Kuon looked at his parents. He could understand now why they were here and he had accepted why Lory had sent them in and when he was honest with himself he was glad he had help. Kuon sighed. Even with his parents he couldn't feel comfortable being this far away from Kyoko when she needed him.
"Well I'm going to turn in its been a long day." Julie and Kuu both nodded before hugging Kuon and wishing him goodnight it was when Kuon had reached their suite door he turned back to his parents.
"I really am glad you're here and I just hope we can help Kyoko through this. She doesn't deserve anymore sadness in her life and she definitely doesn't deserve to be hurt again. And I know for me to keep her happy and safe I'm going to need your help. I don't care what happens to me at the end of all of this as long as Kyoko is ok." He didn't know what else to say so left it at that before nodding to them both and continuing back on the way to his suite. As soon as the door shut and they heard the elevator pulling away Julie leant in close to Kuu fighting back the tears that threatened her.
"He really has fallen in love."
It felt like he had only been sleeping a few minutes when he heard her. The whimpering cry of a bleeding heart shook Kuon from his own uneasy rest. At first he wondered if it had just been part of his own dream as he lie there on his back listening for the smallest noise in their shared suite. But no, there it was again. The sad whimper. Kuon strained his ears. Was Kyoko awake again? Was she ok?
"Mommy no." He heard Kyoko's hushed tone.
"I'll do better mommy. I'll be a better girl... Please mommy no... Mommy I don't like the dark." The more Kyoko said the more distressed her voice became as she begged and pleaded for her 'mommy' to let her out. That she would do better and not to smack her.
Kuon's own parents had smacked him when he was younger and he knew every time that he deserved it, but the way Kyoko was crying out made Kuon's heart break a little more for the young woman he loved. He was out of his own bed within moments and kneeling beside Kyoko's bed.
"Shhhh Kyoko it's ok... Shhhh Kyoko-chan I'm here." He cooed stroking her hair and trying to calm the withering woman.
"Corn...He hurt me Corn and you were gone...My prince..." Kuon could tell Kyoko was still asleep, but it didn't stop his free hand from fisting besides the bed. She was right He hadn't been there. He had left Kyoko not wanting to break her ideal of him being a fairy prince. He had given her no way of contacting him. If he had... would it be different now? Would he be fighting for the woman he loved to open her heart to him? Or would he have been able to gain it much sooner.
"Don't leave me again... No Corn don't go!" Kyoko was crying out now. Gone were the whispers. Her shouts bounced off the walls as she begged Corn not to leave her.
"It hurts! It burns!" she cried, now frantic as Kuon stood and gathered Kyoko in his arms and held her close to his chest on sheer impulse.
"I'm not going anywhere Kyoko-chan. Never again will I leave you..I will always try and protect you... Forever Kyoko... Forever and ever you just have to let me Kyoko. You have to let me love you." Kuon could feel his own tears as he held Kyoko like a lifeline.
She had been his anchor for so long and now he knew he had to be hers. He had to be more than anyone else. Her anchor, her pillar of support and if she would let him her lover. For Kyoko deserved love.
"I've got you Kyoko, I've got you." As soon as he had gathered her in his arms, Kyoko's thrashing had stopped relaxing into the warmth of his chest.
"Nii-san.." the voice was breathy and almost rendered Kuon unable to answer as looked down expecting those big golden eyes he loved so much. But no she was still asleep.
"Ren." The name almost made his heart stop. He half wanted her to call him Corn again rather than the fake name he would have been happy for her to call him by only a few short days ago.
"I'm here Kyoko. I'm here I've got you." he watched as the small smile lifted her cheeks. Her small hand bunching in his sleep shirt as she breathed in deeply.
"Don't leave me," she said quietly, before drifting further into a more sedate sleep, Kuon slowly moved them lower on the bed with her head resting on his chest. Her small movements and her breathing were like a lullaby as he decided not to worry about how she would react tomorrow. Right now her clenched fist in his shirt and her need of him won over his rationality... Or was it the simple fact he couldn't stand to hear her call out for Corn not to leave her?
The Heel seniors seemed almost too easy to work for. Kanae thought as she sat down reading the reports from the president. But maybe that was for the bes with all the current information they were having to sort through. Kanae looked at the information on the screen. The president never did anything halfway and for once Kanae was pleased.
"So what have we got to go on?" Chiori asked sitting down beside her friend and looking at the laptop screen.
She had just been gone to check if there was anything the Heel's needed. It was almost 10am, but after the incident yesterday the Heels had been told to take the day off so were sleeping in. Sayuri had answered the door and told them very politely that until the children were awake they were free to do as they wished.
