Kanae wondered if this was a good idea after all. Yes they had been out for a few hours now. But at least they had been moving around in and out of shops and changing rooms but it seemed the Heels didn't think twice of sitting under the bright sun umbrellas eating ice cream, even with the growing crowd.
It had shocked both girls the way in which Cain without speaking had guided the girls into him paying for the ice treats, never saying a word but making it clear that he was paying and no complaint was to be heard. Or the way Setsu had smiled sweetly adding simply
"My Nii-San is a gentleman." And neither girl could deny that. Even though he was taciturn and antisocial, they had never had to open a door in his presence. It was held open for them and he would follow behind. That was if he got there before Calvin who had even made sure to assist them out of the large black car Lory had sent for their use. It wasn't a flashy Limo as Kanae had expected but rather a large state car with seating for eight people in the back. Setsu was right the Love Me girls realised. Cain was a gentleman, in his own way.
"Heel-san! Heel-san!" They'd been found.
"We had better get moving." Chiori said as she tossed her used napkin into the nearby trashcan. "The place will be crawling with them soon, and i don't know about you but I hate reporters." Kanae just nodded as she tossed the last of her own cone into the trash a nervous feeling in her own stomach making her no longer feel like eating was a pleasurable experience.
"Yeah, I would rather avoid the press if we can help it. They bring other problems with them sadly." Setsu and Cain both looked unbothered by the shouting reporter. As they both stood following the two girls lead, it didn't mean much to either of them if someone was shouting questions at them or not.
It happened as they were walking away. The persistent reporter following them with questions spilling from his lips like a torrent. Kanae wondered if he was just an opportunist as he was asking in rapid Japanese and as far as she had seen Setsu had only answered questions from the reporters directed at them in English. The man could not get close to them. Lory's guards were with them of course, but it seemed this man knew a little more than Kanae thought as he asked a question which would have upset even her if it had been asked about her own siblings.
"People are saying your sister is more of a personal whore than a manager, how would you react to this Heel-san?" They never saw the movement. Not even Lory's personal guards were fast enough to intercept the infuriated Cain Heel as the reporters feet left the floor, his camera falling uselessly to the floor lens shattering as Cain lifted him by his throat.
"Never insult any woman, especially my sister with words such as that!" Like a ragdoll Cain tossed the man back to the floor where he sat, terrified by the towering figure before him.
"Cain..." the words were softly spoken "He's not worth it." The small hand that connected with his back stopped Kuon from jumping the man before him. She was there.. He was with her and he needed to back down.
"Never will I accept a man disparaging a woman as such in my presence. You better not forget that before you speak in future." All the reporter could do was nod as he swiftly shuffled backwards from the dark entity that had arisen.
Kanae was already on her phone instructing the driver to pick them up immediately as the guards closed ranks around the four of them.
"Come on Nii-san." Setsu's hand found Cain's and pulled Cain back into focus. In Kuon's mind as he turned away from the man who had been holding his furious gaze as if he were a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming vehicle. The car was there and within moments the two Love Me girls pushed the Heels in, the situation forgotten as Kanae slammed the door shut behind them and told the driver to drive. With no destination the driver just did as asked allowing his own directions to guide him around the city he knew so well.
"I cannot believe you just did that!" Kanae half shouted at the seated man before her. Cain just looked at her unperturbed sitting there still hand in hand with his sister as Setsu snorted allowing a very devious smirk to cross her face.
"That was nothing but a warning. Nii-san beat four punks up for touching me when we first got to Japan." Inside Kyoko was screaming at how wrong Ren's actions had been, but here as Setsu she was simply being honest. Cain had been very reserved in his behaviour and anger in that moment .
Kyoko wondered if he would've done more without her intervention. But he had promised her he would live as she wanted and that meant he would not have taken the lesson further didn't it? Kyoko had to admit the reporter had been very unprofessional in his questioning. He was probably part of some backwater gossip magazine. What none of the seated group knew was back at the incident location said columnist was being politely asked to escort the guards to meet with their boss about the incident and to reimburse the man for his camera damage.
