Two weeks went by after that little incident with Melrose. In those two weeks, Quinn tried her best not to break down every time she was with either Melrose or Sam. Now that she knew who her baby daddy was, when she looked at Melrose, she only saw Sam's face. The same thing happened when she looked at Sam. All she saw was her daughter's face. And those sights enough to make her wanted to break down or throw up.
Not wanting to get scold by Mike and the Changs, she still showed up at the Changs' place everyday but she only stayed for a very short time. Usually, she went there after breakfast and Sam left to the office. There, she played with her daughter and ate lunch together. After that she went back to the townhouse and spent the rest of her day waiting for Sam to get home and spent her time with him.
Now that she spent more time with both Melrose and Sam, she could make out some similarity between those two. She found out that not only Melrose had her dad's eyes and lips, she also had some of his traits. Like how she was so stubborn, just like her dad. Not that Quinn was complaining though, but it was just reminded her that Mel's dad existed and she lived with him now.
Quinn was sure that she and Sam became closer than before. Sam still thought that she was Lucy but it didn't bother her. Sam was being more affectionate. If the first week was all about having sex, they spent their night with talking and cuddling now. Just enjoying each other's presence. Well, there were some nights when they were engaged in a love making session but it wasn't their priority now.
And just as Quinn thought everything went smoothly like how she planned, Sam dropped another bomb for her.
It was Friday. Quinn was just arrived at the townhouse when she saw Sam already seated on the living room couch, reading some random sport magazine.
"Hey, baby," she greeted him.
Sam looked up and smiled when he saw who was standing in front of him. "Hey, baby," he said as he put down the magazine and stood up, walked towards her. "So… we're each other's baby now?"
Quinn giggled. "I don't see why not… or maybe you preferred a more manly nickname?"
"Nah, baby is fine for me. I'm not picky," he wrapped his arms on her waist, pulled her closer, and kissed her lips gently. "Where have you been?"
Quinn smiled through the kiss. "Just… walking around." Playing with your daughter, she added on her mind. "And I just noticed that you're home early. Any special occasion?"
"That's… what I'm going to ask you. Are you up for a date tonight?"
"A date? Yeah, I'm fine with that. Where are you planning to go?"
"There's a party at my dad's office with his colleague—"
"Wait, what?" Quinn felt like she was going to pass out when she heard that. There's no way she was going to that party.
"Look baby, I know you don't like going to that kind of party but we really need to go this time," he tried to reason with her.
Oh Thank God Lucy didn't like going to these parties too, she felt relieve secretly. But still, she couldn't go. "May I ask why?" she crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"Your parents can't come because your mom's still not that healthy so we need at least one Fabray to come," he explained but then furrowed his eyebrows. "Wait… your mom didn't tell you this?"
Quinn's eyes went wide. "No. She must've forget," she tried to speak very calmly. She remembered that her 'mom' had called her earlier but she didn't pick up the phone. "So… who's going to be there?"
"Family wise only my parents and us. The rest will be Dad's colleague," he answered. "So… will you be my date to the party?"
Quinn smiled at his sincere face. Instead of answering, she leaned in and gave him a kiss on his lips. "Let me take a shower and get ready, kay?"
He returned the kiss and smiled. "Sure. Take your time, by the way. It's only 4.30 and we'll leave at 6."
Quinn walked to the bathroom and began showering. Two weeks ago, when she mentioned about taking a shower, Sam would insist to take it together. Now, he just let her took the shower first, then he took the shower when she finished. Quinn enjoyed the change between them. It was like they finally found the dynamic of living together.
She emerged from the bathroom around twenty minutes later and greeted by the sight of an-already-half-naked Sam sitting on their bed.
"The bathroom is yours, Mr. Evans," she said as she walked pass him towards their closet. When she heard no movement, she turned around and saw Sam starring at her. "What?"
"I just don't understand how can you be so beautiful when you're just out from the shower…"
Quinn felt her cheek went red. "Thank you…"
"Anytime," he smiled. "Well… I'm going to shower first," he said as he stood up.
After Sam went to the bathroom, Quinn began to search for a decent dress to wear. It was easy though. Lucy wore dresses almost all the time; that was what Quinn has learned the past three weeks she was posing as her late twin sister. It didn't surprise her that Lucy had lots of beautiful dresses to wear. She settled on the broken white dress that wrapped her body perfectly. The dress fell under her knees. She looked at the mirror and thought, Well, no one would know that I'm not Lucy with this look, right?
