Chapter 13: A blossoming romance

Flashback (the day after chapter 5)

When Ruby woke up that morning she jumped out of her bed and ran to the bathroom. She showered quickly and ran back to her room with only her underwear on, a towel on her head, a tooth brush in her mouth. She stopped in front of her open wardrobe, trying to choose an outfit. Even though they weren't going on a romantic date, Ruby like to be well-dressed and she wanted to be perfect for him. She settled on a pair of black jeans and a dark blue shirt, along with heels, boots ones. That was quite soft for her, she thought as she started to brush her dark hair in which belonged some red streaks. She liked it. Once she was ready she put on her coat and headed to the café where they planned to meet. Of course it was snowing and she arrived with her hair and clothes wet "Shouldn't have washed my hair" she thought. She spotted Jefferson at a table and joined him/

"Hey" she told him.

"Hi Ruby! How are you feeling?" he smiled brightly at her.

"I'm fine thanks, what about you?"

"Greater since you're here" Jefferson said and she blushed "I ordered two take away coffees and breakfasts, but I've been waiting for you" he told her as a waiter came with the order.

They walked to his car and ate during their way to the vehicle. She asked him about his job as he had been so mysterious about it, but he refused to answer her, telling her it was a surprise. Ruby poked his shoulder and once they reached his car and he started it, she finally dared asking him how was his daughter.

"She's fine" he told her "And really perceptive for her age. The first thing she told me when I came home was "You look happy dad!"" he laughed and she couldn't help not to chuckle with him.

"How old is she by the way?" she smiled.

"She's ten. I was nineteen when my baby princess was born" she noticed his sad tone and tried to light the mood.

"And what made you so happy yesterday?"

"Well, I met a certain black-haired girl, that must have dyed her hair last night, because I don't remember red streaks in her hair" he smiled and Ruby felt herself blush.

"Glad I could bring a little happiness in your evening" she said quietly.

The end of the road was silent. When they arrived, Jefferson asked her to close her eyes as he went out of the car and helped her get out of the car. He put a hand in front of her eyes and guided her. Once inside he told her she could look.

"Where are we?" she wondered in awe at the immensity of the building.

"In the studio where I work as a props person and costume designer"

"You're a costume designer? Whoa! That's awesome!" she grinned and he did the same. Two people came around the corner and Jefferson didn't move when the guy called his name. They were sinking in each other's eyes.

"Oi! Jeff! Are you deaf or… Oh! Well, hello miss Lucas" he smirked.

"Killian?!" Ruby said, shocked to see him here "What are you doing here?"

"Well, I should be the one asking you that, shouldn't I?" he grinned.

"Wait, you two know each other?" Jefferson asked, confused.

"Yeah, we do, because…" Ruby started but was cut off by Emma coming in sight, cursing.

"Killian Jones! Would you mind walking your big fat ass on set? What the fuck are you doing?"

"Charming Swan, charming" Killian replied sarcastically. "Plus, my ass is not fat, and I was talking to our dear Jefferson and his new girlfriend" he gestured towards their friends.

"Oh… Sorry" she apologized "Who's sh… Ruby!" she ran towards her best friend "So he's the one you've been talking to me about? That's so cool!"

"Emma…" Ruby said in a pleading voice, blushing.

They spent the day at the studio and Ruby swore it had been the best day of her life. She had spent all her time with Jefferson and learned everything she had to know about his job. Ruby didn't even notice the glances Emma shot her now and then, didn't even notice she was totally into Jefferson. She only did notice it when Emma told her she was really falling for him when they got home.

Back to present day

"She had been right" she thought lying in the couch in Jefferson's house. Her head was resting on his laps and he was gently stroking her hair.

"Are you staying tonight?" he inquired and she shot him a confused look.

"Is Grace going to be ok about it?"

"You know, I've been talking to her about you and she can't wait to meet you" Ruby smiled at that, she'd been eager to meet the girl too, but was afraid to ask. "Plus, I have a surprise for you. Both of you"

"What is it?" she asked. She was too curious for her own good, always had been.

"I'll tell you after dinner" he grinned.

"Jeff! Come on, that's not cool!"

"I really want Grace to be here"

Talking about her, she came home a few minutes later. Grace hugged her father who introduced Ruby to her and she was actually "Happy to finally meet you! Dad keeps talking about you, I feel like I already know you! You're really pretty!". Ruby thanked her and replied the exact same thing to her with a sincere smile. Grace asked her if she could help her with her homework and she couldn't find herself to refuse. While they were working, Jefferson started cooking their meal. He was an actually great cook, Ruby told him during their dinner.

"Alright girls, I have a surprise for you" he told them after the dessert "I know Grace wanted to go there, and I thought that maybe the three of us could go as you're a huge fan Ruby…" he paused for the suspense.

"Daaaaad!" Grace said in a pleading voice.

"OK, ok… I'm taking both of you to the Harry Potter Warner Bros Studio" he couldn't tell who was the most excited, his daughter or his girlfriend.

"Oh my God! Thank you dad! Thank you thank you thank you!" Grace jumped off of her chair and hugged her father tight.

"You're welcome princess, now go to sleep, we're leaving early tomorrow" he kissed her forehead and his daughter ran to her bedroom and he joined Ruby into the kitchen where she was washing the dishes. "Leave it, I'll do it tomorrow" he smiled.

"That's why you wanted me to stay tonight, didn't you?"

"Yes, do you like it?"

"I love it, thank you Jefferson" she smiled and pulled his head closer so that her lips could meet his in a soft kiss.

"And I love you" he said resting his forehead on hers.

The next day, the three of them where on the road to the Harry Potter Studio. Grace held Ruby's hand all the while and she couldn't be happier to see that Jefferson's daughter liked her. When her boyfriend went to the souvenirs boutique after telling them to stay there and after Ruby protested in vain. Grace told her something she wasn't about to forget anytime soon.

"Ruby?"

"Yes sweetheart?"

"Dad really likes you, you know and you make him really happy. I like you a lot too, because you make him smile and you're really kind to me. His previous girlfriends weren't that nice to me."

"Thank you Grace" she smiled "That is really nice. Just know that I like you very much, you're a smart girl and the pride of your father and he loves you too a lot"

"I know. You know, as I never knew my mother, you're just like one" she said.

Ruby felt the tears forming in her eyes and she took Grace in her arms. That little girl was a real pearl. Jefferson came back with bags and showed them what he got: a wand and a scarf for Grace; a necklace and a T-Shirt for Ruby.

They got home late as they stopped at a fast food for dinner and Grace was sleeping by the time they got home. Jefferson tucked her into bed and went to his room where Ruby was waiting for him.

"You ok?" he wondered.

"I'm perfect. I couldn't be more perfect actually."

"Really?" he grinned.

"Yes, I have an amazing boyfriend who does too much for me" he smiled "and he has a daughter that told me earlier that I was just like a mother to her, even though it's only been a day since I properly met her"

"I told you she would like you" Jefferson smiled again "Come on, let's go to sleep, you're exhausted and I think Emma's going to bombard you with questions tomorrow" he smirked.

"Like hell she will" Ruby said, resting her head on Jefferson's shoulder, closing her eyes, while he turned the lights off.
