Official Disclaimer
The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steven 'Steve' McGarrett, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua, Victor Hesse, Anton Hesse, Former Detective John 'Johnny / Jack' McGarrett, Mary McGarrett, Kamekona Tupuola, Lieutenant Catherine 'Cath' Rollins, Frederick 'Fred' Doran, Detective Meka Hanamoa, Amy Hanamoa and Billy Hanamoa do not belong to me in any shape or form. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.
The character of Detective Sergeant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on male Danny, she soon evolved becoming her own person. She has her own background, her own family, her own history and her own distinct personality. This isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at times. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship with his ex.
The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to the change in Danni. Her surname is Taylor as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni reverted back to her maiden name when she was divorced). Her parents also are amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she's still the sweetheart we know and love, if anything she's more a sweetheart now.
The character of Duncan Taylor, Detective Rory Clements, Supervisory Special Agent in charge Ryan Moore, Special Agent Kale Meade, Special Agent Alexis Moss, Hazel Lewis, Jeanine Landon, William 'Will' McGarrett, Noah Landon, Anna Michaels nee Landon, Theresa Law nee Landon, Deborah 'Debs' Landon and Michael Landon also belong to me as does any other character who you do not recognise from the show. Please do not use them, or my version of Danni and Grace without first asking for my permission to do so.
Thank you.

Official Summary
When Danni Williams moves to Hawaii, all she wants to do is keep her head down and survive the time she had to stay there. The last thing she expected was to meet Steve McGarrett, a man who seems more intent on getting her blown up and finding out everything about her life than he is about following proper procedure. Danni has a job to do though and one way or another she is going to do it.
Chapter Summary
"As far as I can see Detective Williams your arm is going to be fine, the cut looks a lot worse than it is, probably because of the blood which was on your arm. Your partner did a good job at cleaning it and bandaging it up for you so you shouldn't need stitches for it this time round. Obviously, it does go without saying that if the arm swells up or you experience either extreme pain or numbness while using it then you should either consult with your own Doctor as soon as possible or head down to the ER, I'm pretty positive though that you won't need to though."

"That is always good to hear" Danni said to the EMT with a smile as the other woman finished giving the cut another through cleaning before she set about re-bandaging the arm. "So, unless my arm suddenly balloons, becomes unusable or falls off then I can pretty much ignore it and get on with things?"
"That is pretty much the gist of it" The EMT replied with a small smile of her own.
"I'm sorry that I wasted your time then when you've got a lot more people to see who need your aid more than I did" She said, nodding her head to some of the illegal immigrants who were still sitting in the shaded spot Chin and Kono had initially led them to. "I knew it was nothing more than a deep scratch but my partner was insistent that we weren't leaving the scene until an EMT had checked it out." The woman laughed at her clear exasperation.
"Well, it does show that he clearly cares about your wellbeing." She pointed out as she continued her task. "Have the two of you been partners for long?"
"Give or take a day now" Danni responded, ignoring the startled look she got in return. "Are we finished here now?" She questioned, changing the subject and smiling when the EMT nodded at her, still wearing the same surprising expression. "That is great, thank you…" her voice trailed off as she gave the woman a questioning look.
"Hazel, Hazel Lewis" The woman replied.
"Well thank you for your help Hazel, I really appreciate it" Danni said as she climbed out of the ambulance, twisting round and reaching back in so she could grab her bad from where it rested on the floor.
"You're welcome Detective Williams" Hazel responded with a nod at her.
"Call me Danni, I have a feeling that this is not going to be the last time I end up in the back of an ambulance being fixed up due to an injury." She commented with a wave at the other woman before she looked around her searchingly, a slight smile coming to her face when her gaze landed on Steve who was standing with Chin obviously giving the older man instructions. She moved through the crowd coming to a stop beside them. "Hiya, sorry to interrupt you both but I'm going to head back to headquarters now." She stated, shouldering her bag and wincing slightly as the movement caused her injury to twinge in pain.
"How is the arm? Did the EMT say you were good to go?" Steve asked, crossing his arms over his chest as he gave her a critical look, his eyes flickering down to the new bandage on her arm before they came back up to meet her eyes with a look which was half thoughtful, half challenging.