She went to put on some make-up. Sure, she was the tomboy one but she still knew how to put some. Just as she began to do something with her hair, Sam came out from the bathroom.
"Looks like I'm going to wear my white button-ups to match you tonight," he said as he walked to the closet.
"You don't have to match me though," she said as she curled her hair with the curling iron she found earlier. "You'll look good in whatever you wear."
"Nah, I want to match you today," he said as he wore the said article of clothing and his black pants. "Care to help me with the tie?"
She put the curling iron down, she was done with it anyway, and said, "Of course. Come here."
Sam came closer to her and handed her the tie. She began to fiddle with it and within a minute, she managed to do it perfectly. "There you go, handsome."
"Thanks. You look super beautiful too," he smiled as he kissed her cheek.
"Thank you. I'm done by the way, just need to grab those stilettos and purse then we're ready to go," she said as she walked back to the closet.
"We're still a bit early but I think we can go now."
"Then let's go."
Arriving at the party, Quinn could feel her hands were sweating. She was damn nervous about this. She was okay with lying to Sam about her identity. But there was a big chance, well 100% chance, that she would meet his parents and she had to lie to them. She didn't like it even a bit.
As both of them stepped out from the car, Sam came to her and laced their fingers together.
"Are you okay, baby? Cause I kept seeing you fidgeting in the car," he asked worriedly.
Quinn cleared her throat. "No, I'm fine. It's just… you know I don't like it, right?"
"I know that and I'm sorry that I forced you to come tonight. I promise that we'll get out of here as soon as my parents don't need us to be here anymore, kay?" he said as he rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb.
"No, it's fine. Really."
"If you say so… You look breathtaking, by the way."
"Thank you. Let's get in, shall we?"
The two of them walked hand-in-hand towards the party hall. Soon, a blonde man and woman approached them. Looking at them, Quinn figured that they must be Sam's parents.
"Mom! Dad!" Sam greeted them. He let go of Quinn's hand briefly to hug his mom.
"Samuel! Good to see you, son," she said as she hug her son. The elder blonde woman spotted Quinn next to Sam. "Lucy darling, you look so gorgeous today," she said as she shifted her attention to the blonde girl and hugged her.
Quinn was surprised but she returned the hug anyway. "You too… em… Mrs. Evans," she said. She wasn't sure of what to call her. She didn't know how Lucy addressed her soon-to-be mother-in-law. So she went with the safest choice.
"Oh darling! How many times that I have to tell you this. It's Mary, darling."
Quinn smiled. "Sorry about that," she said then she turned to Sam's dad. "Mr. Evans," she greeted.
"It's Dwight, Lucy," the elder blonde man chuckled but he went forward to hug Quinn nonetheless. "You look dashing."
"Thank you."
"See, baby? You're the most beautiful girl in this room and my parents acknowledge that," Sam grinned.
Quinn felt her cheek went red. "Stop it…"
"Well, go mingle, you two. Enjoy the food too. We have to greet the other colleague," Dwight said as he and Mary left Sam and Quinn alone.
"So… wanna eat something? I'm starving," Sam said as he intertwined their fingers again and began to lead Quinn through the crowd.
"You're always starving. Let's just find what they have tonight."
They made their way to the buffet and started eating. In between, they had a little chat. They also greeted some of the colleague that apparently knew Sam and without hesitation; Sam introduced Quinn to them as 'Lucy, my fiancé'.
Quinn smiled and greeted each of them. But on the inside, Quinn felt bad. What will happen when all of this ends?
Sam never left her side that night. When they were not holding hands, Sam put his arm around Quinn's waist and Quinn did the same. He stole a few kisses here and there too. Quinn was sure that they looked like teenagers in love. Well, Sam did, not her.
They were currently standing in a corner, sipping their wine when Mary came to them.
"Hello, you two. Enjoying the night?" she asked the couple. When she saw them nodded their head, she continued, "I'm sorry to interrupt but Sam, your dad wants to talk with you. Alone."
Sam contemplated for a bit before he said, "But what about—"
"Lucy will be here with me," Mary interrupted her son. "Is that okay, darling?"
"Of course it's fine," Quinn smiled at Mary then turned to Sam. "Just go. I'll be okay," she assured him.
"Okay, I'll be back in a flash," he said as he left to find his dad.
Quinn was secretly hoping that Mary would leave her after Sam left, but no such luck. True to her words, Mary stayed there to accompany her while Sam's gone.
