Official Disclaimer

The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steven 'Steve' McGarrett, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua, Victor Hesse, Anton Hesse, Former Detective John 'Johnny / Jack' McGarrett, Mary McGarrett, Kamekona Tupuola, Lieutenant Catherine 'Cath' Rollins, Frederick 'Fred' Doran, Detective Meka Hanamoa, Amy Hanamoa and Billy Hanamoa do not belong to me in any shape or form. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.

The character of Detective Sergeant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on male Danny, she soon evolved becoming her own person. She has her own background, her own family, her own history and her own distinct personality. This isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at times. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship with his ex.

The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to the change in Danni. Her surname is Taylor as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni reverted back to her maiden name when she was divorced). Her parents also are amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she's still the sweetheart we know and love, if anything she's more a sweetheart now.

The character of Duncan Taylor, Detective Rory Clements, Supervisory Special Agent in charge Ryan Moore, Special Agent Kale Meade, Special Agent Alexis Moss, Jeanine Landon, William 'Will' McGarrett, Noah Landon, Anna Michaels nee Landon, Theresa Law nee Landon, Deborah 'Debs' Landon and Michael Landon also belongs to me as does any other character who you do not recognise from the show. Please do not use them, or my version of Danni and Grace without first asking for my permission to do so.

Thank you.

Official Summary

When Danni Williams moves to Hawaii, all she wants to do is keep her head down and survive the time she had to stay there. The last thing she expected was to meet Steve McGarrett, a man who seems more intent on getting her blown up and finding out everything about her life than he is about following proper procedure. Danni has a job to do though and one way or another she is going to do it.

Chapter Summary

Danni stood still, waiting for Chin to give them some details about what he meant but instead he remained silent, his brow furrowed slightly as though he was deep in thought.

Chapter Fourteen

Three become four

Danni stood still, waiting for Chin to give them some details about what he meant but instead he remained silent, his brow furrowed slightly as though he was deep in thought.

"Chin, please tell me that you aren't going to be another McGarrett in the way that you make a broad statement, knowing that it's going to make people curious about what you meant and then fail to give them any actual details about what you're talking about. Working with one person like that is going to hard enough to deal with but having two may end up with me pulling my hair out through sheer frustration." Danni remarked, breaking the silence between them and attracting Steve's and Chin's attention. She placed her hands on her hips, gaze locking on Chin's when he looked at her. She searched his dark eyes for a moment, sighing as she shook her head, answering her own question. "You are, aren't you? Between you and him I'm guessing I can kiss my hopes of a quiet, peaceful work life away." She stated, waving her hand towards Steve who merely raised an eyebrow at her in response.

Chin shifted slightly on the spot, crossing his arms over his chest as he tilted his head to the side, keeping his own gaze on her. He at least seemed to give her comment some consideration before he shrugged at her, his mouth curving upwards into a warm smile.

"It's quite possible Danni" He agreed, a sympathetic note to his voice which made her sigh again.

"Well at least you're honest with me about it" She responded with a shake of her head as she leaned forward, resting her forearms on the table surface, her eyes moving towards Steve when he spoke up.

"I'm assuming that you know where this person is at this moment in time?" He queried, glancing down at the watch on his wrist.

"Yeah, I do Steve" Chin assured him confidently, following Steve's lead as he looked down at his own watch, he stared at it for a moment, his mind clearly working quickly before he looked back up. "If we left here now then we'll be able to get down to the North Shore in time to catch them before they leave. If we miss them there, then it might be harder to track them down and time isn't greatly on our side at the moment."

"The North Shore2 Steve repeated with a frown. "So, the guy you think is perfect for this job is currently down at the beach?" He demanded. Chin shrugged at the question, looking unperturbed by the annoyed tone to Steve's voice.

"Hey, they've got a day off. It's not my place to tell them how they should or should not spend their free time. It's their decision after all." He remarked.

"People are allowed to have time off Steve." Danni added quietly looking at her partner before she looked at Chin. "I just need to grab something quickly, as soon as I'm back then you should head off. It's a drive to North Shore from here and you don't want to have to waste time finding them. Chin, could you drop your friend a text and tell them that you're on the way and for them to wait for you there? I'm guessing whoever this person is they will have their cell phone with them. If they know you're coming and stick around then it will save us time and effort." She remarked.

