A/N: Hey guys, here's the next chapter! As I'm writing this, I am preparing for college. I have class in 21 minutes. Wish me luck as I begin this new chapter of my life and give you a new chapter in A New Avengers for the New Avengers. Please, leave a review about what you think and your thoughts on what will happen next, even if you've seen the movie. As we can see, I've made some adjustments already. Enjoy as Melody actually fights in this chapter.

The Hulk turns away from us and smashes his fist into the Chitauri leviathan that was headed right towards us. Tony shot a rocket at the leviathan, causing it to blow up. Chunks of it caught fire as it fell to where we were. Steve hefted his shield up to cover me and him. He held me closely, surrounding what wasn't covered by his shield. When he lifted the shield away and moved away from me, a small smile on his lips, I could see Clint glaring at him. Let me just say, if looks could kill, Steve would be dead, me with him. I promptly glared back at Clint. He looked away and had the grace to look ashamed. Guess he was taking to heart what I had said.

We look up and see more Chitauri coming out of the portal.

"Crap." There were no other words I could say that would've described our situation at the time. I looked at Steve, then to Clint. They both looked, not really scared so much as nervous about what was occurring.

"Uh, guys..."

Tony turned towards Steve. "Call it, Cap."

Steve immediately took command. "Alright, listen up. Until we can close that portal up there, we're gonna use containment. Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything gets more than three blocks out, you turn it back or your turn it to ash."

"Wanna give me a lift?" Clint asked Tony.

"Right. Better clench up, Legolas." Go figure. looked at Steve, waiting to hear what else he would say for those of us remaining.

"Thor, you've gotta try and bottleneck that portal. Slow them down. You've got the lightening, light them up." Thor flew off in a great whirlwind. "Melody, go to Stark's tower. Keep an eye on what Loki's doing and report back to us. If you can find some way to shut dew that machine, do it." I nodded and started to sprint to the Stark building.

I arrived surprisingly quickly, all things considered. There were a few instances where I had to stop to save some people, but it was relatively easy. Almost as if the Chitauri were avoiding me. When I arrived at Stark Tower, Loki wasn't there, Not like it was a big surprise, because I had seen him flying over the city on one of the Chitauri chariots. What did surprise me, however, was when I reached Tony's floor in his building.

"Hello, Darling. Did you enjoy your time off?" Standing behind me, in full Asgardian warrior glory, was Loki. Was I terrified? Yes. Did I show it? Absolutely not!

"What do you want from me, Loki?"

"I want you to get the Avengers, or whatever you call them, to stop protecting this pathetic world that is mine to rule."

I just looked at him. "Are you kidding me? What do I look like? A stupid little girl who will giggle at everything you say and immediately agree to it? No! I am an agent of SHIELD, one of the top intelligence and defense agencies in the world. I have been trained by the top spies and have completed college under several different identities. I am not one for you to order around like I have no brain."

He stared at me incredulously. "You dare to defy the King of this world?"

"No, I dare to defy you, Loki, the trickster god, the god of lies. Son of Asgard and Jhotenhiem. Brother of Thor." He let his anger become visible. With a split second decision, I brought my hands up in a defensive measure. He attacked me, not thinking about what he was doing, but giving in to his anger instead. I wish I could say that I held my own, but I didn't. He beat me bloody. I was pinned against a wall, slowly sliding down it. I didn't want to show him how much he hurt me. I would be strong.

He sneered at me. "Pathetic mortal." I saw him turn around and suddenly there was a flash of green. It took a moment for my eyes to stop watering when I heard a roar. The Hulk had come. I slowly got up, knowing that one wrong move could bring his rage on me. When I was finally standing, I saw Loki just groaning on the floor. The Hulk took one look at him and said, "Puny God." The Hulk then noticed me. He nodded at me, almost as if Dr. Banner was telling him that I was a friend. I warily nodded back and started to cautiously walk over to where Loki was laying.

When I arrived to where Loki was, I pulled out my gun. I held it close to my body, remembering how I was told that if I were to hold it away from my body, like cops do in movies or television shows, its easier for someone to move it out of the way or take it from me. I arrived in his line of sight. He glanced up at me. I was silent. He opened his mouth. I prepared for his anger and "wit" to spew out. Instead, he let out a groan of pain. I looked around the room and noticed that Tony had bar stools. I walked over to one, never letting my eyes leave Loki's form. I grabbed at the stool, or at least where I hope it was, and missed it, almost falling over. Still, Loki didn't move or do anything.

I finally managed to grab one of the stools and brought it over to where I could watch Loki. We sat there in silence for a while.

"Why do you wish to be king of Midgard, Loki? You think we're all pathetic. Why would you care to rule us?"

He let out a weak laugh. "Darling, you can blame Thor for this. He has declared himself "protector" of this realm all because of his precious lady love."

"Dr. Foster."

"Yes. You all are pathetic. I simply wish to take from Thor what he took from me." I got off my stool and helped him sit up, slightly. "Thank you, Darling."

"Why do you call me that?"

He looked at me, contemplating whether or not to answer that question. "Because, of all the mortals I have seen or met, you are different couldn't be controlled by my scepter, and you saw right through my illusions."

"Is that why you kidnapped me?"

"Partially. Plus, I knew that without you, the soldier would be lost. He has an affection for you, his weakness."

I stopped. I was trying to decide whether or not Loki was lying to me. I couldn't sense deception in him, but that meant little when one regards Loki.

"Melody? Can you hear me?"

"Steve? I have Loki. We're in Stark's tower. What's going on?"

"Board of directors just fired a nuke at New York," I heard Clint say. "Fury just let me know."

"JARVIS, give me two private channels, please."

"Of course, Miss Barton."

"Clint, what does this mean?"

"It means that this is good bye, baby sis. I'm sorry for trying to control your life. I just wanted to make up for leaving you with our parents and then not coming and getting you after they died. I love you."

"JARVIS. Close that channel now, please."

"Yes, ma'am."

"Steve, can you hear me?"

"Melody? Get out of Stark Tower! I can see the nuke, it's headed that way! Have Loki teleport you, just get out of there."

"Steve, I'm not leaving you. Or the rest of the team."

"I don't care. Melody, you have to get out of here."

I looked out the window and saw the nuke headed right towards me. "Steve, you can't tell me to leave you. I refuse. Good bye, Steve. I wish we had more time together."

Just before the nuke hit the window, it swept upwards. I saw Tony in his armor gripping the nuke, guiding up towards the portal. "Steve, Tony has the nuke!"

"What?"

"He's guiding the nuke to the portal." I recalled hearing Nat saying that she could shut the portal down. "Tell Nat to wait to shut the portal down. And Steve, get here quickly, please." I glanced over my shoulder at Loki and saw that he was still there. I shut off my comm unit. "Why didn't you run away when you had the chance?"

"Honestly, I couldn't, even if I wanted to. My pain is blocking my magic right now."

"Oh." I sat back down and waited for Steve to get here. Loki laid back down, doing who knows what. He closed his eyes and seemed to be waiting for something.

"It was very sweet what you were telling the soldier," he suddenly said. "You must love him very much to refuse to leave."

"It's not love..."

"It is from where I'm sitting."

"You're laying down."

"My point still remains."

I started to ignore what he was saying and looked out what remained of the window at the city I once called home.
