Chapter Twenty-Four
"W-What do you mean Sollux has a tw-win brother?" Eridan asked Kanaya in the morning as they sat on the bus together. Vriska's car had been put in the shop for repairs, so Eridan had opted for taking the bus with Kanaya that rainy Wednesday morning. Rose LaLonde and her older sister took the bus regularly, but they had yet to reach their stop.
She nodded. "Saw him with my own eyes! Well, computer screen. He looked exactly like Sollux. His name's Mituna, and I think he's impaired."
"Impaired?"
"Mentally," she said. "It's the only reason I can think of for why Mituna wouldn't be in school and why Sollux would want to keep him hidden."
Eridan shrugged. "Kind of a stupid reason if you ask me."
"We have no right to question his reasons," Kanaya said. She quickly changed the subject. "How're you holding up?"
"I'm fine," Eridan said with a sigh. "I guess I'm just kind of ov-ver the drama. V-Vris's been quiet lately, so my only problem is Sol, who continues to be a gigantic douche-w-wad."
"Oh, tell me about it," Kanaya growled. "I've been trying to talk sense into him but it's not working!"
"Talk sense into who?" Rose asked as she sat down across from them.
"Sollux," Eridan whined.
"Oh, don't be such a baby," Rose said. "All this stuff with Vriska and Sollux? It'll work out in the end. These things always do. I think you're being a little bit over-dramatic."
"Ov-ver-dramatic?" Eridan asked. "V-Vriska is the one w-who is ov-ver-dramatic! She ran ov-ver my Harry Potter w-wand. She gav-ve me a concussion!"
"How is that, by the way?" Kanaya asked quickly.
Eridan smiled at her. "Oh, v-very good, actually."
"Good," Kanaya said, smiling back.
"Anyw-way, if you think I'm bein' ov-ver-dramatic, you'v-ve got another thing comin' to you, sister."
"Eridan, please never speak like that again for the safety of all of our friends and family."
"Sorry, Kan."
"Listen, Rose, what I think we're trying to say is, is that Vriska is taking this to a level that this shouldn't have elevated to, and there's reasons other than hatred towards her brother."
"Exactly," Eridan said. "This isn't just about me and V-Vris anymore. This is concerning ev-veryone. Look at what she did to John and Dav-ve! That's not okay. Actually, nothing she's done over these past few weeks is okay."
"I understand," Rose said. "As much as I think this is pointless, I guess I can help if you need me to."
Eridan and Kanaya thought a moment, and then leaned towards Rose. Eridan asked, "Do you know-w Dav-ve's schedule?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Kan, w-who is the one person w-we know-w of w-who can hack a phone besides Sol?"
"Dirk?"
"No, Kan."
"Equius."
"Exactly!" Eridan smirked.
"Not exactly," Kanaya said. "Equius is our friend. He wouldn't just betray you like that. Hell, Eridan, he was the one who pulled you out of the pool when you busted your head! Do you really think he hates you enough to hack a phone for Vriska's advantage?"
"No, I don't," Eridan said. "But I bet you she did something to force him into doing it."
"I don't think Vriska is smart enough to formulate that clever of a plan," Rose said.
"I wouldn't doubt her," Kanaya said. "Vriska is vicious, and so at least we have an idea. That's what counts."
"What's our next move, then?" Rose asked. Both her and Kanaya turned to Eridan, who only said it was time to try to find proof and to end this ridiculousness once and for all.
