Official Disclaimer
The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steven 'Steve' McGarrett, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua, Victor Hesse, Anton Hesse, Former Detective John 'Johnny / Jack' McGarrett, Mary McGarrett, Kamekona Tupuola, Lieutenant Catherine 'Cath' Rollins, Frederick 'Fred' Doran, Detective Meka Hanamoa, Amy Hanamoa and Billy Hanamoa do not belong to me in any shape or form. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.
The character of Detective Sergeant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on male Danny, she soon evolved becoming her own person. She has her own background, her own family, her own history and her own distinct personality. This isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at times. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship with his ex.
The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to the change in Danni. Her surname is Taylor as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni reverted back to her maiden name when she was divorced). Her parents also are amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she's still the sweetheart we know and love, if anything she's more a sweetheart now.
The character of Duncan Taylor, Detective Rory Clements, Supervisory Special Agent in charge Ryan Moore, Special Agent Kale Meade, Special Agent Alexis Moss, Jeanine Landon, William 'Will' McGarrett, Noah Landon, Anna Michaels nee Landon, Theresa Law nee Landon, Deborah 'Debs' Landon and Michael Landon also belong to me as does any other character who you do not recognise from the show. Please do not use them, or my version of Danni and Grace without first asking for my permission to do so.
Thank you.

Here's the next chapter for you all.
Please note that this and the next few chapters are action based, which isn't my strongest suit, but hopefully I have still done a good job for you all!

Official Summary
When Danni Williams moves to Hawaii, all she wants to do is keep her head down and survive the time she had to stay there. The last thing she expected was to meet Steve McGarrett, a man who seems more intent on getting her blown up and finding out everything about her life than he is about following proper procedure. Danni has a job to do though and one way or another she is going to do it.
Chapter Summary
Danni looked cautiously around her, her eyes continuously scanning the surrounding area for any sign of movement which might have indicated that she and Steve were no longer alone together. She couldn't shake the feeling that they should have done more intel before putting the plan into action instead of walking relatively blindly into it. They had no idea of the routine which Sang Min's guards had established and the more she thought about it, the more it concerned her.

Did they check in with each other every few minutes using a code word? Did they simply check in with each other when their routes happened to coincide with one another? Was there a certain time they need to check in by? How exactly did they check in with each other?
There were too many variables to know for certain how this operation was run and until they did know, Danni was going to remain vigilant. There was no way they were going to be taken by surprise if she could help it, not when there was so much riding on this operation succeeding.
She glanced up at Steve, searching his face carefully. He looked focused, a glint to his eyes which made her shudder though she made sure that she didn't betray the reaction. There was no doubt in her mind that the SEAL standing so still beside her was in his zone. He was finally close to finding Victor Hesse and she doubted that he would allow anything now to keep him from finding him. That much she already knew about him.
Danni looked away at the sound of an approaching truck, her eyes flickering towards it as she moved back into the cover behind her, her hand tightening on her gun, ready to use it if the situation demanded it. It was likely that it was Chin arriving but likely didn't mean definitely. Sang Min clearly had a lot of businesses going on in this area of the island and for all they knew he could have been in the middle of an operation of his own. One that would explain the amount of guards he had on duty considering how early it still was.
She relaxed slightly when she saw Chin sitting in the driver seat of the truck with a calm expression on his face which indicated that everything on his end had gone forward without a hitch. Danni shared a quick look with Steve before they both stepped out into the open when the older man pulled into the space he had chosen the night before and killed the engine. For a moment he remained seated in the seat, fiddling with something before he pushed the driver's door open and jumped out, closing it behind him and moving to the front of the truck, his dark eyes focused on them, scanning them as though he was searching for any visible sign of injury.
"Hey" He remarked, moving towards where they were standing and stopping in front of them. "How did things go your end? Any problems?"
"None" Steve answered with a shake of his head. "We've cleared the area of the guards so we're good to go." He nodded at Chin before he moved passed them both and headed towards the back of the truck, pulling the door open and climbed in, closing it behind him.
Danni raised her eyebrow at the action before she rolled her eyes and instead focused her attention on Chin.
