She went out of the restaurant with her eyes trained on the floor. She had a weird feeling in the pit of her stomach which made her want to get in bed and just stay there. But that obviously, wasn't to be. In the lobby, she ran into a certain energetic blonde, "Hey Chin-sun!"
Chin-sun smiled up at him; his smile was contagious.
"Hey Jeremy!"
"Are you already done with breakfast?" Jeremy asked with wide eyes.
"Yeah," Chin-sun chuckled, "I'm heading if you don't mind."
Up in her hotel room, Chin-sun lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling yet again. Their flight was at 6:30 pm. She still had seven hours of hiding from Minam ahead of her. She rolled over in bed.
Why should she be hiding though?
Last night…was a drunken mistake. Really, nothing much had happened. Except for the part where Minam had tried to kiss her and she had complied. She had. She had wanted him to hold her closer, she had wanted to kiss him and not let go.
And she wasn't supposed to feel that way.
Because he was Minam the idol now; not her overprotective best friend. He had so much more to live up to now than just being her friend.
Go Minam lay in his bed with the blanket pulled over his head. No, he wasn't asleep. He just couldn't stop thinking about…Chin-sun.
The look on her face when she had walked away from him made his heart sink.
She didn't want him; Minam was pretty sure about that now.
He clutched the covers tightly. He hadn't been drunk last night; he could hold his alcohol well. But there had been a warm feeling running through his entire body which he could only say was the effects of alcohol. Minam was beating himself up in his mind for the umpteenth time now.
How could he be stupid enough to think that he could touch her that way? What was he, a teenager that couldn't keep his hormones under control?
He was trying to remove the image of Chin-sun's face from his mind but all his thoughts led back to the way it felt when he had hugged Chin-sun, the way her small body had fit in his embrace, how soft her chin was under his lips.
"Oppa?"
His sister's voice caused him to groan. Who had given her the right to barge into his room whenever he wanted?
Minam threw the covers off him and sat up in bed.
"What?"
"We are leaving for Shinwoo hyung's parents' place soon. Are you sure you don't want to come?" Mi Nyu asked tentatively; her brother seemed to be in a worse mood than usual.
"I am sure I don't want to go," Minam emphasized every syllable.
"O-okay then," Mi Nyu tried to smile, "then it will be just you and Chin-sun unnie."
"Chin-sun?"
Mi Nyu couldn't help but notice a spark in her brother's eyes as he repeated his friend's name.
"Yeah...we'll be leaving then."
Mi Nyu shut the door with an awkward wave.
Minam sighed.
He grabbed his phone from the bedside table and stared at the screen for a long time. He contemplated texting Chin-sun…
What the hell, it's just Chin-sun.
He quickly typed in a text and pressed the send button.
The two sat on the couch, the atmosphere unusually awkward.
Chin-sun cleared her throat. She had never before regretted hanging out with Minam and it would be safe to say that this way the first time. She was regretting accepting Minam's offer of 'just hanging out'.
But what could she do?
Her entire crew had gone off for sightseeing while she had said that she wasn't well and had stayed back. Hanging out with her over enthusiastic sunbaes would have been better.
Minam reached for the remote, bored by the crying actress on TV and coincidentally, Chin-sun had reached for the remote at the same time.
Instead of grabbing the remote, Minam grabbed Chin-sun's hand. The tension in the room grew and Minam quickly let go of her hand as if it burnt.
Chin-sun bit her lower lip.
This wasn't working. She took a deep breath.
"Minam…" Chin-sun started, her voice soft, "Last night…it's okay. I know you didn't mean it and- and I know both of us had quite a lot to drink and it—"
Minam cut her off.
"I know…it doesn't matter."
His heart was racing for some reason when he said those words.
And something inside Chin-sun's chest hurt when he said those words.
Minam continued, "It was a mistake and…you're…you're...Chin-sun."
God knew what he meant by that but Chin-sun thought she had interpreted his words well enough.
You're just Chin-sun…the girl that I somehow got stuck with when I was in high school…that girl I somehow became friends with…
You're just Chin-sun…my friend, nothing more.
Chin-sun let out a small laugh, she thought it sounded bitter.
"Let's just forget about it," she turned to Minam with a smile, "I wanna watch a variety show."
Minam shrugged and handed the remote to her.
"Whatever."
He leaned back on the couch and closed his eyes.
It was better this way, them as friends.
Because that was the way it had always been.
He would have to put up with wanting to hold Chin-sun and caress her cheeks for a few hours now.
Once they were back in Seoul, everything would go back to normal.
He wouldn't see Chin-sun for God knows how long and everything would be fine.
