The Beginning

Official Disclaimer
The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steven 'Steve' McGarrett, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua, Victor Hesse, Anton Hesse, Former Detective John 'Johnny / Jack' McGarrett, Mary McGarrett, Kamekona Tupuola, Lieutenant Catherine 'Cath' Rollins, Frederick 'Fred' Doran, Detective Meka Hanamoa, Amy Hanamoa and Billy Hanamoa do not belong to me in any shape or form. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.
The character of Detective Sergeant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on male Danny, she soon evolved becoming her own person. She has her own background, her own family, her own history and her own distinct personality. This isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at times. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship with his ex.
The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to the change in Danni. Her surname is Taylor as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni reverted back to her maiden name when she was divorced). Her parents also are amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she's still the sweetheart we know and love, if anything she's more a sweetheart now.
The character of Duncan Taylor, Detective Rory Clements, Supervisory Special Agent in charge Ryan Moore, Special Agent Kale Meade, Special Agent Alexis Moss, Hazel Lewis, Quinn Lewis, Jeanine Landon, William 'Will' McGarrett, Noah Landon, Anna Michaels nee Landon, Theresa Law nee Landon, Deborah 'Debs' Landon and Michael Landon also belong to me as does any other character who you do not recognise from the show. Please do not use them, or my version of Danni and Grace without first asking for my permission to do so.
Thank you.
Author Note
And here we are at the last chapter and the end of 'The Beginning'
When I first started this story, I didn't expect anything really. I thought if I was lucky then I might make double figure when it came to the reviews but that was it. I never expected so many reviews or people willing to give the story and the changes I made to it a chance.
Words can not describe how important the story of female Danni has become to me or what it means to me. When I started this story, it was meant to be a one-off chapter story but within the first few chapters I had fallen in love with the character of Danni. I stopped referring to her in my mind as the female version of Danny Williams and instead began to tell her story. Instead of thinking what would male Danny do in this situation I began to think 'What would Danni do' and the result is the story you just read.
I don't feel that Danni's story is finished yet. There's still so much to explore just not about her but about the other characters as well so I made the decision fairly early on that I would continue working on this saga until I could no longer continue.
These stories will be a mixture of episodes and my own untold case stories.
The next story is called Family and is based on the second episode of season one 'Ohana' so please go and give it a read.
There is nothing more for me to say except a massive thank you to everyone who has reviewed, followed or made this a favourite and come on this journey with me.
I hope you've enjoyed the beginning and that I see you all again in 'Family'
Official Summary
When Danni Williams moves to Hawaii, all she wants to do is keep her head down and survive the time she had to stay there. The last thing she expected was to meet Steve McGarrett, a man who seems more intent on getting her blown up and finding out everything about her life than he is about following proper procedure. Danni has a job to do though and one way or another she is going to do it.
Chapter Summary
Danni entered their headquarters and looked around her at all the boxes which had been delivered when while the had been out. Boxes which she knew would need to be gone through, unpacked and a list made up on what they contained and how much of it had been received. She didn't even have any idea what were in the boxes, all she knew was that she hadn't been the one to order them which meant that her partner must of. Even with as little about him as she knew, she knew that there could be literally anything in there, one box may be filled with stationary while the one next to it could have rocket launchers.

Another note
I do not have a Beta so please forgive any mistakes which may creep in, I always do my best to edit the story and check it but sometimes mistakes do creep in.
The places I've mentioned in Hawaii are ones which come from google, including the addresses. I've never been to Hawaii myself in person so I apologise for any mistakes which I may make, these are not intentional.

She shook her head at them and moved past them and into her office, placing her bag on the desk and reached up, rubbing tiredly at her eyes. She felt exhausted and it had only just gone two in the afternoon. The crime scene at the dock had taken a lot longer to complete than she had anticipated. Every time she had tried to leave someone would come up to her with one more form which had to be signed or one more question to be asked and as she was the lead Detective on scene they had naturally come to her. Between that and fielding calls from the crime scene from that morning she had been close to pulling out her hair from frustration. Only the fact that she had Chin and Kono with her, helping her out at every turn and stopped her from doing something quite so drastic.