"What about you Chin? Did you have any problems getting here? Did you make the drop without any issues?" She asked him curiously, tilting her head slightly to the side out of habit.
"Yeah there were no issues at my end. I dropped Kono off at the area we had decided on and no one saw so she's safe at the moment. She's a good kid Danni, she knows what is riding on this op and she's not going to mess it up." He told her, the comment and conviction behind it causing Danni to laugh softly for a moment before she spoke.
"I have no doubt at all that she still has the lecture which you gave her on the way over here ringing in her ear. As long as she listened to that then she'll be fine." She agreed, reaching over and placing her hand on Chin's forearm, giving it a comforting squeeze before she removed it. "How are you holding up? I know how nerve wracking it can be when the bait in an operation is someone who is a friend or a relative." She remarked quietly. She knew from personal experience that the more you cared about someone, the harder it was to just sit back and allow things to play out the way they needed to play out.
"I'm okay, maybe slightly concerned because she was grinning too much and acting as though this was a game of some kind and we both know from experience that this is anything but a game. She needed to wise up and know that the men in there wouldn't hesitate to kill her if they doubted even a small portion of her cover story. She needed to understand that she isn't dealing with training officers anymore who would just give her a small slap on the wrist if she messed up before they sent her on her way to join the other cadets."
"I know" Danni said soothingly with a nod. "But she's going to be fine Chin, if you really thought she wouldn't be up for the job then you wouldn't have suggested her for the op in the first place and I can promise you that Steve would never have agreed to using her if he held any doubts about her. If something goes wrong with this operation than it won't be down to something Kono does, I'm sure of it." She stated firmly before she reached into the pocket of her jeans and pulled out two small keys which she held out to Chin who glanced down at them before looking up at her with a questioning look. "I need you to do me a favour, we took out some of the guards but I needed to handcuff two of them up, one to a ladder and the other to a pipe. We obviously can't leave them there because if we do and they wake up then they are going to start yelling the place down and that's the last thing we would want. Could you go and gather them up and bring them over here. We might as well stick them in the truck so we can keep an eye on them." She asked him.
"Yeah I can do that for you." Chin agreed as he reached out and took the keys from her "What about the other people? Do you know where they are?" He questioned, raising an eyebrow when she shook her head.
"Steve dealt with the other guards when we split up, I doubt the ones he dealt with will be waking up anytime soon." She said, Chin glanced towards the truck before he looked back at her.
"How long do we have before this all kicks off?" He queried.
"About fifteen minutes until Kono walks through Sang Min's door" Danni answered after glancing down at her watch. "I'll go and help Steve set everything up in the truck while you get the guards. They'll be hidden but you'll be able to find them." She assured him.
"Leave it with me, I'll see whether I can round up the guards who Steve dealt with" Chin responded with a nod at him. "Like you said, it be better if they were all in the same place, all it would take is one of them waking up before they were meant to and then everything could be blown." He stated seriously before flashing her a quick smile and turning, heading away from her, back towards the area which she and Steve had initially come from.
Danni watched him for a moment, her eyes flickering around the area again before she finally moved, twisting on the spot and moving towards the waiting van. She pulled the heavy door open and climbed in, closing it behind her before looking at the small exterior. It was narrow and dark within, lit only by the electrical lights from the machines and computer screens which were turned on. It was crowded with several different kinds of surveillance equipment, including the one which she had signed out from the department the previous evening. Turning away from it, her eyes landed on Steve as he reached out from where he stood further in, switching on various switches with a look of determination on his face.
"Where do you need me to be?" She asked him quietly as she crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for an answer.
"Over here" Steve answered, pointed at an empty chair in front of one of the computer screens behind him. "I need you to be my eyes Danni, feeding me information about the intel which Sang Min gives to Kono. As soon as he says it, I want you confirming the legitimacy of it. I want names, records, details, anything we can use for our advantage as quickly as you can." He stated as he moved his head, capturing her gaze as he watched her with a slight frown. "I know that you said earlier in the office that technology wasn't your forte but…"
"But nothing" Danni interrupted, holding her hand up in a classic stop sign before bridging the small gap between her and the screen in question. "I may not be the best when it comes to modern technology but as I told you earlier I can work the HPD systems like the back of my hand. If the information is on there then I will find it so don't worry, I've got you covered with what you need from me."