"I'm not sure whether they'll bother looking at their phone but there's no harm in sending it to them just in case." Chin agreed, reaching into the pocket of his trousers and pulling out his cell phone. Danni smiled, before she pushed herself back into a standing position and skirted round the table, crossing the room and headed into Steve's office. She stopped at the desk, wrinkling her nose at the state of it before she began moving files and papers around.

"So, care to explain to me what exactly you're doing in my office other than moving my belongings around my desk?"

Danni glanced up at the sound of Steve's voice, taking in his casual pose before she shook her head at him. She severely doubted that anything which the man in front of her did was casual. Steve was the type of man as far as she could tell who had everything planned for. It might look to a normal, untrained person that Steve was merely leaning his body against the doorframe watching her but Danni was willing to bet that he had already mapped out every possible scenario which might occur and no doubt had several exit strategies in place as well. It would be an almost impressive talent if she didn't find the fact that he couldn't relax strangely sad to witness.

"I was looking for a notepad" She told him, turning her attention back to her search, making a triumphant sound when she found one underneath one of the files which he still needed to put away. "I have nothing in this building unless you count myself and what I have in my bag at the moment. Everything I need and which belongs to me is still at my old desk back at the precinct and is no doubt being stolen by the other Detectives as we speak as some sort of punishment for landing this job. I need to head over there and clean it out while I still have something to clean out." She remarked thoughtfully.

"Why do you need to use a notepad and pen?" Steve asked, sounding genuinely curious. "If you needed to use something then you could have used the laptop which is set up outside." He suggested, jerking his thumb over his shoulder indicating the laptop in question. Danni raised her eyebrow, leaning slightly to the side so she could see past Steve's tall frame. She smiled when she caught the expression on Chin's face. The older man was hovering over the laptop, looking down at it as though all his Christmas's and Birthday presents had come all at once for him. Shake her head, she looked back towards Steve.

"Call me old fashioned but I'd rather use a notepad and pen" She told him. "I'm okay at technology but I'm not fantastic at it and I think it's pretty safe to say that the laptop out there is high tech, probably one of the best models out on the market at the moment so it might be better for everyone involved if I keep my distance from it and leave the technological work on expensive pieces of equipment to you and Chin." She suggested with a slight smile before dropping her eyes again.

"You're going to have to get used to using it Danni" Steve pointed out reasonably, bringing her eyes back up towards him again. "I hardly need to tell you of all people how important computer work is in this line of work we're in."

Danni nodded at him.

"I know Steve" She replied. "And when it comes to working the systems that HPD use regularly then I'm your girl because I know those systems like the back of my hand because they are pretty universal. I used something extremely similar back when I in New Jersey. What I don't want is to use something which probably costs more than my annual salary so if it's all the same to you Steve. I'll leave that side of things to you and Chin until my own computer arrives for me to use. You said it yourself earlier that it's already on its way here so I won't be leaving you in the lurch or anything like that."

"Fine" Steve said after a moment's pause. "If you feel that strongly about it then I guess we can wait until your own computer arrives here."

"Good answer" She remarked lightly before continuing to speak as she leaned down towards his desk. "As for your original question, well I like to be organised especially when it comes to work. Having a visual list of what I need to do helps me. It's going to be especially handy if we're going to end up as busy as I think we will. I don't want us to forget something just because a new case has come in for us to work on. Little mistakes like that can make all the difference when it comes to convicting someone." She stated before she began writing on the pad. She was half way through the third bullet point when she realised that Steve was still standing in the doorway, watching her work with a look on his face as though she was an interesting specimen which he had just come across which he wanted to study. Danni shot him a questioning look, ignoring the sudden heat she could feel on her cheeks indicating that she was blushing. "What is it?" She asked him. "Do you need me to move out of your office because if that's the case then just say so and I'll move out of here and back into the bul-pen so you can have the room again."

"I don't mind if you use my office Danni, it's not as though you can use your allocated one yet, there's not even a chair in there yet." Steve responded, pushing himself away from the doorframe and moving into the room. "But your list on what you still need to get done is going to have to wait for a bit longer. You heard what Chin said earlier to us, we need to set out now for the North Shore if we're going to catch his mysterious accomplice before they disappear again."

