Supplies and School
Over the following weeks, I became comfortable with living with the Malfoy family. Truth be told, over only a few weeks I had felt like I was more part of their family than I had ever been with the Bakers.
I tried to put it down to how the Malfoy's accepted me from the instant they saw me, but in reality I knew it was deeper than that, it was the magical connection or... bond that made me feel comfortable living in their home. I became happier, I wasn't completely unhappy in the muggle home it just never felt right, the way these things just do sometimes. I got used to the way the house often ran itself, the way that it felt so empty, yet so cosy. I got used to hearing Dobby screeching in pain as Lucius got ready in the morning for work.
It all became second nature to me, and it became that way in less than a month.
I stretched before pulling myself out of bed, yawning before getting dressed and going downstairs, a morning ritual that I had never done at the Bakers, there I waited for them to force me up and out of my bed.
'Kaeryn? Are you up? We're hoping to go shopping for all your school supplies this afternoon,' Narcissa called up the stairs.
I opened the door, 'yeah I'm up, on my way down now.' I liked how it felt here, the general atmosphere was inviting to me, and where Megan never really felt like a sister to me, Draco had quickly become a friend and a brother. I trudged downstairs and got breakfast.
Lucius had already gone to work, 'just for the morning,' Narcissa told me, 'then he'll be back to help, we've got quite a lot to get including the second part of your present,' she smiled at me then disappeared out of the room as Dobby brought my breakfast. Draco came down shortly after, with Narcissa fussing about the state of his hair as she combed it flat against his skull, I swallowed a quick giggle before he could glare at me; he wafted Narcissa away and demanded something posh and strange for breakfast with a side of chocolate cereal from Dobby.
I realised that I hadn't asked the serious question yet, 'where do you get all this stuff?'
Draco looked up and smirked because he had one up on me, 'oh, mother didn't tell you? Diagon Alley of course.'
'Great, and where's that?'
He sat back in his chair, 'somewhere near London I think, we're going by flu powder,' he purposefully kept dropping more names of places and things to confuse me. It got to the point where I wasn't even listening anymore, I regretted asking him of all people about it.
Narcissa walked through as the newspaper owl arrived and sat at the table reading.
'Narcissa, where do we get all of this equipment?' I asked.
She put the paper on the table, 'oh my dear, I forgot I hadn't told you yet, well, there's a little area called Diagon Alley which sells all the right equipment for witches and wizards of all ages, we'll need to go to Gringotts, the wizarding bank first of course, I do hope your mother left you something...' she went quiet for a minute, 'but then we'll just go around the shops.'
I nodded as Draco was sticking his tongue out at me from across the table, I just sipped my orange juice, pinky up like he did when he drank pumpkin juice, 'how are we getting there?'
'Flu powder, it's a bit confusing to explain but I'll go first and show you how it works,' she picked up her paper, 'it's so strange to have taken in a muggle raised witch...' she mused, more likely to herself than Draco or I.
The thing that slowly got to me was the fact that I found it so easy to believe in magic and its powers, instead of being shocked I got used to it easily. I mean I was amazed by it and still a little bit in shock over everything, but in my mind it just sort of clicked, and I wondered if I was strange because I accepted it, or the magic in my blood was just so attuned with it already.
I finished my breakfast, and called Dobby to go make me a cup of tea.
We reached Afternoon and had a lunch of cold meats and such like when Lucius got home. Draco and I got our cloaks and waited in front of the fire place, why we were in front of the fireplace I had no idea, it was all new to me.
Narcissa and Lucius joined us in the room and grabbed a pot from on top of the mantelpiece. 'Basically, you grab some of the powder in here...' which she did, then stepped into the fire place, 'step into the fireplace, drop the powder and say the name of the place you want to go, like Diagon Alley,' she demonstrated and left in a puff of green smoke. Draco went next, then it was my turn.
Lucius watched carefully, 'Diagon Alley!' I shouted, and the next second I Narcissa greeted me at the other end.
'Well done, glad we didn't lose you.'
Lucius appeared a second after and brushed his cloak off, 'Right, what's the plan?' He asked.
'Well, we need to go to the bank first of all, then I'll take the children to Madam Malkins whilst I go get their books, I suppose you could go to the wizarding supplies shop and look at wands whilst I get the books dear?'
Lucius nodded curtly as we all set off to the bank. I was first amazed by the sheer size of it on the outside, but when we entered there were rows and rows of what I assumed were goblins, 'don't stare,' Lucius hissed suddenly as we walked to a station.
