Chapter 11
Candy Hearts Mash-Up's
I know, I know, I said I was going to update NBNY (you know who you are when I type this) but I figured I would wait a tad bit longer before I post my newest chapter. I will also be updating my future fic shortly (aside a few ships, I'm lacking ideas). I do have a Tumblr for this story as well (the link is on my profile) if anyone wants to check it out.
Also, if anyone here hasn't seen Catching Fire I highly recommend it, and I am thinking on doing a Hunger Games chapter, where the members of New Directions dress up as tributes, or something of that effect.
Anyways onto the story (which again may be short).
[McKinley Radio]
[Mr. Schue]
"Kasen, may I talk to you a minute?" I ask Kasen at the end of class, and the rest of the students have left, or scurrying along so they could get to their lockers, so they could talk to their friends.
"Am I failing Sir? If I am, I can seek a tutor," he wonders curiously, as his eyes meet my brown eyes.
"Nope, you're one of the brightest students in this class," I tell him with a smile on my face, as I sit on one of the empty desks, as I am aware that no students would be entering, because, this was my free period.
"First, you don't have to call me Sir, you can call me Mr. S, or Mr. Schue," I tell him, as I recalled memories from when I was at McKinley, in which, I do say I would have to drop in sometime, and see how they are doing.
"Alright, Mr. Schue, it is," he agrees, and then has a confused smile on his face.
"Okay, so I know that you're wondering what I called you for," I begin, as I remembered that in Candy Hearts we were going to be Katy Perry's Roar so we could it at Sectionals, if we would be that lucky to even be considered.
"You familiar with the song Roar by Katy Perry?" I ask him, as though this were a normal conversation for school.
"I believe everybody is, Mr. Schue," he answers me, with a confused look on his face, and I wouldn't have blamed him. Needless to say, I was shocked at the thought in my head.
"Well then, come to the music room today after school," I instruct him, as I look at the clock, and see that he's already late for his next class.
"Wait what?" he asks, as he hints that he's impatient to get to his next class.
"I want you to crash it. I already know that you can sing, and it would be a chance to see if you like being in the show choir," I tell him, as I write down his pass.
"You want me to crash your show choir rehearsals. I can't crash, I was invited," he tells me, as though he had been thinking this all along.
"They don't know that, you're there auditioning," I tell him, as I hand his class pass, and he smiles, and walk out the door, as he heads to his last class of the day.

[Tanner]
"Have you asked him to Homecoming yet?" my friend, Carter Milstein asks, as we walk out of chemistry class together, and as usual, he's spiking his short blond hair back into place.
"Whoa. Lets' slow that down a bit. Homecoming is like two weeks away," I tell him, as I stop at my locker, and dial the combination, so I could toss my chemistry book into my locker, and trade it for my math book.
"Yeah, and that's why you need to ask him, besides, everyone knows that you've had the hots for him since forever," he tells me, as a class member of his walks by and says and waves hi.
I look my best guy friend in his blue eyes for a moment, and then grab my math book, and place it in my backpack.
"If you don't ask him, I will," Carter tells me, as I shut my locker, and then head towards Spanish class, and wonder to myself, if I should ask Xander, or if we would be better off just friends.

[Zoe]
"Zoe!" I hear someone call out. Of course, I was thinking it was Whitney. I should have known better because, well, one, I'm not a football girl, or whatever they're called. Two. I never stood a chance with him in the first place.
"Slow down, I was thinking I would never catch up with you," the voice tells me, as he finally catches up with me.
"Oh sorry, I was in a hurry to get to class," I tell Casen, as I look up into his eyes, all thoughts of Whitney Johnson gone. I smile. Out of all the girls in this school, he decides to catch up with me instead. I wondered why in my head.
"I saw that you liked the Walking Dead," he began, and I wondered how he knew about that since I hadn't worn any attire lately.
"It's my favorite TV show, well it's a tie between that and Smash," I tell him honestly, and smile.
"Well then, what do you say to watching Season one of TWD tonight, so I can finally have a reason to watch it?" he asks me, as he shows me the Blu-Ray of season one, and then the first warning bell to class goes off, and students who, like us, were in a hurry to get to class flooded the hallways, breaking the moment. I stood there wanting to say yes, but I just remained speechless.
"I've got to get to class," I tell him, and walk away still wondering how he knew what my favorite TV show was. In forty five minutes, I would be headed to glee club, with his question unanswered.