"I haven't forgotten about it." Danni said absently with a glance down at her already growing list. "Do you think you need me there for that or is it something which you and Chin could handle alone? I could stay here and start getting some of the things we need to get done today completed. I'm only here six o clock odd and it would be good to at least have one or two things crossed off from this." She commented, waving the notepad at him to indicate what she meant.

"What exactly is on that list Danni?" Steve demanded, coming to a stop next to her and making a grab for the notepad she was holding, scowling down at her when she evaded his attempt.

"Things which need to be done within the next couple of days are currently on the list Steven." She told him, she met his eyes, glaring at him for a moment before she relented with a sigh, knowing already from the look in his eyes that he wouldn't drop this. "Fine, I've got to request the file which HPD have on Sang Min from the file department and collect it if they can find it quickly. I've got to write a full, detailed report on Fred Doran's arrest from earlier. I've got to start gathering the evidence from CSU and combine it with the reports so that we can present it to the DA's office, they need that as soon as possible so they can make a decision about what they are going to actually charge him with. I've got to make arrangements to have Doran moved from the holding cell in a suitable facility. On top of that I still need to head back to HPD to collect my belonging and I need to go through Doran's guns when they arrive to see whether they are linked to any open or closed cases and to see whether he actually has a permit for them. This is all before your friend in the Navy who is helping you provides is with the name of Hesse's accomplice which just opens up a whole lot of more work for me. So yeah if I can get cracking on the list now then it would be a big help." She told him, reaching up and gripping the back of her neck.

For a moment Steve stared at her before he spoke, his tone calm and steady, relaxing her despite herself.

"Give half of what is on the list to Chin to do" He stated, meeting her gaze as he continued to speak. "This isn't like your old department was Danni. You've already proven to me what a competent Detective you are. You don't have to work yourself into the ground to impress anyone on this team or to prove to them that you belong here because you do. Chin might have been out of the game for a few years but he probably still remembers how to go through records and check whether a gun has a permit so use him as a resource."

"I guess so" Danni said reluctantly, glancing passed Steve and looking at Chin, smiling when he caught her eyes and shot her a smile of his own. "Having someone who know what they are doing and who are actually willing to help me will make a nice change. I guess I'm use to only relying on myself, Meka and Rory when it comes to my work."

"That was in the past Danni, you can rely on both me and Chin to help you now. We are a team now after all" He told her, reaching out and putting his hand on her shoulder, lightly squeezing down on it. "Now grab your bag and lets' go. I've listened to your argument about staying but I need you out there with me, everything hinges on this person being the right person for this undercover job and I need your opinion on them. If you don't think they are suitable for it then I need you to tell me right there and then so we can look elsewhere. This undercover operation is the only way we're going to get Sang Min and Hesse and I know you still want to shut down Sang Min's trafficking ring, right?" He questioned her, a serious tone to his voice.

"Right" Danni responded with a nod of her head, her mouth curving into a slight smile. "You've made your point so let's head out."

"See problem solved" Steve remarked with a half-smile before he turned and headed out of the office. Danni stared after him for a moment before she sighed out loud, tilting her head back so she was looking up at the white ceiling above her.

"Seriously are you punishing me or something? Because this certainly feels like I'm being punished for something and I'm not sure I like it" She remarked quietly with a sigh before she lowered her eyes, setting her shoulders and heading out of the room and back into the bul-pen. Her eyes immediately landed on Chin who was still looking at something on the laptop. "Chin, have you still got the information on Sang Min on the laptop?" She asked him.

"Yeah Danni, I've got the information here, is there something you were looking for in particular?" He asked her, looking up with a questioning look at her.

"I just need to get the file reference number for him please?" She asked him.

"Sure, just give me a second Danni and you'll have it." He told her, his fingers flying across the keyboard in a way which Danni found herself envying. "Okay I got it for you, according to the HPD records his file number is SM45986CH" Danni nodded, quickly jotting the number down on the note pad before she looked up at him, flashing him a smile.