Steve nodded at her, a half smile coming to his face for a moment before it disappeared leaving the same serious expression as before.
"Where is Chin?" He asked, glancing behind her as though he expected the older native to be standing there before he turned his attention to a screen which beeped into life in front of him. "Kono will be arriving at the entrance to the warehouse shortly and I need him here, watching the infra-red screen so we can see what is going on inside."
"He's on his way Steve" Danni said reassuringly as she lowered herself into her chair. "I asked him to go back and pick up the guards which we dealt with. The last thing we need is for one of them to wake before we've finished here and raised the alarm, bringing unnecessary attention to us all. He knows how long he has and he is well aware that this operation hinges on everything going according to plan. He'll be here in time for it. There is no way he would let Kono down by not being here to have her back."
Steve nodded once, reaching up and pinching his lower lip, looking deep in thought. Danni spared him a quick glance, waiting to see if he would say something before she turned away from him, picking up the large ear phones and placed them on, blocking out the sound from the other computers. She switched on her own screens, bringing up all the databases she would need for information gathering. By the time she had it all up and running Chin was in the truck after five separate journeys, five still unconscious guards piled in a heap near the door, all five handcuffed to the truck's interior. She reached up and pushed one of the ear phones off of her ear, her gaze fixed on him.
"I see you managed to find the guard which Steve dealt with after all" She commented. "Were there any other problems?" Chin looked up at the sound of her voice as he absently wiped the palm of his hands against his jeans.
"One of them was beginning to stir but I dealt with him before he had a chance to make a noise, other than that it went as smoothly as expected. I had no problem finding them" Chin answered her
"Good" Danni replied with a nod, tilting her head towards Steve when he cut across their conversation.
"Chin, Kono's just arrived at the meet location. I need you over here, watching." He stated, Chin moved instantly, taking the seat which Steve had indicated, Danni shared a quick look with him before she turned her attention back to her own screen, placing the headphones back on. She heard silence for a moment before there was a single click, followed by the sound of breathing, it was slightly fast as though the person was panicking while trying not to show it.
"Kono, tap your finger against your thigh twice if you can hear what I'm saying to you." Chin commanded quietly, his voice coming through loud and clear over Danni's headset. "That is a positive confirmation from her" He stated after a moment, his voice warming as he continued speaking. "You're going to be fine Cuz, just get him to admit to you how he goes about getting people onto the island without anyone knowing about it, once you've got that you need to use the excuse we discussed and get out of there." He fell silent for a moment before stating "She's just entered the building, show is on."
There was the sound of Kono being patted down before a gruff male voice spoke, instructing her to follow them into the building.
"Danni, Chin is sending you still of Sang Min's men, find out who they are and give me details on them all." Steve stated.
"I'm on it" Danni responded, waiting for a moment before two pictures popped up on the corner of her screen, she selected the first one and began running facial recognition on it before opening up a second search and beginning the same process with the second photo all the while listening to what was happening over the open coms. She frowned slightly when a new voice spoke, a voice which could only have belonged to Sang Min.
"An old friend of mine contacted me last night, he said that you need some help?" The voice was heavily accented and cocky as though the man who possessed it was well aware that he was in control of the situation and held all the cards. Danni's eyes narrowed at the tone, it never ceased to amaze her just how many times she had heard that same arrogant tone in her life time, every suspect who she had come across had it to some degree.
"I have an Aunt and Uncle living in Nanjing, they would very much like to come and live here with me." Kono responded after a slight pause, her voiced subdued and full of nerves, the sound causing Danni to smile slightly. Kono sounded exactly as she needed to sound.
Sang Min made a knowing sound at the back of his throat, remaining silent for a moment as though he was contemplating what Kono had said to him. A beeping sound on her screen attracted Danni's attention, a slight smile coming to her face when a flashing positive sign came up. She selected it, looking at the picture of Juan Martinez, Sang Min's guard who had a criminal record the length of Danni's arm. She raised an eyebrow at it before she began running his name through the other database to see what else she could find on him.
