( Previously On 'Why You?': )
The only sound heard for miles is the sound of Shizuru's roaring engine as she continued to speed down the rich neighborhood. Mansions built at the side of the road next to each other. Trees surrounding the roads. Posh cars parked everywhere.
Shizuru then noticed the rain pattering against her wind shield as the wipers wiped the water out of the view. The road began to grow rather slick as she continued to drive along the main driveway, heading towards the city since Natsuki lived in a hotel. Shizuru's mind traveled to thoughts of Natsuki and how she must have been in pain so much from her actions. That hurt facial expression strangled Shizuru's heart as she recalled it.
Shizuru was so lost in though she hadn't realized that a red light had appeared on a street light and when she immediately stepped on the brake, the car began to skid and slide as she whizzed past the light. Thank fully it is rather late so no one was on the road.
That was what she thought until a rev caught her attention as the driver of that vehicle tried to brake also seeing Shizuru wasn't able to stop but the driver didn't have enough time to make a complete halt.
The impact wasn't as hard as Shizuru though it would be, in fact it was as if the thing just flew over her car but that didn't help with the big bruise now forming on her head as she had been thrown against the steering wheel before the air bag came out. Shizuru inspected the damaged and noticed her car had barely moved besides from skidding to a halt on an angle. Her left car door is dented and the window cracked. Other things appeared on the car but Shizuru didn't spare them a glance.
It is rather dark and so she couldn't see who or what she had crashed into. Shizuru stepped out of her crashed car doors side. She looked around and went to her trunk and pulled out a flash light and shined it around but she couldn't see anything besides odd pieces of a...bike?
Shizuru rushed to the over side of her car and ran a few feet as she approached a shattered bike and a body laying motionless on the floor. Shizuru panicked and let the tears roll down her face as she sprinted to the person's side.
"NATSUKI!" Shizuru screamed at the top of her lungs as she carefully took off the person's helmet...
The cold night's early hours began to sneak into the hospitals private room 209 with the name plate 'Kruger' written in bold black letters. The room had two occupants so far. One is sitting in a chair holding the girl laying in the beds hand for her dear life.
The first person in the 4 legged wooden chair is Shizuru. Her eyes have dark rings under them, her skin is as pale as a ghost, her cheeks stained with salty tears and her eyes are blood shot red from her constant crying. Shizuru's hair is still damp and matted into lumps. Her clothes are soaked and are clinging to her body as if it the only thing it can do. Shizuru had laid her top half on the side of the bed near Natsuki's stomach as she continued to gaze at her true love, hooked up to machines with a mask on her face for breathing. Shizuru gave Natsuki's hand a squeeze.
The second person is Natsuki as she laid in the freshly cleaned hospital sheets on a large bed next to large and high tech machines that she, herself is hooked up tp, her body is frozen and un-moving, almost as if she is dead. She can not move nor can she feel the hand holding her. Natsuki's mouth had tubes running in and out for the mask on her face to help her. Wires attached to pads that rest on her chest, making that annoying beeping noise, a very faint one at that. A blood pressure band is attached to her left bicep. IV drip lines running along see through wires leading into her arm. All in all, it looked very painful but she couldn't feel it.
Everything had happened so fast. She was on her way to Shizuru's house and then she collided with something and was knocked out. She hasn't woken up since and the doctors are still running tests to find the root of the problem. The test have been running through the night to the early morning, waiting for the results. So far, Natsuki has had a brain scan for any head injuries, blood tests and so on. There was so many Shizuru lost count.
Then there was a knock at the door and after a few seconds and an "Enter" was said a doctor in her lab coat appeared. The said women walked over to the end of the bed and took off the clip board from its peg and scanned through it.
"Good evening, Miss Viola. I am Miss Kruger's doctor, Doctor Yohko Sagisawa. Are you related to the patient in any way? If not, then I'm afraid I can't tell you anything." Yohko said and Shizuru immediately began panicking and so she said the first thing that came to mind.
"Natsuki is my fiancee. You may tell me the results, please." Shizuru said as she stared straight at the doctor who seemed to be gazing at her with some suspicion but shrugged it off.