'We'd like to enter our vault as well as this young ladies, Kaeryn Riddle?' Narcissa said to one of the goblins.
'Keys?'
Lucius got out two keys, 'Kaeryn, we'll give you your key after this so you can get money out when you need to,' he placed them on the desk.
'No we won't,' Narcissa tutted, 'we don't let Draco into the family vault as we don't trust him,' she scowled at her son who was looking around impatiently.
I simply nodded as the Goblin got off his stool and told us to follow him. We reached a cart that looked more like a rollercoaster; I gulped as I looked at the twists and turns 'we won't fall out will we?'
The goblin looked at me strangely. 'Off course not miss.'
'Oh,' I replied as we got into the cart and it started, there were many corkscrew twists and turns but as the goblin said we didn't fall out, it must have been enchanted, I didn't ask as the entire Malfoy family looked sick, the cart slowed down, 'your vault Mr and Mrs Malfoy.'
They got out, leaving Draco and I in the cart for the time being, I craned my head as the Goblin inserted the key into the door and turned it, there was a grinding of gears of some sort before the door opened up and showed a mass of gold, 'wow...' I muttered 'that's...wow...'
'We're rich,' Draco said smugly.
They grabbed a few bags of coins, and put them in their cloaks before we moved on to the next vault. My vault.
When we reached it, Narcissa and Lucius got up with me out of the cart, making Draco stay.
The goblin unlocked the door and it made a different grinding noise, when the door opened, I was amazed by the amount.
'Your mother was very sure to make sure she would have enough for you and her, she was a very hard worker for quite some time,' Narcissa explained.
'What about my father?'
Both Narcissa and Lucius looked at each other and just shook their heads, 'fine...' I said, stepping into the vault, 'so...how does money work here?'
The Goblin grumbled.
'She's been brought up in a muggle family,' Lucius hissed.
'Yes sir.'
Narcissa sighed, 'well, the bronze ones are knuts, the silver are sickles, and the gold are galleons, it's 17 Sickles in a Galleon, and 29 Knuts in a Sickle, meaning there are 493 Knuts in a Galleon,' she rattled off.
I watched as Lucius and Narcissa put coins into bags then we left the bank. Draco and I were dropped off at a shop for robes.
'Judging by your size dearies, you'll be first years!' The woman in the shop exclaimed, 'I should have expected this onslaught of first years at around this time. Come this way and please stand on the stools. '
We stood on the stools she gestured to, 'so, overcome with our lifestyle yet?' Draco smirked as two attendants came to Draco and I with cloth.
'No, not really,' I shrugged, then smiled, 'maybe a bit, there's so much I never knew existed... and it's just exciting to think I'll find out more about this world.'
Draco laughed, 'Ryn, you get excited over little things.'
'So would you if you had lived the way I had before all this, or if you had to leave this life and go the the muggle lifestyle, I don't think you'd last a day to be honest with you Draco,' It was my turn to smirk.
The women started pinning the cloth to us and making alterations as a small, be speckled boy was led to the stool next to Draco. His hair was dark and all over the place, Draco and I sneered slightly at his appearance as he wore baggy clothes and his glasses were broken.
'Hello,' Draco spoke up, 'Hogwarts too?'
'Yes,' the boy nodded.
'My father's next door buying my books and mother is looking at wands.'
'Other way around Draco.' I said, tutting slightly.
'Then after we've got our wands, I'm going to drag them to look at racing brooms, I need a new one. I really think first years should be able to have their own in the school, I'll bully father into buying one and I'll smuggle it in,' he boasted loudly.
'Good luck, you're as sneaky as an elephant, Draco.' I scoffed.
Draco ignored my comment, 'so, have you got a broom?' He asked the boy.
'No.'
'Do you play quidditch?'
'No'
Draco lifted his chin slightly, 'I do, my father says it's a crime if I don't get chosen to play for my house, and I must say, I agree, do you know what house you'll be in?'
'No,' the boy muttered, I silently thanked him as it with Draco's boasting I was slowly gaining more insight, I listened carefully to the next bit.
'Well, no-one really knows until they get there, but I know I'll be in Slytherin, my entire family have been, oh gosh, can you imagine being in Hufflepuff? I think I'd leave wouldn't you.'
Whilst Draco was chatting away, the lady instructed me to step off the stool as she had finished, I looked around the shop for a while before going back to where Draco was pretty much harassing the clueless boy.