[Aislinn]
"If it isn't Whitney's Barbie Doll!" I hear Cassandra Patterson protest, as I enter the locker room for gym class.
"I'm not anyone's Barbie Doll. I'm a girl who likes to play football. I don't see why people around here can't accept that," I tell Cassandra, as I change into my Adidas gym shorts. She didn't look happy about it, and went on to finish getting ready for gym.
"By the way, Whitney is gay, I can't be the only girl who has figured that one out," I tell Cassandra, and head out to the gymnasium floor. My only thought was that it wasn't true. I just wanted her to shut up, but knowing my luck the entire school would know about it by tomorrow, and I would be FHS Most Wanted for starting the story.
As I enter the gymnasium, it was set up for gymnastics, and I wondered how many boys in the class would like that. Probably none. I wasn't that big on the idea either, but whatever. I had to go with it for a grade.
When class ended, I went back to the locker room, and got dressed back into none gym clothes, and suddenly I felt pushed against a locker.
"For your information, Bitch, Whitney isn't gay," Cassandra told me coldly, and made sure that no one else was around to witness this, but I was able to force her off from me.
"Well, I guess, you're able to sleep with him tonight then," I tell her, as I grab my backpack, and head for the music room, knowing that I had crossed the line with Cassandra. I knew I would have to watch every move I made with the head cheerleader.
Headed to my locker, I nearly run Kaden over, mainly because I didn't see him when he came out of nowhere.
"Easy there Ace," I hear him protest, as our eyes meet.
"I can't be easy if I can't see you," I answer him back, and roll my eyes.
"I have band practice to get to, so I'll see you around," he tells me, as he tried to make it seem less awkward.
"Right, band practice, so yeah, I'll see around," I tell him, and I watch as he walks away high fiving his band mates, and then I head to my locker to put away my stuff, and head towards the music room to get today's rehearsal for Sectionals done since we didn't have practice today for football.
"Hi Ace," greets Zoe happily, as I see that she's already there and ready to get some work done.
"Hi Zoe," I greet back, and take a spot beside her, then the rest of the group comes in, which is only Tanner, which is rather sad.
[McKinley Radio]
[Mr. Schue]
"Alright ladies, I see that we haven't recruited anyone, so if we want to make it to Sectionals, we have to work on that," I tell the three girls. I didn't bother telling them about Casen joining. They didn't need to know. Yet.
"How are we supposed to do that?" Tanner asks rather curiously.
"Good question Tanner," I tell her, as I look her way, and take the cap off of the pen that you write in the whiteboard with. "I was thinking we join McKinley High at their half time show on Halloween," I tell them, and write on the whiteboard.
"We have a game that night," Zoe speaks up, as she puts her Walking Dead hoodie on over her head.
"So, that would be the perfect time. Students from both schools will be there, and it would be a perfect way to show everyone what we have," I mention, as I remembered back to the Thriller / Heads Will Roll mashup a few years ago.
"We need something that would want people to join, being as Sectionals is two weeks before Christmas, and if we don't get enough students joining, we won't be eligible, nor would be able to get the school to help us out, since we'll be out of State. Come on, lets get singing Katy," I tell the small group, as I was hoping that Casen would be listening outside the door.
"I really despise Katy Perry, I'll sing the chorus," Zoe speaks up, as she grabs her music sheet, so she could get the song memorized.
"How can you not like Katy Perry?" Ace asks, as though this had offended her, more than it did make her curious.
"Not everyone has to like Katy Perry," Zoe tells Ace, and then gets ready to show us what she has to offer.
"Mr. Schue, I'll start," Tanner tells us, and begins to sing.
I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything
[ACE] You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready 'cause I've had enough
I see it all, I see it now
Then Zoe had taken her vocal as I stood there wondering if Casen was going to show up. I had hoped that he would, because that would give us one more member, and at least one boy.
[McKinley Radio]
[Casen]
I got the eye of the tiger,
I had Zoe singing Katy Perry's chorus to Roar, and I knew this was where I had to keep my end of Mr. Schue's plan. It was no or never.
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger
I sang as I crashed the song that they were working on, and you had to see them look at me, as they noticed it was me who had crashed it.
"Kasen James! What are, or well were you thinking?" Tanner asks me, as she looked and sounded like she was about to bite my head off. (Note to self – don't get on her bad side).
"Ummm well, I was auditioning," I tell them, as I remembered Mr. Schue had said that they didn't need to know.
"So, should I continue, or should I wait for you to finish, because it looks like you could use a boy or two?" I ask sardonically, as I smile at Zoe.
"Well yeah, we do need another boy, or two, because we want to go to Sectionals," Zoe speaks up, and then rolls her eyes.
"What do you say Mr. Schue?" I ask, as I look at the Spanish teacher, who was also our director.
"I say, lets continue this mash-up, and take Sectionals by storm," he tells us, and looks at the girls to continue their Katy, and I, my Survivor.
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
[All] Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
[Zoe] You're gonna hear me roar
Face to face, out in the heat
Hanging tough, staying hungry
They stack the odds 'til we take to the street
For the kill with the skill to survive
[Tanner] Now I'm floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero
Rising up, straight to the top
Had the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not going to stop
Just a man and his will to survive
[Ace] You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready 'cause I've had enough
I see it all, I see it now
[Zoe] I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar
It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger
"Guys, that was great, and that's exactly what we need for Sectionals. Now the assignment is to recruit some more members to Candy Hearts," Mr. Schue instructs all five of us.
"I thought we were waiting for the halftime show?" Zoe asks sounding confused, as she tucks her hands into her hoodie pocket, and then looks at me, and then quickly looks away.
"We're doing both," Mr. Schue tells us, and writes that down on the whiteboard. "So everyone back here tomorrow at two forty," he tells us, and then dismisses us, so we could go and get some homework done.
"Casen wait up," I hear Zoe call as I leave the music room, and almost out of hearing distance. When she catches up to me, I seemed confused. Had I done something wrong during rehearsals?
"Did, I do something wrong? Because if I did, I'm sorry," I tell her, as I look into her brown eyes.
"Yeah, you talk to much, and if I have to listen to you talk all the time," she begins, and then stops, and kisses me. Her lips on mine. Then we break apart.
"Sorry," she speaks up.
"Don't be," I tell her, as I kiss her back just a tiny bit longer than her kiss to me.
"So about the Walking Dead?" I ask, as though I don' know the answer to the question, as I take her hand.
"I think you already know the answer to that," she tells me, as we walk holding hands, headed towards her house.
This chapter was shorter than I had intended, but it was all I could manage to get out of my head. I personally think the Zoen kiss was a little rushed. Anyways, I have it done and over with. Next chapter will be longer, because, I believe it will be the Stand Up to Cancer x Halloween chapter, so it will contain both schools, as well as some Comaia. Again, if anyone would like to check out my Tumblr, and leave questions you can. It's the link that has New Beginnings New Directions beside it.
