John Kelly took another swig of whisky. The alcohols affect soon gripped hold of him sending a wave of peace coursing through his body.
It was the perfect night to get even, with every bleeding convict caught up in the wedding of that O'Johnson fella no one would notice if his wife suddenly 'went missing'. He could do things quickly in front of her little cabin mates if necessary (all though he doubted any would be home) then get the revenge he had craved for the last two years. He would enjoy seeing her pay, enjoy it with every fibre of his being.
With the help of that Dodger fella he had tracked down his wife's cabin. Stupid kid, dumb enough to think he was her relative.
He took another swig for good luck then headed out the door. Tonight would be a night he would never forget and neither would she.
Brianne had enough of the party now-all right she had enough of the party two hours ago when it had started but it was only acceptable for her to leave now. She was pretty sure that Jack had gotten drunk during the course of the festivities not that she had seen much of him in between his dances with every single female guest at the party.
Perhaps it was better this way, maybe if he hated her then she could go on doing what was right and not be tempted to fall back into another man's arms. But if it was better then why did her heart hurt so much?
The night was eerily quiet not even the kookaburra or dingo sung it's lonesome song leaving the outback completely silent. The full moon reflected onto the spindly trees and colossal red rocks It figured tonight would be the night she would be completely alone with her thoughts. She hurried her step eager to get home. Maybe she could write the board of parole and get herself moved to one of the factories or into domestic work like Sarah. At least that way she wouldn't have to see Jack every day, look into those eyes and see the hurt she had seen tonight.
Finally she was nearing the hill near her cabin sighing to herself she eased her hand onto the doorknob then gave it a gentle twist.
And there sitting on her bed with a cup of tea was Jack Kelly-her husband.