"Well Miss Viola, it seems your 'fiancee' is in a coma. The head injury caused some damage to the brain and currently it is working at its lowest alertness. However, I have reason to believe that she will return to her old self when she wakes up, when ever that will be, I can not say when. It is a very good job she was wearing a helmet, otherwise she wouldn't have survived." The doctor said as she flipped page through page on the clip board and she noticed Shizuru's eyes began to water again. She hated telling people bad news.
"As she remains in her coma, we will continue to monitor her progress of the brain activity and she will stay here until she is allowed to be released. To be blunt: If she wakes up she is free to go, if she doesn't and a certain period of time drags along, she may never wake up. Most cases do have the patient waking up but some don't. I advise you to prepare yourself for the worst case. I have contacted her parents, they will be here after they have time and are in. To be frank, it didn't sound like they want to come and visit their child." The doctor finished and then bid her goodbye's and left the room.
Once she was gone, Shizuru let the dam flow from her eyes. She had caused Natsuki to enter a coma and she may not ever wake up again but from what the doctor says she may and soon. Shizuru still couldn't believe it. If she hadn't left Natsuki this wouldn't have happened. If only she hadn't been so stupid to let her thoughts drift away from the road and not sped over the limit. If only she hadn't done everything that she had in the night, then Natsuki wouldn't be hooked up to a machine, in a coma.
Shizuru raised her hand and lightly caressed Natsuki's face with small strokes from her cheeks to her jaw. Then a thought struck her. Natsuki isn't fully a female and so that means in the future, what would the risks be for them? Presumably a lot but the future didn't matter to Shizuru, as long as she has Natsuki. Awake and happy. With her, that is all she wants.
Shizuru cupped Natsuki's cheek as she lifted her body up to hover above Natsuki's face. Once there, she nuzzled her nose against Natsuki's own nose, being careful to avoid the medical equipment. Once the cute little nuzzle was done, Shizuru rested her forehead against Natsuki's own and sighed. Her hot tears that began to fall fell on Natsuki's cheeks.
"I'm sorry..." She whispered for Natsuki but she knew Natsuki couldn't respond to her. "I never meant to let this happen to you, to us..." Shizuru trailed off. "I wanted to tell you how I feel but I never expected this to happen. I'm so sorry Natsuki, so sorry..." Those were the last words Shizuru said before her eyes closed and she fell asleep in the hospital chair, by Natsuki's bedside.
Time began to drag for everyone. Especially for Shizuru. Days turned into weeks and then them weeks turned into months. Even after 6 months, Natsuki still hasn't woken up yet. Although, the doctors are saying that her brain activity is beginning to raise which is proving that Natsuki is slowly recovering. That news was delivered around 3 months after the incident and 3 months before now.
Natsuki's parents never visited her, not even a check up or a phone call to check her progress. Shizuru had begun to fear for the worst, that maybe Natsuki may never wake up. She couldn't sleep at night because of the guilt that is eating at her from the inside out. Eventually, it began to show in her appearance and attitude. The first to notice were her parents and when they confronted her about it, she broke down and told them everything. They understood and tried their best to help Shizuru with her problems and even came to see Natsuki in the hospital.
They also weren't very happy about hearing that Natsuki's parents have not visited their child. In fact, it enraged them that they wouldn't want to see their own child, even if she is different.
Another day came and it began coming to the end of the six months that Natsuki has been in her coma. Shizuru came in and did the usual routine. She spoke of how school is and how she missed Natsuki. Natsuki's friends such as Mai, Chie, Nao and Mikoto all arrived now and then to see Natsuki but out of all of them, Shizuru visited every day. Without fail. Even if Natsuki is on a coma, she would grunt now and then and when it first happened, the doctor explained how Natsuki is beginning to feel. Over a small amount of time, Natsuki's injuries healed leaving small scars from cuts that she had received.
