipped in.
"What was all that about?" He asked as she got near him.
"I don't now, the talking was getting a little gloomy"
"I guess you're right" She chuckled.
He pulled her closer to him, they kissed again. This time their noses didn't brush, neither he teased her. All the new emotions made Sasha's stomach jolt. It was something she had never experienced before.
"As much as I enjoy being like this" He broke apart form the kiss "The water is too cold"
"Yeah" She nodded.
They went out of the river and sat in front of it.
"Are we going to wait until our clothes dry?" She asked.
"If you want to" He laid in the grass "We don't have all day, though"
"Just a little longer" She laid next to him.
Some minutes passed and she snuggled next to him, they were quiet. As if they already knew everything that needed to be known.
Sasha was about to fall asleep when her stomach growled.
"I'm hungry" She said.
"Lets go back. You still have to train"
"Then I might as well stay hungry all day"
They walked back holding hands-something that Sasha had started- and talking about what they would eat when they got back.
It was a very different day. For both of them.
When they got back, Hanji was waiting for Levi. Right when they saw her, Sasha released her hand from Levi's.
"Erwin want to talk to you" She greeted Sasha with a smile.
"Right now?"
"I'd say yes"
Levi sighed an started to walk away. Leaving Sasha with Hanji. Sasha looked a bit disappointed, but the understood that Levi had to leave.
"I knew it would look good on you" She said with a smirk, pointing a necklace.
"Thank you, ma'm " Sasha blushed.
"I'll give you some time to eat breakfast. After that, training is waiting for you"
"Yes, ma'm"
Hanji followed Levi. Sasha walked slowly to the kitchen. She couldn't think about anything else besides the kiss, and about how she wanted to spend the rest of the day with the man she was in love with.
She snapped out of her thoughts when she bumped into something. Christa, she was smiling excitedly.
"What happened?" She asked giving Sasha a glass of milk.
"Well, you know" Sasha scratched the back of her head "We kissed" She smiled widely and turned a little pink.
"Really?!"
"Yeah" Sasha nodded enthusiastically.
"I'm so glad for you" Crista hugged her.
"I told you she'd like it" Hanji said to Levi as they walked to Erwin's office.
"Well, yeah"
"What happened?" Hanji asked, her eyes full of curiosity.
"Haven't I told you to stay out of other people's business?" He sais as he eyed her.
"I made the necklace. I deserve to know" She demanded.
"We kissed"
Something that was rare to happen on Levi happened, a wide smile appeared on his thin lips.
