Chapter 6: Broken Leaves

Natsu's whole body went stiff. The sound vibrated through his mind. Muscles quivered in shock. Color drained from his face. Dark eyes dulled. "Lucy?" he muttered.

"A gunshot!" Gray gasped.

"It came from the woods!" Happy exclaimed.

"The air; it tastes like gun powder." Wendy gulped.

"It can't have been..." Erza's voice slowly downed out.

"LUCY!" Natsu wailed, bursting into life. Everyone jumped back into the moment as the pink-haired boy broke into a sprint. Pink-hair faded into a blur as he disappeared into the woods. Seconds after, they were all sprinting after him.

The dragon slayer ran and ran. Leaping over fallen trees or burning through thick shrubbery and fallen vines, nothing was stopping him from getting to her.

It was his fault! Why did he let her go? She was out of his sight for a split second and then she was gone. He got too involved in the fight and became so unaware of the celestial mage's vacancy.

A soft, sweet smell of vanilla and strawberries filled his nose. She was close. But the closer he got, the stronger the stench of gun power became. The horrible blunt scent gripped around his heart, trying to squeeze it as tight as it could.

The dragon slayer caught a flash of gold hidden within the green home of the trees. There was no doubt that was Lucy.

Bursting onto the scene, her blonde undamaged face snapped towards him. Relief spread through like finding water in a desert.

As he finally took in the view, he was confused by the situation and easily angered. Hiro pointed a gun towards the larger dark-haired man, and Lucy stood between them. Soft, small hands wrapped around Hiro's shaking hands. Eyes filled with blind rage. The bearded man stood haughtily behind the blonde girl, a playful smile tugging at the corners of his cracked lips, revealing his abnormally white teeth.

What frustrated the pink-haired boy most, was the celestial wizard. Her knees trembled, her body shook, cold sweat ran down her ice white cheeks.

Reverting her gaze to their suited employer, she released a deep, shaking sigh. " . Stop." She commanded. Natsu was surprised at Lucy's tone. He never would have thought she could be so stern. Of course, he had seen her stern before when she was mad at him, but she was on a whole new level.

Cool, dark eyes glared deep into the man's warm orbs. People who had such a glare could never be objected to. Such a piercing gaze peering straight into your core. It sent icy shivers skating down his spine. Hiro tried his best to avoid her eye contact. I was futile. One flicker to her sharp, unnerving gaze, and he was locked in like a lamb cornered by a hungry lion. He wasn't going anywhere.

Slowly, his body relieved. Anger drained out his body, as he gun slowly lowered. Natsu was outstanded. How could someone whose eyes were fulled with such blinding rage, calm so suddenly? All of Hiro's strength sapped out of him, as he collapsed to the floor. Crisp leaves crumbled underneath his limp weight.

Lucy slowly closed her eyes, staying completely still. Fingers clasped so tightly around the gun, they turned white. All her muscles tensed, holding her body completely and utterly still. If Natsu hadn't known better, he'd say she was just like a statue. The only movement around her, as from the mages behind Natsu.

Natsu was so engrossed by the movement, he failed to notice the other's arrivals. Wendy rushed to the collapsed man besides the stiff Lucy, while Gray apprehended the gang leader. Natsu slowly approached the blond celestial wizard. "Lucy?" he whispered. Strangely, Natsu felt conscious of a small knot pulling at his gut. Something wasn't right.

"Hey Luce, you got him. Well done!" Happy cheered coming over to the frozen stellar mage. "Lucy?" Happy came to an abrupt stop above her head. Big black eyes watched the girl assessing.

"Knock me out, Natsu!" The blond mage growled, just loud enough for the slayer to hear.

"What?" he asked in surprise. Surely, he had misheard. Then again, his eyes examined her. Fists clenched tight until they were almost white, teeth gritted against each other. Deep heavy breathing wheezed in and out her trembling lips. Her body shook violently, knees shivering. "Lucy, are you alright?"

"Knock...me out!" Her voice snapped in a whimper.

"Lucy, what do you mean?" He burst, loud enough to catch everyone's attention. Eyes shot their way in concern, catching sight of the dumbstruck slayer glaring in utter dismay at the stiff celestial mage. The slayer couldn't quite catch sight of her eyes but he knew tears were pouring from them. Salt drifted through the air as inaudible droplets of water splashed against the dry forest floor.

"Lucy, you're scaring me!" Happy whined, watching the girl with worrisome eyes.

