Hey everybody! It's another chapter Sorry I didn't post last week, I was busy planning how the next 3 chapters would go. Remember to PM or review telling me you favourites xx *WARNING CONTAINS SWEAR WORDS*
Often unnoticed, the maids waited in the corner. They would present themselves only when called upon and shrink back into the shadows. Little did the competitors in the Selection know, the maids actually held some form of distorted authority over them. Because all of them had been trained in the art of being invisible, the Selected acted as if no one was there. The maids were watching when they danced, sang and laughed over bad jokes together. They saw when one was upset, whether it be because of Damon or because of missing home. But most importantly, they saw all the conflict that happened in the palace. Every fight, every glare and every whispered conversation behind someone's back, they heard and they saw everything. This is where their real power comes in, any one of them could do whatever they liked with this information. Sell it, pass it on, tell Damon, tell the King, the Queen, the media, the other Selected girls, you name it. Sometimes however this power can be used for protection, or more specifically to protect the girls.
It was mid-October and the girls were getting jittery, the weather was getting worse and they all found themselves trapped inside more and more. Spread across the women's room were all of the Selected. Most can be found writing letters to their family, the post left the next morning. In one of the far window seats, overlooking the garden, now covered with orange leaves, is Elle Simmons and Allay Verma. Elle waves to a maid and asks her to bring a box of tissues, Allay is almost on the verge of tears.
"What's wrong? You know you can trust me, right?" Elle moves over slightly and puts a comforting hand on Allays shoulder.
"I know it's just, hard to explain" Allay says while wiping away one of her tears.
"Give it a shot" Elle nudges Allays shoulder "I hear I'm a pretty good listener"
"Fine" Allay smiles "It's just, I miss my music"
"But you have all the things you could ever want to make music here!"
"No, not like that, I knew you wouldn't get it. I miss performing, to my family. They loved it- Dad said I was better at piano than any 5 he had ever seen. Which is a big deal because I've had less training than most fives. I love showing them what I can do, because they're the only ones that actually get what I can do. I miss that, their support"
Allay can see a crease between Elles eyebrows she doesn't get it, I just want to perform to them again. Just to see mums eyes light up when I sing or dads soft smile linger for hours after I finish my piece. "Could you go grab me some more paper, I want to write to them" Allay says softly.
"Just get a maid to do it" Elle says, lifting her hand slightly to call one over.
"No" Allay grabs her hand and pulls it back down. "No, I mean could you just go please? I want to be alone for a little while.
Elles eyes relax and she smiles to Allay as she walks away. Somehow she bumps into Saffron on her way over. As always Saffron was squealing and giggling about something. Honestly Elle couldn't remember a time where she had ever seen Saffron sad.
"OhmygoshElleheeeey!" Saffron said in all of about 0.01 seconds
"Saffron hi!" Elle said, in the same excitable tone "How are your letters coming along?"
"So super good, I love writing to everyone back home. So. Much. Fun."
"I KNOW right. It's like I'm sending a little piece of myself back home with the paper!" Elle exclaimed. This gathered a few looks from around the room, because this version of Elle, the version talking to Saffron was very different to the one talking to Allay less than a minute ago. In fact Elle seemed to have two completely separate personalities for the two different people.
"Hey" Annie Carter calls from across the room. "What was that?"
"What was what?" Elle says turning around.
"That bi-polar shit you just pulled off? Don't try tell me either of those was your real personality" Annie rolled her eyes.
"I don't know what you mean"
"You know exactly what I'm talking about you fake bitch"
"I'm really sorry if I offended you or something but reall-"
"Just be your GODDMAN SELF! DAMON IS NOT GOING TO LIKE YOU IF YOU'R 10 DIFFERENT PEOPLE! EVERYONE ELSE IS TRYING SO HARD TO SHOW HIM WHO THEY ARE YOU COME WALKING ON BY WITH THAT SMUG LOOK ON YOUR FACE PRETENDING TO BE SOMEONE YOUR NOT"
"But this is who I-"
"Don't lie to me" Annie raised her hand and pushed Elle directly backwards onto the glass coffee table.
People were screaming. Maids were running.