"Thanks for looking that up for me Chin" She said., moving over to him and picking her bag up from the table leg where she had dropped it. "We better head out" She remarked, heading towards the door and out into the corridor towards the elevators where she pressed the call button, humming to herself as she waited for it to respond. She fished out her cell phone, wincing when she saw that she had two missed calls and voice mails from Amy. She could already imagine exactly what her friend had to say to her, especially if she had spoken to Meka who revealed already to her about Danni's new job, it wouldn't have surprised her, Meka had never been good at hiding anything from his wife. She would have to call her friend back later on when she was at home and Grace was in bed.

She moved into the elevator when the door opened, holding her hand out and stopping the doors from sliding shut until Steve and Chin joined her in the space. They were talking quietly to each other over something but Danni ignored them, looking over once in their general directions before she looked back in front of her. If their conversation was important enough to include her then they would include her, otherwise they could just get on with whatever it was that they were discussing with each other.

They headed out of the building and towards their respective vehicles without any further delays.

"So, we're heading over to the North Shore, right?" Danni remarked, glancing at Steve as she climbed into the car and started the engine up.

"Yeah, that's where Chin says our potential undercover person is spending their day off" Steve confirmed as he leaned back in the passenger seat. "Have you managed to head over there yet or is it a place which is still on your list of places to eventually head to?" He asked her curiously, tilting her head on the seat so he could see her reaction to his question.

"Actually, the North Shore is somewhere I have been to before. I've been there a few times thinking about it." Danni answered brightly as she followed Chin's motorbike out of the car park and onto the main road, joining the steady flow of traffic.

"Thank god for that" Steve responded, looking back out of the window screen, "I was beginning to think that you hadn't visited any of the sights which makes Hawaii famous."

"I'd be the first to admit that I haven't seen as much of Hawaii as I should have but there have been places which we have been. Grace and I have been to a few of the sights and she loved them. She especially loves the North Shore though I think she was disappointed that I wouldn't allow her to take surfing lessons" Danni remarked with a sigh, her mind flickering back to the day in question and the look of unhappiness which had briefly covered Grace's face at Danni's refusal to her request. Danni would do anything to make her daughter happy but she still had to keep her safe. Surfing lessons with someone who Danni didn't know or trust was on thing which she wouldn't allow to happen. Thankfully for her sake, Duncan agreed with her wholeheartedly and had backed her up when Grace had gone to him with the same request.

"You said earlier that your daughter was seven and a half, right?" Steve asked, continuing when she nodded at him. "Well seven is a good age to start learning to surf. She'd probably would enjoy it."

"Oh, I have no doubt that she would enjoy every moment of it." Danni replied, her hands tightening on the wheel slightly. "But unless I know her instructor well and I trust the person then it's never going to happen regardless of what she wants. Nothing in more important to me than Grace and I will keep her safe from harm even if it means she had to wait until she is older to do things which she wants to do."

Steve opened his mouth as if he was going to say something but instead he closed it, looking at her with a searching look for a moment, that look in his eyes again which she couldn't quite read but which left her feeling unnerved.

"So where else have you and Grace been other than the North Shore then and for the record Danielle, your house and Hanamoa's house are not to be included." He told her sternly.

"Well Meka took us to see the Paradise Cove Luau, Gracie loved that, she's already begging to be allowed to do dancing lessons so she could learn it." Danni remarked, her mouth curling into a smile.

"That's always a good thing to see, what else?" Steve pressed, for a moment Danni thought about reminding him that they were on a case and should focus their attention on that but she stopped herself. Steve was probably trying to distract himself from his thoughts by talking to her about a random topic.

"I can't think of anything else off hand right now." She admitted with a sigh as she glanced towards him, raising an eyebrow at him. "What's with the sudden interest in my social life anyway, do you want to be my travel agent or something." She queried with a shake of her head as she looked out of the window screen making sure that Chin was still in her sight line.

"Maybe I should be" Steve responded attracting her attention to him. "It sounds like you've seen two things in six months of being here. If you went to anywhere else it was probably only because Hanamoa or one of your other friends picked it out and you went along with it. Have you taken your daughter to swim with the Dolphins yet? People tend to do that while they are visiting the island" He remarked with a thoughtful frown.