"I can't control it." She hissed.

"Control what?" Natsu exclaimed, his own fists tightening in frustration at his sides.

"The hate. I- I can't stop it." Lucy shook her head, her blonde hair shaking in the autumn breeze over her eyes.

"The hate? What are you talking about?" Natsu fought back, feeling the urge to grab and shake her. There was something telling him it wasn't a good idea.

"He killed Lilianna!" She squealed. The sickening feeling in Natsu's gut squeezed tighter making him feel read to vomit. His heart thumped against his ribs like he was getting punched in the chest. His breath barely made it in and out his lungs. What was wrong with Lucy.

"But I thought Lilianna was-" Natsu thought, remembering saying something about travelling.

"NO!" Lucy screamed, slowly raising her head. He saw it; The rage. It burned in unbelievable fury inside her almost pitch-black eyes. A threatening, murderous aura exploded into the air around her. Natsu staggered back a step in shock. Onyx eyes stared at the blonde in shock.

Blazing jet eyes glared forward, locking onto the fear-stricken dark-haired man, besides Gray. "He killed Lilianna!" She bellowed, lifting the black revolver clasped in her hands. The hammer pulled back with a swift click. A thin, sinister smile twisted on Lucy's lips as she stared blindly ahead of her. Cold tears ran down her cheeks, as her finger rolled over the trigger.

BANG

The gun released the bullet. Gun powder tainted the air. Lucy's smile faded. The bullet drove high into the sky.

Natsu's hands clamped tightly on Lucy's wrists, raising them up above her head. Gray had knocked the man to the floor. Erza had equipped into her armadillo armor, shielding the ice mage and gang leader.

Lucy glared at the man, more or less okay, from over the fire mage's shoulder. The dark eyes slowly trailed back to the dragon slayer stood inches from her. Onyx eyes stared down at her, completely stunned and horrified. His chest rose and fell quickly, panting like he'd run a marathon. His pulse hammered like a jack hammer through his veins.

"What did you do?" Lucy hissed.

"Lucy?" Natsu cautiously spoke, his voice barely a whisper. "I don't know what's going on, but I won't let you kill him." His hands squeezed tighter around her thin wrists.

"YOU IDIOT!" She screamed, struggling to pull free from him. "HE DESERVES TO DIE!" Happy quickly flew above them, snatching the weapon from her fumbling hands, "YOU STUPID CAT! BRING THAT BACK!" She growled at the blue feline dashing off towards the sky dragon slayer's arms. Gray tugged the gun free from Happy before he accidentally fired it.

Lucy fought free of the pink-haired boys grip. Her shoulder crashed against the dragon slayer's chest, sending him staggering backwards, as Lucy darted forward toward the man. A hand reached down, swiping the other pistol laid hidden under the leaves.

"NO! LU-" Natsu yelled.

His voice came to an abrupt stop as Erza stepped in. A fist swung hard into the stellar mage's stomach, mid-sprint. The celestial girl froze, her body coiled around the re-equip mage's fist. The metal pistol slipped from the girl's grasp, dropping onto the dry leaf bed.

As Lucy's body slipped to the floor, Natsu swung his arm around her waist. The stellar mage's limp body fell into his arms. "Luce..." Natsu whimpered, pulling her into his arms. Dark, frightened eyes turned a frustrated glare at the red-haired mage, walking away. "Why did you do that?" he exclaimed.

A cold, sharp and angered gaze replied to him, instantly shutting the dragon slayer boy up. Natsu only saw the same gaze on rare occasions. It always meant something bad. A horrible feeling churned in the dragon slayer's stomach as he looked upon the sleeping Lucy's face.

"Let's go. We're heading back to the guild." the scarlet-haired mage's stern voice commanded. Everyone silently nodded. Cold, heavy air surrounded the atmosphere.

The whole trip home, Natsu protectively cradled the blonde girl on his lap. Dark, onyx eyes wandered endlessly over her pale, unconscious face. Silence followed the team all the way on their long journey home.

A cool breeze brushed softly through her golden hair. The fresh, warm smell of freshly bakes bread filled her nose. rustling curtains and quiet street life noise drifted through her ears. Big brown orbs fluttered open. The pale mid-morning light leaked through the open window. wooden slats covered the ceiling above her. Light oak panels sat on the floor. Several white basic beds equally spread over the guild. The guild infirmary.

