Slamming his door, Sam went straight to his car and settled himself behind the wheel. He let out a breath, tried to clear his head. What was just happened? He was so confused. Everything was just perfect that morning and in just a few hours, it turned into a shipwreck.
It started when he left to Lima mall. The meeting ended earlier than he expected so he decided ditch the office and just went to the mall to buy something for Lucy. After all, his girlfriend still didn't feel really well so he wanted to make her feel a bit better by surprising her with flowers, a box of chocolate, and a book, something that she like a lot.
He strolled around the mall with a happy feeling when suddenly he saw Lucy at the same place. Isn't she sick? What is she doing here? Why didn't she tell me? He was about to call her when he saw a little blonde girl walked with Lucy and held her hand tightly. Who is that? He continue to watch them when suddenly the little girl called for 'Mommy!' and he heard Lucy said 'What's wrong, sweetie?' to the little girl. What the hell? Who is that girl and why is she calling Lucy 'Mommy'? Lucy didn't have a secret child, did she?
Curious, Sam decided to follow them from a safe distance so he won't appear like a stalker. He saw them approaching two Asians which—wait a second. He knew that guy! He was… what's his name? Mike! Yeah, Mike. He was the one at the hospital, right? Oh, so maybe Lucy wanted to spend time with that little girl from the orphanage. But why didn't she tell me? And why is that little girl called Lucy with 'Mommy'? Then he heard it. "Quinn, I think your daughter want some ice cream." Followed by 'Yes, Mommy! I want ice cream, please." And "We'll get that later, okay? We still need to find your school supplies first, sweetheart." Whoa, what? Who is Quinn? Why is he calling her 'Quinn'? That's Lucy, right?
Even more confused by now, he followed them to the stationary store and finally he could get a clearer view of them. That was Lucy, for sure. He knew his girlfriend's face and that was her. As for the little girl… no way. What—who—how—why is this girl looks like Lucy? Same hair color, same face… hold up. Why are those eyes and lips looks like mine? Who is this little girl?
Then he saw Lucy planted a kiss on the little girl's head. The little girl ran around a lot but she ran back to Lucy, knocked and hugged Lucy's legs and squealed 'Mommy' followed with a very cute laugh that sounded a lot like Lucy's laugh. Whoa okay, this is just nuts. He felt nauseous right then.
He finally had enough. He snapped a few pictures of them with his phone then dashed outside. He still stood in front of the store though when he decided to make a call to Lucy and guess what he saw. He waited for Lucy to pick up her phone as he saw the girl inside the store fumbled with her phone and answered her phone at the very same time when he heard Lucy answered her phone with an 'Hello'.
He felt dizzy right then. He just wanted to lay down on his bed and waited for Lucy, or whoever she was to come back to the townhouse and give him some answers.
And now there he was. God, this is so frustrating! Sam was about to start his engine when he saw Quinn walked out from the townhouse and left the keys under the rag. He was surprised that Quinn was actually followed his request to leave everything that belongs to Lucy inside the townhouse cause she already got rid of the sundress that she wore earlier and switched it into a t-shirt and jeans, something that he remembered that Lucy didn't own.
He continued to watch her as she walked away from the house. Her head was hanging low but he could see the tears that streamed down her face. She looked miserable but he couldn't care less at that time. He saw her stopping for while, trying to wipe her tears but it didn't really work cause it just kept falling rapidly. He watched her as she started to hyperventilate but he didn't do anything. Normally, he would come to her and tried to calm her down. But he was just watching her from afar. That girl is a liar. Why should I care about her?
He heard her saying some things like 'I need you', 'I'm sorry', and 'I love you' as she dropped her small bag and fell to the ground. He saw her entire body shaking and she put her arms around her own body, struggling to calm herself down. Why is she like this? She hurts me. She shouldn't react that way.
After a while, he saw her slowly standing up. She looked a bit calmer than before, but she was still crying. She took her bag and then started to walk away, this time without stopping again. Sam continued to watch her as she disappeared from his eyes. He shut his eyes for a second, let out a sigh and finally started his engine.
"How could you do this to me…"
Sam didn't really know what was happening in the next few hours. But he did know that he went to the train station to see the place where Lucy decided to end her life two months ago. He was just standing at the empty platform, trying to process everything, when a security guard approached him and asked if he was looking for someone. He just shook his head then left without saying anything.
