Isabella Lestrange
Chp. 2
The sun was blaring when I rolled over at 8:30 the next morning. I quickly shielded my eyes as I stumbled across the room and closed the curtains. I then walked back to my suitcase and picked out my clothes for the day. My hair wasn't dirty, so I felt no need for a shower. I took it out of the braid and let it fall down to my waist in curly, lopsided waves. I giggled at myself in the mirror and went to get my wand from the nightstand. It was a secondary wand that Mum insisted I get so the Restriction of Underage Sorcery wouldn't apply in Forks. My real wand was currently in Mum's vault at Gringott's.
I walked back to the bathroom and cast a silent Hair-Restoring charm. It was about the equivalent of a muggle conditioning treatment and good 'ole natural styling. My hair immediately poofed back up into its usual wild curls. My reflection stared back at me as I put a dab of concealer and mascara on. Thanks to the Black family, I've got plenty of hair, so I don't really need mascara, but I like the normalness of it. So many things in my life are far from normal, even in the wizarding world.
My clothes were sitting on the counter. I grabbed them and pulled on the black leggings, blue long-sleeved dress and combat boots. I wanted to wear my favorite dragonhide boots, but Mum forbade me from even bringing them. As if the muggles would know. I longed to put on my traveling cloak, as the sun was quickly being covered up by dark rain clouds. I sighed, packing my traveling stuff away and stuffing it in my suitcase. I grabbed my long, grey trench coat off the hook by the door and left the room, bounding down the stairs to the lobby.
As soon as I checked out, I snagged a muffin from the snack area and headed out the door to my truck.
The engine revved as I turned the key and pulled out of the parking lot onto the long highway. It wasn't very busy at this time in the morning, but then again it probably wasn't ever busy. Long story short, the drive was very uneventful.
I passed by the Forks sign, waved my wand, and the number changed to add one more. I snickered to myself. Muggles probably wouldn't even notice. Although, Mum would scold me if she was here. I vowed to try my best not to expose myself so soon.
I pulled into the parking lot of the only realty office in town. Walking in, I noticed only one desk, but a wall of computers already set up on the housing and home improvement websites. A pudgy woman sat behind the desk. She smiled as I walked over to the small, but comfy couch and sat down.
"Hello there! I'm Mary. What do you need help with today?"
"I need a house, preferably three or four bedrooms, at least two baths, and lots of land." I stated, smiling sheepishly at the end. "Oh! I would also like quite a bit of privacy." She immediately started typing and only a few minutes later, came up with a few houses for me to choose from.
"This first one has three bedrooms, two baths. It's on a beautiful lot near town, trees around the perimeter, only five minutes from Forks High School." She said, glancing down at the screen and turning it around so I could see. I immediately shook my head no. It was a hideous yellow color. Mary sighed.
"Okay then. This one has two be-"
"No."
"Well, okay. I have one more. I just thought with you being a teenager and all, you'd want to be in civilization."
"You thought wrong."
"Okay, sweetie." I gritted my teeth. "This last one has five bedrooms, three baths, and is located on the outskirts of town, basically in the middle of the forest." She stated, glancing up at me. "There is only one other house near it, and it is about a mile away, separated by forest." I grinned.
"I'll take it."
Soon, the papers were signed, and the house paid for by Mum's muggle bank account. I hopped into my truck and drove around twenty minutes out of town, finding the driveway with little problem, and pulling up to a huge, ivory house. It had a huge front porch and a boucany to boot. I hopped out of the truck and walked up the steps, savoring the feeling of having my own place.
I unlocked the door and stepped into the spacious living room. There was a bay window, with built in bookshelves on either side. I almost drooled at the sheer number of bookshelves. I quickly enlarged my magical suitcase and unlocked the book compartment. It was filled with hundreds of books. I pointed my wand at the books.
"Unpack." They flew out of the suitcase and onto the floor. I rolled my eyes. Stupid spell.
"Shelve." I commanded. They hopped up and placed themselves on the shelves, leaving a few bottom ones for knickknacks. After that, I pulled out a few pencils that I didn't use anymore and transfigured them into living room furniture. I made a recliner and a loveseat. I also transfigured a few tissues into bean bag chairs. I set them in the corner on top of a deep black rug. A glass coffee table sat in front of the recliner and loveseat. I quickly lit the fire and set a pot of floo powder on the mantle.