"The EMT said exactly what I thought she might say. It's a simply cut Steve that's all, my arm isn't going to become infected and fall off or anything like that." She teased him before she turned serious again. "Do you want to come back to the office in my car or are you going to grab a lift with Chin and Sang Min instead?" She asked him. Steve glanced towards the car which Sang Min was still seated in before looking back at her with a shake of his head.
"I'll grab a ride back with you Danni" He told her before he turned to look at the Chin who was watching the pair of them silently with a faint smile on his face which morphed into a questioning look when Steve began speaking again. "Chin, head in now to the headquarters with Sang Min, Danni and I will be in the car behind you, just in case he had anything up his sleeves. You've got your car with you right?"
"I don't but I'll use a squad car for the transport" Chin answered, nodding towards one of the empty cars. "Where do you want me to put him once I get there?" He queried.
"Interrogation room four" Steve replied without hesitation, his eyes flickering over to Danni who nodded at him in response to the silent question in his gaze. "Stay with him and keep an eye on him the whole time. I don't trust him as far as I can throw him."
"I won't let him out of my sight" Chin told Steve before he frowned slightly, looking away from them and scanning the crowd of people surrounding them. "What about Kono?" He asked as he turned back to them. "Is she coming back with us now? Because I'd prefer her not to be in the same car as me and Sang Min. The less he knows about her, the better it will be for her."
"That won't be a problem because she's not coming back to headquarters with us yet" Steve told him. "I want one of us to stay here and oversee the operation, especially if Captain Hookano is trying to take over the investigation from us. I need Danni back at headquarters digging up any intel on Sang Min. I've already spoken to Kono while Danni was being looked at and she knows exactly what she has to do. Once things are wrapped up here then she'll grab a lift back and join us at headquarters."
"Okay then, I'll see you both back there then" Chin said with a nod at them both before he turned and headed to the car. Danni watched him for a moment, making sure that he was okay and would have no issue securing a secondary car to transport Sang Min in before she turned and headed back to where her own car was parked, aware of Steve following closely behind her. She unlocked the car, looking back over her shoulder in time to see Chin and a uniformed officer moving Sang Min out of the busted car and towards a squad car before she pulled open her own door and climbed in, pulling her seatbelt on and starting the car up, pulling away from the scene.
They drove in silence for a few minutes before Danni suddenly spoke, a thoughtful note to her voice.
"When are you planning on approaching Kono about joining the taskforce then?" She asked him curiously, looking towards him from the corner of her eyes in time to see him shift in his own seat so he could look at her.
"Why? Do you think that I should approach her and offer her a position on the team?" He countered, his voice equally as thoughtful as her own had been.
"Are you looking for my honest opinion?" She asked, waiting until he nodded at her before continuing. "I thought that Kono was a natural, she kept her head in a dangerous situation and she coped well with it. The fact that she has a mean right hook and can defend herself is merely an added bonus." She said casually, an undercurrent of amusement coming to her voice.
"That's what I thought as well" Steve said in satisfaction. "I'll speak to Chin when this case is over with and see whether he is happy to have Kono with us. If he is then I'll speak to her and see whether she's interested in the place, if she is then the job is hers."
"That sounds like a plan to me" Danni agreed, reaching forward and switching the radio on.
They drove the rest of the way in a surprisingly comfortable silence, following the squad car which Chin had taken before pulling into their car park and the spot which Danni had already decided would be her own personal parking space. Danni climbed out, watching as Chin got out of the car and moved to the back, opening the door and pulling Sang Min, none to gently from within and marched him towards the main entrance. Locking her car behind her, Danni glanced towards the squad car as it drove away before following her partner into the building and towards the elevator, absently flashing her badge towards the two security guards manning the front desk. She watched as Chin entered one of the elevators with the prisoner before stepping up and waiting a couple of seconds before hitting the call button herself.
A moment later the doors to the second elevator slid open and she and Steve stepped in. She watched as Steve pressed the button to the third floor and waited for him to speak but he remained silent, thoughtfully staring at the door though Danni doubted he was seeing it. She wondered briefly what he was thinking about but pushed the thought from her mind. If he wanted to share then he would, if he didn't then he was entitled to his own thoughts.
As soon as they stepped through the doors to their headquarters he spoke though.