"Ara, Natsuki. We received a new teacher today. He gave us a surprise exam and everyone in the class passed except...except...you..." Shizuru fought to fight off the tears that were trying to break through but she fought them off as she took deep breaths and rapidly blinked her eyes to shoo them away. She succeeded and placed on a smile as she continued to tell Natsuki about the recent events. That was until a scuffle sounded outside the room and a nurse began yelling at who ever it is that they can't barge in without explaining who they are at the reception desk.
Shizuru stood next to Natsuki's bed and waited to see if the noise would pass. Then it suddenly became silent before the door burst open, shocking Shizuru to make her jump slightly. A man with jet black hair stormed in with his eyebrow twitching as he searched the room. His eyes finally set on Natsuki and he began to approach with fury until he noticed Shizuru step in his way.
"Ara, I do believe that there is a patient resting here. Such a commotion is un-needed." Shizuru said as she stared at the man with hidden fury.
"Get out of my way girl! This is none of your concern! I am its father! Lanster Kruger! Now move out of my way, you silly little girl!" The man roared as he clenched his fists and glared at Shizuru, trying to make her leave but she just blinked at him.
"Ara, I see. You are the man whom has not visited his daughter for the past six months that she has been in a coma. You never called or did anything to check up on her. I highly doubt such a person as yourself are able to call themselves a parent. Hm, If I do recall, that is child neglect, is it not, Mr Kruger?" Shizuru spat at him and he noticeably gulped and was left speechless. The room entered a silence before a woman entered the room.
Shizuru did a double take at the woman. She looked exactly like Natsuki if she was not wearing the glasses perched on her face. She seemed to be shocked as she looked at Lanster as he stood frozen on the spot.
"Oh dear. Love? Are you alright?" The woman inquired as she circled her husband and hadn't even noticed Shizuru in the room.
The woman turned and then stared at Shizuru. When she realized who the girl is, she smacked her husband on the back of his head, snapping him back to reality. He was about to burst when the women interrupted him first.
"What a lovely surprise, Miss Viola. I am Saeko Kruger. What would such a fine woman as yourself be doing in this room with this...this...thing? If I may of course, ask you?" Saeko said more of a statement than a question as she glanced over at Natsuki with hatred written all over her gaze before turning her eyes to a too sweet smile from Shizuru.
Lanster snapped his head back and forth from the women, staring at each other and then clicked that 'Viola' is a company that is matching with their own. He immediately strengthened himself out as he watched the scene unfold. Maybe if he could get on her good side, they can become a much higher company.
"Ara? You dare to call your child a 'thing' even though it is Natsuki, who came from your very body? I must certainly say, you are both un-becoming parents. It makes me sick to wonder if this is how you treat Natsuki all the time. I hate such people, like yourselves. Also, do not think that by trying to act as though you care for her, will help you in any way with my company. I can see that you do not care for her." Shizuru spat at them both as their eyes shot open like footballs as they stared at the girl before them.
Saeko seemed to regain her composure before Lanster did.
"Such words from such a young child. Tell me girl, if you had a child that has that of a man and a women's body, would you still love such a disgusting creature?" Saeko spat at Shizuru as she narrowed her eyes and began to seethe in anger at her. Shizuru merely once again, blinked at them.
"Ara, If I do recall correctly, I am in love with Natsuki. However, Natsuki is un-able to hear my confession at this moment in time, as you can obviously see, she is in a coma." Shizuru spoke rather matter of a fact as she turned away from the couple and stared lovingly at Natsuki's sleeping form. She thought Natsuki wouldn't be able to hear but then when she was about to turn, she heard a slight grunt and whipped around immediately and went to Natsuki's bedside.
Shizuru gazed at Natsuki's form that still laid un-moving besides from the odd little grunts that she let loose. Shizuru couldn't help but think Natsuki heard her. Shizuru wanted to indulge in Natsuki more but was interrupted. She let out a sigh and turned to the couple with a stone cold face.
"Such an abomination should not exist in the world. I would hate to think you want to drag down your company because of the likes of this thing, dare I even say its name!" This time it was Lanster as he showed his true self instead of his composed side. Shizuru thanked the heavens that her family's company isn't merged with this one because she wouldn't be able to run them into the ground. However, she knew she couldn't because this is Natsuki's family and her future company. Shizuru let out a heavy sigh.