He also knew that he went to the police station and made some lame lies about her cousin who was missing since two months ago and the last place she went before she stopped contacting everyone was the Lima station. The police then mentioned that there was an unknown girl who committed suicide at the train station around that time but they had buried her in the public cemetery. The police then showed Sam the CCTV recordings from that night that showed Lucy—he knew immediately that it was indeed Lucy- jumped off the platform and hit by the train. He felt his knees went weak then. The police then showed him the mug shot of that girl and after Sam identified it as Lucy, the police then took him to the cemetery.
And now there he was, standing in front of Lucy's grave with a bouquet of peonies in his hand, as he watched the caretaker put Lucy's name on the grave. After the caretaker done and left, the police left him alone too after sending some condolences. And when he heard the sound of the police car left, he finally found his voice back.
"I'm sorry, Luce. I really am sorry."
That was all he could say. He did feel guilty and somewhat responsible for her death. He thought that Lucy was pushing him away because she got tired of him when actually she pushed him away because she found out the truth about his long-lost first love and their love child. He did bug her with 'Are you sure you're not the girl I met in Florida?' a lot but he had dropped it for sometime. He didn't think that Lucy would remember that and actually came to that conclusion when she saw Quinn and Melrose.
He took a step closer to the grave. He kneeled and placed the peonies on top of the grave.
"Why did you keep all of this to yourself? Why didn't you tell me about it? If we talked about this, you won't end up like this… I won't end up like this. I feel like I'm a really horrible person here. Like… I hurt you but I also hurting myself by hurting your twin sister…" he paused as he ran his hand on his hair. "God, Luce, you're an aunt. I have a daughter with your twin sister. Quinn was my first love and for the past two months, when I was living with her, I fell in love with her… I thought she was you. You're so look a like but you're also different. It's crazy… I don't know… I just—I'm sorry, Luce… I'm really sorry…"
Sam was sure that he was going to break down right then but he tried to hold it back. He couldn't stay there any longer so he stood up and prepared to leave. But he didn't, not before he said this.
"How could you do this to me…"
Sam later found himself back to his townhouse. He was greeted by emptiness, something that never happened before. He didn't understand. Lucy often left for a 3-days-dance-camp with her company and also Santana and Brittany but he didn't feel any different. Right now though, this place felt so empty and Quinn only left the place a few hours prior. Is it because of Lucy? Or is it because of Quinn? Those questions were on his head the entire time.
He made his way to his bedroom. It surprised him that he found two phones on the bed. He knew that one phone must be Lucy's, so the other one must be Quinn's. Why did she leave it here? Is it on purpose or…?
He took Quinn's phone and opened the lock. He knew he was snooping around someone's privacy but he couldn't help it. He went to her photo gallery and found lots pictures of Melrose and some pictures of both Melrose and Quinn together. He observed it closely. Melrose looked exactly like Quinn. The hair, the face… but those eyes and lips… there was no denying that Melrose was indeed his daughter.
It reminded him at that time when Melrose was at the hospital. Quinn lied about their daughter being an orphan and that when he mentioned about adoption, Quinn freaked out. She brought up that they weren't ready to build a family at that time but now he knew the real reason. It was because Quinn didn't want him to find out about Melrose. That little blonde girl looked exactly like her, it was ridiculous. He would have noticed it immediately cause Melrose was the dead giveaway that she was not Lucy.
He continued to scroll down the pictures, looking for older pictures that would give him some information about Melrose's early days. There was some of it, but not as much as the recent pictures. Seeing those pictures made Sam's heart ache. Somehow, he wished that he could force Quinn to tell him her name and he told her his name that night so even when they separated ways the morning after, they could find each other if something like this happened. Imagine what could happen if they happened to know each other. Sam would've tried his best to keep contact with her and Quinn… she would've told him when she found out that she was pregnant. That way, he could be more involved with her pregnancy. He could accompany her to her doctor appointments; he could be there when she was in labor, he could be there helping Quinn to raise their baby girl… not missing four years like this.
Wait, he paused, this isn't supposed to be about Quinn. This is supposed to be me grieving about Lucy's death… Why am I here, thinking about Quinn? God, this is so frustrating and confusing!