That story would never hit the press. Lory had made sure of incidents like this being dealt with immediately and even when asked of any incident that had happened outside that day, all that would be said by anyone was that Cain Heel had protected his sister's dignity, as he should.
Kanae had scoured that mornings paper. There had been no mention of the incident from the day before and Kanae was more than thankful for that small blessing. But it appeared her little outburst and further comments had led her back to square one with getting on friendly terms with Setsuka.
They had relayed the incident to both of the senior Heels who had both been displeased at the event yet pleased of their son's actions. Calvin firmly and in earshot of the woman who had been sitting in the lounge area, berated his son's stupidity for his actions. Setsu pouted the entire time who under her mother's stern gaze was unable to defend her brother. Kanae flung the paper back on to the chair beside her.
"Anything?" Chiori asked half knowing the answer by Kanae's reaction.
"No, nothing thankfully! Though I doubt the boss will be very impressed!" Kanae was in a foul mood and Chiori knew it as she seated herself before the older girl ready to try and calm her if needed before joining the family. Cain would be returning to the set today and they would be joining him to start their investigation.
"There was nothing we could have done, it's not like either of us would have been able to hold Heel-san back in that situation. The guy was really out of line with the questions he was asking. It was if he was asking for it He knew what made him tick." Kanae looked at Chiori and suddenly it was as if someone had just told her the answer to a riddle and all the parts made sense.
Jumping up she was gone, returning not moments later with the Love Me laptop. After swiftly logging into the private online document which would be their communication with Lory unless they needed instant assistance when they would use their cells. Kanae scanned the daily messages from the president and took a swift intake of breath.
The reporter has admitted to being paid to antagonise Cain Heel so please be aware of future attempts. I have sorted out this mishap. Please continue your good work.
Well it didn't appear they were in trouble as she had half expected, but it certainly made sense that the reporter had been paid to ask questions he knew would anger Cain Heel. But why though? What had the person been trying to gain. Chiori who had been reading over Kanae's shoulder suddenly whistled softly to herself.
"It's like they're trying to make him seem violent, even dangerous. Do you think it's one of the extremist groups that want the Heel's exported?" Kanae looked at the younger girl beside her. She had always known that Chiori was clever in the ways of human thought but she still marveled at just how fast her mind was putting the pieces together.
"I think that could be very likely, or it could be our first offender again. Whoever it is, they really do have discontent with Cain Heel it seems." Kanae stated simply as she read through Sebastian's report. He was the only other person who also had access to the documentation.
"Not only Cain though, Setsuka too." Chiori added as she pointed at a comment about the rise in hate directed towards the young woman in social media.
"Whoever it is really has it out for them." The girls sat in silence for a few moments. It seemed their job was getting larger and more complicated. Still a web of rumours, lies and discontent. And if the behavior the day before had been anything to go on, the longer this game went on the more difficult it would become.
"We had better get upstairs. We will be leaving in half an hour and we still need to be briefed on what will be happening today." Kanae said finally standing up and packing away the laptop. They would report in that night as discussed prior with the president.
Kanae wondered what had been the starting factor to the small scale civil war that appeared to be ongoing in the presidential suite as Calvin tried to console Setsuka whilst telling Cain off. Sayuri was trying unsuccessfully to mediate as Setsu sent death glares at all three members of her family.
"I don't care what people are saying! I am going with you and that's that!" Chiori was amazed the metal heels on her leather boots didn't go through the floor with the impact of Setsu's fit of rage.
"No you are not." Was Cain's simple and uncompromising reply as he stood before his sister. Neither girl had ever even considered that the siblings argued, but to be in the same room as them as they stood off against each other was like being in a small cage with a lion and lioness at odds.