"Well we have detailed profiles of all the staff, crew and even the actors and actresses. Seems like the president has already narrowed our search down a little. He had grouped them into categories. Not possible, possible and need further investigation. "So I'm guessing this is the list we will be starting with and if we need to we move on to the possible..." Chiori waited as Kanae seemed to trail off in thought. There were 32 names on the need further investigation list.
"Remind me how long we have to do this again?" Chiori asked scanning the list and details of each person listed.
"For as long as the Heel siblings are on set, so like 2 weeks." Kanae said with a sigh and Chiori just had to agree with her.
"Do you think it's even possible? After the reception we got from Setsuka yesterday. Do you think we are going to be able to find where this whole thing started? It's not like we can just go up to these people and say 'Hello I would like to see your phone to see if you took a picture on this date and sent it to the press,' now is it?"
Kanae nodded a looking a little more defeated. "Well for a start we need a plan of action on how to deal with the first part of that problem." She pulled up pictures that had been taken of the Heel siblings by reporters and news report recordings.
"So what have you in mind? She seems.. I don't know, as if her brother is the only one she cares about, if that makes sense."
Kanae nodded, it made a lot more sense than it should really. "Have you seen how they look at each other? I can half believe that their relationship is of the incestuous kind at some moments. Then at other times it is more of an open affection. Like you would see two people who have no one else, almost like they feed off each other, lean on each other in their own little world as you say. But could that just be from the fact they have come to an entirely different country and they really do have only each other? Have they created this bond because of how they have been treated here? Their relationship with their parents seems...well normal I suppose even if it does seem a little strained at times." Kanae sighed yet again knowing if Maria was here she would be telling her she was losing happiness every time she did so.
"So maybe we take a page out of Kyoko's book?" Chiori asked looking at Kanae again, who just looked back at her a little confused.
"In what way?" she asked wondering how either of them could ever be like her best friend? She really was one of a kind and Kanae doubted she could ever be copied.
"We try and befriend them. Don't allow them the chance to keep us out?"
Kanae couldn't help it she had to laugh. "So basically we force them into a friendship with us and through our newfound friendship we ask Setsu to help us find out who started the rumours?" She shook her head.
"You know you're right, that really is a Kyoko move." Chiori smiled as she nodded.
They had shared their Kyoko stories early on. Chiori had even admitted to hurting Kyoko. Even though Kanae had been disgusted she accepted Chiori's heartfelt sorrow at her actions and how she had worked hard to repair the damage she had done. Chiori was right. Both of them had set out not to have friends especially those like Kyoko. But she truly had never really given them a choice and pushed her way through their defenses, lodging herself in their hearts and never relinquishing her hold.
"I hope she's Ok." Kanae added as Chiori placed a comforting hand on Kanae's shoulder.
No words were needed. They both felt the same worry about their over exuberant friend with borderline mad tendencies. They both missed her.
Kyoko could feel the tender and calming touch as it slowly stroked down her back. It was calming in a way she had rarely felt before. A tender touch calming her to her very soul as she snuggled into the warmth that was beneath her. Taking a deep breath Kyoko tensed. What the?' She felt the slight rise and fall below her and without knowing why she knew she wasn't alone in the bed anymore. Ren was there... But why? Had he needed her like that time before?
No she couldn't remember anything like that, but then why? Why was Ren in her bed! Why was he holding her? Kuon knew the moment she woke up. The way her body stiffened beneath his hand as he wondered how he should go about this. How was he going to stop her running for the hills? As Cain gave him the answer he smiled.
"I can remember the last time you had a nightmare like last night Setsu, I can remember you were just the same not wanting me to leave you.. How old were we then Setsu? I would have been 15? 16 maybe? So you would have been 12-13. I remember we had not listened to Mom and Dad deciding we were old enough to watch The Ring." Cain Chuckled as if he was thinking back on a fond memory.
"I think you were more trying to show me how grown up you could really be. Even though it terrified you, you never let it show on the outside. Never let me see your fear. That was until we went to sleep that night. It was the same then Setsu... You crying out for me begging me not to leave you. Do you remember?"
He had felt her relax slipping into character not long into his made up narration. He felt her smiling into his chest at points when he had just had to think about how Kyoko would have reacted.
"Of course I do Nii-san... Though I think back then the bed seemed a lot bigger."
Now Cain really did laugh. "Either that or we have just gotten bigger."
He watched as Setsu lifted her steel grey eyes to his own and smiled sweetly at him. "Or you're just a great big lug."
Cain never got a chance to defend himself as Setsu struck, her fingers tickling him mercilessly as Cain tried to roll away laughing, trying not to throw her off of him and in the same time off the bed. Setsu laughed at her brother's predicament as she just tickled him harder. Finally Cain called for a halt his breathing coming in great gasps. Setsu smiled and lay down again on his chest looking at him with her calm eyes, still red from the attack they had received the day before.
"How are you feeling?" Cain asked stroking his thumb across Setsu's face lovingly.
