Pokémon Center

Dragon paced back and forth in front of the maternity ward of the Pokémon center. Whilst he loved all his brothers and sisters, Mind and Flame held a special place for him, having been the first to join him as Guardians. Not only that, he had personally trained the two of them into the powerhouses they were today. Granted, Mind was a natural powerhouse thanks to the Berserker, but Flame was a weak little coordinator long before she was the powerful 3rd-in-command Guardian. He chuckled as he remembered when he started training with her…

Flashback!

BAM!

Dawn cried out in pain as she was slammed into the floor by her 'tutor' , who simply regarded her with stone cold eyes. Her mother's betrayal made her decide to train herself into strength so she'd no longer have to rely on her Pokémon. However, doing such a thing was easier said than done. Her lithe frame was not meant for heavy combat, that much her 'tutor' knew, so he decided to train her on stealth… which meant that every time he caught her he'd slam her into the ground. She stood shakily, determination flaming in her eyes.

"Again…" She scurried back into the woods. Her goal was to get behind Dragon and tap his shoulder before he could notice her. It was a low-level exercise, so he refrained from using his Aura sensing. Of course, he was still a battle hardened warrior. He was able to detect her by the noise she made. It took her 3 days to complete the task with flying colors…

FLASHBACK END

A small part of him regretted teaching her stealth. She had gained a level of skill that very few would be able to match, and even less would be able to detect. Which meant she would often sneak up on him or Mind. Dragon's pacing was interrupted by Mind, who was seating lazily nearby.

"Oh, come on, Dragon, chill! Nurse Joy will make sure she's ok." The guardian of the mind said calmly. "She's only pregnant, not infected with a parasite."

"Some people might say it's the same thing…" Steel muttered. (A/N My Biology prof. is of this mentality -_-"). The others sweatdropped at him.

"Riight…" Dragon muttered. "Anyway, I'm still worried. Partly about her… and about us." The others looked at him, confused.

"Us? Why us?" Thunder asked her brother. He turned to them, his expression filled with fear and worry.

"Do you not remember when YOU were pregnant, Thunder?" The mighty leader of the Guardians shuddered and hugged himself. "The mood swings... the cravings…" Mind's expression matched his leader's.

"Running around like chickens without a head trying to find the stuff she'll ask for…" Mind seriously started to consider running for the hills. Steel was the next to speak, nursing his ribs.

"Enduring the WSW Combo…" Thunder turned to him.

"WSW?" She asked, utterly confused by the acronym. Dragon held up three fingers.

"Wrath, Sorrow, Wrath. You and Lucario went through it incredibly often. You'd be pissed off beyond human limits, beat the crap out of everyone around you, then start crying and apologizing…" Steel followed up.

"And then, when someone tried to comfort you, you'd rage out again and beat us up again… Do you know what it's like when a Lucario does that to you?" The Guardian of Steel winced at the memory. "I'm pretty sure she broke a rib or two once. I think that Nurse Joy was about to give us a Frequent Buyer card for the Pokémon Center…" When he said that, Dragon pulled out a small card from his pocket. It was a plain card with the Pokémon Center logo on one side and a magnetic band on the other one. "Huh? What's that?"

"A Pokémon Center Frequent Patient card. You get a point for every consult, two points for every broken limb, and three points per visit to the ER. If you get to a hundred points, you get a free heal ball…" The others looked worried.

"Uh… how many Heal Balls have we gotten?" Poison asked. Dragon coughed awkwardly.

"… we have 15…" Everyone except Dragon face faulted. On the other side of the Pokémon center, the Trainer group was sitting around a table, except for Max, who had gone to look at a small book shelf. Dawn looked like she was in shock.

"Well, talk about an oddly flavored twist…" Cilan muttered. "I didn't even know it was possible for Poke-human relations to produce a child…"

"It SHOULDN'T be possible." May answered. "I mean, Humans and Pokémon are completely different species, aren't they?" Just as she said that, Max walked in, carrying a big old book.

"Hey guys! Take a look at this…" He opened the book at a seemingly random page and pointed at a paragraph.

"'In ancient times, Humans and Pokémon lived together in harmony. Even if they were different in body, they were equals in mind. Humansprovided food and shelter, and the Pokémon helped them cook and in other chores. According to old scripts and great drawings, they worked united and diligently, raising a powerful empire. Destruction could happen, yet they would fix anything. Some humans would even marry Pokémon, and it was a trivial thing that happened often. Usually, these marriages were long and fruitful, even with the language barrier. Studies show that ancient civilizations may have found a way to understand and communicate directly with the Pokémon. Also, according to old texts, these unions would produce hybrid offspring. Some scientists believe that Pokémon with a humanoid shape, such as Gardevoir and Jynx, are the result of these unions.'"