The fact that she was worried about Steve wasn't helping her concentration levels either. He had been gone nearly two hours at the hospital and she still hadn't received a call from him. She knew that if it was in fact broken rib rather than cracked ribs than Steve was going to be in for some pain and would need rest to allow them to heal though she doubted that the word rest was in her new partner's vocabulary.
"What's with all the boxes? These weren't here when we left earlier right?" Kono asked, stepping into Danni's office with a confused look on her face.
"That is a very good question" Danni remarked "And the truth is I have no idea, I'm guessing that this is all the equipment that Steve and the Governor's assistant Brandon ordered for us so I vote that we leave it to Steve to go through because that" She remarked, waving her hand towards the boxes "Is something that I don't even want to start thinking about dealing with on a Friday afternoon."
"I agree with that plan, they feel very much like a Monday problem to me" Chin said as he walked passed his office and headed towards the other free ones, looking at them carefully as he did a slow circle on the spot before he pointed at the one which was closest to the door. "This is the office which I've taken as my own" He announced to them before he moved into it. Danni watched with a growing smile as Kono swung round on the spot.
"No fair Cuz, we never said that we were picking offices yet" The younger woman complained before she sighed and headed into the main bullpen "In that case I'm going to take the one opposite it" She announced.
Danni shook her head before she looked around her own office, wrinkling her nose at just how bare it was. A fact she knew she would have to change if she was going to feel comfortable in there. A few pictures of Grace and her family back home would liven the desk up and she there was other little touches she could make. Fresh flowers were always nice when they were alive. She could bring a vase in and put the flowers in the window to add some colour and scent the air with them, a smell which she always found relaxing.
"You look deep in thought."
Danni glanced up, a smile coming to her face as her eyes landed on Steve. He had stitches in the cut above his eyebrow and his arm was up in a sling. He looked bruised, battered, alive and strangely at peace as though a large burden which he had been carrying had been lifted from his shoulders.
"Hey" She replied. "So, they let you out of the hospital then? That's good though you look… well… you look awful" She confessed, smiling when he rolled his eyes at her.
"Thanks for that" He said moving into her office and stopping in front of her desk glancing around as he did. "I spoke to the IT department earlier; your computer is due to be delivered later on today so it will be up and running for you to use on Monday" He told her.
"That is good to hear" Danni said "It will make my life a lot easier if I can work in here to get the reports done rather than having to steal your office to do it. That would have got really old, really fast for us both."
"I'm also making arrangements for you to be given a laptop so you can work in the afternoons once you've picked Grace up from school or if she had to be off due to being sick or something, I know you wouldn't want to leave her if that happened." He commented awkwardly.
"That would be something I would really appreciate" she commented, biting down on her lip as she scanned his face again. "So, what did the Doctor at the hospital say to you Steve? Were your ribs broken?"
"No, just bruised, a few days of taking it easy and I'll be back to normal." He answered her. Danni raised her eyebrow at him.
"Do you know how to take it easy?" She asked him curiously, the questioning causing him to smile as he looked around him again. "Are you okay?" She queried in confusion. "Have you lost something in here because you keep looking around you like you have."
"No, I haven't" Steve said, looking back at her as he pulled out a white envelope from his back pocket and placed it on her desk in front of her before he began backing away towards the door.
"Hold it right there" She ordered as she picked up the envelope and looked at it curiously, tilting it in hr hand. "What is this exactly?" She asked.
"It's three nights at the Kahala hotel" Steve told her. "One of the best rooms in the place, I heard there's a pool there and everything, you could take Grace this weekend or the next one, the tickets are valid for at least two months."
Danni stared down at the envelope before she raised her eyes to him.