"Not yet" Danni answered after a pause, tapping her fingertips against the steering wheel. "I'm planning for us to go because Gracie loves the oceans and she especially loves Dolphins. It's one of the things which she was most excited about doing now that we live here. One of her old friends back in New Jersey came out here last year on vacation and told her all about it. My problem is that we don't have much spare time at the moment and it's expensive. It's funny because when we first came over here I thought that we would have nothing but time on our hands but it hasn't worked out that way thankfully. We're always busy." Danni fell silent, surprised at herself for revealing so much to Steve, not only that but that she had allowed herself to be brought into a conversation which she had, had no intention of actually participating in. "We should focus on something other than mine and Grace's social lives. It's not exactly out biggest concern right now after all."

"Actually, it feels like it is my concern when you tell me how little you've done here. You're missing out on so much that the island has to offer you Danni" Steve told her quietly.

Danni's eyes flickered towards him, meeting his gaze for a moment as she searched his blue eyes before she forced herself to look back at the road.

"So what Steve, are you volunteering yourself to be my guide to the island of Hawaii? Are you going to take me to all the sights you think I'm missing out on?" She asked him, expecting him to say no.

"Yeah, I am, give me a couple of weeks to get some things sorted out and then we can start." He stated with a casual shrug ignoring her startled look at him before he pointed his finger towards the road. "The turn off for North Shore is coming up now on the right."

"Yeah, I remember that" Danni responded quietly, slowing the car down as they approached it and hit the indicator, waiting for a space to appear before she took the turn and headed into the car park. She pulled into the first available space and climbed out of the car, leaning in and taking her bag from Steve before she closed the door behind her, locking it once Steve had done the same thing. She glanced around her, her eyes landed on Chin who was standing patiently beside his bike. "There's Chin" She said to Steve over the roof of the car before she turned and headed across the carpark towards where the older native was waiting for them.

"Hey you made it, I wasn't sure if I had lost you when that jeep swerved in-between is." Chin remarked, his eyes searching her face for a moment with a look of almost concern though none of it leaked into his voice.

"No, we were fine Chin, this is one of the few places which I have been to a few times so once we were on the main road I knew exactly where to go." Danni replied, standing straight as she pushed the strange conversation with Steve from her mind and focused instead on the task at hand. "Where so we need to go to find your person? Did they respond to the text which you sent?" She asked him curiously.

"No, they didn't but that is a good sign since it points to them still being on the waves" Chin answered, looking around him for a moment. "We need to go down this way." He stated, leading them to the edge of the car park and down a set of worn down steps which led directly onto the beach. Danni climbed down them, stepping to the side and slipped her shoes off for the second time of the day before she began following Chin again who hadn't stopped. She glanced to the side, surprised to see that Steve had waited for her and was now walking silently beside her. She waited to see whether he would say something but he remained quiet, merely matching his longer pace to hers with a thoughtful look on his face. "There she is guys" Chin said proudly, coming to a stop beside a bag and towel and nodding towards the ocean. "My cousin Kono Kalakaua, she might be young but she's perfect for what we need."

Danni followed the direction of his finger, her eyes landed on a young-looking woman in a slip of a blue bikini. From a distance she looked as though she was in her mid to late twenties, her movement on the board were graceful and sure as she navigated the waves like a pro. Danni raised an eyebrow as she shook her head.

"Wow" She stated, glancing at Chin and smiling at his questioning look. "You know I'm not expert when it comes to surfing by any state of the imagination but even I can tell from a glance how good your cousin is."

"Not just good Danni but damn good." Chin corrected, dropping his hand on Danni's shoulder with a friendly grin. "Kono is perhaps one of the best surfers of recent time." He told her, taking his hand back and focusing back on his cousin. "She's off the charts, she's intelligent, physical. I don't think that she's lost a fight since she was five years old and I'm pretty sure that the only reason she lost is because her older brother actually cheated during it. Then there's the surfing side of things. Kono spent three years on the pro circuit winning everything until one competition when she blew her knee out. The kid was devasted as you can imagine, everything she had spent her life working towards was gone in an instance. She had to reinvent herself so she decided to follow in our family tradition and wear a badge. She's due to graduate from the police academy next week and is in the top five of the year."

"She sounds extremely talented" Danni remarked, turning to give Chin a surprised look when he sighed heavily at her compliment.