Sang Min spoke, breaking his own self-imposed silence.
"I'm sure they both do, there's a great many opportunities open to someone on this island. Many people want to come here to start a new life but not all of them can afford it or are willing to pay the price which is needed to be paid to gain that chance." He remarked, a cool, analytical tone to his voice. "I can have your Aunt and Uncle here within a week, no questions asked and good legit papers available to them which will allow them to start work straight away if they wish to. All of this though depends on money because it costs a lot of money to do what you're asking me to do. May I ask what you do for a living?" He questioned, his tone making it clear that he wasn't asking her.
"I work in the Cannery on Pacific during the week and as a housekeeper at the Royal Hawaiian during the weekends" Kono replied. "And I have money" She added when Sang Min remained silent. He made another sound at the back of his throat as though her response to him amused him.
"Working two jobs is highly commendable, only I'm afraid the sort of money which we are speaking about might be higher than you can actually pay. I'm not a bad man though, I understand family, I understand the desire of wanting them near so perhaps we can come up with another form of payment for you." He stated.
Danni frowned, glancing over her shoulder to focus on Chin's screen in time to see Sang Min climb to his feet slowly, an air of menace coming from him though all he did was move around his desk and approach Kono who had been standing in front of it, stopping in front of her. Shaking her head, she turned back, bringing up another database search and began looking for anything she could find on Sang Min's wife and son, focusing on what their activities tended to be so she could figure out their schedule for the upcoming day. Information like that could be used as leverage for Steve to use.
"I have money" Kono repeated again, the nervousness in her voice increasing noticeably making Danni wonder whether the younger woman was acting still or whether she was actually beginning to feel nervous.
"So, you've said already" Sang Min remarked. "Perhaps though we can come to some sort of arrangement between us, another way that you could pay me back for helping you. I can be very reasonable and…" His voice cut off abruptly causing Danni's fingers to freeze on the keyboard as he continued. "Sand" He said flatly. "Tell me, what kind of person who is working two jobs, seven days a week can find the time to go to the beach?" He demanded.
Danni swung round in her chair, pulling her headphones partially off her ears, allowing the noise from the truck to filter in, her eyes fixing on her partner who was standing rigidly in the same position as he had been before.
"You have to end this operation Steve, we need to get Kono out of there now" She stated. Steve's eyes flickered towards her for a moment before they focused on Chin when the older man spoke up.
"Relax Danni, Kono can handle this situation. We went through countless of different scenarios together and this was one of them. She knows what to do."
"If Sang Min smells a trap than he will kill her without a second thought Chin because he believes that no one will notice if she's gone. Did you run through that scenario with her when you were discussing them? Does she know exactly what type of man she is dealing with?" She stated, meeting the older man's eyes when he looked away from the screen and at her.
"Trust me Danni" He said quietly.
Danni stared at him for a second before she looked away to Steve who stood quietly ignoring them, his gaze still fixed on the infra-red screen watching it closely. Knowing that she had lost already she simply looked back towards Chin and gave him a single nod, moving her chair slightly to the side so she could see the scene which was unfolding in the warehouse.
"The Royal Hawaiian is situated on the beach and some of us go swimming together after work finishes" Kono answered Sang Min. Danni held her breathe when the man remained quiet, she could see that he was standing in front of Kono merely looking at her, his arms folded across his chest.
"Maybe so" He said sounding thoughtful before he spoke again. "But maybe you're an undercover cop. Did you both check her for wires when you brought her in here? Did she have a bag with her?"
"We checked it all boss, her bag and her person" A second male voice said. "She came up clean, there was nothing on her that we could find."
"Maybe you didn't check her well enough?" Sang Min retorted coldly, moving away from Kono and sitting on the edge of his desk. "You" He said waving his hand in Kono's direction. "Take off your dress."
"Take off my dress?" Kono repeated, sounding shocked at the request.
"Well done, you can hear properly. Now do it, I want to make sure that you aren't wired." He said, a tone to his voice making it clear his patience was at an end.