"It feels better Nii-san." Setsu watched as Cain's eyes softened at her words.
"But still not right?" he guessed and Setsu nodded. There was no point trying to hide it from her beloved Nii-san, he always knew. He could always tell, it was one of the reasons he was her most important man. No one else knew her like he did. No one else had ever really tried.
"Well how about we get up and find the eyedrops and see if we can't at least make them feel a little bit better?" Cain watched as Setsu cuddled him once more before maneuvering herself off of him into a seated position on the side of the bed.
"We slept late Nii-san," she commented as Kuon glanced at the clock on the bedside table.
"We did." He offered as his only reply, looking at the flashing numbers that read 11:23. If he was completely honest after waking up with Kyoko in his arms he really didn't't care.
Kyoko looked at herself in the mirror and forced herself to stay calm. Had she really been calling out for Cain? Or had she been calling out for Ren?! Her heart was still beating at one hundred miles a minute or so it felt as she braced herself against the sink.
"How could I have used him as a pillow!" she scoldingly whispered to herself.
She had almost jumped out of the bed as soon as her brain had fully caught on to the implications of what was happening. But then there had been Cain's voice, the deep soothing tones which had spoken of what he made her to believe were happy memories. And as Setsu took over, she too felt the happiness of always having someone there. Someone who had always been close and ready to hold her and comfort her when she was scared or afraid. Like a family Kyoko thought as she thought back on the times her mother had left her crying. The times she had locked her in that room in the dark because she was yet again unable to do something that her mother had thought she should be able to do.
If Kyoko looked back on those things now, she wondered how she had ever thought it possible. How had she ever thought that she would be able to do what the woman was asking of her? She remembered the sharp slaps and occasional backhands she got when she would disturb her mother at her work. Or if she made too much noise or simply laughed. And yet it wasn't until Kuu had taught her just how loving a true family could be. Until Cain and Julie had taught her that she truly saw just how badly her own mother had treated her.
The Fuwa's had always treated her well enough, but they had a business to run and very little time to spare on the daughter of a friend who up and left them with her child. Yes they had been kind and yes they had fed and clothed her, but really they simply seemed afraid to love her. Kyoko had wondered about it since her time with Kuu, but forgotten about it. Yet now it was there question in her mind of what they had been so scared of? And maybe if she actually thought about the way her mother had treated her, would she have treated the Fuwa's much differently?
It was almost like going to school with Sho. Had his parents simply been scared to love Kyoko for the repercussions that it may have brought back on them from her mother? The more she thought the more her head hurt and really at this moment she was trying to figure out how to get the courage to go back into the main suite area and apologise to the man that was waiting there!
Taking a deep breath Kyoko looked up at Setsu standing before her. She could not always rely on Setsu to get her out of these messes she knew that. With the second deep breath she gently trailed her fingers over her still red and puffy eyes. The swelling was better and it was now only a very faint tingle behind her eye. Hoping it would be better with the eyedrops she breathed deeply again. Before turning from the sink unit and walking out the door, it was now or never. Entering the sitting room area she spotted him instantly in the seat by the balcony with a script in hand. Was he Ren now? Or maybe he was still Cain? Only one way to find out, she told herself as she walked towards the seated man who at the sound of her footsteps looked up.
"How are you feeling Kyoko?" Well question answered, Kyoko thought as she dove to the floor before him.
"I'm so sorry Tsuruga-san! I never meant to wake you up and make you look after me!" she cried as she carried on into reasons of why she wasn't worthy. Reasons of why he should hate her and be disgusted with her. Her apologies seemed endless as Kuon stood from the chair and pulled the small figure off the floor, before clutching her to him with his arms.
"Kyoko, I never want to hear you say those things again! Do you understand me?" Kyoko could feel the anger radiating from him as she shuddered.
She forced herself not to pull away from the man she knew not to be Ren or Cain, but someone else entirely. Ren forced Kuon down scolding himself for allowing the situation he now found himself in. Kyoko noticed as soon as the voice changed again. Not many people would have noticed it, that slight internal shift as Ren returned.
"I'm not angry Kyoko, but you have to understand I'm your friend and I care about you. What kind of friend would I be if I allowed you to go on suffering, even if it was just in your dreams?" The arms that had been clamping her to the firm chest lessened slightly as tender feelings of his hand stroking her back calmed her.
"I hate hearing you berate yourself Kyoko. You are not unworthy of anything and I would be more upset if in times like this you did not allow me to comfort you."
Kyoko could feel the lump rising in her throat. She knew she needed to pull away, this was too dangerous. She was letting go of that strong resolve she had built up around herself in place of her locks, but no matter how much she wanted to she couldn't do it... She couldn't push away the man who had always been so kind and understanding when she needed it. Even if he did only see her as a kouhai, friend or worse still, a sister?
