Rocky point of view
"Promise you won't tell anyone?"
"I promise." I said. "So what's her name?"
Ty sighed, again hesitated for a second, before responding.
"Tinka Hessenheffer."
My jaw dropped as I watched the words leave his mouth. Did I hear that correctly? My brother, the "cool guy", and most popular boy in school, has a crush on Tinka Hessenheffer?
"Tinka Hessenheffer?!" I exclaimed in shock, as my eyes widened. "Are you serious?"
"Yeah, I kind of figured you have this reaction." Ty admitted.
Apparently, I DID hear him correctly!
"You have a crush on Tinka! I can't believe this! How long has this been going on?" I exclaimed.
"Well," Ty said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "I guess it started after we went on that date almost three years ago."
"Oh yeah, I remember that!" I said.
"Yeah well, that's not it. I tried to ignore it for a while, since it would probably never work out, since we're so different. But, eventually, something made it come back."
"What?"
"Well, you remember when you, Cece and Tinka were planning on leaving 'Shake It Up Chicago!' to work on 'Dance Factor'? And then I almost found out, so you covered it up by saying that Tinka had a crush on me?"
"Yeah, I remember that." I said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, well, I believed you, and I really liked the idea of her liking me. I remember I kept flirting with her and trying to get her attention. Eventually, I found out it was a lie, and, surprisingly, I was REALLY disappointed. I left her alone after that, but something just didn't feel right."
"So you want to be with her?"
"Absolutely. The only problem is that last time I tried to ask her out on a real date, she said that we were so different, so it probably wouldn't work out."
"Okay, I think I get it. I just have one question- what does this have to do with me?" I asked curiously, and slightly confused.
"Well, you and Tinka have become good friends over the past year, right? So you can talk to her, and give me some feedback. You know, find out what she's attracted to. Help me become better boyfriend material in her eyes."
"And if I do this all for you…" I said.
"…I'll let you and Logan go out again." He finished for me.
"Sounds like a plan!" I said.
"Thanks, Rocks. It means a lot." Ty said.
Then, he got up out of his chair, and we shared a small sibling hug.
Logan point of view
About ten minutes after Cece told me to come over, and ended the phone call, I was at the door to her apartment. I lifted my hand and knocked on the door. A few seconds later, someone answered the door. There stood Cece, with a concerned look on her face.
"Hey, Cece." I said with a small smile.
"Hey Logan." Cece said. "Come in."
I entered the apartment, and we both sat down on the couch.
"So let me get this straight." She said. "You got fired from 'Bob's Kabobs'?"
"Yeah." I said, with a low voice.
"But how?" Cece said. "You're so passionate about your job. In fact, your your so passionate about it that it sometimes makes me worried about you."
I chuckled at her response. "Yeah, I guess I sometimes took my job way to seriously."
"Yeah, you do. I should know. I had to work for you."
We both laughed.
"But seriously, Logan. What happened."
I sighed before I responded.
"Well, it's kind of a long story. Early this morning, I went over to the mall to get to work. But before I could, Mr O'Brien called me into his office."
"Who?"
"Mr. O'Brien. He's owns the food court."
"Oh okay." She said, nodding his head. "Continue."
"Well, like I said, I was called into his office."
Flashback
"Please sit down." He said, pointing at the small chair in front of his desk. I obeyed and sat down, as Mr. O'Brien sat down at his desk.
"Sir, is there something wrong?" I asked politely.
"As a matter of fact, yes, there is, Logan." He said
"What? Why? What did I do? Did I do something wrong?" I asked, now beginning to panic a bit.
"I guess you can say that." Mr. O'Brien responded. "Logan, you've been having some issues lately. You've been arriving late for work every day-"
"I can explain! You see, my dad-"
"I wasn't finished, Mr. Hunter." He said in an angery tone.
"I'm sorry, sir." I said. "Continue."
"Well like I said, you've been arriving late for work every day, and you're starting to become lazy with putting together kabobs."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, for one thing, the order for the kabob is chicken, onion, pepper, tomato, chicken, pepper, tomato, onion, chicken."
"Yeah, I know."
"Well, apparently you don't. Because you've been doing chicken, pepper, onion, tomato, chicken, pepper, tomato onion chicken."
"What? No I haven't!" I exclaimed.
"Apparently you. That's what we've been hearing complaints from customers."
"But that's ridiculous! Why would I do chicken, pepper, onion, tomato, chicken, pepper, tomato onion chicken when I know it's chicken, onion, pepper, tomato, chicken, pepper, tomato, onion, chicken?"
"That's what I was wondering." He said.
"Sir, listen, I-"
"No, you listen to me, Mr Hunter." He said, sternly. "I'm sorry, but this behavior is unacceptable for a manager of a kabob court. I'm afraid I'm going to have to give your position to another employee."
"WHAT?!" I yelled. "You can't do that!"
"Yes, I can. I own this food court, and I'm in charge around here." He exclaimed. "This conversation is over. Now get back to work."
"No!" I said, getting up out my chair.
"Mr Hunter-"
"Listen! I work hard to make kabobs everyday! I'm the best employee at that food court, and you know it! I've worked for you for almost two years as manger, and this is how you repay me? By giving my position to some random employee? I'm one of the best workers you got, and I'm not going to sit here and listen to you say otherwise!"
Mr. O'Brien stood there for a second, just staring at me. Then he sighed, and responded.
"Okay. I won't take away your position."
I sighed with relief. "Thank you so much sir!"
"Instead I'll just take your job away entirely." He said. "You're fired!"
I felt my heart drop, as well as my jaw.
"What?! But I-"
"No buts. Turn your uniform in, and leave the mall now."
"Sir, I'm sorry! I shouldn't have said that! I promise I-"
"This discussion is over. You may leave."
"But-"
"I said you may leave!"
I sighed, and slowly turned, and exited the office without a look back.
Flashback over
"That's pretty much it." I said, rapping up the story.
"So let me get this straight." Cece said. "He was going to take away your management position because you got a few ingredients mixed up, and then fired you when you tried to protest?"
"Pretty much, yeah."
"Wow… the kabob industry is so strict! So glad I quit that place."
"Cece, you didn't quit, I fired you."
"Tomato tomateo." Cece said. "But seriously, that guy is an idiot. You're the best kabob manger I've ever met… and also the only kabob manger I've ever met, but that's not the point! Logan, I'm really sorry about all this."
I turned my head towards her and smiled. "Thanks, Cece."
We both leaned in and shared a hug. Everything has been so different since we made up a week ago. We've been spending a lot more time together, and we've been getting closer. It's been really nice.
After a few seconds, we pulled apart.
"Hey, you know, I'm not going to be in next week's dance on 'Shake It Up Chicago!'." Cece said. "If you want, we could hang out, and try to find you a new job."
"Yeah, that sounds great!" I exclaimed. "Thanks, Cece."
"No problem."
"Hey, it's almost noon. Want to go to Crusty's and get some lunch?"
"Yeah sure, let's go!"
And with that, she grabbed her coat, and we headed out the door.