'I think he's brilliant,' the boy said coldly.
'Do you? Why is he with you? Where are your parents?'
'They're dead,' the boy said, shortly.
I suddenly felt sympathetic towards him, I mean, my mother was the only one who was dead but it was still heartbreaking to hear.
'Oh, sorry.' Draco said, unsympathetically, 'but they were our kind, weren't they?'
'They were a witch and wizard, if that's what you mean,' the boy retorted, he was getting more and more frustrated with Draco.
I zoned out and looked out of the window, I recoiled as I saw the large figure at the window. I blinked a few times to make sure I wasn't seeing things. He was large, tall and wide, and extremely tatty with scraggly hair.
'Well, I'll see you at Hogwarts, I suppose,' Draco suddenly said as the young boy left.
Draco smirked, 'you could tell he didn't know anything at all.'
'Neither do I, you dung beetle!' I replied, whacking Draco with the bag with my robes in, 'come on, I'm sick of waiting.'
The attendant scowled and quickly finished before Draco and I left, 'it was funny though,' I laughed.
'See? And he got so defensive about the oaf Hagrid.'
I blinked, 'was he the large thing outside?'
Draco laughed harder, 'yes, he's the groundskeeper at Hogwarts, I bet he's more of a pet instead.'
We reached the book shop where Narcissa was outside with stacks of books, 'we'll need a hand getting these back home I think,' she smiled, 'right... Draco, could you go to Ollivanders where your father is, I'd like some time alone with Kaeryn if that's alright.'
The blonde boy shrugged and left us, I looked up, 'what is it?'
'How are you finding it here?'
'Good,' I nodded, 'bit strange but good.'
Narcissa nodded, 'yes, understandable.'
She stopped outside of a shop that seemed to sell owls and other animals alike, 'you're allowed to bring a pet to Hogwarts, and Lucius and I decided that we'll get you a pet as well for your birthday, but we didn't know exactly what to get you – Owl's are useful to send letters but Cats are great familiars, it all depends on the witch or wizard,' she smiled at me as we entered the shop, I looked around the shop at the owls, toads, rats and cats, looking at every creature I could find before moving on.
My eyes rested on a black fluffy Cat with on bright blue eye and one greyish colour, he or she meowed at me and moved closer to the bars.
'Narcissa...I think I've found the one...'
She got an assistant to tell us about the cat, it was a he, we quickly bought him and all of the things necessary to take care of him, 'luckily enough, this one is already potty trained,' the assistant told us.
We left the shop and made our way to the wand shop at the end of the street, 'thank you so much for everything so far...' I muttered.
Narcissa smiled, 'You're welcome, I was fond of your mother, she'd do the same for me.'
I didn't ask any more questions until we got to Ollivander's. The old man fell off his ladder as soon as I entered, 'ahh, I almost wondered if you had survived young Miss Riddle,' he said, handing Draco the box to his newly acquired wand.
Lucius and Narcissa looked nervously at each other whilst Draco whinged about being hungry, 'Kaeryn there's a ice-cream parlor down the street, we'll be outside waiting for you if that's okay?'
I nodded, Ollivander waited until they had gone to move closer to me. 'I'm having a very curious day indeed today.'
'How so?' I asked, but he simply smiled.
'You look so much like your parents, handsome and serene in one,' he smiled sadly, 'now, I assume you're looking for a wand are you, Miss Riddle?'
'How do you know my parents?'
He chuckled as he got on his ladder and looked around the shelves, 'I have been a wand maker for many years, I sold both your parents their wands, it's most likely that every witch and wizard in the country got their wands from me, my dear chid,' he handed me a wand, '9 inches, supple, mahogany and dragon heartstring.'
I gave it a little wave and some sparks flew out then fizzled out quickly, 'no,' he took the wand off me then went in search of another.
He pulled out around 5 different boxes, I tried each one but he quickly took them off me after each attempt for something to happen.
'That can't be...ah!' He went all the way to the back, 'I forgot I made this...' he handed it over to me, '11 inches, flexible, ebony and phoenix feather,' he smiled.
I took it and immediately felt a connection, 'this one,' I said excitedly, 'it's this one!'
'The phoenix's seem to favour your family,' he smiled as I paid and took the wand.
The Malfoy's were eating ice-cream, well, Lucius and Draco were, Narcissa just had a glass of something.