"She is but unfortunately for her she's family which means that no one at HPD will take her seriously because of her known connection to me. She'll be left with all the shitty jobs that no one else wants to do and there's nothing which she will be able to do about it." Chin remarked bitterly.

Danni remained silent, looking towards Steve when a loud shout from the ocean caught her attention. She turned around just in time to see Kono and a tall man who was clearly there on a vacation, collide together hard, both of them taking a tumble off their board and into the waiting ocean.

"Are you sure that your cousin will be ready to do something of this level is she is still in the academy?" Steve asked, speaking for the first time since they had arrived on the beach, a frown on his face as he looked towards the spot where Kono had entered the waves. "We are talking about throwing her straight into the big league with this job. She will be in danger the entire time." Steve glanced towards them, his eyes hidden by the pair of sunglasses which he had produced from somewhere. "Will your cousin be able to handle herself if things go badly during the op?" He pressed.

"Hey Brah!" A feminine voice cried out angrily attracting the groups attention again. Danni tilted her head to the side as Kono came out of the sea, her surfboard beneath her arm. She paid them no attention, her dark gaze fixed on the man who had collided with her. Danni watched as Kono reached the man, her arm jerking round as she landed a sharp punch round the man's face, sending him crashing to the ground with seemingly no effort on her part. "Maybe think twice the next time you want to drop in on someone else's wave without an invitation. They might not be as nice about it was I was." She informed the man before she turned away from him and moved towards them. Her eyes came up, a wide grin showing off her perfectly straight white teeth, coming to her face when she saw Chin waiting for her. "Cousin!" She squealed, jogging towards him, she took a quick second to jab her surfboard into the sand before wrapping her arms around Chin and giving him a fierce hug, which instantly told Danni without words that the two of them were extremely close to one another.

"Oh, you had him Water Woman! That was a double headed waste. Perhaps you should have kicked him some more while he was still lying on the floor." Chin remarked as he pulled away from Kono, nodding his head towards the man who was slowly getting to his feet, gingerly rubbing at his jaw while his friends laughed and teased him about what had just occurred.

"I know right? Talk about a waste of a perfectly good wave. That was the first good pipe of the season and look what happened." She complained, crossing her arms over her chest and brushing some of her dark hair away from her face.

"That's tourists for you Cuz, you can't live with them…"

"And can't take them out either" Kono ended his sentence with a wink and a grin. "Well we could take them out but I doubt it would look good on our records if we did. I'm not sure whether there would be a judge out there who would accept our reasons for doing it as a valid reason" She pointed out with a sigh.

"Well that would definitely depend on what judge you were given, if he or she was a surfer then they would definitely understand our reasoning behind doing it." Chin responded, for a second the two of them stood grinning at each other before Chin spoke again, his tone changing becoming more serious. "Kono, I want you to meet Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett and Detective Danni Williams" He introduced waving his hand towards them both.

"That's a nice right hook you have there." Steve commented, uncrossing his arms and holding his hand out to Kono. "I doubt he'll make the mistake of taking someone else's wave any time soon." Kono grinned at the comment, taking the proffered hand and shaking it before she dropped it.

"Naw Brah, that was just a little love tap that's all." She pointed out with a cheeky grin before she turned to look at Danni, her dark eyes scanning Danni's face carefully as though she was sizing her up in her mind. Whatever she saw was apparently enough to past Kono's test because the other woman's face broke out into a large smile. "So, you're Danni Williams then, I was hoping I would get the chance to meet you eventually. You were meant to come in and give a talk at the Academy but they cancelled it last minutes, saying that you couldn't make it in for it?"

"Oh" Danni said, her own eyes widening in surprise. "I had forgotten all about that. I had a case which came in and which needed my full attention. I meant to reschedule it but…" Her voice trailed off as she shrugged before she smiled. "It's nice to meet you as well Kono."

"Maybe later on we could grab a drink together and you could give me the low down on what you were going to tell us. I mean you are the only woman Detective in HPD at the moment and lets be honest your record back in New Jersey was impressive and you headed up your own team. It doesn't take a genius to know that HPD is an all boy's club. They must have got a shock when they all laid eyes on you for the first time. I bet they had thought you were going to be a man or something because of your name."

Danni laughed at the comment, deciding instantly that she liked Kono, there was something about the other woman's enthusiasm which was infectious.