The trainers stared at the book. This explained a lot to them, but raised even more questions. Riley looked pensive.

"Do you think the Guardians found out the method to talk to Pokémon?" The aura master (Who felt like a novice compared to the Guardians) wondered.

"It'd make sense. They seemed perfectly able to understand that Absol's words as it and the Other May explained how they came here…" Max sighed sadly. "A shame we ended up with only half the tale, since we couldn't understand the Absol…" When he said that, he perked up, and turned to look at Ash. "Hey, Ash, you can understand Pikachu, can't you?" The mentioned trainer looked at his closest friend.

"Well… sorta. I get the gist of what he says, but not the exact words." He scratched Pikachu behind the ears, earning delighted 'Chaa~!'. "I understand when he says he likes something, or that he's hungry, or even when he says 'There's trouble', but never the whole thing. I think I'll ask the other me how he did it…"

"You could always ask me…" G-May* said from her spot between T-May and Dawn. All the Trainers jumped away in surprise, not having seen her there. She chuckled at their reaction. "Ah, I love that reaction… Whoa, I'm starting to sound like my brother." She stood up and looked at the trainers. "The process is known as Mental Activation. You need the help of an experienced Psychic type Pokémon to be able to achieve it. The process makes the subject develop a weak psychic ability, meant to translate everything you hear. People may speak in different languages, but you always think what you say as you're saying. In a way, when you're Mentally Activated, what you hear is a person's thoughts rather than their voice. However, it is very weak, so you can't read people's minds or anything like that, just translate what you hear." They all nodded in understanding (except for ash, who got lost at Psychic Type.).

"Soo… what kind of Psychic can do it?" the trainer asked. G-May shrugged in response.

"Any Psychic, really. Pure Psychics or duals with Psychic as their primary work best, but any Pokémon with a Psychic type is able to do it… well, should be able to do it." G-May rubbed her head. "If it fails you'll end up with a headache that will make your worst migraine feel like a tap on the head."

"Speaking from experience?" Iris asked the cyber-armed woman. She chuckled nervously.

"Hehe… yeah, I am. The Noctowl that activated me shows why you shouldn't go for a non-Psychic with psychic abilities. The activation was a success, but it hurt a lot. But, just like my arm, the pain gave way to something rather useful." She grabbed a nearby paper cup and held it in her mechanical palm. Several little hooks came up and started to unfold the cup and, in a matter of seconds, she was holding a small origami crane, which she handed to Etsuko. "Granted, I may have added a few things myself, such as the slot for the Absolinite. Oh, and this…" She flicked her hand at a nearby wall. Before everyone's eyes, the wall was pierced thrice. "A little something based on Sol's Razor Wind. I can fire small bullets of compressed wind at a short range. I'm still trying to figure out how to extend the range, though. I get only around 3 inches before the wind dispels into a mere breeze…" She sighed in annoyance, and Nurse Joy came out, followed by Flame. The nurse was looking as cheerful as ever.

"Well, everything seems to be fine. I must say, for three months you are amazingly thin." Flame chuckled at the Nurse's observation. Of course, they couldn't just say that the babies were hybrids, so they had to play it off strategically if they wanted to keep that little detail a secret.

"Thank you, Nurse Joy. I guess it must be all that exercise I did." The nurse nodded, seemingly not noticing anything weird. However, her cheerful demeanor faltered as she sighed.

"Still, it's a shame the ultrasound machine broke down. I'm sure you would've liked to see the babies. At least the rest of the tests showed everything was alright." The nurse flipped through the pages of her pad. "Well… one thing did turn up not so well. I'd recommend you don't move too much once you start your last trimester. Your womb is… well, you're so thin that it might hurt the children if you move too much." Flame looked worried at that statement, but nodded. Her fists were balled up tightly as she crossed her arms around her belly. She had always been the silent, athletic one of the Guardian Trinity. Where Dragon would outsmart his foes and Mind would overpower them, she would outlast them by dodging attacks with her superior, aura enhanced agility. If she couldn't do that, then she'd be helpless. She didn't have the build for a slow fight… Nurse Joy said something else, but she heard none of it. Once the nurse left, Dragon turned to his brothers and sisters. His entire being irradiated a protectiveness not seen since Ritios was born.

