Chapter Three:
Layla sighed as she took her seat in the classroom that was quickly becoming too familiar to her. The detention room was something she thought she would never see before, let alone twice! Ugh, it was Warrens fault…again. If he hadn't been…and maybe if she hadn't…well…okay so it was both of them, but the fact of the matter is that he started it! And now she was sitting in the classroom being glared at by a girl that was a grade above her for a reason she could not decipher.
She really wished Warren would show up soon! People tended to stop staring at her when she was with him…actually, they stared at them as well, but they would never dare to glare at her in his presents.
On a positive note, there was no smelly guy here this time! She almost smiled at that. When she was here last, the guy had purposely tried to stink up the place and it caused Layla to be extremely nauseous. If Warren hadn't of shown up when he did, she was sure she would have passed out from the smell soon enough. But he wasn't here, so Layla could breathe easy now. Layla smirked at her own joke and made a note to tell Warren the pun later when he walked her home. He was going to hate it! Layla could almost see him roll his eyes and make a horrible comment about the joke, but she could also picture the slight upturn of his lips as he tried to hide his amusement.
Layla tried not to look at the girl that was glaring, she honestly did, but after a minute the glare continued to get even more intense. With a resigned sigh, Layla put on her best glare and turned her head and looked back at the girl. "What?"
She didn't say anything for a moment, just continued to glare. Layla was quickly becoming sick of this! "Do you have a problem?" Layla asked in her best bitch voice. Turns out Magentas lessons were paying off!
"Yes," the girl finally said as she looked Layla up and down. "You!"
"What about me?"
"You'll never be enough for him." She said calmly, the glare finally leaving her face.
Layla's glare left her face and her eyes grew wide in shock. Was she talking about Warren? What did she mean when she said 'enough' for him? Her brows furrowed as she thought it over and the girl just sniggered at her and shook her head in some sort of amusement, but Layla couldn't find amusement in this situation.
"You don't even know what I am talking about do you?" The girl almost laughed at her, and Layla, again, felt angry. "A guy like Warren needs something more than hugs and kisses to fulfill him."
Confused Layla looked down at her desk. Fulfill him? Was she talking about…sex? Was that what she meant? Surly she couldn't mean that! Because, they were still in high school, they were still getting to know one another, they hadn't even been dating that long! And what about the hugs and kisses comment? Warren seemed to like them! He never pushed her for more…although they did have a tendency to get a little too carried away, thus how she ended up in detention in the first place, but he never pushed her or made her feel pressure in anyway.
The girl actually laughed, "You realize that Warren isn't a virgin like you right? And pretty soon he's going to want to do more than just make-out in the hallways."
While Layla never really thought about him being a virgin, she never really considered the fact that he might want to have sex with his girlfriend. Of course she didn't think he never had sex before, he probably had sex many times before (she tried not to cringe at the image) but she thought he understood that she was a virgin and wasn't ready for anything like that just yet.
Warren was literally her first boyfriend! There had never been anyone else, but him…well and Will, but he didn't count, he was a misguided crush. Layla could not believe this girl was really saying this too her. She knew nothing about her or Warren! She didn't know what went on in their relationship! For all this girl knew, she and Warren could have been having intercourse every night!
She found herself getting very angry. Layla tried to calm herself she really did, but this girl just kept looking at her with this smug smirk on her face as if she had just won first place or something. Layla could see it all over the older girls face, she was hoping to cause a riff in their relationship; Layla was not going to have it! She was tired of people underestimating her; she was tired of people seeing her as just a 'girl' or just a 'sidekick'. And now she had people thinking that she was not enough for Warren as well!
Layla had had enough!
Layla glowered at the girl, "You know nothing about him! Or me for that matter so shut and stay out of my business and MY relationship with Warren!" Layla was breathing heavily now, worked up and feeling a little giddy. "You know what I think; I think you are just jealous that Warren didn't even look twice at you, that is, if you could get him to look at you once! Next time you stick your nose in my business, try to remember that he chose ME and not you or anyone else." Layla turned her head, and then turned it back just as fast, "And for your information, Warren and I are happy together! Extremely happy!"
With that said, Layla huffed and turned her head, arms crossed over her chest and her fact scrunched up into a vicious scowl. "Well that was interesting," She heard from behind her and she frown even more when she heard the amusement in his voice. He took the seat next to her and leaned back as if he didn't have a care in the world. "Now, I only heard that last bit of that little rant, but why is it important that that girl you were yelling at know that we are extremely happy together?"
"It just is," Layla nearly hissed at him.
Warren raised an eyebrow in surprise at her. Then he looked over to the girl who Layla had been practically yelling at and glowered at her. The girl was still looking in their direction but she looked away when she saw Warren's glare. Warren looked back at Layla and leaned closer to her, "Is something wrong?"
"Everything is just fine Warren."
His eyes grew bigger at her tone and then he frowned in annoyance, "Yeah, right."
Before Layla knew what was happening, Warren picked up Layla's bag, and grabbed her hand as he stood up from his seat. "What are you doing?" Layla asked in surprise.
"WE are leaving."
"But-"
"Now," he cut off her objection.
That didn't stop Layla in the least, "We have detention Warren, we can't just leave!" She cried as he began to pull her out of the classroom.
"Sure we can, watch." Warren continued to practically drag Layla out into the hall, but his grip on her was not painful but it was practically unbreakable.
Once he had her out of the classroom he proceeded to lead her down the hallway. "Warren, I can walk for myself!" Layla cried as she tugged against his hold again. He didn't say anything to her, but she knew he heard her from the way he frowned. When he didn't let go of her hand, she did the only thing she could think of doing. Layla halted in her steps and then let her body relax and crumble to the floor.
