(Emerald)

"F-f-FIRE!" Ravio blurted, slinking backward.

"I hate my job." Emerald heard Cloelius mutter. Then the wolf-man morphed shape again, back into a crystal-like chimeric wolf. The being jumped through the castle window, gliding through the winds and landing softly on the street before the fire. The starving fire crackled and sparked as it consumed the block that once contained high-end stores. Everything was transforming into ash to feed the heat. Emerald could see citizens fleeing and screaming, shop owners shouting in fury, and the building begin to collapse. The entire boulevard looked like it was in an apocalypse.

Cloelius sat before the furious blaze, and spread his wings. The winds began to shift and twist and funnel, as if they had decided to mingle and dance. The funnels kicked up the snow from the ground, causing it to cloud the area in white. The wolf-god moved his wings in certain directions, commanding the ice and snow and wind to land at the fire. Only, landing with extreme force. The stores are blasted with chilling winds cold enough to dowse the fire. The flames die and leave behind the bones of it's meal. The buildings were stripped down to bare metal and rock; everything wood and inflammable gone.

Cloelius simply stood and then flew back up, into the window of the castle. He acted as if it was nothing.

"That was amazing..." Emerald spoke up.

"When you're a minor deity, you have quite a bit of power," he explained, "but of course we are not above The Goddesses..."

Link nodded. "Well, it's taken care of, at least."

"Why was it even burning in the first place?" Ravio asked. Just leave it to Ravio to ask that.

Emerald could see Cloelius hesitating to answer, but he finally did. "The Scroll..."

"The Scroll?" She was positive she knew what the scroll was, but could it have caused the destruction of an entire boulevard?

"The Timber Wolf Scroll... It's new location was recently revealed, and it was rumored to have been moved into town. Therefore, people will stop at nothing to find it, and prove these rumors correct. Of course, they are after the Scroll's riches." Cloelius explained quite plainly. "It is the scroll you must find, and protect..."

"How do I protect it?"

"You keep it away from the others, greed sown deep in their hearts. You are the guardian, therefore you must hide it, keep it safe."

Emerald nodded in understanding, but quite reluctantly at the same time. She thought about how influential her status as the guardian could be. It could make her the most important and beloved person on the plant, people admiring her either deeply or shallowly and just for riches. That, or she could quickly become the bane of their existence, being targeted at every corner for the Scroll, stirring an angry wasp nest. Whatever path is lain for her, she has to follow it, even reluctantly. It's better than living in the woods.

A sudden crash rang out through the luxurious stone corridors, followed by shouts of anger and screams of agony.

"Aye, they are at it again..."

Emerald was puzzeled. "Who is 'they'?"

"Nyctillians, night loving creatures, not native to Hyrule..."

"You mean those lizard-things?" Ravio asked, underlying fear in his voice.

"Half reptile, half Hylian... They are Nocturnia's counterpart. They are allied themselves with Lorule in order to find the Scroll..."

Ravio's emerald eyes grew wide with realization, but he stayed silent. Emerald could easily tell that he was speechless, and she knew why. The things they had seen and dealt with were part of this. In fact, it may have been the very reason why they were placed in such danger. "S-so that... thing w-we were almost killed by is..."

Cloelius nodded. "Precisely that, in reptile form. They have a normal human side as well, just us and all Nocturnians; but they are very dangerous their reptile state... I am quite surprised you all lived to be here. Nyctillians are quite aggressive and avaricious by nature, and they most likely forced Lorule's hand into an alliance. Such a shame: A recovering kingdom forced to drain their resources... far what exactly? Most likely nothing. I fear that your kind may not live after this, Ravio. However, there is a glimmer of hope. It involves all of you, and another: The Sage..."

"One of the seven sages?" Link asked.

"No, our sage. The Sage of the Endless Hunt. Their role here is slightly different, but I can explain this later. Nocturnia's last sage had just passed very recently, but we've not had time to find this generation's sage, the next in line. This presents quite a problem, considering that finding this person is crucial to this... We must find them. However, I have to tend to this chaos before it spirals out of control." With that word, Cloelius vanished.

Emerald could hear the rioting outside the castle becoming more heated, the echoes of dying souls, hissing reptiles, the metal clang of weapons and the bone-chilling hiss of those reptiles. She approached a window and peered out to the city below, catching sight of bloody massacre and raging dragons. Wolves and men alike were being pushed back by dragon-like monsters that she recognized from earlier encounters, Nyctillians. The smokey-black lizards surged forward at the defenses, leaving nothing but painted bodies in their path.

Cloelius emerged in scene, charging to the front lines as a radiant blue Wing Fang. The opposing side attempted to stop him, but everything was in vain as weapons and claws passed straight through his body as if he was a spirit, non-living. The wolf reached the center of the chaos and stood there, wings spread to his sides. Energy flooded from his paws to the ground, flowing to the enemy's side like electrical serpents. Each step forward by the monsters brought them to ground, un-moving.

All the creatures were turned on their sides and fell to ground as the energy flooded their bodies; the battle ending. The struggling civilians cheered and called out various thank yous and words of prayer and worship to the canine god, who acknowledged them by clearing the battle scene and wreckage, and then returned to the castle find the trio standing there; expressions of shock and relief fused with underlying concern.

"Time continues to run short. The Endless Hunt and Goddesses with not be pleased with this... The riots and waves continue to become more dangerous."

Emerald nodded. "How do we find the Sage of the Endless Hunt?"

"That will be quite tricky, simply because he or she is chosen by the current sage in advance. However, with this ordeal, it never happened. They will have to be identified by their power and spiritual connections. The sage is a Wing Fang, so this can narrow our search. There is only a few Wing Fangs of the proper age, including Emerald, but I know that it is not her. They told me in advance she was not the sage."

Ravio cocked his head in curiosity. " So, how hard can this be?"

Cloelius hesitated to answer, but finally conjured an explanation. "It will not be hard, just... dangerous..."

"How so?" Link asked.

"They would have to offer themselves as worthy to the Endless Hunt, which consists of the spirits of all prior sages and significant heroes and figures. If they offer themselves and are deemed not worthy, they could be killed."
