Hello again! Sorry for the cliffie last chapter, but every good fic has at least one, so I figured I'd get it out of the way now. Please enjoy, as this is difficult, and let me know what you think.
Disclaimer: I do not own Darkest Powers (rather unfortunate, no?)

"The list is divided into two sections," he picked up a spare piece of paper and a pen and drawing a line through the middle.
"They're labelled 'successful' and 'failed'," he drew the appropriate labels, "and are then divided into subcategories. Successful only has two; survived and deceased." He drew in those also. "There are no deceased in this category yet." Kit swallowed thickly before continuing.
"Under 'failed', there are three," he drew the lines.
"Under observation," he wrote it down.
"Detained," he copied, his hands starting to shake. Here, he paused, looking around the group. Tori got impatient.
"Well? Hurry up, Kit!" she snapped. He jumped, but dutifully wrote down the last one. What it said made everyone blanch, including the ghosts.
"To be terminated."
Oh, wonderful.
*NOW*
"Who's on the list?" asked Asher, who looked incredibly curious. Chloe relayed the message to Kit, who sighed.
"Simon is labelled as 'Successful; Survived'," he stated, and Simon looked a little green.
"The rest of you, bar Charlie," he looked from Tori, to Chloe, to Derek.
"Are on the 'Failed; To Be Terminated' list," everyone broke out in angry, indignant yells, but Kit silenced them, looking at me sadly.
"Charlie," he said sadly, "is listed as 'kill on sight' on the bottom of the sheet."
You could have heard a single hair hit the table, it was so silent, as everyone stared at me. Simon looked sad, Chloe looked torn between triumph and tears, and Tori was blank. Derek, who knew exactly why I was to be killed on sight, just sighed and let me nuzzle into his side, searching for comfort.
Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Chester and Asher looking at me curiously. Without really thinking, I asked:
"Are Chester and Asher on the 'to be terminated' list, or did they die accidentally?"
The ghosts facepalmed.
"How do you know about them?" asked Chloe suspiciously, eyes wide. I snapped my head up. Whoops.
"Err…" I couldn't think up a decent excuse.
"Buggar," I swore under my breath. Chester laughed, which made me smile. Tori's foot tapped against the wooden floor.
"Waiting on an explanation, wolf-girl," she sneered. I growled at her.
"My black out four nights ago awakened a dormant ability," I said. Kit's eyes widened marginally, which didn't go unnoticed. Chloe looked between me, Liz, Asher and Chester. She looked hurt.
"Why didn't Liz tell me?" she asked, looking down.
"I asked her not to," I responded. She glared at me.
"There aren't supposed to be any secrets here," she snapped. I glared at her.
"If you want to know everything about me," I growled, and Derek bristled. I ignored him.
"Then you should tell me everything about you first."
"That's not fair!" she cried indignantly. I snorted in disdain.
"All's fair in love and war," I quoted. Tori smirked; apparently this amused her. Chloe looked stumped.
"At least tell us how you knew the names of Asher and Chester," said Kit, trying to defuse the situation, "they were with Chloe all night last night."
"They were the third pack EG lumped me with before dad rescued me," I said scathingly. I'd stayed with Asher and Chester for two weeks before I was taken away. I'd grown particularly close to Asher, who was the same age as me, during that time. Since I'd been three when he took me away, I cried for weeks over the loss of the best friend I'd ever made (apart from Derek, but I hardly remember him apart from his eyes and the feeling of pack and belonging safety he gave me).
"Could you answer my question?" I asked, somewhat desperate. If EG had killed them on purpose, then I'd show the idiots just what they created.
Kit sighed.
"Chester and Asher Parrington were terminated two weeks ago," he said. The two aforementioned ghosts studied my reaction closely. I single tear leaked down my face before my rage bubbled to the surface like an overflowing pot of water.
"I'm going for a walk," I said shortly, getting up and walking quickly to the door. Behind me, I could feel my pack from childhood (Derek and the two ghosts) following me as I made my way to the clearing where I spoke to Derek a couple of nights ago.
"It's ok, Charlie," said Asher gently as I started beating up a tree. I hit harder as he said it. He sighed.