Kono hesitated for a moment, remaining still as she looked around him. Danni made a soft noise at the back of her throat, reaching up and hitting the switch on her headset which would allow her to be heard over the open channel.
"Kono, its Danni" She said, ignoring Steve and Chin for the moment. "Do what he says, take off your dress slowly as though you're scared to do it. When you take it off, try and hold onto it as though you feel exposed and vulnerable. He wants to feel in control right now and he wants you to know it as well so let him feel that way. This man is more likely to reveal something to you if he's positive you aren't an undercover cop, so forget all your training at the moment and act like a scared girl who is in way over her head. Do it now and don't worry you're doing great."
Kono automatically reached down and gripped the bottom of her dress and pulled it over her head leaving her standing in just her underwear. She held the dress scrunched up in one hand, her other arm wrapping around her stomach as she looked around her, doing exactly what Danni had instructed her to do. Danni was impressed, someone who could react and take orders under pressure was always a good find. In her experience people either reacted or they took orders.
Sang Min stood straighter, clearly looking Kono up and down before he made a rotation motion with his finger.
"Turn around for me nice and slowly" He said, giving a nod of approval when Kono followed his instructions. "Stop" He called out when her back was facing towards him. Danni watched as he moved towards Kono, looking at her back carefully, his hand touching something on it before he nodded, clearly satisfied that she wasn't wired. He made his way back to his desk, taking the seat again before he picked his cell phone from the surface beside him.
"I'd like to put my dress back on now" Kono stated, a hint of anger coming to her voice as she turned to face him again. A request Sang Min ignored as he took a picture of her. "What are you doing?" Kono demanded loudly.
"What did it look like I did?" Sang Min replied sounding bored. "I've taken your photo and I'm going to send it to a friend of mine and see whether he or any of his friends recognise you. If he doesn't then we can continue discussing the business we were talking about, however if he does recognise you… well…" His voice tailed off for a moment, his attention on his cell as he clearly sent the picture off before he continued speaking. "Then you're dead, little girl."
"Danni" Steve said, turning to her. "We've got a trace on that phone, tell me who he is sending that photo to." Danni swirled round in her chair, not bothering to answer him as her hands flew over the keyboard, tracing the location of the message. "Danni?"
"The trace is activated, he's sent it to a cell phone which is unlisted, its probably a pay as you go burner phone so there's no record on the system over who it belongs to." She told them.
"What's the location of the phone, does it have a GPS chip we can use?" Steve demanded.
"I've already activated it" Danni responded as she brought the information up, her eyes widening when the location of the phone flashed up on her screen. She stared at it for a moment, her mouth falling open slightly. It couldn't be.
"Danni? Come on talk to me, where is the phone located?" Steve demanded.
Danni swallowed, looking over her shoulder at Steve and Chin, her eyes still wide.
"Its inside my old precinct" She told them faintly, Chin sucking in a breath.
"You've got a mole in there" He said looking at her, Danni stared back, the uneasy feeling in her stomach growing with each passing second.
"Chin, is there anyone in HPD who knows that Kono was training at the academy to be a cop or what she looks like?" She asked him.
"I.., I don't know, I haven't shown anyone but we have a few cousins who are still on the force, they could have mentioned it to anyone." He answered her, a hint of nervousness coming to his voice as he turned back to his screen.
"Steve" Danni said, directing her comment to her comment. "There's a good chance that Kono has been compromised. We have to give her a warning and get her out of there while she is still alive to get out of there. We can't risk it." Steve nodded once at her, reaching up and connecting himself into the channel they had been speaking on.
"Kono we're aborting the operation and coming in" He stated, his eyes moving to Chin and Danni. "You two hold onto something" He stated, his eyes focusing on Danni. "Tightly" He added, "And make sure you have your guns ready." He moved swiftly through to the back of the truck and was out of the door before Danni could move.
"What is he planning to do?" Chin asked her, Danni opened her mouth to reply when the truck suddenly shuddered into life beneath them, she glanced down at the floor before she looked back at Chin.
"I've got no idea but I'm getting the feeling we should do exactly what he said and hold onto something." She responded, ripping off the earphones and checking her weapon before she reached out and held onto the fixed equipment beside her.