'Would you like anything?' Narcissa asked, passing me a menu. I smiled and ordered a strawberry sparkle sundae, whilst eating it, I thanked my lucky stars that I was a witch, I felt comfortable, no longer over stressed because I felt like I was being suffocated. I smiled off into the distance, soon enough we were on our way back to the fireplace with everything we had bought.
The first of September came quicker than I would have expected and Draco and I were soon enough stood on the platform 9 ¾ with loads our large suitcases filled with clothing and supplies. I was amazed by the platform itself, the muggles have no idea that there is a platform between 9 and 10 in Kings Cross Station; it's amazing the ways in which the magic world works around keeping their world secret from non-magical humans. The other thing that amazed me was also the train, it was a glorious red, and it gleamed and reflected colour across the busy platform.
I stared open mouthed at what was around me.
'Urgh, the Weasleys...' Lucius scoffed, 'Draco, Kaeryn, if there's anything you should not do whilst in school it's don't be friends with the Weasleys, a stupid, pathetic excuse for a pure blood family.'
We walked through the crowds of families saying goodbye to their children, the Malfoys caught up with a family that they apparently knew, the Goyle's – Draco introduced me to their son, saying they were good friends but had been away over summer.
'That explains why we haven't met yet,' I muttered.
Narcissa spun me around, 'you'll write to us ... or rather me if you need any help or anything?'
I nodded, 'Of course, I'm sure I'm not the only one raised by muggles with magical talent coming to Hogwarts though, I'll be fine.'
'I know you will be,' she smiled, almost proudly. The train started letting off steam, 'you all best be off now,' Draco and I gave our cases to assistants in red uniforms before jumping onto the train with his friend Goyle, whilst Draco was looking into different coach apartments we ran into another friend of Draco's.
'Crabbe, where were you on the platform?'
'We were late,' The boy replied, before looking to me, 'who is this?'
Draco tutted, 'no need to be so rude, this is Kaeryn, her mother was a friend of my mothers and we took her in over summer, she was raised by muggles – can you believe it?' The trio of boys chortled.
'Hey, this one's empty,' I called to the boys opening the door and sitting next to the window, Draco sat next to me as he boasted about his summer. The boys seemed more like Draco's sidekicks rather than his friends.
A couple of people came by, 'hey, everywhere is full, can we join you?'
'No.'
'Yes.' Draco and I said at the same time, I glared at him then looked to them, 'why not.'
They sat down nervously, Draco ignored them until they started talking about some Harry Potter boy being on the train.
'Harry Potter? Really?' He got excited.
'Who is he?'
'He defeated the dark lord Voldemort when he was one year old.'
'...who is Voldemort?'
Draco looked to Crabbe and Goyle who sniggered, he slapped them with a copy of the daily prophet, 'you do not laugh at Kaeryn, she is family.' He smoothed his hair down, 'some say he's the worst evil to ever happen to the magical race, he was obsessed with power and many people were his followers, others say he was the strongest wizard ever,' he smiled, curling his lip, 'he went to go kill the Potter family and when he reached baby Harry he couldn't do it, he tried but instead Voldemort or 'he-who-must-not-be-named,' was destroyed.'
'Sounds a bit ridiculous to be honest with you Draco,' I sighed and leaned against the window, 'but whatever.'
Draco turned to the people who had joined us, 'so, what houses do you think you'll be in?'
The two blinked, 'houses?'
Crabbe and Goyle laughed, as Draco looked to them, 'oh, urm, maybe we should find another carriage.' They looked to each other and swiftly left, 'mudbloods, Dad says they shouldn't be allowed into Hogwarts, I completely agree.'
We all smirked at each other, 'they're so stupid, it's like why on earth have they even been accepted into Hogwarts, it's for magic folk right?'
'I'm so glad your parents were magic Kaeryn, I don't think I would have coped if they weren't.'
'Please Draco, I know as well as you, your parents wouldn't accept me if I was magic born,' I smirked, 'so have you met this Harry Potter before?
Draco shook his head, 'hey! How about we go and find him, maybe we can convince him to be our friend, then we'd be as known as him.'
I didn't think it was a good idea but we got up and tried to find the compartment with the famous young boy in anyway. We found it in the end, Draco pulled open the door and looked at the boy, I probably should have guessed. This famous Harry Potter was the boy from the cloak shop.
'They're saying it all down the train, so it's you then?'
'Yes,' the boy replied, looking to the figures on either side of Draco and I. I leaned on the door frame.
'This is Crabbe and Goyle, this is Kaeryn,' he gestured to me, I smiled slightly, 'and I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy.'
