A.N.: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another chapter and a game of 'Spot the Allusion!'
Just outside of the castle in the forest, the Mane Gang panted and huffed in exhaustion after galloping as fast as they could out from the secret exit. Reef's legs wobbled like jelly on a rollercoaster before he finally collapsed, panting away.
"I can't believe we left our families in there!" Lightning Flash yelled.
"I can't believe Princess Celestia let the exit collect dust!" Jewel complained, brushing dust off her coat.
"I can't believe I left the water running at home!" Berry exclaimed. Everyone looked at her confusedly.
"What? Moments like these need comic relief!" she argued.
"Look, y'all," Apple Cider said in a serious tone, "I know our parents are in there kicking who knows how many flanks, but we need to find that seventh Element, whatever it may be."
"But Sunset Streak is still in there! I could've saved her when I had the chance!" Lightning rowed angrily before falling on his flank and sighing sadly. He muttered, "Some of Element of Loyalty I'm turning out to be."
Melody placed a hoof on his shoulder sympathetically and said, hoping to bring the Pegasus' spirits up, "Lightning, if your sister were here, she would say―"
"GET OUT OF THE WAY!" Sunset Streak piped from inside the exit.
Berry complimented Melody, "Wow, you sound just like her. Now do me!"
"But that wasn't―" the princess had no time to finish as Discord and the four foals rolled out of the exit, screeching to a stop in front of them.
"Sunny!" Lightning yelled in excitement, running over to his little sister and scooping her up in his arms.
"Oh, for a second or two, I thought I'd let you down!" he continued, spinning around with his sister. Unfortunately, the dizziness left from her crashing only increased.
"You know, you could 'let me down' now so I could clear my head!" the filly said with a mixture of annoyance and discomfort.
"Oops, sorry," Lightning apologized, placing her on the ground.
Paucity's irritation was twice as bad; Jewel decided to play the over-protective sister.
"Alright, where's the break? Is there a break?" the former asked quickly, flipping her sister over with her magic to check for any injury.
"Jewel…" Paucity tried to protest, but her sister only continued to ask her.
"Anything broken? A sprain perhaps?" she asked in a voice so quick that it could beat Lightning's speed.
"Jewel."
"Sweet Celestia's mane, I just thought! A concussion?!"
"Jewel!"
"Quick, how many eyelashes do I have in total?!"
"Jewel, I'm fine!"
"Answer the eyelash question!"
With a sigh, Paucity replied, "Six."
"No!" Jewel exclaimed in a panicked tone. "See, something's wrong with you!"
She pulled out a mirror that Berry was holding (for absolutely no reason) and started counting her eyelashes.
"I have one, two, three…" She murmured the rest and turned surprised.
"Six… Six, that's all I have?" she questioned herself before sighing in relief. "Oh, you're okay."
"I told you!" Paucity squeaked.
"Guys! Focusing time!" Apple Cider reminded everyone, having assured that his siblings were fine. "We need to get to the old castle!"
Leafly asked, "Um, not to worry any pony, but where is the castle exactly?"
Everyone looked at each other in realization before turning to Star Gazer.
"Uh, why is everyone staring at me?" the alicorn asked uncomfortably.
"You're the brains," Lightning retorted. "Figure it out."
"What am I, a map?"
"Probably," the Pegasus replied in a deadpan tone.
"Don't waste your time, because we don't need one," Discord interrupted, pointing to the abandoned castle a distance away. "She's right there."
Every pony gazed in wonder as the sun bathed a golden light over the castle, giving it a sign of hope for the gang.
After a moment's pause, Lightning said, "Well, we ain't gonna reach the Element standing around!"
"Yeah! Let's get a move on!" Apple Cider agreed.
The two began to walk confidently in the castle's direction before Melody called, "Uh, guys? Aren't you forgetting something?"
"Huh?" they chorused before turning to her gesturing to the foals.
"Oh, yeah," Lightning said.
"Well, we can't bring them with us; it's too dangerous!" Leafly said.
"Yeah! Someone needs to look after them while find the super-secret Element!" Berry implied.
"But who would be willing to watch over four foals?" Melody asked.
Suddenly, an idea popped in her head, and she turned to Discord.
"Whatever it is, no!" Discord said fearfully.
"Discord," Melody began, "You're what we call… 'a kid-at-heart.'"
The draconequus raised one eyebrow and said, "Go on."
"Well, these four do need someone to keep them entertained, don't you think? Why don't you watch over them and occupy them with your… chaos."
Discord mused over the thought. Come to think of it, he had not used his magic much for a few weeks for Celestia's sake (due to a bad cotton-candy hair day). To use it again with a princess's permission was new, but then again, he always enjoyed playing with the Mane Gang when they were foals. Plus, if it meant keeping him as far away from Obsidian as possible, he'd be more than happy to do it.
"Well," he said with a smile, "I simply can't refuse a princess's order. I'd be more than happy to babysit the little angels for you."
He wrapped a tail around all four foals and placed them on his back.
"You promise you'll keep them safe?" Lightning asked concernedly.
"Of course I will," Discord said with a wave of his hand. "Adios!"
With a snap of his fingers, he and the young ponies disappeared in a light flash. Lightning stared at where he stood before sighing sadly and turning around.
"Come on," he said to the others solemnly, "we're wasting time."
The others looked at their friend's change of attitude but followed him anyway, hoping he would lighten up soon enough.
A.N.: Okay, I know this chapter is shorter than usual AND the fact that it's been a month or two since the last update, but I have had a bad case of writer's block with this story. Plus, ever since I had a new DeviantArt account (you can find the link on my profile page), this story bounced to the very back of my mind.
In addition, I feel like I'm letting everyone wait for one story when I could pour out my other fanfic ideas that buzzed around in my head for too long. So, I have decided to start on a new SpongeBob fanfic that I MIGHT post today, but it might take a while.
In the meantime, hope you enjoyed this chapter!