"She's been made" Chin called out loudly. "She's currently fighting Sang Min's goons"
Danni nodded, wincing at the sound of a blaring horn before she and Chin were flung forward as the truck barrelled through something. She hissed in pain when her arm made sharp contact with the edge of the table beside her, cutting the exposed skin.
"Remind me to have a word with him about his plans" Danni said, moving towards the back of the truck and kicking the door open, jumping down with Chin right behind her. She could hear Steve and Kono talking but ignored them, moving to the guy lying on the floor who looked as though he was getting ready to jump back into the fray again.
"Don't even think about it" She called out to him, her gun pointing at his back as he tilted his head to look at her. "Stay on the ground and keep your hands where I can see them. If you try anything cute then I promise you'll regret it" She commanded, looking quickly towards Kono. The other woman looked slightly shaken by the experienced but seemed okay. "Are you okay Kono?" She called out to her.
"Yeah I'm fine" Kono answered, moving towards her.
"You" Steve called out, cutting over any conversation they may have had as he moved towards Sang Min. "Get your hands above your head."
Danni glanced towards him as Sang Min placed his hands above his head as he was instructed, a smirk coming to his face which instantly placed Danni on edge.
"Gun!" Chin yelled from just behind her, pushing Danni out of the way as a bulled whipped passed where they had just been. Danni blinked as she hit the ground, quickly scrambling to her feet in time to see Sang Min move quickly, pulling out a machine gun from beneath his desk before he opened fire on them.
She dived behind some containers and waited, the air was filled with the sound of gunfire before a door opened and they heard the sound of running footsteps indicating that Sang Min was making a break for it.
"Is everyone good?" Steve yelled out. "Danni?"
"I'm fine" Danni called back, glancing around her cover to see Steve emerge unscathed from his own hiding place and run across the floor, heading out of a door which must have been the same one which Sang Min had used. She stood quickly, making a move to follow him when Chin grabbed her arm with a look of concern on his face.
"Danni you're bleeding, were you hit?" He demanded, nodding towards her arm.
Danni frowned at the comment, looking down to see that her arm was covered with blood, frowning she quickly inspected it before she shook her head.
"I'm fine, its nothing that can't be dealt later once we have Sang Min in custody, we need to go" She stated, hurrying out of the same door and blinking in the bright sunlight.
The scene which met her eyes once was one of carnage. A silver car had slammed against a large red container of some kind, the driver's door wide open as though it had been wrenched or kicked open. She glanced towards Steve, breathing a silent sigh of relief when she saw that he was unharmed. She moved around the back of the car, her eyebrow rising when she saw Sang Min lying prone on the ground, his arms spread out in front of him. Steve's gun trained on the back of his head, making it clear that the other man wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.
"Are you hurt Steve?" She queried.
"Fine" He replied, looking over his shoulder towards her, he looked her briefly up and down, his eyes stopping when they landed on her injured arm, for a split second he stared at it before bringing his eyes up to meet her eyes. He looked like he was going to say something but stopped as s noise from the container the car had crashed into caught both their attention.
"We've got some movement over here" Chin stated from where he stood near it. "Sounds like there might be something inside here."
"Go ahead Chin, I've got you covered" Danni said, moving towards the other man as she got into position, her gun raised ready to fire in case anyone went for them. Chin nodded once at her, turning his attention back to the container as he slowly approached it, stopping beside the door and looking at it for a second before sharing another look with Danni. She nodded at him, breathing out slowly as Chin lifted the bar and pulled the door open.
The container in front of them was crammed full of people, all of them watching the pair of them with confused, frightened looks on their faces as they huddled closer together. The same coming from the container was overwhelming making her take a small step away from it. Clearly this was the way Sang Min had been transporting people onto the island. She swallowed hard.
"Danni?" Steve called out to her in a questioning tone. Licking her lips nervously, she glanced towards Chin, thankful to see that he looked as disturbed as she felt before she focused her attention on Steve, staring at him for a moment before she spoke.
"We've found out proof Steve" She said quietly, turning her attention back to the inhabitants of the container and wondering how the case kept getting messier and messier with every passing moment.