"Alright, this might be obvious but I'll say it anyway: Our top priority is to protect Flame. Returning home is no longer a priority until we know for sure if the three of them can make the journey safely. I don't care if we have to slaughter Team Plasma and the Hunters combined, Flame must be kept save. Understood?" All the Guardians, including Ava, nodded at their leader. Flame looked a bit miffed at being protected like that, but she understood the reasons. The trainers looked at Dragon in awe, impressed how he willingly decided to abandon attempts to return home until they were sure his teammate would be safe. "We should try to find a place to stay put until she gives birth…"

"Oh, HELL NO." Flame snapped. "Ok, I understand being protected, but there is no way in the Distortion World I am staying put in a bed so damn long!''

"It's only going to be a couple of months, ya know." Mind deadpanned. In return, he was met by a fiery glare that would've had King Roland quaking in his boots.

"I don't give a damn about that." Fire seemed to pour off of her as she spoke. "I am fire. There is no way in HELL I can stay put! Dragon's theory proves that!" Dragon grabbed her shoulder.

"It's just a theory, Flame. That doesn't mean it's true." Her glare turned to him now.

"Oh, so you're going to tell me you haven't noticed how our personalities match our elements? How Ice is willing to stay put for long periods of time, or how Wind is always running from one place to another? Or how I can't stand being kept in one place!?" Ice then muttered to Steel.

"Looks like the hormones are starting to act up…" He said fearfully. Steel nodded.

"And woe shall fall on us…" He said profoundly. Every single Guardian agreed at his statement. "At least, we have punching bags for her." Steel grabbed his counterpart when he noticed Flame was getting really pissed off. "HEY! Flame! Chill out!" And then he threw his counterpart at her. The pregnant Guardian then proceeded to punch the lights out of the poor Aura practitioner. Mind stared at Steel wide-eyed.

"Ok, that's the kind of stuff you'd expect from me. The bloodthirsty nutjob. You're the cold one with a sense of justice!" Mind said, surprised. Steel simply shrugged.

"It is justice. I endured beating after beating when my wife was pregnant. He didn't. It's only fair that he does now. Even if the one beating him is not his wife nor will she ever be." For him, the conversation had ended, so he simply turned away and went to get a drink from the vending machines. G-May turned to her brother.

"Did you have it that bad?" Mind shook his head.

"No. Kir didn't have many emotional problems during her pregnancy. Her cravings were the worst, however. Like when she asked for Ice cream with hot sauce, tuna fish, pepperoni, three anchovies, Psychic pokechow, water pokechow, red beans, bread crumbs, and to top it all off, humus." The insane Guardian looked green when he finished. "I have no clue how she came up with that abomination, but I ended up running through all Altomare to get it to her…" He then turned to his sister. "What about you? I can't imagine what it must've been for Absol." The canine Pokémon shuddered, but May was oblivious to it.

"I'm pretty sure I wasn't that bad. I mean, I don't remember ever hitting him or anything…" Absol scoffed at his mate's words, but managed to pass it off as a cough. That's when Choko accidentally knocked down the pile of magazines she had been playing with. Thankfully, they had convinced the nurse they were cosplaying as their mother's absol. G-May excused herself to go fix the mess they made. Mind turned to Absol.

"How bad?" The canine shuddered at the memory.

"She'd fly into fits of blind range, and not remember any of it afterwards. If I had to guess, I'd say it was because of the blood of the Berserker in her. Honestly, I spend at least an hour every day praying to all the Legends that my daughters won't show that power… no offense."

"None taken. I understand you don't want them to have the bloodlust that comes with the power. Then again, it'd keep them alive in tough situations…"

"Not happening, bro. Not. Happening." Absol glared as best he could, which was pretty powerful since he used the move Leer in conjunction with his glare. Mind chuckled nervously.

"Well, can't blame me for trying!" He answered, his eyes glowing with the power of the Berserker. He noticed that his other self was holding a book. "Hey, kid, let me see that…" Max gave the book to Mind, who stared at the title confusedly. "Uh, guys? You might want to see this…" The guardians looked over Mind's shoulder…

"History of Pokémon and Humans

By Gir A. Tina"

And that's it for now. Sorry for the shortness, but as I was writing ideas simply stopped flowing. Now, we see that Flame may have troubles with her pregnancy if she doesn't stay put after her third month (which, in Pokemorph pregnancies, is the same as the third trimester). The Guardians have postponed their going home until they know for sure that Flame can make the journey safely. And they also found an interesting book that might hold a clue to their target. Here's a hint: Some of the letters of the text look odd. Can you figure out the message before the Guardians do? This is BladeOfThePoet, logging out!