"Well it's safe to say that I got a few strange looks on my first day there" She admitted. "And yeah I don't have any issue with meeting up soon. I'm busy this week but maybe next Wednesday?" She suggested, smiling when Kono instantly nodded at her.

"I can make next Wednesday" She stated happily before she looked down at Danni. "Loving the dress by the way, did you get in here in Hawaii?" She asked curiously, looking disappointed when Danni shook her head at her.

"I got it in New Jersey in a sale" She answered, looking towards Steve when he wrapped his hand around Danni's elbow and pulled her back slightly so she was by his side, speaking as he did.

"How do you feel about earning some extra credit?" Steve asked in a brisk tone, telling them without words that the time for socialising was over in his eyes.

"I can always use the extra credit." Kono answered looking back towards him. "What exactly do you have in mind for me?"

Some undercover work for us." Steve answered. "Chin seems to think that you would be perfect for the job in question and I trust his judgement. It would be better if we speak about what exactly is entailed back at the headquarters rather than here where we can be overheard."

Danni blinked when her cell phone suddenly went off attracting her attention, she quickly opened her bag and fished it out, glancing down at the screen before she answered the call.

"Detective Williams"

"Hey Jersey, it's Boston"

"Hey Boston, give me a second" She said, taking the handset away from her ear for a second and glancing around the other three. "Excuse me a moment, I have to take this" She said before she moved away speaking into her phone again, her voice lowered as she looked around her to make sure that no one was paying her any attention. "You've got that serious tone you use when you mean business on. Has something happened at the Doran trailer? Did you or one of the others guys find something while you were there?" She questioned.

"I found something which I think that you're going to want to see straight away Danni" He told her.

"Okay then." Danni said slowly. "Are you still at the crime scene or have you headed back to the labs instead." She asked him, tilting her head to the side and focusing on the ocean.

"I'm just heading back to the labs now with some of my team. Alexis, Kale and one or two others are going to stay behind to give the trailer a last sweep. Can you meet me in my lab say in thirty minutes? I need to…. Sorry give me a moment Jersey" He stated, sounding briefly annoyed, there was a sound like he had covered his mouthpiece with his hand as he spoke to someone else, clearly giving them some instructions before he spoke again, his voice becoming clear again. "Sorry about that, I'll let Mitch at the front desk know you're coming over to the labs to see me."

"Thanks for that, I'm just finishing something up but as soon as it's finished I'll drive over to you" She promised him.

"Sounds good to me, I'll see your later Jersey."

"Yeah see you later Boston" She replied before she ended the call at her end, glancing down at the screen again before she dropped the handset back into the bag and turned around, making her way across the sand to where the other three were, they had moved and were now standing beside the stair case leading to the car park. "That was Ryan" she announced as she stopped by them, looking at Steve. "He's found something which he thinks is important and wants me to see it. Do you want me to drop you back at Headquarters and meet you there later or do you want to come with me to see what it is?" She asked him.

"I'll come with you to see it Danni" Steve answered her with no hesitation. He turned to Chin and spoke. "Chin, take Kono back to the office and wait for us there. I doubt we'll be very long and then when we're back we can explain the plan for tomorrow to you." He stated, waiting for Chin to nod before he turned to Kono. "Sorry to keep you hanging around like this but everything will be explained to you soon" He promised before he looked back at Danni. "Let's head over there now Danni."

Danni smiled at Chin and Kono before she sighed as Steve wrapped his arm round her elbow and began pulling her up the stairs.

"We'll see you both shortly back at the office" Danni called over her shoulder before turning her attention to the ground to make sure she didn't trip over anything.

"Did he say anything about what it was that he wanted to show you?" Steve queried the minute they were both back in the car together.

"He didn't go into any details Steve, all he said was that he had something to show me and to meet him back at his lab with CSU." Danni answered, glancing towards her partner. "Whatever he found must be pretty important for him to call me though, normally he makes do with emailing me his findings before he does his official report. I don't remember him calling me before for a case," She said, feeling troubled.

"Well we'll soon see what he needs to show us Danni" Steve answered with a glance towards her. She nodded, tilting her head and meeting his gaze directly.

"We shall indeed."