"Don't you speak to your sister like that!" Calvin admonished before turning to Setsu. "He does have a point sweetheart. Maybe it would be better for you to stay here today." If looks could kill both of the men would have been struck down as the girl rose to her full height.
"I am your manager Nii-san. You. Need. Me." there was more behind her venom spat words, all the listening party knew that. Though only Kuon knew just how right she was, he could not accept the fact that she may be hurt again... That he may not be able to protect her again.
"No." Both Kanae and Chiori jumped as thunder cracked outside, adding to the terrifying figure that had been Cain Heel. His face was full of complete and utter determination as he stared down his sister. Forcing his will upon her in a way he had never done before.
Setsu felt no fear at the picture her brother posed in that moment, only anger. He needed her and both Setsu and Kyoko knew that. It was almost like a joint assault in which they stood against the man who meant so much to both of them. But they were losing. The weight of the combined glares of Cain, Ren and Kuon were slowly wearing down on the woman who was everything any of them could hope for as she stood there defiant.
He had won. He knew it as soon as Setsu turned and stalked away. She did not even pause as Calvin and Sayuri both called her back. She was out of the room and gone before they could even think to follow her. It was Sayuri's turn to sigh as she collapsed onto the sofa gracefully.
"Surely you could have worded that better Cain!" Her words were tired and frustrated making both girls think that maybe they had walked in after a long fought battle of wills.
"I will not have her hurt for the simple mindedness of others." And just like his sister Cain was gone. Striding out of the room a few moments later they all heard the heavy elevator doors shut.
"Well.. They... argh!" Calvin said throwing himself down beside his wife. Clearly he too was frustrated.
"You were not much better dear." Sayuri commented watching Calvin pace before taking a deep breath and releasing it. His normal hue returned and along with it his rationality.
"I know but I hate to see them fighting. It's so strange to see them at odds with each other." He sighed. "But they both have perfectly good arguments. Without Setsu there there is no saying what Cain will be up to. But at the same time surely they are more of a target together than when they are apart. Setsu is still a girl after all." Kanae and Chiori almost laughed at the incredulous look that entered Sayuri's eyes.
"Are you trying to say women are weak! Are you truly saying that our daughter... My daughter would fail under a little incident such as this." But whereas Cain had risen to Setsu's anger, Calvin shied under Sayuri's.
"Of course not dear... No one said she was weak.. it's just she is still recovering from the pepper spray and she needs more time to fully recover!" His quick words did not affect the lioness which was Sayuri for a moment before she too caved.
"They are both just too stubborn. I suppose they get it from us." Calvin nodded looking slightly sad.
"Now I'm very sorry ladies, but please come sit." Sayuri said pointing to the open seats. Kanae wondered how they could be so welcoming and calm. She had worried they would have been angry at them intruding on such a private family moment as a row. But it seemed the English did not hold as strongly onto this subject as a traditional Japanese family would have. As the girls nodded in welcome and sat on one of the love seats together both Calvin and Sayuri smiled warmly at them.
"I'm sorry you had to see that ladies. But now we will need to decide how we are going to work today. It seems Cain is set against his sister joining him at the shoot today as it is an outdoor shoot within one of the shopping districts. Out in the open and as you can imagine open to press and discontents alike." Both girls nodded, understanding now why Cain would be set against Setsu being present. He could not be with her when filming and could not protect her as Cain seemed inclined to do at any cost.
"So he put his foot down and as you saw Setsu did not take kindly to this." Both girls nodded seriously. "Well we need to visit Lory today anyway, so she could come with us. But it may take a little work to get her to agree." Sayuri said looking at Calvin who nodded in a thoughtful way. "But we will also need one of you to go with Cain if possible. Though we would like to keep one of you with us for when we are unable to be with Setsuka, it would not be good to leave her to her own devices." Calvin snorted out a laugh.
