Quinn felt numb.

She ended that phone call with Mike few moments ago yet she hasn't even move from the cafeteria table where Sam left her. She knew her daughter was looking for her but she couldn't bring herself to move.

There were lots of things going through her head at the moment and a certain someone caused it.

Sam Evans.

When he came earlier to bring her some clothes to change and had breakfast together, Quinn thought that it was him being a nice and sweet 'boyfriend'. When he handed her his credit card to pay for Melrose's hospital bills, Quinn thought that it was him trying to help her. When he mentioned that he wanted them to adopt Melrose, Quinn thought that it was him wanting to start a family with his girlfriend.

But when he said he loves her, Quinn thought that she was in a very deep trouble.

Ever since knowing the concept of adoption and also knowing that her parents gave her up after they named her, she felt so lost. She felt that no one, not even her own parents love her. Her parents didn't want her. That was why they gave her up. And that prove enough that they didn't love her.

She knew that the Changs love her. She knew they adopted her because they wanted a little girl on their own and they (including Mike) loved her as if she was their own. That didn't change even a bit when Claire was born a year after Quinn was adopted and until now after Quinn had Melrose.

She also knew with all her heart and soul that she loves Melrose. She is her daughter and she's sure that Melrose loves her too. Even though she still didn't know (and didn't want to know) who was Melrose dad, Melrose was the only biological family she knew and she had. There was no way that Quinn didn't love her daughter.

The Changs and Melrose were her family. She felt fine throwing the words 'I love you' to them and hearing those words from them because she had known them her entire life.

But Sam was just a stranger.

Sure she hooked up with him a couple of times already in the past few days she stayed in 'their' townhouse but she wasn't really being herself. Well sometimes she just acted the way she usually act but she was still pretending to be her 'twin sister' Lucy Fabray, which happened to be Sam's 'fiance'.

She barely knew him, she barely knew about his relationship with Lucy (except the one that he mentioned over the breakfast earlier), yet she trapped in this situation where Sam said that he loves her out of the blue.

She knew that Sam said those words to 'Lucy', not to Quinn. But she would never admit out loud that she actually liked it. She was taken aback when he said that, but on the inside, she felt conflicted. A part of her felt happy and giddy, another part of her just felt confused about everything.

She recalled the phone conversation with Mike earlier after Sam left.

"He said he loves me…"

The silence between them was painful. Quinn was about to hang up when she heard Mike muttered a weak, "Wow…"

She sighed. "Is that all you can say?"

"I… I don't know. That was something really unexpected."

"I don't need you to tell me that," she scoffed.

"Look, Quinn. You need to stop this before it's getting even more dangerous."

Quinn rolled her eyes. "Do you think there's gonna be something even more dangerous than that?"

"Quinn—"

"Just… just give me a minute. Tell Melrose, I'll be there soon."

She hung up after that and now, even after more than just a minute, she was still on the same spot.

Hearing a stranger said that he loves her sincerely was indeed nice. But she was confused. What should I do now? She never meant to mess around with Sam's feeling. Now that he told her that he loves her, she didn't know what to do next. But one thing she knew for sure, it's too late to back out now.

Quinn opened the door to Melrose's room and found her little girl sleeping. Quinn walked to an empty seat on the side of the bed. She looked exhausted and a bit lost, and Mike definitely could see that something was bothering her.

"You okay?" Mike asked. He knew what happened earlier between Quinn and Sam, and to be honest, he was quiet worried about his sister.

Quinn shook her head. "How is she? Is she ready to go home?"

Mike ran a hand through his hair. "You do know that we should pay all of her bills first before the hospital can discharge her, right? I know you've been working your ass off to earn money for the past two months when you left but I also know that you didn't earn that much."

Quinn was about to open her mouth when Mike beat her to it.

"Look, Quinn. We would love to help. By we, that means me, Mom, Dad, Claire, and even Tina. But the hospital bills are too expensive. We still need more money," he paused. "I don't think we can bring her home today."

"Mike, relax. I settled that already."

Mike's eyes went wide. "What do you mean?"

Quinn didn't say anything. Instead, she fished out a card from her pocket and shoved it to Mike's hand. Mike studied the card for a while and his eyes went even wider when he realized that it was Sam Evans' credit card.

"You stole it?"

The blonde girl rolled her eyes. "Seriously?"

"But… how?"

Quinn sighed. "I was planning to use Lucy's paycheck, you know. I had it yesterday before you called. It was a kinda great amount of money. But it's still not enough to cover everything. And Sam… he kinda knew that something was bothering me. So, I told him that 'the orphanage' was kinda short on money and that I want to help. And the next thing I know, he shoved his credit card to my hand and told me to use it. He didn't accept any protest that I had."

"He gave you his credit card just like that?"

Quinn nodded. "Just like that. I don't know how to thank him… He was so nice to Melrose, even though he didn't even know her. He donated his blood for her and now he was paying for her hospital bills…"

"That was almost like what a father would do for his daughter, you know."

Quinn felt dizzy. "Well… he did mention that he wanted to adopt Mel…"

"WHAT?"

Quinn shushed him while smacking his arms lightly. "Tone it down! You'll wake her up!"

"I'm sorry! But you have to admit that it was shocking! I'm surprised you didn't have a heart attack after he said that."

