"What do we do first, Doc?" Bill asked, trying out a new nickname for the Doctor. "Don't call me that," the Doctor said immediately. "I'm not the leader of eight dwarves." "There are only seven dwarves, Doctor," Rachel pointed out. "Oh, who cares about Earth fairy tales? Gallifreyan ones are much better." The Doctor argued, trying to cover up his mistake. "I think the first thing we should do is find Element Alpha so we can get Nina, Hicks, and Gary back," Rachel suggested. "That sounds like an excellent plan! Let's work on that, shall we?" Clara told Rachel before the Doctor could answer. She pushed him out of the way of the computer and set about finding things related to Element Alpha. "What do we do while she searches for Element Alpha?" Dr. Rosen asked. "Why don't you tell us a Gallifreyan fairy tale, Doctor?" Rachel joked. The Doctor was not amused. "You probably wouldn't be mature enough to thoroughly enjoy it." Clara snorted from her place at the computer. The Doctor turned around to face her. Clara continued to work at the computer. "Why did you laugh?" Clara shook her head. "Just, the idea of you being mature!" Bill chuckled at the Doctor's reaction to this. He was obviously playing around now. The Doctor put a hand to his chest. "I can be mature! I only choose not to. Do you have any idea of how boring it is to be mature?" "I would absolutely LOVE to see you be try to be mature," teased Clara. Before the Doctor could think of a clever retort, alarms started sounding. "What is that?!" Rachel cried, covering her super-sensitive ears with her hands. "The missile alarm!" The Doctor shouted over the clamor. "Clara, did you do something?" "No! I was just looking through files about Element Alpha!" Clara shouted back. "It's the missile alarm again!" The Doctor ran over to one of the windows that lined the white walls of the medical room. A big ball of fire was heading towards the ship. "Brace yourselves!" Clara grabbed the countertop, as did Rachel and Dr. Rosen. Bill wedged himself into the space between the wall and the edge of the counter. "Doctor! Come on!" Clara cried. The Doctor ran to the counter where everyone was situated just as a huge explosion rocked the ship. Clara and the Doctor flew across the room. The Doctor hit the wall first, then Clara landed against him. Rachel and Dr. Rosen were also thrown away from the counter. Only Bill was able to stay in the same place, but only because he was stuck. The dead Cyberman rolled noisily across the floor before it came to rest against an unoccupied hospital bed. Bill popped himself out of the small space and ran over to help Dr. Rosen and Rachel. Clara groaned. She had hit the Doctor pretty hard. The Doctor! Clara flipped herself over and found herself face to face with the Doctor. He had a large gash across his cheek. Clara gently traced it with her finger. The Doctor winced and opened his eyes. "Hello," he said, grimacing. He has hit the wall very hard, and having Clara thrown against him didn't help. "Hi," Clara managed a weak smile. The sonic screwdriver in the Doctor's pocket had been jammed into her shoulder. "Are you all right?" "Oh, I'll manage. I always do. Are you?" The Doctor asked, getting to his feet and helping Clara do the same. "I think so. Just some bumps and bruises," answered Clara as she felt herself for any broken bones. "Good," the Doctor grabbed her head and kissed it. "Everyone okay? Yes? Good! How about our unconscious folks? Are they all right?" The Doctor took stock of the people in the room. Dr. Rosen stiffly walked to the three hospital beds. They hadn't moved an inch. He checked their vitals. "They're fine. In fact, they haven't moved at all!" "Probably a stasis field around that section of the hospital. So the patients won't get jostled." The Doctor explained. "Hmm. I guess that would have been a better place to run to during that missile hit," "Oh, really?" Bill said sarcastically. "Yeah," the Doctor replied, missing out on sarcasm once again. "Now, I think I've determined what Element Alpha is. Or rather, how it was released into their systems. Those... Flashy lighty things that you stole from that workroom out there? I still have them, actually... Hang on..." The Doctor fished around in one of his jacket pockets, his arm going in up to his elbow. "Aha!" He pulled out the three photic stimulators that Rachel had taken. "I have that Cyberman hand in here too, if you want that," The Doctor walked over to the hospital beds. He scanned all three boxes with his sonic screwdriver. "Okay, this one..." He muttered, tossing two of the boxes over his shoulder. Clara caught one, and Dr. Rosen caught the other. The Doctor changed the settings on his screwdriver and then sonicked the photic stimulator again. "Humans can only use a small portion of their brains, and this photic stimulator flashed light at just the right frequency so a certain kind of enzyme is created, causing the unique abilities you experience." Bill frowned. "But how is the photic stimulator Element Alpha? They're a recent invention, and people have had Alpha abilities for at least two hundred years." "The Ardives used different flashing lights. UFO sightings have been quite common on Earth, even in the 1800s. The Ardives were using a light year beam to flash and give people the abilities. Those were the 'aliens' that you people are so obsessed with," "That's not the alien I'm obsessed with!" Clara flirted. The Doctor shot her a smile. Looking away from Clara, the Doctor switched the photic stimulator on. Bright yellow light pulsed from its square bulb. The Doctor held it over Gary's face. His eyes twitched, and slowly opened. "Agh! What is that bright light? What is the light? Turn it off!" Gary squeezed his eyes shut. Rachel smiled happily, very relieved that everyone was getting woken up. The Doctor had moved on to Nina, who was slowly regaining consciousness. Dr. Rosen was trying to remove the tubes and needles from Gary without him freaking out when he touched him. The Alphas were getting back together! AN: Yay! Everything is going great! Or is it...?
