CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Dave wasn't ready to turn in the project on Monday, but that wasn't his fault. He and Eridan never even got together to work on it, much less did he actually get a say in what the punk put down on the paper. So when he had Sollux forward them the project from Eridan, he looked over it and changed the wording, and improvised a few bits.

So when Eridan came to school on the next Monday and got his project back, he was very surprised to find a big red F on the paper. The teacher only tsked at him before moving on, and after reviewing the work, Eridan saw that Dave had messed up everything he had written.

Eridan walked up to the teacher's desk after class. "May I hav-ve a w-word w-with you?"

"I suppose," the teacher said, shuffling his papers and glaring at him a bit.

"Dav-ve changed the answ-wers on our paper. I can show-w you my copy on my flashdriv-ve. I sent it to him to turn in but he must hav-ve messed them up for some reason."

"I think you're being a little dramatic."

"But sir!"

"Let me see the answers and I'll boost your grade," the teacher said as Eridan shuffled through his backpack to find his flashdrive. "But I doubt that Dave would change the answers you gave him. Maybe he didn't get your email and decided to do it himself."

Eridan passed him the flashdrive. "I don't think so. Sol sent it to him an' he said Dav-ve got it."

"Maybe Sollux sabatoged it."

"He w-wouldn't do that!"

The teacher looked over the answers. "I'll change your grade for you since it's obvious you actual do know things about history."

Eridan rolled his eyes and took back his flashdrive before leaving the classroom towards his next class when he heard someone call him. He turned to see a pair of red eyes and a hand gesture to come closer before the figure disappeared behind a building to the road back behind the gym. Eridan curiously followed before he found himself shoved up against the bricks and a pair of lips on his. He blinked a few times and struggled, but Dave Strider was much stronger than he was.

That was when he heard two familiar voices coming towards them.

"Well, I wath coding a new viruth for NP that wathn't really a viruth becauthe it jutht made pictureth of catth show up every two minuteth, but then KK thtarted bothering me and—"

"Does Karkat ever not bother you?" John and Sollux were rounding the corner and Eridan's mind was racing as he tried to get away from the boy.

Two gasps. Dave pulled away and Eridan gasped for breath before moving a few feet from Dave.

"Dave! How could you?" John asked, his eyes dark and hurt.

"John, before you say anything—"

John ran far away, and Dave ran after him, leaving Eridan and Sollux behind that wall.

Sollux looked down. "What happened?"

"He kissed me, Sol," Eridan said. "I saw-w him an' he called me ov-ver an' I w-wanted to confront him about how-w he messed up my grade then he grabbed me an' kissed me."

Sollux shook his head. "It looked like you were kiththing back."

"I w-wasn't. This w-wasn't my fault!"

"Dave wouldn't cheat on John, though!" Sollux said, leaning back against the wall. "They've been together for tho long. He wouldn't do it."

"Sol, you hav-ve to believ-ve me!"

"How can I? I know Dave. I don't know you."

"Yes you do, don't say that kind of stuff. You know-w me."

Sollux stood back up straight. "I'm gonna go talk to Dave…"

"Sol, please."

"Jutht… I'll text you later, okay?"

"You w-will?"

"Yeth."

"Alright…" Eridan sighed and leaned forward to kiss Sollux's cheek before they headed off in different directions—Eridan towards class and Sollux towards Dave.
