Chapter 9: It's Him

PREVIOUSLY. . .

After putting the dirty dishes in there rightful place, Paul walked up to Ash asking him if he was ready to go. Ash noded, then called out to Pikachu who took his place on his master's shoulder. "Alright, first to the lab, then to Viridian City for our date." Ash said with a smile.

Paul smile back and nodded. "Let's go."

And with that they left for there date.

"Hello! Is anyone home?" Ash yelled as he knocked on Professor Oak's lab.

Seconds later, the door opened to reveal, not Professor Oak, but his grandson. Gary.

Ash's heart stopped from fear as he looked up at Gary. But, it didn't seem that Gary noticed the look that Ash has given him. All Gary did was smile down at Ash, after he looked toward Paul with a glare on his face, that Paul surely returned back.

"Hey, Ash. It's nice to see you. What are you doing here?" he asked.

Ash spoke nervously, "H-hey, G-gary. Um...is Professor Oak here?"

Gary gave a nod and said, "He is, but he's feeding the Pokémon outside right now. Do you want me to go and get him?"

Ash quickly shook his head no and said, "No! No, that's fine. . .I was just going to ask him if he could watch Pikachu, while me and Paul are away."

Gary took a quick glance at Paul, and they exchanged a quick glare before Gary turned back to Ash with a smile on his face. "Oh, really. What are you guys gonna do there?" he asked.

Paul stepped up to wrap an arm around Ash's waist, "We're going out on a date." he said firmly.

Gary tried really hard not to glare at Paul. "W-well..." he looked at Pikachu, and gave a sigh. "I guess I could look after Pikachu for you."

Ash gave a grin, forgetting all about his fears. "Really? That's great!" He then took Pikachu off his shoulder and placed him in Gary's awaiting arms. "Thanks, Gary."

Gary looked at Pikachu, and noticed that the electric mouse looked at him with pure hatred. And his eyes went wide.

Ash got a look of concern and asked, "Gary, is something wrong?"

Gary gave a smile, "No, everything is fine. You go on your..." he looked at Paul, and then back to Ash, "date, and I'll take care of Pikachu here, alright?"

Ash gave him one of his beautiful smiles, "Okay. Thanks, Gary! See ya later, Pikachu!"

Viridian City

Ash looked around and gasped. Surrounding the City were trees that lead to the forest from in which they had just arrived from. But between the streets and roads, their were patched of trees to make it look prettier. Ash could see the many buildings. He could hear the sounds of the children playing in nearby park. He could also hear the Pokémon that were playing along with the children. And the parents to one another.

"Wow," Ash whispered for Paul to hear, "I can't believe I forgot about this place. . ."

Paul gave the ebony-haired boy a sympathetic smile. He put an arm around the smaller boy shoulders and said, "It's alright, Ash. Viridian City isn't that great, anyways. Just wait until I take you back to Veilstone."

Ash looked up at Paul, "Veilstone? You mean the place where you're from?" he asked.

Paul nodded. "Yep. And you can meet Reggie, my brother. You always used to compare me with him. Y'know, saying that I am a ll uptight and everything."

Ash smiled. "Well, from what I've seen. You do act a little uptight."

Paul gave a playful scowl. He tightened the arm that was around the boy's shoulders and said, "I am not!"

Ash gave a chuckle. "Yeah, you are."

"Are we going to start this again? Last time we did this, we ended fighting for three days." Paul said remembering the fight.

"Really? You can't take a joke, Paul." Ash said playfully.

Paul smirked, but didn't say anything. He kissed Ash's temple and asked, "So, where would like to go first for our date?"

The smaller boy blushed. "W-well. . .why don't we just look around for a while?"

Paul nodded. "Okay, and while we're at it, we could go get some ice-cream."

Ash smiled. "Okay."

So after much time walking around and getting some ice-cream, they finally stopped for a break at Viridian's Central Park. It was now around five and there were still many children playing around with there parents watching them from the benches while they talked to each other.

"Let's go sit over there." Paul said, pointing to an empty bench.

They sat there, finishing there ice-cream and just speaking to each other about nothing in particular. Ash stared at the children watching them playing an laughing with each other. Ash smiled at them, wondering what it would be like to be parents themselves.

"Hey, Paul?" Ash turned to Paul and Paul turned to him, "Did we ever talk about having children?"

Paul's eyes widened. "Children?"

