Chapter 4: Ambush

I am sorry that I took so long to post this chapter. I know I am inconsistent, and I am working on it. Sometimes I get writers block or something personal happens. Well, I hope you enjoy this chapter.

I woke up, thankful without the headache I had fallen asleep with. My bloody clothes had stained the bedding. That would be hard to excuse.

Then I remembered. I was a criminal. Well, at least I didn't have to explain the blood.

After washing off the best I could with a damp towel, I looked at the clothes. They were of high quality. Not silk or anything, but still good. When I had them on they felt good against my skin.

Glancing at the mirror, I saw that the sun was rather high up in the sky. It was about mid-morning. This meant that I wouldn't have to meet Oran. After our rather shaky parting yesterday, I was hesitant to approach him.

Leaving my room, I turned and locked the door. I hadn't the day before, but this time I didn't want anyone stumbling on my bloody clothes.

Heading downstairs, I smelled eggs. This kind of surprised me as it was mid morning. I didn't think anyone would be cooking.

Entering the room, the first thing I noticed was a big guy standing by the counter. He was clearly waiting for something. Probably the eggs.

I sat down in a table in the corner. I wanted to see anyone enter or exit the inn, but be far enough that no one noticed me. This was the perfect spot.

The waitress came over to me and asked "What would you like sir? We have fresh eggs, oatmeal, and some chicken from last night."

I don't know why, but I had a craving for some meat. "I'll have the chicken please."

"Yes sir," she said.

Waiting for my food, I studied the big guy. He was as big as a bear, and just as unruly. He had wild brown hair all over him, and looked like he hadn't washed since he was born.

When my chicken arrived I set to. It was nice and warm. The bird was a bit tough, but that was probably because it was from last night. Before long it was gone.

Just as I was finishing, the door opened. In walked a tall blond woman. She went straight over to the giant and whispered in his ear. He grunted and jerked his head in my direction. The woman nodded and walked up the stairs.

I wonder what that's all about, I thought.

Soon after that, the server came over. "Will that be all?" she asked.

"Yes. what do I owe you?" I responded.

"Nothing. Oran paid for you," She answered.

Well, why would he do that?

"Okay then,"

The server took away my dishes, and I went up stairs for my stuff. When I reached the top of the stairs, the blonde pushed past me. Don't ask me why, but she seemed angry.

When I got to my room I became just as angry. It was trashed to the point of being unrecognizable. The bedspread was slashed to strips, the curtain was in tatters, and worst of all, the clothes were torn and all over the place.

I didn't really care about the room, but I didn't want to run around with the same thing on all the time. That would make me recognizable. This would be a problem.

Just then, I heard shouting from the stairs. "This way, the innkeeper said his was the 5th room on the right,"

The voice was female. Just maybe it was the lady I had passed in the hallway. Was she working with the guard?

With no other choice, given that I was standing in a messed up room, I ran over to the window. Quickly opening it, I jumped off. Once I had landed, I ran over to the bush in the courtyard. I hid behind it.

Pushing the branches slightly so I could see, I looked up to my window. Standing there was the lady from the hall, confirming my suspicions. She was looking straight at me, though I couldn't be sure if she saw me.

"Constables! The demon is over here!"

Ah, crap.

I had to run. I turned to the streets, but I saw a huge, thick crowd. There was no way I would be able to go faster than the constables in that.

So, instead I climbed the wall behind me. I waited there for a second though, because the gap between the wall and the next building was just slightly too big for me to jump.

"Don't let him get away!"

Glancing over my shoulder, I notice that more constables were flooding the courtyard. They were pointing and shouting at me. "Stay right there… Don't jump… Get him!"

Having no other choice, unless I wanted to get hanged, I jumped.

The wind zoomed past me, ruffling my hair. I was so surprised at how far and fast I had jumped that I stumbled and tripped when I landed.

'Did I really just jump that far?' I thought. Turning back I saw that I had jumped three houses.

Stunned, I stood there like an idiot for about five seconds. That was when the consequences of what had happened hit me. I could jump three houses.

Doubling over, I started laughing. The lady had called me a demon. Maybe I was, but it was exhilarating to think that I could jump that far.

Turning, I ran to the edge of the building. Still laughing, I jumped again. Again, wind rushed past me, and the surroundings blurred. Next thing I knew, I was five houses from where I was before.

I continued jumping from rooftop to rooftop, sometimes getting as many as seven houses from my starting point. I had long ago lost the constables, so I was just enjoying myself now.

Eventually, I ended up at the wall. I stopped and sat on the roof I was at. Looking at the wall, I wondered if I could jump over it.

Then, my thoughts turned to the constables. They most definitely thought I was a demon now, even if they hadn't before. That gave me no other choice, I had to leave the city.

Just as I was about to get off the roof and leave through the gate, I saw a younger constable run past. He was probably about 16, and had blond hair. I quickly hid.

The guy ran up to one of the guards on duty. Speaking very quickly, the constable explained something. I only caught the words "demon," "high magi," and "jumped,"

That was all I needed to know I couldn't go out the city that way. But how was I supposed to get out? I could jump over the wall maybe, but I didn't want to do that until I knew I couldn't do anything else.

Sneaking closer to where the guards were, I listened to them talk. Maybe I would hear them say a way through the wall.

"...and I said let 'im have it. I wanted my money, see…" one of the guards was boasting.

"Alright men, no time to mess around. We need to check all the holes in our wall. Apparently a demon got in and managed to kill the High Magi. We need to capture and interrogate him, see who he works for. Don't make any mistakes, or I'll have your head."

Ouch, that's harsh. Especially when I don't intend to be captured.

The men grumbled but they did what they were told. They spread out, leaving the captain to protect the exit. Which was a good thing for me, as it meant I only had to get rid of one person.

I waited until the guards had gone far enough so that they wouldn't see, and leapt on top of the captain.

"What the f…!" was the only thing he managed to say before I bashed him on the head. He slumped unconscious.

Shaking my hand(you try hitting a steel helmet bare handed) I walked towards the gate. Looking around, I made sure nobody was watching before dashing towards the forest.

I can't freaking believe that I took this long to upload. How long has it been? Half a year?

I am really sorry about this. I just hit massive writer's block. I just decided to cut it here and make a shorter next chapter.

Also I will answer a couple of questions. First one by Timberwolf1337, this is after Starcraft 1 and 2. Ddragon21, he will get an exoskeleton and a few other things. No wings though. Also the split mind thing is because of the fact that he had some terran and protoss genetic information in him, and Abathur had to cut it out.

Lord Narmo, he was in there for 1000000 years, which is the maximum he could be there for. This is a plot thing. Also, Kerrigan will not be in the story, that was just background. Though I may have Kevin remember things…

Guest, that was rude. The reason it is like this is because Kevin is still figuring things out. Can't have the audience knowing too many things now can I.

That is it for all the questions I have so far. Hope you like this chapter. Goot bah.
