AN: Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was gone all day. "Agh, my arms are killing me. And my throat. And my head," moaned Nina. She was leaning against a wall, still in her hospital gown. Hicks was sitting in the edge of his bed, and Gary was standing a ways apart from the rest of the group. He was flitting around, looking at the electrical signals of the space ship. "Is anyone feeling faint? Woozy? Nauseous?" Dr. Rosen asked. Gary, Hicks, and Nina shook their heads. They were feeling very sore, especially on their upper arms where they had gotten all of the injections. "Obviously, you can still use your Alpha abilities," the Doctor gestured toward Gary. "But Gary was the most recent one to be taken. No, the second most recent. Are yours...less strong?" Nina shrugged and looked at Hicks, who copied her movement. "Let's find out," he said. Grabbing a stray hypodermic needle, he held it like a dart and let fly. It sailed through the air and it bounced off of the wall. Rachel's shoulders slumped, as she had been expecting a full recovery from Hicks. The needle wasn't done yet, it rolled off of the countertop it had landed on, and spun. It imbedded itself neatly into the hole in the Cyberman's chest that Bill had made. "Mine's good!" Hicks said proudly. Clara was very impressed. "Nina, how about yours?" Dr. Rosen asked. Nina peeled herself off of the wall. She paused, smirked, and walked towards Clara. Clara's eyes went wide as Nina whispered into her ear. Clara stiffly walked to the Doctor and whispered into his ear. The Doctor blushed furiously. "Clara! How could you say something that...that...intimate?!" Clara wasn't done. She grabbed the Doctor's suspenders and yanked him close to her. "Nina! That's quite enough!" Dr. Rosen barked. Nina quickly walked to Clara and commanded, "Stop what you're doing. Move back to where you were standing." Clara suddenly let the Doctor's suspenders go, and they snapped against his chest. He winced and rubbed where they hit him. Clara marched back to where she had been standing before Nina had pushed her. Everyone could visibly see Clara perk up, like she had been woken up after sleepwalking. "What? What are you staring at?" Clara demanded to know. A thought dawned on her. "Did Nina push me? She did! What did you make me do?" Nina glanced at the Doctor and smirked. "I'll let him tell you," Nina didn't know of Clara and the Doctor's shared moment after they were chasing Hector Dearborne. She thought they were still unaware of the other's feelings. "Erm." The Doctor cleared his throat, looking very uncomfortable. "She made you say...something too inappropriate to repeat, and then you grabbed my braces. I don't know what you were planning on doing after that, Nina made you stop." Clara looked horrified. "I'm so sorry! That's awful of me to do!" "It's all right! Under different circumstances, I may have enjoyed it!" The Doctor admitted. This time, it was Clara's turn to blush. "Yeah, that was more information than we wanted to know!" Bill said loudly. "Okay guys, you three get your clothes back on. We have to go save Kat, and cause a war. We'll fill you in on the way. "So this is a space ship..." Nina was having a hard time believing that they were in space, in the middle of an alien war, where she was supposed to be a soldier. "Wait 'til we find a window! Then you'll really be amazed!" Rachel told her. The group was walking briskly down the main hallway, searching for the door Hector Dearborne had taken Kat through. "Oh, here's that closet!" The Doctor said happily. "What closet?" Dr. Rosen asked. "Oh, um, we passed it before..." The Doctor lied. He glanced at Clara, who looked embarrassed. "Uh huh." Rachel said skeptically. They kept walking. Once they reached a window, they had a difficult time pulling Nina and Hicks away from it. (Gary was in his own little world of electronic signals.) "This is..." Hicks began. "...amazing!" Nina finished. They had their faces pressed against the 6-inch, double pane glass, heads touching. Hicks moved his hand slightly toward Nina's, and moved his pinkie so it was touching her hand. Nina glanced at it and grinned. "Okay, let's go! Lots of people to save, big war to fix!" The Doctor clapped his hands and spun around in a circle. "Yeah, guys, guys, we have to go save Kat!" Gary added. "Are you seeing anything interesting in there, Gary?" The Doctor asked, as they were continuing down the hall. "I don't know, Doctor, I don't know! It's not in English! But there are lots and lots and lots of diagrams," replied Gary. "Hm. The TARDIS translation matrix should've kicked in, you've been in it twice," said the Doctor. "Oh! Gah, how could I have not thought of that?!" The Doctor waited for Gary to ask what he hadn't thought of. Gary remained silent. "You would be able to see all of her transmissions and what was going on inside since she's telepathic! She blocked you from everything! I'll have to talk to her about that, sometimes the TARDIS translation matrix is very important. She shouldn't pick and choose which people she allows to understand alien languages." Everyone who was walking screeched to a halt as an ear-splitting scream pierced the air. Even Gary stopped what he was doing and looked up. "Kat," grunted Bill. He moved to the walls and searched them for something that resembled a door. The Doctor took out his sonic and scanned the walls as well. "Here!" He called. There were faint indents on the wall where a secret door was housed. He sonicked the door and it slid open. The group dashed in, ready to apprehend Hector Dearborne and save Kat. "What the-" said Hicks. They had entered a room with many different control boards that had many flashing buttons. Kat, shrieking, was being forcibly strapped onto an upright stretcher by humanoid alien. It was a strange shade of purple, almost maroon, and its arms and face were scaly, but its torso and all four legs were feathered. Hector Dearborne was standing near a control panel. He turned around when the Alphas entered the room. "We've been expecting you, Doctor," he snarled. The Doctor pointed to himself, then at Dr. Rosen, then back at himself, a quizzical expression on his face. "Yes, you!" Hector Dearborne said exasperatedly. The Doctor still didn't know which one of them he was talking about. Clara nudged his arm. "These are the Ardives, yeah?" She whispered. "Yes!" The Doctor said, addressing both Clara and Hector. "So! Can we have our friend back?" Hector snorted. "No! Why would we give her back? She has the most useful ability out of all of you!" "Because we asked nicely?" The Doctor offered. "Yeah, it was a long shot. But really, you have to know I'm not going to let you use Alphas to win this war for you." "No, WE aren't going to let you use Alphas to win the war!" Bill stepped forward. Nina, Hicks, and Rachel did too, as well as Dr. Rosen. He gently pulled Gary forward too. "So there! An army of eight against an entire Ardive fleet! Well, nine if you count Kat. I think we have the upper hand, don't you?" The Doctor said cheerfully. He jauntily strolled over to one of the control panels and glanced at the screen on it. "Preparing for the release of some rescue pods, are we? Maybe for some Alpha-Ardives? No, it's too soon for that. But wait... What's this?" The Doctor slid to the left and read a different screen. "Oh! You can't be serious. You're not..." "We are!" Hector smiled maliciously. "But the rivers! The trees! That isn't even how this war happens!" The Doctor protested. Clara tried to run over to where the Doctor was standing, but Hector produced a large ball of electricity and shot it towards her. She leapt back with a squeak. "What do you mean, that isn't how the war happens?" Hector asked suspiciously. "How would you know?" A look passed over the Doctor's face. From what Clara could tell it was a look of...triumph? "I just happen to be a time traveler! I could, maybe, help you out with this whole 'war' thing. IF you let Kat go. And stop converting Alphas into Ardives," the Doctor mentioned smoothly. "Whaddya say?" AN: Ooooh, we're meeting the Ardives! How exciting!