I made my way through to the kitchen, transfiguring only the necessities. One bedroom was downstairs, so I converted it into a martial arts/dueling room. Three of the four bedrooms upstairs were converted into an office, a wizarding school room, and a guest room. I saved the master bedroom, my room, for last.
I stood in the doorway, taking in the room. It was large, but not as big as my room at Lestrange Manor or Grimmauld Place (When we used it, once upon a time, before Sirius got it). I got to work, painting the walls a sky blue and transfiguring a large, white iron bed with a canopy. I shoved my trunk at the end of the bed and added two nightstands on either side. I pulled out pictures of Mum and Dad, Lucius and Draco, Severus, Hermione and I, and Pansy and tacked them to the wall beside my bed. On the nightstands, I put a lamp on each, and an alarm clock on the left side. I transfigured a dresser for the other side of the room and set up my owl cage and area in another corner. I hung my map of the constellations on the wall beside my dresser. Finally, I shoved my broomstick behind the door, just in case I have to make a quick escape.
Once I finished, I shoved my toiletries under the bathroom sink and spelled my clothes to hang themselves up in the closet. I finally relaxed on my bed, and soon drifted off.
DING DONG
I sat up with a bolt. Was it a dream?
DING DONG!
Nope. I jumped out of bed and ran down the stairs, pulling my wand out of its holster as I ran. I reached the bottom and crossed the living room slowly, to catch my breath.
DING DO—
I flung the door open, wand in hand. A girl with spiky black hair stood on my doorstep. Behind her was a woman with caramel hair and a heart-shaped face. She was slightly rounder than the pixie-like thing currently bouncing up and down in front of me.
"Er…Hello. May I help you?" I asked, trying to be polite. It couldn't be very late, because the sun was still blaring, but not yet setting.
"Hi! My name is Esme, and this is—"
"Alice!"
"Alice. We live next door, and I'm using the term loosely. We live about a mile away, but there is no other house between us." The woman said. I nodded, giving them a small smile.
"And why are you here?" I asked. The pixie-no Alice- rolled her eyes.
"To welcome you to the neighborhood, silly! Esme owns the realty company and knew someone moved in today!" Alice exclaimed.
"Uh, well, thanks. Would you…uh….like to come in?" I asked, my manners finally working their way through.
"Sure!" Alice said, and bounced into the house. Esme gave me a soft, motherly smile as she passed. I smiled back and led them to the living room. Esme sat daintily on the loveseat, and Alice plopped down beside her.
"So, where is your family?" Esme asked politely. I thought about Mum, probably missing me, and Severus and Lucius and Draco, my non-family family.
"Well, My parents died a few years ago in a freak accident and since then I've lived with my uncle and cousin in London. Until I got approved for emancipation. I decided to just move to a random small town, and now here I am!" I said, grinning at the last part. Esme looked sad, probably over my 'orphan' status. Alice sober up a bit,but was still bouncing slightly.
"I'm sorry for your loss, dear. We actually came here to say that you are welcome to come to our house anytime. We've definitely got a full house, but the kids always love meeting new people, especially kids their age." Esme said, folding her hands on her lap.
"Mom, we're not kids! We're almost adults!" Alice said indignantly. I giggled.
"So how many kids do you have?" I asked, wondering exactly how full of a house it really was.
"Well, Carlisle and I adopted all five of our kids. Alice and Edward will be juniors this year. Emmett, Rosalie, and Jasper will be Seniors. Rosalie and Jasper are twins, and Emmett, Edward, and Alice are siblings, so it's a pretty good environment for them, I think." Esme answered. Wow. I wasn't really asking for that much information, but cool.
"Wow. It must be crazy having that many siblings!" I said, directing the statement toward Alice. She grinned.
"It's actually pretty cool 'cause I get to dress everyone up all the time." Alice said, bouncing again with excitement. Esme smiled that motherly smile again.
"Alice is a bit of a shopaholic." Esme said, by way of explanation.
"Oh." What an intelligent remark, Bella.
"Well, we really must be going." Esme said, standing up and smoothing out her skirt. I nodded and stood as well to lead them out.
"Hey wait! I remember you! From the plane, right?" I asked, looking at Alice in question.
"I was waiting on you to figure that out." She responded with a smirk, and they left.
