"Tanith and Valkyrie glared at each other across the Ping-Pong table that was set up in Skulduggery's living room.

"Finally," Valkyrie says dramatically.

"The time has come," Tanith replied, just as dramatically.

"She turns on the camera.

"They raised their paddles, Tanith holding the ball as well. Valkyrie's gaze shifted to the ball, unwavering. They had been waiting for this. Ever since they saw a Ping Pong table on eBay all they dreamed of was playing Ping Pong themselves and defeating the World Record for longest Ping Pong match. And after two months of constant begging and pleading, literally, Skulduggery finally caved and bought a two hundred buck Ping Pong table equipped with netting, balls, paddles and best of all: cup holders.

"Valkyrie takes a drink from her Coke and put it back in her cup holder then resumed her game stare. Tanith grabbed the stereo remote and turned some music on. 'Eye of the Tiger' started playing and both girls smiled.

"Perfect.

"And then Tanith threw the ball in. Valkyrie responds with a perfect hit back. Stuff just got serious. Tanith hits it back, aiming for the corner. Valkyrie gets it but barely!

"Tanith's bringing up the offense, Valkyrie defense. Now they've switched tactics, Valkyrie is being offensive and all Tanith can do is defend. Oh no, a spike. Can the swordswoman get it? Yes she does! And she back with a vengeance. Valkyrie had better watch out because-"

"WOULD YOU QUIT IT WITH THE ANOUNCER STUFF ALREADY?!" both girls screamed, still going at it.

Skulduggery, who had been sitting in his meditating chair the whole time, shrank back slightly at the girls' outburst.

"Just trying to add some suspense," he mumbled.

"We have enough suspense already, thank you very much," Valkyrie snapped.

"Yeah! We don't need you distracting us!" Tanith snarled, dealing a nasty blow that almost got past Valkyrie, managed to get it just in time.

Skulduggery harrumphed and crossed his arms. "Fine. I'll go and visit Ghastly. He'll at least be nice to me."

Valkyrie and Tanith weren't listening anymore, too intent on their game. The game went one for four hours, neither girl stopping for a break and no one had scored yet either. Both were drenched in sweat and panting hard, not losing speed.

They were almost there. Just two more minutes and they would break the World Record. Tanith and Valkyrie knew they were close. They could do this. They could beat it. Just one more minute and-

And then Fletcher Renn teleported into the room, scaring both girls and causing them to lose their focus. The Ping Pong ball hit the floor.

"NO!" Both girls screamed.

Fletcher frowned, looking bewildered. Then his gaze cleared. "Oh! Were you guys beating the World Record today? I thought that was tomorrow…."

He trailed off when he saw the looks Valkyrie and Tanith were giving him. He felt something well up inside of him. Some cold and scary. Something he hadn't felt since the same girls had almost shaved him bald. Oh yeah.

It was called fear.

Valkyrie and Tanith lunged for him at the same time, snarling. Fletcher screamed and teleported away just in time, the girls landing in a heap on the floor.

They looked at each other.

"Revenge."