"So, darling. Tell me. How did you do it, Lucy?" Mary asked.
Quinn was confused. "How did I do what?"
"You changed him, darling."
"I think… he's just the same?" Quinn was confused than ever. What exactly did Mary Evans meant.
"Look at both of you. You didn't realize this but everyone, especially me and Dwight can see it," Mary said. "Let me put it this way. There's something different in the way he looks at you, darling."
"Different? I don't think so…"
"Well… he looks at you like you're the only thing in this world that matters to him, like you're his everything. I never saw him looks at you this way before. Before, he was like 'Yeah, this is my fiancé. What do you expect?' But now… he adores you, darling. He's really in love with you."
Quinn didn't know how to respond to that. Just when she was about to opened her mouth, Mary beat her. "And the way I see it, you're really in love with him too. What changes between the two of you really? How did you do it, darling?"
Quinn was sure she was going to throw up when Mary said 'you're in love with him too' but she held that back. She cleared her throat and said, "I don't know. I mean, we've been in this situation for two years, right? I think it's bound to happen. We're just… getting closer than before."
Mary smiled at Quinn's explanation. "You know what, Lucy? I'm happy that it's finally happening. I hope you two could get married soon and blessed me with lots of grandkids."
Well, you have one already. Her name is Melrose and she's four years old. "Oh no… I don't think either me and Sam are ready for that," Quinn shook her head.
"Relax, darling. It's not like I want you and my son get married tomorrow. Just soon."
"Me and Sam are taking things slowly right now. But when it happens, you'll be the first one to know," Quinn assured Mary. She felt bad though. Mary seemed to like her very much and it killed her to imagine how would she reacted when she discovered that real Lucy was dead.
"Good. Love and cherish each other, darling. The love between the two of you is still early. More like an innocent love. But I'm sure it will get stronger and it will lasts. My son is a keeper, darling. You too, are a keeper for my son. Don't let go of each other, okay?"
Quinn felt like crying. Mary's words were sincere and she knew the meaning behind those words. "I don't know what to say… But thank you and yeah, I won't let him go," she said as she felt a tear on her cheek.
"Oh, darling. I didn't mean to make you cry," Mary said as she pulled Quinn into a hug. By the tone of her voice, Quinn could tell that Mary was about to cry as well. "Just do as I said, okay? Then I'm sure both of you will be happy for the rest of your life."
Quinn nodded her head and kept hugging Mary. Both of them were crying at that point and that was how Sam found them moments later.
"What happened here?" he asked confused.
Mary let go of Quinn and wiped her tears. "We're just talking. Right, darling?"
Quinn nodded and wiped her tears too. "Yeah."
"Then why are both of you crying?" Sam asked again, still confused.
"I'll tell you later," Quinn answered.
"Okay," he said then he turned to his mom. "I think we're ready to go."
"Well, I need to find your dad too, Samuel. It's nice having both of you here tonight and Lucy, it's really nice talking with you," Mary said.
"Yeah, you too, Mary," Quinn answered.
"I'll see both of you later," Mary said as she hugged both of them and then off to find her husband.
After his mom left, Sam took Quinn's hand and said, "Ready to head home?"
"Yup."
They were cuddling in their bed around an hour later. Quinn laid her head on Sam's chest, while Sam had his arm around Quinn's shoulder, rubbing her arm now and then.
"What are the two of you talking about? You and Mom?" he asked first.
"Just… how she and your dad noticed that something changed between us. She asked me how did I do that when I didn't really do anything. She also said that we looked so in love with each other and that we should love, cherish, and never let go of each other."
"She said that?"
"Yeah, why?"
"My dad basically said the same thing too…"
"Well your mom also mentioned that she hoped that we would get married soon and blessed her with lots of grandkids."
"Same thing… Hey, baby?"
"Yeah?" she answered as she looked up to see his face.
"I love you so much," he said as he kissed her lips.
"I… I love you too, Sam…"
"Really?" he asked in disbelief.
Quinn wanted to deny it so bad but after the talk with Mary Evans earlier, she knew that the elder blonde and also Mike were right. That Quinn fell in love with Sam.
She answered him with another kiss. "I love you."
At those words, Sam kissed her again. The kiss progressed so fast and before they knew it, their clothes came off and they made love with each other.
Quinn knew that it shouldn't be this way. Quinn knew that everything was wrong. But at the moment, she didn't really care. Sam fell in love with her and she fell in love with him. That's what matters right now. The mystery about the Fabrays could wait.