"At least you can still talk to us," he said quietly. I stopped and looked at him. He was standing next to Chester, just behind Derek, and had a sad look on his face. I missed them both so badly; they were the only good, wholly good, memories I had from before Edison. Another tear fell from my eyes, which seemed to give permission to the others that were waiting there as I broke down.
Asher and Chester were at my side at the same time as Derek. As soon as they all touched me, Derek gasped.
I was too distraught to really care at that point in time.
~DEREK POV~
Charlie stopped beating up the tree for a few moments, teary amber eyes fixed on a spot just over my right shoulder where I assumed the two ghosts were. A single tear slid down her face, falling off her chin, and then the floodgates seemed to open. I was at her side in an instant, but as I touched her, an awareness I hadn't known before opened up. I gasped.
I could suddenly see two boys, one about the same age as me, the other the same as Charlie. They were touching her arms soothingly as I hugged her.
"Who are you?" I whispered to them. They looked up, surprised.
"The other wolf can see us?" the older asked the younger. I nodded. They looked at each other, then at Charlie.
"He can hear us too…" said the elder.
"I think it's because we're all touching Charlie," said the younger one. The older one moved away a bit, no longer touching my packmate, but I could still see him.
"You're still there…" I murmured aloud, and they stared at me.
"I'm channelling Charlie's necromancy ability so that you may talk to the only other members of what Charlie considers to be her true pack," said Jasmine's voice as Charlie's body stopped crying. The two ghosts looked rather stunned.
"Who are you and why are you in Charlie's body?" threatened the older one. Charlie's head lifted, showing the blue eyes of the half-demon.
"Don't you remember us, Chester?" asked Jasmine. 'Chester' narrowed his eyes.
"What are you doing in Charlie's body, Jasmine?" he asked, sounding very protective, eyes narrowed in suspicion. Jasmine laughed a high, tinkling laugh.
"How do you think Charlie survived at Edison?" she asked. 'Chester' glared.
"So that was your doing?" he asked, glaring. Jasmine cocked her head, eyes narrowed as she tried to remember.
"What do you mean?"
"Charlie was dragged off every other day for two weeks and experimented on before her dad rescued her. From what I gathered, you guys did some ritual that killed you and Charlie's eyes turned blue like now. What. Did. You. Do." He demanded. The younger ghost was glaring at Jasmine, who looked angry on Charlie's behalf.
"I told them it was a bad idea," she muttered angrily, standing up and beginning to pace, "but no one listens to the telepath. No, I don't know what they would do if it worked. I just know every thought and inclination in their heads!" her ranting was getting steadily louder.
"You protested the ritual?" asked the younger ghost, trying to get reassurance. Jasmine nodded.
"I did, but no one listens when you're one of the youngest," she said bitterly.
'Chester' looked thoughtful.
"Would we be able to join you?" he asked. Jasmine eyes widened incredulously. Apparently, you can't read a ghost's mind.
"You could," she said slowly, "why would you like to know?" 'Chester shrugged.
"I'd rather be in there," he said, "than out here." The younger ghost nodded firmly.
Jasmine sighed.
"Come here," she said, holding out both hands. Each ghost took one hand and held it firmly. Jasmine began to chant. Her voice started to layer as all the others joined in. I could hear Charlie's voice as an undertone.
The ghosts started to fade, and Charlie's body glowed. When the last of the two boys faded, Charlie's eyes flashed dark, nearly black, brown, then pale yellow-blue before they closed and she passed out.
~CHARLIE POV~
Jasmine took control of me for a while as I regained my composure. Just as I was about to demand to be let out again, she began to chant. Unable to resist, I chanted with her. Everyone in my mindspace did. Two new forms began to materialise in the centre of the circle we had unknowingly formed. Chester and Asher were standing in front of us, looking around in interest. I felt my body black out just as Asher said:
"Well, that's something you don't experience every day."
I couldn't help but laugh as I pulled him into a hug. He returned it eagerly.
It was so good to be surrounded by pack again.
Sorry, it's short. It has to be. That wasn't expected, but I think it works nicely. Besides, I just had an idea that needs Chester and Asher in her head for later.
Are you enjoying? Please let me know! Thanks :)
