The official opening of the Dotson Island Railway had finally arrived. The engines were excited. They all had been given new coats of paint and felt splendid. They were all excited. John was pulling boxcars, full of decorations for the ceremony. Halee and Donavan pulled passengers to Weston. Mr. Jarrell had been on vacation with his wife and children, they had travelled to America. Now he had sailed back to the island for the grand opening. At Barkers Bay, Ghost was waiting there to take him to Weston. "Welcome back sir!" Said Ghost as Mr. Jarrell stepped off the ship. "Ready for the grand reopening sir?" Asked Ghost. "Yes, I have prepared a speech, and I'm having all of my engines and family by my side." "Wonderful sir, shall we be going?" "Yes, we shall." Mr. Jarrell and his family loaded their luggage into Ghost and they drove off.
They headed down the road towards Della. It was still the winter season and a thick snow had fallen, and the roads were covered in ice. Ghost was happily cruising on his way, marveling the white snow. He was so captivated by it that he didn't notice a patch of ice in front of him. He hit the ice and slid off the road into a snowy ditch. "Dent my bumper!" He cried.
He tried to back out, but the ground was wet, and his tires just spun. "Ghost! What's wrong?" Said Mr. Jarrell. "My tries can't grip the dirt sir." "I'm coming to push." Said Mr. Jarrell. Mr. Jarrell climbed out of Ghost, and walked through the mud. He put his hands onto hood and began to push. After a few minutes Ghost's wheels began to spin out of the mud. And before long he was back on the road. Mr. Jarrell was covered in mud.
They pulled back out onto the road and sped away. "Must hurry! Must hurry!" Ghost told himself. Even though he was hurrying, he was still watching the road for ice instead of looking at the snow. They soon drove into Weston city limits. "Almost there! Almost there!" Ghost told himself. They soon pulled into Weston Station. Mr. Jarrell and his family got out of Ghost. They ran up on the station and Mr. Jarrell began preparing to give his speech. The station was beautifully decorated with streamers, ribbons, and a banner that read- "grand reopening". Even the engines were decorated, each with a ribbon on his funnel, and streamers going across his boiler. People gathered around them and waited for the speech. Finally Mr. Jarrell gathered everyone's attention and began. "Finally after months of preparing, the day is finally here. Today is the day that we officially become a railway. Many years ago my father was up here giving a similar speech. Hopefully I will be able to do just as good as he did. But I wouldn't be up here today if it wasn't for my family, my engines, and my car, Ghost. He is the reason I'm a bit muddy. Now, I give to you, the Dotson railroad!" Everyone cheered as Mrs. Jarrell cut a ribbon over the tracks. The engines tooted loudly, and Ghost honked his horn.