Warren, not expecting to feel her entire weight collapse to the floor, released her and turned to face her in shock. Before she could so much as sit up on the floor, Warren recovered quicker and had leant forward and grabbed her waist and then flung her over his shoulder. He smirked as she let out an outraged shriek. "Warren! You put me down this instant!"
He ignored her as he continued to strut down the wall as if nothing was happening and the loiterers were not staring at them as they passed.
Layla looked around the halls for someone brave enough to stop Warren, but as she looked around she did not see anyone willing to help her. She turned her head to the other side and saw Magenta leaning against a wall staring at her in amusement. "Aren't you going to help me?"
Magenta tilted her head to the side in thought, "No, I don't think so."
Layla's mouth fell open in shock, "I'm your best friend! A best friend is supposed to help me when I am in need. I am in need now. I am being kidnapped. He's taking me hostage!" Warren actually chuckled at that, but kept walking passed Magenta.
Magenta just laughed, "Man, if I were to have been taken hostage by someone who was my boyfriend, I certainly wouldn't be complaining. I think you're just being dramatic." She pulled away from the wall and stepped forward a little in order for Layla to see her wave goodbye to her.
Layla stuck her tongue out at her childishly. Mage just smile even more and called out, "I'll call you tonight!"
Warren turned the corner and she no longer saw anyone who would be willing to assist her. She groaned in defeat and finally stopped struggling against her boyfriend.
It was a few minutes later Warren finally stopped and set her down on her feet. She crossed her arms and glared at him. He just smirked at sat down on the bench where she had grabbed his hand when she wanted to make Will jealous. "Now, you can tell me what is wrong."
"Nothing is wrong Warren. Well, aside from the fact we are supposed to be in detention, I am perfectly fine."
Warren nodded in fake understanding. "Right and that is why the usually calm Layla I know was yelling at this random girl." Warren looked at her for a moment and when it was clear she was not going to say anything he reached forward and took his hand in his, "You know, you can tell me. I won't judge."
Layla rolled her eyes, but nodded her head. After a moment she sighed and then sat down next to him. "I just…she said…" she trialed off not knowing what to say. Instead, she leaned her head against his shoulder and breathed out a loud sigh.
"What did she say?" Warren asked in confusion.
"She just said some stuff about us and I didn't like it," Layla said as if it should explain everything.
Annoyed with how cryptic she was being he asked her impatiently, "What the hell did she say?"
Layla gave up. She honestly didn't want to talk about it but she knew that Warren would push the issue and not give in until she finally told him what happened. It was better that he was actually asking her instead of picking a fight with her to get her to spill her guts.
Taking a breath Layla said, "Do you like baseball?" Well, this wasn't how she wanted to approach the subject, but if it gets the job done then she would take it.
Warren looked so confused it was adorable. "What does baseball have to do with this?"
She bit her lip and looked down at her hand that was still held by his. "I have only really been to first base, Warren." She said quietly. Layla had said it so quietly that Warren almost missed it. His confusion grew even more, but then he got it. Realization crossed his face and then he frowned again.
"What does that have to do with anything?"
Layla let go of his hand and stood up, "It has everything to do with anything."
Warren looked even more confused, "That makes absolutely no sense."
Layla started to pace, "Look, I have only ever been to first base. And what we took part in earlier was as close to second base as I have ever been. And I know that you have been to second base, hell you've been to third and you have taken it all the way home…probably many times…"
Warren was trying to keep up with her but her pacing was really distracting, nonetheless when what she was saying finally sank into his brain, he stood up and glowered at her, "Did you just call me a whore?"
Layla stared at him in shock, "What! No!"
"Are you sure, because it sounds like that to me," Warren accused.
"No," Oh, gosh it did sound like that now that Layla realized that she was saying. She let out a strange noise of irritation that Warren never heard before and buried her face in her hands. Keeping her face hidden she tried again, "I'm not ready to go all the way home Warren. I feel comfortable at first and maybe if we ease on into it, I'll enjoy going to second with you."
Understanding finally hit him, "Layla, I'm not asking for sex. We haven't even been going out that long. And as to your comment about 'many times', I'm flattered. But I've only had sex once."
She shot him a skeptical look, and he raised an eyebrow back at her. "Really?"
Warren grinned at her, "I know, from the way you look at me sometimes I feel like I should be a sex machine."
Layla giggled and rolled her eyes at him, "Oh, shut up." She pushed his shoulder and he grinned back at her boyishly.
"I see the way you look at me, like I'm some piece of man meat."
She laughed out loud this time, "Oh do I?"
Warren nodded his head in affirmative and grinned at her, "And I wouldn't have it any other way." Before she realized what he was doing, she felt his hand wrap around her waist and he pulled her up against him. He leaned down and kissed and after a moment, she kissed him back.
She pulled back before it got any more heated and she looked up at him, "So…for now you're okay with just hugs and kisses?"
He looked down at her, a sarcastic comment at the tip of his tongue, but something in her eyes made him stop. Warren gave her a crooked smile and whispered, "I love our hugs and kisses."
Layla looked down with a blush and tried to stifle how giddy she felt at the intimacy of the moment. She took a deep breath and looked up at him from below her lashes with a smile of her own and whispered back, "They are pretty great, huh?"
Warren groaned and leaned back in exaggeration, "You're killing me here."
Layla laughed and hugged him as he wrapped his other arm over her shoulders. They stood like that for a couple of minutes when Warren broke the silence, "So, where did all this come from anyways?"
"Umm."
I am so sorry for how long this chapter took me to get to you. I know, I know I do it many times and I feel terrible about. But, unlike my other two in-progress stories, I refuse to give up on this one!
Let me know what you think by reviewing and I PROMISE I will update faster.