"That got me panicked you know. But what he said next was the one who made me feel like my heart stopped beating…"

"When he said he lo—"

"You don't need to repeat that!" she stopped Mike before he could even say the word. She sighed before she continued, "It shouldn't bother me… I was just playing a part, as Lucy. He said those words to 'Lucy', not me. But I don't know…"

"Maybe… because you're starting to feel something for him?" he raised an eyebrow.

"That's not possible… we've only known each other for a few days."

"But you slept with him," he shrugged.

"And how is that gonna affect with my feelings for him?" She couldn't help but asked.

"I don't know," he shrugged again. "Did he say anything else beside the L-word?"

"Well, he told me that it was an arranged marriage. For two years they've been together and live together, but they've never been this close before. He said that both of them were trying to love each other but a few months ago, Lucy kinda pushed him away. He said that even though he and 'Lucy' only had a rather normal relationship for a few days, he was sure that he loves her…"

Realization hit Mike. Sam never did love Lucy. The person Sam fell in love with was…

"Hey Quinn?"

"Yeah?"

"What if I tell you that Sam didn't love Lucy, but he loved the 'Lucy' he's been spending time with this past few days and we all know that it wasn't Lucy but it's you?"

Quinn tried to decipher what Mike meant for a moment. When she realized what was Mike trying to tell her, she threw up.

"Mommy! Mommy! I have to show you my new sheep lamp!" The little girl said as she dragged Quinn to their bedroom at the Changs' house.

"Slow down, sweetie. You need to be careful."

Quinn could tell that her daughter was excited to have her back at home. For a kid who was just in a car accident the previous day, Melrose was too energetic. She got some stitches so Quinn was worried.

Melrose opened their bedroom's door and pulled Quinn directly to the bed. She crawled across the bed to the bedside table and pulled her new sheep lamb.

"Mommy, look! It's pretty, isn't it?" she showed the lamb to her mom.

Quinn took a look and said, "It's pretty! Who bought you this, sweetie?"

"Aunty Claire!"

"Did you say thank you?"

"Yup," the little girl nodded. "I like it so much!"

"I can tell," Quinn smiled at Melrose.

"Mommy, you okay?" Suddenly her daughter asked, looking a bit worried.

"I am fine, why?"

The truth was Quinn didn't know. After she threw up, she felt like her energy was drained. She threw out all of her breakfast, so her stomach was practically empty. It wasn't like she was going to show it to her daughter though.

"Are you sure? You look a little green…"

"Really? Maybe Mommy needs to lay down a bit. Come snuggle with me, sweetie."

"Okay…"

The little girl nuzzled her head in the crook of Quinn's neck. Quinn kissed her forehead gently and drifted of to sleep when she heard Melrose opened her mouth.

"You're going to stay with me right, Mommy?"

Quinn opened her eyes immediately. She knew she was going to lie to her daughter but Melrose's voice was full of hope and she didn't have the heart to do that.

"Mommy?"

"I… uh… Sweetie, don't be mad at me, okay? I—"

"You're leaving again?" her voice cracked and tears started to form in her blue eyes.

"Not exactly." Quinn sat up and pulled the little girl on her lap. "Melrose Arianna Fabray, listen to me," she said as she cupped her daughter's cheek. "I love you, okay? And me leaving you don't mean that I don't love you. I have work to do and I'm working for both of us."

"But you're leaving…"

A single tear went down on the little girl's cheek and Quinn wiped it right away. "Hey, sweetie. Don't cry, okay? I'm not going to stay here at night but I'll come to play with you everyday. How's that sound?"

"We can play together at the park?"

"Yes, we can."

"Okay," she said as she kissed her mom's cheek. "I love you, Mommy."

Quinn kissed her head. "I love you too, my baby."

Quinn went back to the townhouse around 6pm. She promised Sam that she'd be back for dinner. She still didn't know what to do next now that Sam those words so she was just continue to play her part. At least for now.

She went in and found Sam sitting in the living room. His suit and tie were gone, and he was wearing a t-shirt and shorts.

"Hey," she greeted him.

"Hey, beautiful," he approached her and kissed her lips.

Quinn, who were already tired from all the event that happened earlier that day, just melted herself in his kiss. At the moment, she didn't even care that the whole 'I love you' debacle had bother her.

Sam broke the kiss but still holding her close. "Are you okay? You look a bit pale," He said as he examined Quinn's face.

"I'm fine…"

"Baby, don't lie to me. You okay?"

"Just… a bit tired," she shrugged.

"You sure?"

Quinn nodded. "I'm just gonna take a bath, okay?" she said as she stroke his cheek.

"May I join you?" he smirked.

And Quinn wasn't really in the mood to fool around. "Sam, no…"

"Come on, baby. We have time before dinner…"

"Just… no," she said as she freed herself from his embrace and made her way towards the bathroom.

"Hey, baby?" Sam called her and made her stop.

She turned around and said, "Yeah?"

"I love you…"

"I… uh… I'm going first, okay?"

Sam brought his gaze down. "Still not going to say it too, are you?"

Quinn sighed. "Sam…"

"I know, I know… Be ready for dinner, kay? Just dressed casual, I'm going to cook for you."

Quinn just nodded and Sam dragged himself to the kitchen. As she made her way to the bathroom, Quinn could felt her heart ache. She had hurt Sam, and without realizing, it kinda killed her too.