A dull stinging ached in her palm. Lifting it up to her face, she saw soft cotton bandages wrapping it up tightly. Lucy gave it a soft, quizzical look, and started to unravel the strips of cloth. Cuts deeply dug into her bruised skin. Releasing a tired sigh, Lucy wrapped her hand. It must have been from the gun. She held it so tightly she wasn't surprised it dug deep enough into her skin to draw blood. Since the anger was gone, her body felt too tired to do anything.

"So it's true." Lucy admitted. "I am an empath."

A sharp pain shot through her head, causing Lucy to hiss in agony. Voices, so many voices whimpered, screamed, and yelled in her mind. Emotions joy, pain, and sadness grasped her heart, squeezing it so tight. Lucy's teeth clamped down, clutching her chest with the suffocating feeling crushing her ribs.

"Levy, do you have anything?" Erza asked, surfing through several books. Levy came to an abrupt stop. Saddened eyes glanced at the dragon slayer sat absent-mindedly on the bottom of the stair leading to the infirmary with a dangerous and vulnerable expression on his face.

"Yeah." Levy murmured, catching the dragon slayer's attention. Deep sorrowful and confused eyes darted onto the girl. Levy felt like she was just about to tell him his pet dog had died. Levy sighed, summoning the courage to say the inevitable. "Lucy, it seems, may be an empath."

"An empath?" Erza questioned.

"You mean those people who can feel how other people feel?" Gray added.

"An empath has the ability to connect to other's emotions around them." Levy explained in simple terms.

"So Lucy can feel our emotions?" Gray asked.

"So she must have felt 's anger." Wendy deduced sadly.

"But why did she go murderous against that man?" Carla added.

"An empath is a term used with those who use the power of emotions. It's a very rare and unstable magic." Levy informed.

"What do you mean by 'unstable'?" Gray asked, sitting down on the edges of a table a little closer to hear.

"As in, if she can't control it, it can overtake her." Levy elaborated.

"So she was overtaken at the woods." Wendy whimpered.

"She's been fighting the magic, so it hasn't got a grasp on her yet." Levy said, piling up her books slowly.

"And if it does?" Natsu mumbled, rising from his seat. Levy hesitantly opened her moth to explain. However, what came out wasn't depressing words. A shrill scream echoed through the hall. Everyone gasp, spinning in the direction it came from. They all looked up to the infirmary door. It was Lucy.

"LUCY!" Natsu yelled, darting up the stairs. The door flew open, tearing it straight off his hinges as it bounced off the wall. Black onyx eyes canned the room inhumanly fast. "Luce!" Natsu cried, spotting the blonde girl couched on the floor.

Pale legs hugged tightly to her chest. Blonde hair spilled over her head buried in her forearms. Arms wrapped tightly around her knees.

Natsu slowly approached, crouching besides the stellar mage. The body in front of him quivered in fright. Dark eyes noticed her clamped fists squeezing her biceps. Natsu gentle laid his hands over her wrists. A shiver shot through his skin. She was ice-cold. A horrible tingle cut across his skin, setting heavily on his chest. Natsu ignored it, slipping his hands around her tense wrists. Slowly, he began to pull them apart from her arm. Lucy tried her best to resist, but the dragon slayer managed to get them off. A small whimper quietly escaped her parted lips. All her muscles coiled tighter, making her fists curl back in on themselves. They clenched tighter and tighter until her nails dug into her skin, drawing blood through the cotton bandages. Natsu quickly peeled open her palm, pushing his palm into hers. Soft fingers clenched surprisingly hard around his hand.

Natsu knew she could squeeze harder, and sensed that she was holding back, if only a little. At least, holding her hand like he did managed to keep her nails from cutting any deeper into her skin. Similar claw shaped cuts marked her upper arms from where her hands were before. Lucy had her eyes scrunched up tightly, her chin buried in her chest. "Lucy," Natsu whispered quietly. Natsu's face leaned closer, trying to look upon the hidden face behind the veil of gold hair. It seemed strange. Lucy's hair didn't look the vibrant, silky gold it usually did. Instead, it looked more like a dull brass color. "Luce?" Natsu called again.

Slowly, her head lifted just enough for the dragon slayer to see her face. A gasp escaped his lips. Lucy's face had turned an ice white, her lips a very pale pink. However, that wasn't what shock Natsu. Big black orbs was empty of every emotion, yet houses full of the very same thing.