I suddenly was aware that there was another person in the carriage, with ginger hair and freckly skin, I was only aware because he made a slight cough.
'Think my name is funny do you? No need to ask who you are, Kaeryn, this is who father was talking about, the Weasleys, more children than they can afford,' Draco told me.
I sniggered, 'oh goodness, gracious, one of those families?'
'You'll soon find out some families are better than others, You don't want to be making friends with... the wrong sort, I can help you there,' Draco held out his hand. I was curious to see what this infamous young boy would do, turn against this cretin or stick...
'I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself thanks.'
'I'd be careful If I were you, Potter,' Draco hissed, 'unless you're a bit politer, you'll go the same way as your parents. Word is they didn't know what was good for them either, you hang around with riff raff like the Weasleys and that Hagrid and it'll rub off on you.'
I couldn't contain myself, I laughed, 'calm down, Draco, he just doesn't want to be friends with the superiors, it's quite obvious he likes to be around those lower than him so he can look bigger than he is.' I tutted.
'Say that again,' Harry and the Weasley boy stood up.
'Going to fight us are you?' Malfoy sneered, I rolled up my jumper sleeves and crossed my arms.
'Unless you get out, yes.'
Draco looked around the cabin, 'I don't think we feel like leaving.'
Goyle reached for a chocolate frog with his fat hands then let out a horrid yell. At the end of his finger was the ugliest rat I had ever seen. He spun around trying to get the rat off then Draco, Crabbe and Goyle all pelted it.
'Bloody cowards,' I sniggered, I looked between the boys, 'see you at school,' then left, when I reached Draco again I smacked him over the head, 'you are a coward, it was only a rat, you're all quite a bit bigger than it.'
'Shut up Kaeryn.' Malfoy snapped, sitting down in the compartment, he crossed his arms, 'that Harry Potter thinks he's all that, when he's not really,' he sulked.
I sighed, 'I'm going to get into my uniform, see you in a bit,' I got my clothes and left the compartment, I could hear Draco complaining about the Weasley boys rat as I slid the door shut. Walking down the corridor I tried to find a bathroom or something, I wouldn't change in the compartment with the boys, ew.
I bumped into a pair of tall gingers on the way, 'watch where you're going!' I snapped, picking up my clothes.
'Oh George, I bet we can guess which house this one is going to be?'
'Whats your name? So we can see if we're right.' The other one said, they looked exactly the same.
'Please move,' I sighed.
They parted and I walked away, 'Ta-rah!' They called in a singsong voice.
I turned around and sneered, 'they must also be Weasleys.' I thought, I found the bathroom and changed into my robes then joined Draco and his crones, 'ran into some more Weasleys, how many are there?'
'They have five sons and one daughter I think, father says that their fathers pay is pretty low as well, and the mother doesn't work, yet they expect to feed and clothe that many children, it's ridiculous,' Draco explained.
'Sounds it, do you think we'll be arriving soon?'
Draco shrugged just as the train jolted to a stop, I rushed to the window and looked outside, we were there. We left the train and looked around.
'First years, over here!'
There was a loud bellowing, Draco and I looked up and groaned as we saw the large man from outside madam Malkin's.
'Leave your stuff, it'll be taken to the castle for ye.'
We stood in the large group of other children our age, there was a large amount of pushing so I shoved them back and Draco and I ended up at the front of the group next to Harry Potter and the Weasley boy.
'Hiya Harry,' the oaf said, scanning the group, 'right, is that everyone-'
He stopped when he looked at me and blinked, Draco sniggered and nudged me as the man stepped back.
'Follow me to the boats,' he quickly turned around and we followed.
'What on earth was that about?' Draco asked.
'You have as much idea as I do, I feel dirty though, eurgh!'
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Harry scowl at me, I flicked my hair over one of my shoulders.
'Four to a boat, please,' Hagrid said, 'don't worry the boats are enchanted.'
We clambered into boats on a large black lake, I looked up to the sky, it was quite a beautiful sight, it was as black as the lake to water and sky merged only the sky had shining stars that the water reflected, we turned a corner in the boats and before me was an amazing castle, lit up against the dark. I leaned forward to get a better look.
'Woah, careful Kaeryn, you're rocking the boat!' Draco moaned as the boat rocked slightly too each side.
'It's gorgeous...' I whispered, sitting back, I saw Crabbe and Goyle look at me weird then to each other, 'sorry, do you have something to say?' I sneered. They quickly shook their heads, 'good,' I went back to admiring the castle.