"Ara, as annoying as this conversation is, we are running around in circles. Now we shall get down to the real reason you are here. Why exactly are you here after 6 months of never showing a care in the world?" Shizuru inquired as she sat on the wooden chair and crossed her legs over the other, being intimidating as always when in business mode.
Lanster growled at her. Shizuru can see where her Natsuki's temper comes from, this man in front of her. "Ara please, don't think you will scare me with your petty glares and animistic growls. It shows your true nature, does it not?" Shizuru asked as she let her head rest on her fist the propped her head up.
Before they could even speak, Shizuru began again. "Then I shall show you mine. My true nature is that of a snake to be more precise. This is because I, enjoy squeezing the life out of my prey. I enjoy how they try to struggle free from my grip until they eventually are crushed. I would certainly hate to ruin Natsuki's rightful place in her company when she graduates but if I must do so to protect my Natsuki, then I will. Choose wisely because if Natsuki is hurt any way in the long run, I will personally make your lives hell. Now get out. You have no need to be here as my Natsuki continues to rest." Shizuru dismissed them with a flick of her hand and took pride in herself as she looked at their pale and scared features.
Lanster and Saeko left reluctantly. At the present time, they can't interfere with the Viola's business since they have slightly more power in that world than the Kruger's do. With that said from Shizuru, they have no choice but to leave for the day as they cursed the girl on their way home.
Shizuru sighed and stood up from the seat she was in. She leaned over the bed and nuzzled the girl's nose. It had become a habit that she enjoyed indulging in. Now if only Natsuki was awake.
"My Natsuki...Please, I'm begging you...wake up soon.. I need you here, with me...just please wake up..." Shizuru said as she placed a lingering kiss on Natsuki's cheek before once again, spending the night in the hospital. Only this time, she carefully curled herself up against Natsuki's own body and placed her arms over her. She sighed a happy sigh and let her sleep take over her.
The cycle began again. Another 2 months have passed since Natsuki's parents visit and they haven't been back since. The doctor is always saying how the brain activity is slowly starting to work more but deep down she is fearing that the girl may not wake up. After all this time, Natsuki has begun to change.
Natsuki's body is no longer smaller than Shizuru's own, in fact, Natsuki is an inch taller than Shizuru now. Natsuki's hair that once reached just below her shoulder blades is now down at her waist. Natsuki's limbs have begun to turn into mush and she feels squishy. Although, her facial features have matured. Natsuki's face is fuller, showing all the curves of her jaw and cheek bones.
Everyone had begun to think Natsuki may never wake up in their minds, all except one who still prayed that Natsuki will wake guilt still eats away at her and it will for the rest of her life. Shizuru still cries herself to sleep by the side of Natsuki every night. Her parents never asked her why she never sleeps at home. Shizuru didn't care about anything else, she just wanted Natsuki to wake up. Even if Natsuki doesn't love her, even if she hates her, as long as Natsuki is alive and healthy, it is all she wants!
It is the last day of school before the summer holiday now. Time began to fly past. Shizuru is hovering her body over Natsuki's body with her hands on either side of Natsuki's head. The high tech equipment has been taken off her mouth because she is able to breathe without the use of it.
"Natsuki... I need to go now...I have to meet my parents but I promise...I will come back. When I do come back here, will you be awake, Natsuki? I...I wanted to confess on that night to you. Ara, indeed. I have decided that Natsuki is Natsuki and I don't care whether you are different, as long as you're by my side. Natsuki, I love you. With all my heart I love you, please wake up. I need you with me here and now. Please...I'm begging you..." Shizuru begged as she slowly began to close in on Natsuki's tender face.
The small gap between them began to get smaller and smaller as her face inched closer to Natsuki's own. What seemed like forever was only a few seconds as they finally reached their lips together and locked them. An electric current shot through Shizuru's body at the touch. The kiss is soft and tender but unresponsive. Shizuru finally pulled back and caressed Natsuki's cheek before she turned on her heels and left the hospital room without a word.
As she left and din't look back, she failed to notice the twitching of Natsuki's body when she left.
