Things were going as perfectly as planned. I pull out my iPhone and check the globe. Pitch hardwired his own globe from his caves into a computer version so we could see it whenever. Lights were going out in our part of the globe. I knew I should be happy, but I felt just like the guardians. Deep down I knew I was doing this to protect our children, but I couldn't get out of my mind that maybe we were as bad as they were. Our plan was to render the guardians as useless as we could so they couldn't attack us or the children. I hated to do that to our old friends, but they weren't our friends any longer.
Suddenly, my phone went off. I take it out of my pocket to see Jamie's photo in the caller ID. Smiling, I swipe the screen and answer the call.
"Hello..." I start, but I don't finish. I hear him deep breathing and the car running, I knew something was wrong.
"Jack, they found Sophie and I. I don't know whether they know about you..." he starts panting, but I interrupt him.
"Please tell me your messing around." I plead. "Just a second." I look to my class who are eagerly waiting for my instructions.
"Kids, start jumping jacks. Tommy, Please lead." I order the 9th graders. Tommy goes to the front of them and I hear the echo's of 1 2 3.
"What are you trying to tell me Jamie?" I ask him with urgency. He sighs on the other end.
"I'm trying to tell you that they know your here, somewhere." He starts to tell me, but I don't hear him. I freeze as my phone falls to the ground and brakes into a million pieces. The pounding of feet on the ground stop as everyone turns to me. I can't move or talk, but just stand there.
I quickly got excused from the school and got into my car. The engine revs to life and I push the pedal. The car lurches as I race home. Checking the dashboard, I see that it's 3:34. Good, I think with a smirk, my wife should be home. I loved Tooth, and she loved me. I know, a twelve year old and a fourteen year old in love, but it's true. I loved her more than anything, besides our children, of course. My knuckles turn white as I grip the wheel harder, I needed to keep them safe, no matter what.
Our driveway comes into view and I pull in. I climb out of the car and my heart sinks. There, sitting in the driveway, was a red sleigh. I look ahead like I can't see anything. The pavement thumps because of feet, but not mine. I pretend not to hear them, and continue walking.
" He must not be him." I hear Bunnymund's voice behind me. I smirk." maybe he's just old." By then, I've walked into my house and they have left. They didn't think it was me, which was good.
"Tiana?" I shout into the almost empty house. A scream is heard from the kitchen and I start running. There, under the table was Tooth. Tears were going down her cheeks as she looks to me.
"Jack." she cries.' you scared me. I.. I saw them and..." but I hush her as she cries into my shoulder.
"they left, they didn't recognize me." I assure her. She wipes her eyes and looks into mine.
"But how long before they do?" she asks. My brow furrows. I didn't know how to truthfully answer her so instead I say:
"We'll just make sure they don't." I lead her upstairs and tuck her in, and she instantly falls asleep. I stroke her hair. Sighing, I wonder how we'll survive this. The moon will surely kill us once he finds us. But I couldn't let him do that, not to my family. I get up and turn around to see my daughter, Jessalyn, standing in the doorway. She stands on her tiptoes trying to look over me to her mother.
"What's wrong with mom?" she asks with worry. In truth, the kids have never seen us in despair, so I knew why she was worried. I smile and shake my head.
"Nothing, just a long day." I tell her as I embrace her. I frown as she hugs my neck. I hate lying to my kids, but it was for the best. I pull back from her and kiss her cheek as she smiles at me.
Man-In-Moon stares at me with a sinister smile. I growl at him and he frowns.
"Now, Now, Jack. You wouldn't want me to hurt your family, now would you?" he asks me. I gasp as my family stands in front of me screaming.
"you wouldn't, you can't hurt my children." I yell. Manny smirks and lifts up his staff.
"But not really children, they are hybrids, worthless. Not of use, I don't care for them. Them believing doesn't count." he calmly states swinging his staff back in forth. HE gracefully holds it in his hands, then lifts it up and strikes Jakob. He screams and I shut my eyes with tears welled up.
"Kill them all." he st
ates and Sandy strangles them in sand.
I jump up out of bed. The covers are around me, but I don't remember going to sleep. I tousle my white hair with a hand and look to the clock: twelve p.m. Tiana stirs beside me and sits up rubbing her eyes.
"What is it?" she asks. I still haven't told her about what Jamie told me, but I didn't want to worry her more. But, deep down, I new I had to tell her.
"Tooth, Jamie called me today." I start. She squints her eyes in the darkness.
"What about it?" she asks in a tired voice, then yawns. I take a deep breath.
"The guardians know were here somewhere." I answer. She chokes on an intake of air and starts coughing. I hug her and pat her back as her coughing fit dies down, but they soon turn into sobs.
"What are we going to do?" she asks, her chin in my shoulders. I sigh and rub her back.
"I'm not sure, darling. I'm not sure..." then I Stop. I knew the perfect way to drive them off our trail. "Actually, I know something that we should do." I tell her. I tell her my plan carefully and she nods her head every now and then. I know she didn't like it, but she also knew there wasn't another way. Her heart starts beating normally as she starts to calm down.
"Well, anything else we need to take care of?" she asks in a joking manner. I look away dramatically and close my eyes.
"Yes," I start to turn my head quickly to look at her, " I need a new cell-phone."
Guys, I am sorry this took so long. I have been going through a lot of shit. I know that's not an excuse, but I'm going to try to update more. And, after all this time, I know it's short and I'm sorry for making you guys wait so long for this, but it would have taken me longer if it was longer. And please, if your still reading this story, review to let me know you still read this.