He lied himself on the bed, trying to clear his mind when clearly it wasn't working at all. He needed to talk with someone, he just didn't know who he should talk to. No one knew about this… well, except maybe his parents. But it wasn't like he could talk about this to them. His mom would freak out. His dad would probably chew him out. But he had no choice. His parents were the only people who met Quinn before. Well, Santana and Brittany had but maybe his parents were the better choice.
After lying there for the next hours, the silence and emptiness became too much for him. He sat up, put Quinn's phone in his pocket, and then he headed out.
"Samuel! What a surprise! How are you? And where is Lucy?"
Mary Evans greeted her son with a warm hug. She was a bit confused though. Sam had called earlier that he would came over to his parents' house but he sounded... lost? Mary didn't know. Even more confused when she didn't see Lucy with him.
Sam hugged his mom back and kissed her cheek. "I… uh… can we get inside first? There's something I need to tell you and dad."
Mary released the hug and pulled her son inside. "Are you alright, Samuel? Are you fighting with Lucy? Are you breaking up with her and called off the engagement?"
"Mom, calm down, kay? I… uh… I gotta tell you everything but you need to stop making assumptions first. And I kinda want to tell you and Dad at once so I don't have to repeat it."
"What's wrong, honey? You're worrying me," Mary said as she pulled Sam inside to the living room where his dad was waiting for them. "Dwight, Sam is here," she called her husband.
Dwight, who was currently re-reading the newspaper, looked up. "Hey, son. What brings you here? Where the beautiful lady of yours?" he asked, referring Lucy as the beautiful lady of Sam's.
Sam sighed. His parents always love Lucy and he almost certain that after the party few weeks prior, his parents fell in love with her even more. How am I going to tell them this?
"Samuel?"
Sam took a glance at his parents and drew a deep breath. "Lucy's dead."
One second… two… three… and lots more seconds of silence came to the room. Dwight had a puzzled expression on his face while Mary's jaw dropped and looked like she was about to faint. Sam couldn't believe himself to blurt the information just like that.
After what it felt like eternity, Mary seemed to regain her voice. "What do you mean… are you serious, Samuel? When did it happen?"
Seeing her mom's expression, Sam didn't have the heart to tell them but he needed to do that. "Two months ago," he saw his parents wanted to interrupt so he held his hand up. "Before the two of you say anything, let me explain everything, okay?"
When he saw his parents nodded, Sam began to relay the story from the very beginning. From that fateful night five years ago to the event that just happened a few hours prior. He also told the story about how Quinn was the one that he met five years ago, that he thought Lucy was her, and that he had a daughter with Quinn. In between the stories, Sam could tell that his parents were confused and surprised. He heard his mom gasped several times, his dad rubbed his face just because he seemed frustrated, and Sam didn't blame them at all.
"So, yeah, that was what happened," Sam ended the story as he took another look at his parents' faces.
After a while, Dwight finally opened his mouth. "Wow, this is too much, Samuel. I'm sorry for Lucy. Are you okay?"
"I know… it's too much for me too, Dad. I—well, I felt sorry for Lucy too. I didn't mean any of this to happen. I'm just… I don't know, Dad. I feel fine but I'm just frustrated. This is so complicated and frustrating."
Mary stood up and made a move to sit next to Sam. She took her son's hand and said, "I'm really about Lucy, Samuel. I just… I don't know. Have you told Russell and Judy about this? Lucy and Quinn are their daughters."
"No, I haven't. How am I supposed to tell them about this?" he sighed. "Anyway, wanna see my daughter?" He pulled Quinn's phone out from his pocket, opened the phone gallery, and handed the said phone to his mom.
"I would love to, but are you sure that she's your daughter?" Mary asked as she took the phone. She looked at the pictures carefully and, "Oh my God… Dwight, you have to see this."
Dwight moved to his wife's side and looked at the pictures together. "She looks a lot like Lu—I mean Quinn, but she has your eyes and lips, Samuel. I mean, there's no denying."
"She's gorgeous, right?" Sam asked his parents.
"Oh God…" That was all Mary said as tears started forming in her eyes. "What's her name again, Sam? How old is she?"
"Mom, don't cry," Sam let out a small chuckle. "Melrose Arianna Fabray. She's four."
