Chapter Seven:
Layla knocked on Will's door the next day at three in the afternoon. Magenta had just left her house and now was the time for her to compare what she learned from Mage to what Will had to say about their date.
Last night, Mage wasn't the most forthcoming with her date, but after Warren left she seemed to open up a little and talked about how Will opened the door for her at the restaurant, talked to the waitress so that she didn't have to, let her steal a fry off his plate even though she had her own food, and when he walked her home (Layla's house) he kissed her on the cheek and blushed as he walked away.
Now she just needs to know what Will was thinking and get him to agree to ask Mage out again.
"What are you doing here?" Will asked when he opened the door.
Layla frowned at him, "Am I not allowed to come over to my best friend's house anymore?"
Will rolled his eyes at her, "I meant what are you doing here, knocking on the door when you usually climb the tree and knock on my window?"
Layla hid her smirk, "Well, I didn't know if you were alone or anything…"
She laughed when Will huffed and pulled her into the house with an annoyed sound.
"I just didn't want to interrupt," She said through her laughter as he closed the door and lead her into the living room where she plopped down on the couch and smiled over at him.
"What," he asked nervously.
"Oh, nothing." Layla said as she leaned back and smirked, "I just remembered that you never liked it when people would take food off your plate."
Will gulped and nodded, "I don't."
"That's strange," Layla commented innocently. "Magenta said she ate fries off your plate last night."
Silence.
"Maybe you just don't like it when people who aren't Mage take food off your plate," she decided to give him a bone. She wanted to toy with him, not embarrass him…much.
"I, um, look….she was my date and I was trying to impress her." Will finally admitted.
"So when you go on your next date, are you going to tell her not to eat any more food off your plate?" She raised her eyebrow at him.
Will glanced away and Layla knew the answer without him having to tell her. She laughed softly. "I love this."
"Embarrassing me?"
Layla smiled, "Well, that and the fact my two best friends are dating and I get to enjoy tormenting them."
Will groaned and shook his head at her, "I didn't give you grief about Warren."
"Yeah, cause I would have beat you up," Layla shrugged at him and smiled. "Or Warren."
"I could sick Magenta on you," Will said with narrowed eyes.
Layla actually laughed at him and soon he was laughing with her. They both knew that Will wouldn't do that and Magenta would most likely turn against him then turn against Layla.
"So, are you going to ask her out again?"
Will cleared his throat and looked at her smugly, "I already did. We're going to see the play at school together. She told me she wants to support Ethan and make fun of him at the same time. We're going together."
Layla smiled at him and was about to say something before the phone rang.
Will jumped up, happy to be away from Layla even if it was to answer the phone. "Hello," he waited as he listened to the other end of the line. "That sounds like fun…..well she's here so I can ask her."
He turned and faced her, "Ethan wants to know if you want to go to the movies. He said that Mage and Zach already agreed to go and so did Warren."
Layla looked shocked, "How did that happen?"
"Layla wants to know how you got Warren to agree…and so do I," Will said to Ethan over the phone. "He said he told Warren that you already agreed to go to the movies."
Layla smiled with an eye roll. "Looks like I have to go now," she griped playfully. Will winked at her as he listened to Ethan.
"Okay, we'll be there as soon as we can. No we're not going to fly."
After he hung up, she stood up and bounced on the balls of her feet, "What movie are we seeing?" Will shrugged and looked away. She just smiled as she followed him to the door.
….
…..
…..
"We're not watching that movie, Meat Head!" They heard before they even rounded the corner to the ticket stand.
"I say we are," Warren growled back at her.
"I say we aren't!"
"OKAY," Zach called trying to defuse the situation.
Layla stopped at the corner and listened to them talk as Will looked at her in confusion. She put a hand to her lips and shook her head. They both waited.
"Ethan, Zach: tell him that he's being stupid. There is no way were going to see that movie. It has too much blood in it!"
"I…" Ethan said but was cut off.
"Like they want to go with you and watch that stupid movie about aliens." Warren scoffed at her.
"Well," Zach said.
"Layla doesn't even like scary movies," Magenta called out triumphantly.
"Duh," Warren deadpanned back to her.
If she were there with them, she knew that Warren would have his eyebrows raised and Magenta would be rolling her eyes. She and Will shared a look; they both rolled their eyes at his remark.
"Let me get this straight, you want to watch a horror movie with Layla just so she will cuddle with you? Not happening. Cuddle in the alien movie. Ethan and Zach want to watch the movie with me and that is what we're watching."
"Fine," Warren growled. "Layla and I will see the horror movie without you then."
"I was actually hoping we could all watch a movie together," Ethan said hesitantly.
"Layla would never agree to that."
"You obviously don't know your 'best friend' very well, then."
Layla shook her head and stepped around the corner. "I was actually hoping to watch the new Disney Pixar movie," Layla said with a bright smile on her face as she approached them.
"Yeah," Will agreed from next to her. "It looks seriously cute."
Layla and everyone shot him a look at the word 'cute' and she shrugged at them.
"I have been wondering about that movie," Ethan said hesitantly.
"But," Magenta said in shock.
Zach nodded, "It looks really good. Let's go get tickets."
"I'm not going to see a cartoon," Warren said with crossed arms.
Layla walked up to him and slipped her arm through his, "It's an animation and if you get scare you can always cuddle up to me."
Everyone but Layla and Warren laughed at them as she led him in to theater.