"No she would only end up at the shoot with Cain causing more of a scene than needed at the moment." The simple fact that both girls agreed entirely with him did not need to be voiced. It was almost like an unspoken law with the siblings. Where one went another would follow.
"This will all blow over of course. Cain will soon cave to Setsuka as soon as he has cooled down and seen just how upset his overprotective behaviour has affected her. He never could stay angry with her, just like she can never really stay angry with him." A comfortable silence fell as the Love Me girls took in the problems they would face today. They would be split up and even though they could both work well alone, they did it most days unless it was a joint Love Me request. Being with a sibling just seemed to add a little uncertainty to the task which only added to the worries already building up.
"I will try and stay with Setsuka-san if she will allow me." Kanae said finally after a few moments though she had spent just a little more time conversing with the girl than Chiori, who had really yet to converse with her at all. Unless you counted opening the door the first night or a few failed attempts at the ice cream parlour.
"OK well I will go with Cain-san as long as he does not mind. I'm not sure if he really needs an interpreter so I should be ok." Chiori was not as confident in her English as Kanae or Kyoko, but she was acceptable. Still relaying directions could be a little beyond her. Sayuri laughed. It was a beautiful sound.
"Oh don't you mind that great dope. He is fully versed in Japanese, even if he chooses not to speak it often." Chiori nodded with a small smile. She was rather interested in seeing Cain work if she was honest and this seemed too perfect and opportunity to pass up. She smiled her thanks at Kanae who knew from nightly talks how she felt. Slightly uncomfortable about standing against Setsu, she was like Natsu at an entirely new level she had admitted and Kanae couldn't help but agree. But Kanae was no pushover herself and she quietly admired the girl for it.
Kanae watch the girl standing on the balcony in the light rain, her face turned upwards to the heavens as it trickled down her porcelain skin, she silently step out through the half open door standing beside the girl silently as she looked out over Tokyo. Setsu's eyes remained shut giving no acknowledgement that she had noticed the other womans presents.
"It must be the oldest female trick in the book." Kanae finally said breaking the silence between them. "Hiding your tears in the rain and it's amazing how well it works sometimes." Setsu never opened her eyes or looked towards the woman beside her so Kanae continued.
"I have a friend she's a bit of an odd girl, but in the same moment she is amazing. It wouldn't surprise me one day if she doesn't surpass everyone and become not only Japan's number one, but take the world by storm. She told me that this was something she had done on more than one occasion. She had a very unhappy childhood you see, but she never let it show.. She would never let people see her pain. I'm the same of course seeing it as a weakness, but the more she learn't the more she seemed to understand that she had to share her pain sometimes. That as long as there were people who cared about you, there were people who wanted to help you and share that pain. More than once she has shared my pain and in the process, I've found it helps for her to share my pain." Kanae stopped here wondering just what she was trying to say. She knew she was trying to hold out the olive branch to this girl, but the little Kyoko she was channeling seemed uncomfortable with talking about herself in such high esteem. But to Kanae she simply was that important, even though she hated to realise it in such a deep way.
"So you're saying I need to share my pain? And just who would listen?" The words sounded almost accusatory. Setsu had still not moved from her position. Kanae was right. After exiting the room both Setsu's and Kyoko's angry tears had gotten the better of her. Setsu was angry at her brother. He needed her, she needed to be there for him. No one else was good enough for her Nii-san but her...Sh was meant to be his most important person and here he was refusing her!
Kyoko was more angry at herself. She had gotten Ren into this mess and now it was almost as if he was telling her she was not good enough. That she was a liability. Yet Kyoko knew that the anger in Ren and the other person he was fighting so hard against who was so angry at the world... At himself . He needed Setsu, had Cain not said it himself? Had he not proven it when he needed her that night in their old hotel. The night he had taken her in his arms and refused to let go?
"Well I'm here." The words were quiet in the open air. But both Setsu and Kyoko heard them, and the feelings of honesty behind them and Setsu almost smiled.