A horrible pang shot through his body. It felt like a freshly sharpened dagger slicing up his heart. When he looked into her eyes, Lucy wasn't there.

several figures loomed behind him as the frail Lucy dropped weakly into his eyes. Soft sobbing escaped her lips, smothered by the dragon slayer's shoulder. All her body felt stiff and tense, shaking constantly with skin as cold as snow. Strain tightened over her face, buried in Natsu's silk vest. Slowly, Natsu slipped an arm under her knees and lifted her into his strong arms. Lucy hissed in pain, curling into a ball in his arms, clutching his shirt. Cold sweat trickled over her face, running down her skin.

Gently, he set her back onto the bed, pulling the white cotton sheets up to her chin. After prying her hands from his vest, they latched onto the mattress of the bed. Instantly, her nails tore into the bed sheets like keen talons. Small blotches of partly dry blood stuck to the edges of the claws marks.

Natsu mechanically spun in a smooth turn to finally look at the group behind him. Lucy let out a shrill whine causing everyone, but the dragon slayer to flinch. Cold despairing eyes, contrary to his swift, moving body fell into the blue-haired mage. Tears fell from frozen eyes down th cheeks of her shocked face. Levy only glanced at Natsu for a second and she knew she should continue what she was saying previously.

Levy, surrounded by her friends, had to say the inevitable. "If it so happens that Lucy loses control, by accepting the magic and allowing it to access her magical energy, it will fester in her mind. She'll absorb all the cities emotions until her mind goes crazy and heart gives up." Levy struggled, choking back her tears. "She'll die."

In the guild, Fairy Tail drowned in silence. A heavy atmosphere weighed down on everyone's hearts. Voices went opaque, smiles dissipated, gloom spread.

Natsu sat at the both where he would usually find his favorite blonde. She'd find her complaining, reading or gossiping about something. The dragon slayer remembered when he caught the celestial mage lounging in the corner booth during their last summer.

Long pale legs spread over the two seated booth, slightly darker from the summer sun. She had her big brown eyes closed, breathing deep breaths softly. A cool summer breeze from the afternoon brushed through her sparkling golden hair. She looked so content and realized. During that time of day and the fact the weather had calmed, the guild was quiet.

Earlier in the day, while the sun was high, they had retreated to the guild. Cold, ice drinks were handed to the half-naked group. Some were even unlucky enough to get sun-pink skin, sore at touch. Both Natsu and Gray were a pinkish-brown. unfortunately, the two had been caught n the sun, as many of the unlucky guild members had. Natsu and Gray ended up smacking each other as hard as possible on their back. Squeals and shrieks of pain caused the witness' to 'oo' and 'ah'. In the end, both of them became so sore it was impossible to tell the winner. Random handprints had decorated their rose-red backs.

After that, the midday heat had died into a soft warmth, and guild members dared to venture out again.

The guild's tranquil silence wasn't as disturbing or suspicious as it should have been, instead it was calming. Lucy looked almost asleep. Natsu wasn't sure what to do. At first, he had come over to talk to the celestial mage, maybe even convince her to go on a mission. But with an open book on her lap with a plain pink bookmark sat snugly between the pages, he couldn't bring himself to disturb her. As his eyes watched her quiet face, his mind blanked. Whatever he wa going to say to the stellar mage seemed pointless and didn't 's peacefullness had caught Natsu in its inviting grasp.

A gentle sigh made the dragon slayer jump. Slowly, almost reluctantly, her big brown eyes opened. "What is it Natsu?" She asked gently. Normally, if Lucy used the same words, other than right now, they probably would have sounded harsh. Being in the calming atmosphere made them sound soft and vaguely curious. Natsu opened his mouth to speak, but his mind blanked again. Instead, he settled for stating the obvious.

"You look peaceful." He said, slipping into the booth on the opposite side of the table, mimicking her lounging position.

"I suppose." Lucy lazily agreed. "It's just the smell."

"Is it that bad?" Natsu joked weakly.

Lucy gave a small chuckle. "No, it's nice -the smell of a cool summer breeze." Lucy gave a nostalgic smile. "It reminds me of the summers at home."

"Do you miss it?" Natsu asked. A small pang of worry felt like a heavy pebble sitting in his stomach.

"No." She replied. Natsu had been preparing himself for a vague yes. He wasn't expecting such a quick reply and definite answer. It surprised him. Lucy gave a quick glance over to the dragon slayer, catching his surprise. Her lips curved slightly into a gentle smile. "I truly loved the summers at hom and I will never forget them. There is no reason to miss them. They are not gone, nor will they ever leave me. Because they are apart of my precious memory." Lucy made it sound so simple that Natsu couldn't do anything but accept it.