"Danni, I need you to get me all the information you can gather on Sang Min's wife and child. I want to know exactly where they are going to be for the next two hours" He commanded, Danni turned to him before she answered him.
"That shouldn't be a problem" She stated as she glanced towards her office with a slight frown. "It looks like my computer still hasn't been delivered so can I use yours?" She asked, waiting only for him to nod at her before she headed back out of her office, past where he was standing and into his office, skirting round the large desk and lowering herself into the chair behind it. She quickly powered the computer on, waiting for a second before she logged onto the HPD network.
As soon as it was up and running, she typed in Sang Min's name and began scanning the records which popped up, looking for any information on his family. After a moment she looked up at Steve, faintly surprised to see him lingering in the doorway, watching her work with a thoughtful look on his face.
"I think it would be best it you did this particular interrogation with Chin" She told him, ignoring the way his eyebrow rose at the comment.
"Why do you think that?" He asked as he moved further into the room and took the spare seat opposite her, Danni shrugged as she met his gaze.
"The honest answer is that I've got a lot of work which I need to get through for us. We've still got the whole Doran side of things to wrap up for example. He's currently waiting in a holding cell and while I might think that its actually the best place for him, he can't actually stay in our holding cell forever which means I need to get all the reports for him written up and passed to Amelia Webster as soon as I can."
"Who is Amelia Webster?" Steve queried with a frown.
"She is the head of the DA on the island" Danni answered him, turning her eyes back to the computer screen. "I have no doubt that you'll meet her soon enough because she is pretty hands on with things. On top of that side of things we now have the Sang Min portion to deal with. The report of operations needs to be written and signed off by the Governor which means I'm going to have to put my creative thinking hat on and come up with a reasonable explanation about why one of HPDs expensive surveillance van is now a wreck at a crime scene. Then I have to deal with the men we've arrested writing reports on them because otherwise HPD won't touch them with a barge pole and we still need to interview his two Hench men who you wanted to talk to and then…"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa" Steve interrupted holding up his hands defensively. "I understand Danni, you have a large amount of work coming out of your ears, all of which is important. You've made your point and I concur with your suggestion. I'll interrogate Sang Min with Chin while you stay up here and start doing the work which you need to get done. Have Kono sit with you once she returns from the scene, she's probably a fast learner and she can help you, at least with the HPD reports side" He stated. "Have you got that info about his wife and kid I wanted?"
"I'm just bringing it up now" she told him as she continued to type on the keyboard with a slight frown. "Besides the sooner we get these reports done, the sooner they'll be gone. It makes sense for me to do them because I have the most up to date experience on what needs to be included for it to be signed off" She remarked absently, using the mouse to select a secondary screen.
"You'll have to run through the forms with Chin then and bring him back up to date on it all." Steve remarked, leaning back slightly in his chair.
"And with you as well Steve" Danni added with a smile. "Just because you're the head of the taskforce it doesn't mean that you get to escape the joy that is writing up countless reports if anything you'll have more to do" She told him before changing the subject, her voice becoming focused again. "Right I've got their current whereabouts. The wife is scheduled to have manicure and pedicure at Diamond Nails on Kalakaua Avenue and the son is at Diamond Head. He goes to private school there so he'll be in class now. The wife's appointment is booked for twelve but I went there one time with Amy a few months back and it took an hour to get it all done and that didn't include waiting time, appointment or not, they are still always late. She will definitely still be there while you interrogate Sang Min."
"Good work Danni, Chin and I can use that information as leverage" Steve remarked as he pushed himself to his feet.
"You know if that doesn't work and you're not getting anywhere, then it says here in the records that his wife is originally from Rwanda. With Sang Min in jail, immigration will have every right to detain both her and the son and remove them back to Rwanda. He appears to be a family man so that might be an angle you can play if there is no other option." She commented reluctantly.
"It might be" Steve agreed, shooting her a quick look. "I'll see you soon, if you find out any more information then come down to the interrogation room and let me know even if I happen to be interviewing at the time."
"Will do Steve and good luck with him down there." She commented, looking away from the screen and watching as he turned and left the office, his back straight and his walk purposeful making it clear that he was entering into a zone again.