"Steve…" She began to say stopping when he interrupted her.
"Look you said yesterday in the car that Grace was desperate to swim with Dolphins and at this hotel you can swim with the Dolphins. Its included in the package which I got you. Just don't say no, take her this weekend of something and have a good time, you've earned it."
Danni remained silent for a moment. She knew in her head that this was no cheap gift, it was an expensive one and it made no sense for Steve to buy it for her.
"I… why have you done this?" She asked him in confusion. Steve used his good shoulder to shrug at her.
"I feel bad about how this partnership started and I wanted to do something to make it up to you. I think you'd enjoy it as well."
"Okay" Danni said softly, slipping the envelope into her bag. "Thank you. Gracie will love the gift" Steve nodded at her returned her smile with a relieved one.
"I picked up some drinks on my way home from the hospital. Thought we could have one as a toast and don't worry I got you a coke because of you picking your daughter up. Have you got the time?" He asked.
Danni glanced down at her watch before looking back up and nodding.
"I think there's enough time for it if we do it now" She told him as she picked up her back and followed him out of the room towards the main area. He called Chin and Kono over and nodded his head towards the bottles on the table as he produced a bottle opener from his pocket.
"Someone else will have to get these open" He commented. Danni rolled her eyes as she reached across and plucked it from his hand and opened the three beers, handing them out to the others before she opened her own coke. She moved passed Steve, slipping the bottle opener back into his pocket before she lowered herself onto the nearest chair. "So, to us" Steve said raising his bottle and nodding at them. "The Governor's Taskforce. All four of us" He said, looking towards Kono with a questioning look.
"All four of us" She replied with a wide grin.
"To the four of us" Danni repeated, leaning forward so she could clink her bottle against the others.
"May we long keep out of hospital" Chin added, grinning when Steve glared at him.
"Not being funny though by we need a better name to call ourselves by than just the Governor's Taskforce. I mean talk about impersonal. It needs to be a name that will reflect the four of us, right?" Kono announced after taking a long swig of her drink.
"What sort of name?" Danni asked as she took a sip of her own drink.
"I know" Chin said standing up straighter as he looked at them all. "A'ohe hana niu ka alu'ai"
"Okay come on, what does that mean?" Danni asked looking automatically towards Steve for a translation.
"It means Danni" Chin answered for her. "No task is too big when done together."
"Okay now the sentiment I can get behind happily" Danni said, using her bottle to point at Chin. "But I'm a mainlander who was raised mainly in New Jersey. How am I meant to announce myself at a crime scene if I can't even pronounce the name of the team I'm on?" She complained, mock glaring at them when they laughed at her remark. "No, the rule of naming is that it has to be something we can all pronounce easily which means something which is in English. No Hawaiian allowed unless it is extremely simply to pronounce" She said, throwing the lid of her bottle at Chin when he laughed again at her. He dodged it, holding his hands up in defence.
"Okay, okay, I can see where you're coming from Danni, I'll have another think about it" He promised.
"I got one" Kono said excitedly.
"This ought to be good" Chin muttered, ignoring the glare that Kono gave him.
"We should call ourselves Strike Force" She stated, looking around them eagerly for their reactions. Danni raised an eyebrow, looking towards Steve who looked at her with a little shake of his head before he turned back to Kono.
"That is terrible" He announced. "I'm not having my team called Strike Force."
Danni shook her head, unable to hide her smile at the disappointed look which came to Kono's face. She glanced down at her watch and stood up, draining the rest of her drink.
"Right on that note I need to go and pick up my monkey from school. You guys keep thinking of a name for us but don't choose it without me, as second in command I feel like I should get a say in this vote." She remarked as she picked up her back, giving each of them a smile before she turned and headed towards the doorway.
"See you on Monday Danni" They called after her causing her smile to widen as she left the office.
Maybe, just maybe the four of them would work.
She supposed that only time would tell.
