"So… can you explain to me why that man claimed to be my father?" Max asked.

Max, Fang, and Angel were currently sitting in Angel's room, their safe haven at the moment.

"And why did he try to kill me?" Fang added.

Angel sighed in frustration. She sat on the edge of her bed, elbows on her knees and her head in her hands.

"Ok, I'm going to explain what's going on. You two need to keep an open mind, got it?" she told them. I hope this won't be that hard considering they both have wings.

Max and Fang both nodded, and Angel sighed again.

"Max, Fang, you are both more powerful than you think. Both of you, including myself, are what we call Chosen Children. We are a rare species of angels. Be sure not to mix up a Chosen with a Nephilim, because that is a completely different thing. They are warriors, and we are protectors. You two are a special case. Usually, the closest Elite find the Chosen Child right as their powers peek; around the age of 13. You two are 18. How long have you lived here?"

Max and Fang answered at the same time. "18 years."

Angel looked shocked. "I'll need to talk to the Elders about that."

Fang raised his hand. Angel rolled her eyes.

"Yes Fang?"

"What exactly is an Elder and did one just try to kill me?"

"An Elder is in some ways an Immortal. You know like you basic vampires and faeries what not? Only Elders aren't damned and they don't need to feed off of human blood to survive. However, Elders can die and you can kill them, just with great difficulty. They just age at a very slow rate. They're like Chosen Children but are closer related to Nephilim and are more powerful. And yes Fang, one did just try to kill you. His name is Elder Jeb."

"Wait a sec," Max said. "Why did he say he was my dad?"

"I don't know Max. that's something you're going to have to ask him."

"Yeah I'm so looking forward to that," Max muttered sarcastically.

"Wait so, you mentioned something called an Elite, what's that?" Fang asked.

"To put in simple terms, it the Elder/Chosen Children headquarters. Kind of," Angel explained. Max and Fang nodded.

In the small pause Angel could finally hear all the commotion down stairs. She glanced at Max and Fang and saw that they had noticed too.

"Come on, let's go see what's going on."

Entering the living room, Angel instantly became worried, and more than anything frightened. There Gazzy stood, tears streaming down his face as he screamed into his cell phone. Nudge sat on the couch, clutching a pillow close to her as she sobbed uncontrollably. Angel rushed to Nudge and spoke in her mind.

Nudge sweetie what's wrong what happened?

Ari has Iggy!

Ascreamed out loud.

Max and Fang were obviously confused about their friends' behavior.

"Angel what's wrong?" Fang asked, concern lacing through the tone of his voice.

All Angel could do was shake her head as the tears started to rain down her face. She didn't trust herself to speak aloud so she spoke in both their minds.

Along with the protectors, we have our enemies. Those who seek to harm the human world. Among those, are the Rouge Chosen Children. They are the ones who gave up their Light, and embraced their Dark. They are one of the most dangerous creatures on the planet. Their leader is one named Ari. He is vicious and cruel in the most unimaginable ways. And he has Iggy hostage.

"Well we have to do something! We can't just sit here crying like there's no hope. We can't just give up. I may not know you guys well, but you saved my life. And for that I owe you all. I've only known Iggy for a day, but I know he is worth saving, and he is worth the risks I am willing to take. You guys are protectors right? Then protect your own. We are going to go after this Ari guy, and we are getting Iggy back damn it!" Max's voice grew louder and louder. She was almost desperate for them to understand that she is willing to do anything to save her new friend.

"I'm with her," Fang said, putting an arm around Max. She looked at him in surprise, but he ignored the look.

Fang looked around the group that was silently crying.

"Anyone else?" he asked.

Nudge slowly stood from her place on the couch. "I'm in," she said sniffling.

"Same here," Gazzy said, his voice breaking. "I'm getting my best friend back, and I don't care what it takes."

Everyone turned to Angel, waiting. She stared back at each person.

"Let's go."