She had no doubt in her mind that Chin and Steve would break Sang Min, god knows she had given them enough ammunition to use against the man. It was more what would happen after Steve found out where Hesse was holed up which concerned her. Hesse was a dangerous man but so was Steve and Danni didn't know whether her new partner could win a fight with Hesse, not if his emotions were involved and were clouding his judgement.
Then there was the fact that Hesse wouldn't be alone, not doubt he would still have Etienne with him and possibly some hired muscle which Sang Min might have provided him with for an additional fee. Hesse would have known that Steve was on the island looking for him and he would have taken the necessary precautions to make sure that he remained safe. It would be up to Danni to take Etienne and any other guards out of the equation so that Steve could have the shot he needed to take Hesse down.
Danni breathed out slowly, bringing her head back down and focused her attention on the scene, she brought up the new email account she had been given and selected the one email she had in there which was from Ryan, breathing out she opened it, reading the email quickly before she opened the attachment, revealing the extensive forensic report in relation to the Doran case. Danni read it, writing little notes on the pad of paper which Steve had on his desk, trying to figure out how to add it into her report when a voice spoke, distracting her from her task.
"Hey, where are the other two? I couldn't see them outside. To be honest I was beginning to wonder whether I was on the wrong floor or something."
Danni smiled when she saw Kono leaning against the door frame, still wearing Caitlin's old dress which was looking as though it had seen better days.
"Hey Kono" Danni answered "Steve and Chin are both down in the interrogation room working on Sang Min. They've been down there for about" Danni paused for a moment, looking down at her watch, before continuing again. "Forty minutes so I doubt that they will be down there much longer."
Kono raised an eyebrow in surprise before she moved into the room and took the same seat which Steve had been sitting in earlier.
"So why are you up here in the office while Steve is down in the interrogation room?" The younger woman asked curiously. "I mean you and him are partners, right?" She questioned. Danni nodded.
"We are" She confirmed "Which is why I'm up here doing what I do best while he is down there with Chin doing what he does best. I mean no offence to Steve but he doesn't come across as someone who particularly cares about completing paperwork and unfortunately, as you'll soon find out, half of what we do here is paperwork. Somehow we're already behind on it even though we've only been active as a taskforce for a day which must be some sort of new record" Danni remarked with a wry smile as she reached up and rubbed at the back of her neck.
"Its hard to believe that you've only been a team for a day, you seem like a unit already." Kono said, glancing down at her nails with a slight frown,
"Maybe" Danni said with a shrug "We're three individuals all with something to prove I guess. Point us at a goal and we'll get there but as for us being a unit. Maybe, the real test will be once this case is over."
"Its going to be interesting" Kono said. "Chin said last night that you're going to get to pick your own cases which means you can pick the best ones."
"I hope so, we haven't had the time to actually seat down and discuss how things are going to work here, things as you know have been pretty full on already." Danni admitted. "Steve does want to talk to you later so you should definitely hang around here until he does."
"He does?" Kono said hopefully, a grin coming to her face when Danni nodded.
"That's what he told me earlier" She replied.
"That is really…"
"Danni we've got him, we've got to go now" Steve said sharply as he appeared in the doorway, cutting across Kono's sentence before he turned and was gone again.
"Kono I'm sorry I…" She began to say as she jumped to her feet, pausing only to grab her bag from the floor.
"No go, I understand completely" Kono said as she jumped to her seat. "I'll go and get changed quickly then find Chin and give him a hand with whatever it is he's doing."
"Thank you" Danni said as she moved around the desk pausing only for a second to rest her hand briefly on Kono's slim shoulder before she was gone, her focus firmly on her partner. She found Steve by the elevator, pacing outside of it like a caged animal. He spared her a quick glance as she came to his side before his attention moved back to the elevator again.
"I'm driving" He stated, the tone of his voice making it clear that he wasn't asking her permission to drive, rather he was telling her that he was going to drive and that was that.
"Okay" Danni said soothingly. "I'll grab the keys to one of the police cars downstairs. I know HPD keep some spare ones here for some reason. We can take that with us."
"Why can't we take your car?" Steve demanded
"Because not only do I not want it damaged in anyway due to it being borrowed but I also need to pick Grace up from her school later on this afternoon and if I turn up in a smashed-up car than my seven-year-old daughter will freak out thinking something has happened and I'm not willing to put her through something like that even for a split second. A police car will get us to the location fine" She pointed out.