"Such a beautiful name. It fits her. Though it will sound better with Evans," Dwight commented. "What are you going to do now, son?"
Sam shook his head. "I have no idea… Mom, do you think it's weird that when I went to my place after I visited Lucy's grave, the one that came to my mind was Quinn?"
Mary gave her son a weak smile. "I think it's obvious, Sam. You love Quinn, you're in love with her."
"Wha—no! Mom, I don't… I don't love her!"
"Wait right there, Sam." Mary smoothed the invisible wrinkles on her skirt before continuing. "I just saw both of you a few weeks ago at the party. Both of you couldn't keep your hands of each other. You kept kissing her, not letting go of her hand. Even when I told you that your dad wanted to talk, you were hesitating about leaving her alone. I think, that's proof that you're in love with her."
"But I thought she was Lucy."
"But she's not. If you're thinking that she was acting, she deserves an Oscar cause really… I can see it in her eyes that she loves you too, Sam. I'm sure of that."
"I agree with your mom, son. I could see it too. And even just now, you were hesitating when you said you don't love her," Dwight said as he moved to sit next to his son and patted his back. "You'll be fine, son. All you need to do now is talk with Quinn. You need to sort whatever it is that happens between both of you. And I'm pretty sure you want to meet Melrose as much as we want to meet our first grandkid."
"I don't even know where she is…" Sam mumbled.
"You'll find her. I'm sure of that. If both of you were meant to be together, and if both of you really love each other, you'll find her and everything will be fine again," Mary assured him.
Sam just nodded. He really hoped that his mom's words were true cause seriously, he was really frustrated.
"Everything will be fine again."
Hey guys! Whoa, I can't believe it's been 20 chapters already ;_; As I said in the previous chapter, we've got to see what's going on in Sam's head. He was just confused and frustrated, but who could blame him? This chapter was really hard to write and I really tried my best. Hope that you'll enjoy it:)
RJRRAA: Hello there! Thank you for dropping by. Glad you like the previous chapter and as usual, I hope you'll like this one too :)
Guest: Hey there! Thanks for the review. I'm glad you like it. Hope you'll enjoy this one :)
Overgron: Hello there! Thanks for reviewing. I'm so sooooorrrrryyyyy for the wait. Got really busy (and a bit lazy) but I promise you that you'll get to see what happen next real soon. I kinda miss them being lovey-dovey too. I mean, I love writing fluff and writing such depressing chapters are hard. Things are still rough for them but good things will come for them who patiently wait ;) Anyway, glad you like the previous one and I hope you'll like this one too :)
Nicole: HEYYY GURL! Thank you for the review. I love Tike, they're my 2nd OTP and ugh, I just want them back together as much as I want Fabrevans again. Anyway, I'm glad you like it. We need to cool down a bit. The fight was really big for them and it's exhausting and frustrating. Still gonna be a bit frustrating since our babies were suffering but it will get better. Hope you'll enjoy this one too :)
Ashley: Hello there! Thank you for reviewing. I also hope that I can update this sooner. I wanted to update since a week ago but my laptop was acting up and it went crazy and I lost the already half-written chapter so I have to write this all-over again but no worries, it's here now! Ugh, trust me, I want them to just make up and kiss already. We'll get there, I promise. But there will still some things going on their way before we can reach that. Hope you'll enjoy this one too :)
Em: Hey there! Thanks for dropping by. I really hope they will fix this soon. I miss writing them being all lovey-dovey, not fighting like this. We'll get there, I promise. I'm glad you like it! Tike is my 2nd favorite after Fabrevans. And your wish is my command. This chapter is all about Sam but this is more like his inner struggle with his feelings for Lucy and Quinn but there's also a little bit about Mel too. Hope you'll like this one too :)
Kera: Hey there! Thanks for dropping by. I'm glad you like it and also the Tike part on that chapter. This chapter is all about Sam. As for when our babies will meet again, it will happen. But whether it will happen in the next chapter or not, I can't tell you that yet. Stick around ;) Hope you'll enjoy this one too :)
As usual, I want to thank everyone who read this story. Leave me some reviews. Tell me, what do you think about this chapter. Whether you like it or hate it. Any questions or criticsms are welcome too. Don't worry, I won't bite ;) I'll see you with the next update soon. See ya!