Soon enough we reached the castle and were led to the front door where Hagrid left us in the charge of a sour looking old lady in a green hat and cloak, 'in a few moments you will be put into houses, you will be sorted into one of the four houses, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Slytherin, in a few moments we shall walk through these doors and the sorting shall commence, is everyone ready? Good.'
The large wooden doors opened and revealed a massive hall with four tables and one at the very front. As we all walked in the students turned around in their seats, I looked up to the ceiling to see floating candles.
'Magic is astounding,' I thought to myself, we reached the front of the hall; there was a shabby hat on a stool.
The lady, called Professor McGonagall shed the hall as the shabby hat opened its stitching and began to speak.
Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!
The hall was filled with applause, until the crowd hushed and a bearded man at the front stood up, 'let the sorting, commence!'
Names were read out in alphabetical order. Draco's was read out and before the hat even touched his hair he was placed into Slytherin, he smiled and sauntered to the table on the far right as the table cheered.
Whilst waiting for my name to be read out, my eyes scanned the front table, my eyes stuck, funnily enough on the man with the high collared jacket and shoulder length hair, he also had a rather large hooked nose. The other teacher, who was staring directly at me, was on in a purple turban who looked fairly nervous.
'Kaeryn Riddle,' Professor McGonagall called out.
I was aware of the majority of the staff turn to look at me as I sat down on the stool, 'ahh, I never thought I'd see another Riddle...your mother was also interesting to place, indeed... your father was an obvious choice...'
'Put me into the house they were in,' I thought.
'Really? Are you certain? ...well, I suppose it would be best for you to be in... SLYTHERIN!'
The hat was removed and I jumped up, and walked to the Slytherin table, a smug smile on my face, I turned to look at the staff table, somewhere talking amongst themselves, others were looking directly at me, I flicked my hair and sat down as other students started talking to me.
'Well, both my parents were in Slytherin, like Draco's, it was bound to happen.' I smiled, I was too busy listening to the Slytherins talk between themselves to notice the food appearing on the table, I indulged in whatever I could stomach before sitting back content and full.
'Who were your parents then?' Someone asked.
I paused for a moment, 'I didn't actually know them, instead I was raised by...urgh, dare I say, muggles, before the Malfoys took me in of course.'
'How do you know your family are a good family then?'
I scowled, 'if you're so bothered, go and find out about my family, but do not insult them when you know less about them than I.'
The guy who had spoken left it after that.
A few moments later, just as dessert arrived the hall became filled with ghosts, seemingly checking out the newbies in their specific houses. Draco whispered to me that the Slytherin ghost was the bloody Baron as he floated up and down the table.
After everyone had eaten we all were ushered by Prefects to follow them to the Slytherin common room, it amused me to find out we were situated in the Dungeons.
'Girls to your left, boys to your right, you'll find your belongings already up in your rooms, you get your timetables tomorrow morning at breakfast, so don't miss it.' The prefect left.
I looked around the common room to find Draco, 'I'm going to my room to check my familiar made it, want a hot chocolate after?'
He nodded, 'I'll meet you down here in an hour or so then.'
I went to my room and found where my stuff had been put down, my cat was on my bed, cleaning himself. 'Hey there Mister,' I smiled and tickled him behind the ear.
'Hey, so we're in the same dorm? I'm Pansy Parkinson.'
'Kaeryn Riddle,' I put my hand out for her to shake but she kept her arms crossed, 'and this is Millicent and Daphne, we met on the train so I guess you're unluckily the least known to us.'
I sighed, 'I hope we get to know each other closely then, I'd rather be close to those I have to live with,' I checked my watch, 'I'll see you girls later, it's nice to meet you, I hope we can be...friends.' I smirked, 'come on Mister.'
My cat jumped off the bed and followed closely at my heels as I went downstairs, Draco was sat in the biggest green chair by the fire, a tray of hot chocolate and marshmallows by his side.
'Have you named that feline yet?' He asked as the cat jumped on the arm of Draco's chair as I picked up a cup, dropping marshmallows into it.
I thought, 'not really,' I sat down before my cat came and curled up on my lap, 'you better not make me spill it everywhere, Mister...'
The cat purred, I saw the girls in my dorm come down from the stairs, they looked at Draco looking at me, I smirked, 'girls...' I thought.
I leant towards Draco, lifting my cup, 'here's to us and our bloodlines.'
'Agreed.'
