Chapter 10

SPOV

I looked up at Godric expectantly.

"Well, there is something you probably do not know about yourself Sookie. There is a reason you can hear human thoughts." He never pulled up a chair like a normal person would, I guess vampire legs do not get tired.

"What?" How the hell did he even know that about me? "I can't…" I had to deny it, what if he tried to use me against other humans? I did not know Godric well enough to trust him.

"It is okay, I am not here to harm you or take advantage. I learned the truth about you years ago when I ran into your grandfather, Niall." The boy vampire explained calmly.

"I don't know anyone in my family by that name." I knew my grandparent's names and that was not one of them.

"I suspected you would not. Your grandmother wished to keep this information from you, I do not know her reasoning… however I feel it is important you know the truth now. The truth could help save Eric. You are part fairy Sookie, that is why you have never truly fit in with humans."

What? What the fuck?

Fairy? This was not real… I was not part Tinkerbell!

"I know it is hard for you to believe right now, but it is true. I have been allies with Niall for many centuries, when he told me of your existence he asked if I could look out for you…. Since fairies are like the sweetest honey to vampires, almost impossible to resist." Godric's demeanor made it hard to not believe him. I could not explain it but he had a way of instilling trust.

"If this is all true, why wouldn't he look after me himself? Or at least introduce himself?" He was a rather crappy grandfather so far if you asked me. Plus why would Gran lie about all of this? And where did the fairy portion of my lineage come into play? Who had slept with a fairy? I assumed many of these questions Godric did not even know the answers to.

"There was a war between the fae and vampires years ago. The result of that war was the fae retreated to their own realm and sealed off any portal to this world. When this happened Niall knew he would never see you again, so he asked me for a favor. I owed him after various events from long before the war, so I accepted and have kept my promise to him." He offered me a small smile.

"Wow…okay… so do you just watch me all the time?" That was creepy.

"No, no… I am a fairly busy vampire. I just check in from time to time to make sure no vampires or other supernatural creatures are trying to harm you. Over the years I just made sure I saw you alive at your home with no immediate danger. I never wanted to interfere… except once…" His voice faded and his eyes lost focus, as if he was remembering something in detail.

"What happened?" I tried to rack my brain and recall seeing this young immortal before but it was impossible.

"You must have been around eight years old at the time. I was in the area to check on you since I had not been there in months… just as I arrived you ran into the road after a ball or toy of some kind. A car with a drunk driver was swerving towards you, so I grabbed you and carried you to safety. Of course I moved so quickly you never saw me and had darted into the woods the second I placed you down on the grass."

I stared at him in awe. "I remember that day, I thought it was a miracle." I could still recall the car almost hitting me as I tried to run out of the way. I remembered feeling like I was flying and then being safely on my front lawn. At the time I thought it was a miracle… now I knew it was Godric.

"Thank you" I whispered to the vampire who had saved my life all those years ago.

Godric just nodded as if it was nothing.

"So what does this have to do with saving Eric?" I still had yet to grasp that.

Godric took an unnecessary breath. "Once my associates have located the area Ocella is in, we need a way to draw him out of hiding and distract him. He is likely as old as I am so we need more than strength to conquer him. I was thinking we could use you as the diversion, your fairy blood might distract him enough for us to subdue him. He is known for having more than the normal weakness towards the fae."

More than the normal weakness? That meant he enjoyed binging on fairy blood even more than the regular vampire. That did not sound pleasant. However I could not leave Eric to rot with this psychotic vampire either. If Godric and a team of vampires needed my help, there was probably no one who could easily overpower Ocella. Eric could be stuck with him for eternity if I did not find some courage and suck it up.

"Okay" My voice was shaky but I had made my decision.

"I will not let anything happen to you." Godric promised solemnly.

"Please don't let anything happen to Eric." I needed him to be okay.

A short while later Godric had fully explained the effects of me taking his blood. The benefits seemed to greatly outweigh the negative and right now I needed to be healed quickly. So I took one small sip and within minutes my body healed the bite wound and I felt full of energy.

"What now?" I asked eagerly.

"We wait to hear of Ocella's location" Godric replied.

Appius gathered us into one of the rooms in the creaky old mansion. He was pacing back and forth, clapping his hands with glee every so often. Pam and I sat down on a couple of musty old dining chairs.

"Children, children! It is time to fill you in!" He beamed and turned to face his tiny audience. The ceilings in the room were so high his booming voice echoed.

"I have great news to tell you. I will be taking up permanent residence here in the south and will be taking over the kingdom as well."

Pam looked mortified and I remained expressionless. I should not be surprised, his craziness knew no bounds.

"Well are you not excited for this adventure?" He questioned, bordering on flipping out. I could tell his smile was beginning to falter. If we did not agree he would have a fit.

"We are just… curious… to learn more…" Pam carefully stated.

"Ah, yes! My curious children! I have decided that vampires coexisting with humans is not the way. It never has been, we are meant to be the predators in this world. This new era of intermingling and TrueBlood disgusts me. In order to spread this new philosophy I must start somewhere, in this case the kingdom of Louisiana. I will take over here and slowly convert the entire country to my ways, state by state." He smiled and looked to us, waiting for cheers of joy most likely.

Pam was silent, I was not that smart.

"What the fuck?" I was driven mad by the idea that he wanted to slaughter humans without reason, that if this happened Sookie would likely be drained by some set of fangs like a juice box.

"You are more insane than I thought possible." I snarled and stood to my full height, towering over him.

"I will kill you before I let any of this happen. I will tear you to pieces and smile, because nothing could be a greater gift to your children than to watch you die." My fangs snapped into place and I lunged for him, feeling more like a bloodthirsty vampire than I ever had before.

I only managed to get a foot farther before the force of his command to not attack froze my movements. I could only get within a few inches of him before that magical force stopped me from doing physical harm.

Fuck. I forgot about his command when I lost my temper.

"You are such a coward, why don't you lift your command and see how much power you really have over me?" He was disgusting. He could not even face a newborn vampire in a fair fight.

"You ungrateful hick!" He bellowed at me. His beaming smile was gone and his face darkened with anger. "Your stubborn attitude will end. You think you can defy me? That you have any say in your life? I am your maker Eric and you will listen to me! I do not care how long it takes or what methods I have to use! But I will get you to listen and back me up on this plan without having to command you into it." He spat and then grabbed me by the back of my neck and started dragging me across the room.

Pam tried to intervene but one nasty snarl from Appius had her backing off. I did not blame her, he might kill her for trying to protect me.

Appius beat into my face with his knuckles when I tried to fight him off. By the time he had dragged me down into the dingy, partially flooded basement I was bleeding and had chunks of flesh missing. At this point I figured I would never have a normal life with Sookie, so what was the point? I refused to live under Appius' rule for eternity. I would defy this man until he killed me.

He tossed me onto the cement floor and my body ached as I landed in a puddle of old, stale water that had leaked into the basement. He quickly locked my wrists and neck with silver chains that I had not seen bolted into the wall. My fangs snapped down and I growled at the silver hit my skin, melting it on contact.

Appius leaned down to my kneeling form and grabbed my hair, yanking my head back so I met his eyes. "Every stallion thinks they will not be mastered by man, but it just takes finding the right method to break their spirit. You will be no different my child." He hissed then zipped up the stairs and left me alone in the dark basement, chained to the wall.