Natsu's mind drifted back into reality where a quiet guild listened to the sobs echoing from upstairs. The ones that couldn't bare to listen left, others who couldn't leave her behind, like him, stayed, which was the majority of the guild. Everyone wanted to help Lucy but no-one knew what to do. Master had left to visit some of his close friends, to see if they could find anything.

Natsu heaved an exasperated sigh as he pulled himself out of the booth. Since it was quiet enough to hear a pin drop, all the Fairy Tail eyes jumped onto him. "Levy," Natsu calmly called her out, strolling casually towards the bar. Levy sat next to Gajeel in the booth closest to him. "How does someone end up with empathy magic? I know Lucy didn't have it before." Natsu asked. Furred eyebrows, expressions of confusions and gasps of realisation travelled through the guild. Obviously, no one had thought to ask.

"That's true. Don't you have to learn magic?" Gray added, speaking the minds of most the people in the guild.

"Actually..." Levy muttered, beginning to rake through the piles of books that surrounded her.

After scavenging around for a while longer, Levy eventually found a dirt-coloured book covered in dust. It looked a bit bigger and older than the rest of her books. Levy flung open the cover and streamed through the book until she found what she was looking for.

After scanning each and every word, her face's strained expression became worst. "Apparently..." Levy began, alerting anxious guildmates. "A person holding a unconsious ability to sense feelings is liable to be a vessel for a power exchange."

"Elaborate." Erza demanded straight away.

"And simply." Added Gajeel, looking a little confused.

"Everyone has the unconscious ability to sense emotions. It's called being empathetic. But it's an incredibly weak power and barely noticeable. Non-wizards have it too." Levy broke it down.

"What does that have to do about Lucy?" Cana probed.

"Well, Lucy's special in this case. The power for empathy within her body is more sensitive to other people's feelings and understands them better. It's rare to have such a potential." Levy explanation continued.

"Okay, so we can all sense emotions on a dilute level. And Lucy just happens to be stronger at it?" Gray summarized.

"Yeah," Levy agreed.

"What's the power exchanged?" Gajeel asked, peering into the open book,. Levy opened her mouth to speak, but instead a softer masculine voice cut in.

"It's the ritual where the empathy magic transfers rom one vessel to another." Everyone turned to hand an almost opaque lion spirit in the doorway. Another scream echoed through the guild.

Suddenly, Loki collapsed to his knees, bringing everyone rushing over. Gray swung his friend's arm over his shoulder, helping him to stand up. "Loki, are you alright?" Gray asked.

"Don't underestimate Lucy, she's strong. Even though, I'm using my own magic to get here, Lucy is managing to force my gate to close."

"How?" Gray exclaimed in surprise.

"Like I said, she's strong. Lucy has control over my gate and the rest of her spirits', it what allows us to pass through freely. Whatever the heck is happening to her, it's messing with her magic." Loki grunted, fading into a ghostly translucency.

"Loki!" Gray exclaimed.

"Don't worry; I'll be fine. All you need to do is find the man from that night." With that, Loki faded completely into the air.

"Dammit!" Natsu snapped.

"So that's why Lucy didn't summon her spirits at that gun fight." Gray revealed.

"It wasn't that she wouldn't summon her spirits, it's more like she couldn't." Erza corrected.

"Poor, Lu-chan. She must have felt so helpless then." Levy whimpered sympathetically, a soft tear falling from her eye.

Natsu's fist collided with a guild column, causing everyone to flinch.

"Natsu?" Wendy whimpered.

"Why didn't she just tell us?" Natsu bellowed. As his black, frustrated eyes whirled on the guild, small shocked expression returned to him. They all watched the soft, clear tears rolling down his cheeks.

Natsu huffed, turning to examine his fist in the cracked column. It fell limp from the wall, dropping to his side. "I just wish she had told us sooner." He muttered, his body leaning on his forehead pressed against the wall.

"Natsu, for Lucy to admit she was an empath, she would have sealed her fate sooner. Like I said earlier, to admit to being an empath is like signing her death wish." Levy reminded the dragon slayer. "Yeah, I know." He grumbled, flipping onto his back.