Ash nodded. "Yeah. Y'know, children. Us being parents."

Paul looked up to the sky. "Um, I guess we have."

"You guess? What do you mean?" Ash asked.

"Well, we never real took it seriously. I mean we have talked about having children, but not like...starting searching on how to adopt. Or where we're going to raise them anything like that. We decided to just wait a little longer, since you're champion. We never really actually thought about it." Paul said.

"Oh. Well. . .would you like to?" Ash asked.

Paul blushed, and then looked down to the ground. "Well, I have thought about it. I mean we're getting pretty old."

"What?! We're not old! We're 20 years old!" Ash yelled.

"Right now, yeah. But, once we actually start to think about it, I don't know, we might in our late 30's or something! I don't want our kids calling us old!" Paul said.

Ash smiled, "Kids? So you would want more than one?"

Paul's face reddened, "W-well, I-if you want. I mean, I would like more than one. I mean-"

Paul was interrupted by someone who gave a cough to get there attention. They both turned to see several people surrounding them from all directions. They didn't seem to be aware of it at all. Ash looked around, not expecting to be surrounded. Paul already knew what was going to happen. The mauve-haired boy gave a sigh, crossed his arms, and leaned against the back on the bench.

A young lady spoke up, "Um, hi. Do you have to be Ash Ketchum?"

Ash blinked, not knowing why she would ask, "Uh, yeah. Yeah, I am."

And as if on cue, all the girl squealed, and the fan boys looked at each other then turned back.

"Oh my gosh! It's Ash Ketchum!"

"It's really him!"

"Ash, can I have your autograph?!"

"It's him! It's the champion!"

And many more screams, came from all over the park. Ash could even see the flashes of cameras going off. And Ash wondered what the heck was going on. Ash turned to Paul, to see if he knew what the heck was going on. Paul looked at Ash, and noticed the clueless look on his boyfriend's face. He rolled his eyes.

"Your the champion, Ash. Remember, you're famous." he said.

And Ash's eyes widened. He totally forgot. So, he had to go through this every time he left his house? Ash was now kinda glad he didn't remember anything.

"Ash, can I take a picture with you?" the girl who had spoken with him before asked with a camera suddenly in her possession.

"Uh, yeah. Sure." Ash said.

After Ash said those words, he was brought to his feet by the girl. And next thing you know were flashes. And people grabbing onto his arms for the next picture with another insane fan. And just when the flashes when off, Ash could already think of what the pictures would look like. Him giving his fans surprised looks.

Paul just watched in the side lines with his arms crossed in front of his chest. Paul was overly protective of Ash when he was found surrounded by fans. But, after having yet another fight with his brown-eyed boyfriend, he just stayed from a far and watched Ash deal with his fans.

But, obviously, this Ash didn't have a clue on how to handle his fans. After being the champion for a little over three years, Ash finally go tht e hang of handling his fans. But, this wasn't that Ash. And he hated seeing Ash in a predicament.

And with his famous Paul scowl on his face, he walked right up to where Ash was giving his autograph to one of his fans. The mauve-haired boy put an arm around the other smaller boy and dragged him back to the bench in which they were sitting on before.

"Hey!"

"Who do you thin you are?!"

"Hey, that's Paul!"

"It's the Champion's boyfriend!"

"Paul!"

"Can we have your autograph?!"

Came more screaming then before. Paul hated it. He hated the loudness of them. He hated how the flashes of the shutters always made him close his eyes or squint them. He hated when they push things in front of you so you can sign it for them. He hated it all. It's the one downside about dating the Pokémon Champion of the world. But, he would endure it. If it meant he could spend the rest of his life with the one and only one he loves.

And then more screaming came. Some personal, some not.

"When are you two getting married?!"

"Are you gonna have kids?!"

"Are you guys out on a date?"

"Ash! Is it true that you lost your memory?!"

And that was the last straw for Paul. . .

"Enough!" he yelled as loud as he could.

And then, everything went silent.

Paul closed his eyes, gave a sigh, and then opened them again.

"Yes, we are on a date. And we would like to have it in peace." he said.

The fans stayed silent.

And through the whole thing, all Ash could do was stare at the boy. Then, he smiled. He took Paul's hand in his and turned back to his crazed fans as Paul took his turn to look at Ash.

"And yes, it is true that I lost my memory." he said.