"Fine" Steve said with a frustrated sigh as they stepped out of the elevator. "Get the key and I'll meet you outside" He told her.
Danni nodded, watching him go for a second before she went to the guards, grabbing one of the keys and signing the paper which the man passed to her. A second later she was moving out of the building towards the small area where the police cars were stored. She whistled at Steve, who was pacing by them, attracting his attention and threw the keys at him, unsurprised when he caught them easily. Steve glanced down at them, studying them for a split second before he spoke.
"Its this one" He stated, moving towards one of them. Danni nodded, hurrying to the passenger side and climbed in. She pulled her seatbelt on before taking her two guns out of her bag, checking them and making sure they were ready. A glance at Steve showed him starting the car with a glint in his eyes which had Danni checking her guns for a second time just in case and saying a small prayer.
"What did you learn from Sang Min?" Danni asked, reaching out and gripping the door handle tightly as Steve tore out of the car park, taking a sharp right as though the hound of hell were right behind them giving chase.
"We were right" Steve told her. "Hesse contacted Sang Min two weeks ago asking for help to get onto the island undetected. He paid him with favours like you thought. He's put Hesse and Etienne on a cargo ship which is due to leave shortly for China. If that boat leaves the dock Danni then we would have lost him. Who knows how long it would take for him to resurface again. I can't wait that long. I need to get him now." He stated, his hands tightening on the steering wheel as he put his foot down on the pedal. Danni swallowed hard, gripping her chair tightly before she spoke, keeping her voice soft.
"We'll get him Steve, we've got the advantage here. Hesse has no way of knowing that we're coming for him." She assured him. "Are Chin and Kono following us in another car?" She asked, her heart sinking when Steve shook his head, his eyes fixed on the road in front of them.
"Chin is dealing with Sang Min, when he's finished with him then he'll collect Kono from the office and follow us, he's got the direction and he knows where he's going."
"So, what you're telling me is that it is just you and me heading towards Hesse now?" She asked.
"I can't wait for back up to gather itself and follow us Danni" He snapped at her. "If I wait for them then the boat will be gone and Hesse with it. It's as simple as that. We can deal with everything that is thrown at us, as you say we've got the advantage because he doesn't know that we're coming for him" He said.
Danni gritted her teeth as Steve took another sharp left flinging Danni into the passenger door.
"You know, you're not presenting a good case for me to allow you to drive my car." She told him, trying to lighten the tension in the car. For a moment she thought it had failed but then she caught sigh of the small, barely there, smile which made its way to Steve's face.
"Really?" He countered. "Because this should be showing you that I can handle a car at top speed without any difficulty."
Danni snorted at him, making a show of rubbing her side.
"Try telling that to the bruised shoulder I'm now sporting" She complained. She glanced at him in surprise when his cell phone went off. She watched as he cursed under his breathe, fishing the device from one of his pockets, his gaze flickering between the road and the screen.
"It's Governor Jameson" Steve told her before he pressed down on the connect button and brought the phone to his ear. "Yes Governor" He stated, listening to her speak. Whatever the older woman was telling him was clearly pissing him off if the way his jaw suddenly clenched was anything to go by. "Look Governor, Sang Min confessed to putting Hesse and his accomplice on a cargo ship which is heading to China, a ship called the Emma Karl I'm not…" He fell silence again, listening before he spoke, a sharpness to his tone which had previously been missing. "You promised me immunity and means" He stated stopping abruptly before continuing. "I can tell you now that if China is caught smuggling a terrorist who is wanted by most of the free world then they won't say a word about how I choose to apprehend him. I did my job Governor now toy hold up your side of the bargain and do yours. Tell the coast guard to block off the port because I can promise you now that, that ship if going nowhere." He told her before he hung up on her.
There was a silence before Danni cleared her throat and spoke quietly.
"Is she going to close the port for you?" She asked him, breathing out a silent sigh of relief when Steve nodded at her.
"She's doing it, now its up to us to do the rest." He told her, turning his head towards her and meeting her eyes. Danni kept his gaze as she slowly nodded her head.
"Okay then" She commented, turning away and looking out the window screen instead. "Let's go and get your man then."