A sharp cough startled the guildmates. Their eyes darted towards the doorway where a small elderly man stood. Next to him was the strongest member of Fairy Tail.

"Guildarts." Natsu croaked in surprise.

"Hey, Natsu." Guildarts walking in, setting a hand on the dragon slayer's shoulder. The sad look of all the guildmates, had passed into the elder mage's eyes. Except, Guildarts didn't look at Natsu at the expense of his feelings. Natsu appreciated it greatly. Removing his hand, he moved towards the stairs. "May I?" He asked, looking towards the dragon slayer's unfocused figure out of the corner of his eye. Natsu nodded and Guildarts followed his gaze up the infirmary stairs, then slipped behind the door.

Natsu's confused gaze, turned back to the elderly man, now sat at the bar in front of his children. "Why is he...?" Natsu's voice dropped off, gesturing towards the stairs with his chin.

"Guildarts heard when I was inquiring about empathy magic and returned with me." Master Makarov answered.

"But if Guildarts returned, then..." Levy's voice peaked to a faint panic.

"Empathy magic is a mysterious thing. It is also very dangerous." Makarov said plainly.

"Dangerous for who?" Freed asked, slowly and cautiously.

"Lucy and everyone around her." Makarov replied.

"I understand." Natsu spoke assertive. "So all we have to do is find this person that hurt Luce, right?" A cold determined stare sent shivers down everyone's spine as his head rose. No-one had ever seen Natsu so serious before.

"But how do we find him?" Levy wondered.

"Through Lucy." Makarov answered.

"What do you mean-" Natsu's mouth snapped close in worry, his eyes shot to the door on top of the stairs, then back to Makarov. "Lucy!" Natsu gasped, breaking off into a sprint up the stairs.

The dragon slayer swept swiftly in through the door. Guildarts turned to face the dragon slayer with a sympathetic expression on his face. "Guildarts, what's going on?" Natsu almost whined over the rampaging sound of footsteps stampeding up the stairs behind him.

"Natsu?" A soft voice caught his sharp ears. It was so soft and hoarse that any normal person would have missed it.

"Luce!" Natsu shouted in joy as he leapt past the elder mage. Soft black eyes looked up innocently at the dragon slayer. She was sat up looking perfectly fine. A small smile even showed her emotions. Natsu swung his arms around her neck, tackling her back down onto the bead. "Lucy!" He wailed, overjoyed.

"Natsu~" Lucy moaned. Remembering Lucy wasn't well as of ten minutes ago, Natsu pulled back with a big grin,

Lucy sat back up, giving the boy a relieved smile. "Natsu, you're as energetic as usual." Lucy laughed weakly.

"Sorry, Luce." Natsu felt a heated rush of embarrassment warm his red cheeks, giving a weak, innocent laugh, ruffling the pink hair on the back of his neck. After a small pause, Lucy replied with a gentle nod.

"Don't worry; I'm fine." She said.

"Really?" Natsu bounced, an even bigger, but softer smile pulling at his lips.

"Yup." Lucy gave him a thumbs up, matching his big smile.

"That's good. I'm-" Natsu began.

"Lu-chan!" Levy exploded, popping up behind her head. Lucy looked unfazed. Her eyes locked onto Natsu smiling. It hadn't effected her at all. It was impossible that she hadn't heard it. Her voice had rang through everyone's ears, causing them to wince.

Lucy jumped in surprise when Levy popped up at the side of her. A small laugh of relieved shock slipped her lips. "Didn't see you there, Levy." Lucy smiled.

"What?" Levy exclaimed. "I called you really loudly." Lucy turned to see raised, curious eyebrows and still faint reactions left as if a cockerel had screeched in her ears.

"I suppose, I'm a little rusty." Lucy sighed heavily. "You'll get better the longer you practise it, for a while anyway." Guildarts reassured her.

"Hopefully." Lucy waited, and then replied.

"What's going on?" Natsu asked as Lucy continued to look at Guildarts until the dragon slayer's face drew her attention pink-haired boy sat on the edge of the bed with an expectant and confused expression.

"Natsu," Guildarts spoke. Natsu looked between Lucy and the elder mage, seeing something pass between them. "Lucy can't hear you."

"What?"

So Levy reveals to Natsu and the rest of Fairy Tail that Lucy's approaching the end, unless they do something about it. And now Gajeel mysterious tells Natsu that Lucy can't hear. What's going on? Can they help Lucy? Will they make it in time? Find out in the next chapter! ;)