And once again, there was an uproar. People couldn't believe that something like this happened to there champion.

Ash held up a hand, and his fans silenced.

"Why I lost my memory is confidential. Only those who are my family know, and I would like to keep it that way. But, I can ensure that I am healing well, and I will get my memory back. There is no doubt about it." Ash said with confidence.

There were a few raised hand. Ash pointed to one of the guys up front.

"Are you still able to battle?"

Ash smiled and gave a nod. "I can still battle. Even though I forgot what Pokémon was. I was still able to battle and win with my Pikachu against Paul here." Ash turned to Paul and then back, "I pretty much stunned myself if I do say so. I mean, I didn't even know I was that good!"

And got a some laughs.

"Anyways, as Paul said, we are on a date and we would like to enjoy like regular people. So please keep a distance. I really want to enjoy myself." he said.

And as if on cue, everyone said there okay and left.

The couple turned to each other with a smile on their faces.

Ash grinned, "Well, wasn't that fun?"

Paul gave a chuckle, "Yeah. Super fun." he said with an eye roll.

"Anyways, so where to now?" Ash asked.

Paul contemplated on what to do next.

"Well, I did say let's have dinner here...But, why not just making something back at your place? Is that okay with you?" Paul said.

Ash seemed to think about it as well.

"Mmm. . .okay. After what happened just now, I wouldn't want to stay that long either. I'll with dinner." Ash said.

Paul gave a smile, and hand-in-hand, started there long walk back to Pallet Town.

They both just started talking about random things in general. There were almost on the outskirts of Pallet Town.

"So, Paul?" Ash said.

"Yes, Ash?" Paul said back.

Ash gave a smile. "So what do you do for a living? You never told me what you do."

"Well. . .y'know how I told you that my brother Reggie is Pokémon caretaker?" he continued when Ash gave a nod, "Well, I'm training to be one of those as well. But at a higher rank."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I'm also studying to be a healer, too. So like another Nurse Jenny, but I use natural herbs and spices to heal Pokémon rather than the artificial potions. Plus, using herbs and such are also a good way to make your Pokémon healthier quicker the more your Pokémon is used to them."

"Oh, so your training in like the stuff Brock is doing?" Ash asked.

"Yeah, sort of. But, in a more natural way. I don't really know how to explain it. You should come watch one of the classes one time. Reggie sometimes comes along. Of course, we're on break right now, but I'm going back in a couple of months. Summer vacation has just started." Paul said.

Ash smiled and nodded. He would like to go one day.

Ash and Paul past some bushes and came to a rather strange clearing. It looked as if something huge had crashed down right from the sky. And to Ash this place seemed so familiar to him. He just can't remember where...

After ten minutes in the sky, Ash noticed something coming towards him. It was too late to dodge it. They were hit and came crashing into the forest below them.Fortunately, they survived the landing with only minor scratches. "Are you okay, Charizard?" Ash asked, concerned since it just battled...

"Ash? What's wrong? Are you okay?" Paul asked.

Ash looked into Paul's eyes, and noticed that they were full of concern. Ash turned back to the scene and turned to a familiar tree...

The masked man got closer and closer. Ash backed up farther away to avoid him, but then was against a tree. After a while he stood right in front of Ash. The man pushed Ash to the ground. Ash tried to move away, but was tied by a rope by his hands from the back, and he put something around his mouth to stop him from screaming.

"Ash?" Paul said again.

Ash just stared. And after what seemed like forever to Paul, the smaller boy finally spoke.

"Paul?" Ash said, still staring at the tree.

"What is it, Ash? Is something wrong?" Paul was becoming hysterical.

"Paul. . .it was here...it was here..."

Paul got a look of complete confusion. "It was here? What was here?"

But all Ash said was, "It was here..."

Paul's eyes widened. Ash couldn't mean that it was here, could he? The place where he was raped, and shot.

Ash got on his back and looked at the man. The man didn't notice and took of his mask, using it to wipe himself clean. He revealed his face and Ash gasped when he knew who we was. The man heard the gasp and turned around. He took out a pistol and held it up to Ash. "Goodbye, Ashy-boy…"

"Ashy-boy. . ."

Paul's eyes widened even more. He didn't want to believe what he was hearing. "What?"

"He called me Ashy-boy. . ."

And Paul's widened eyes turned into one of pure hatred. "Gary. . ."
