A Royal Gone Rebel
Chapter Seven
Her heart pounded. She was positive her pulse, heart rate, everything skyrocketed that could. Who did he think that he was? How did he get into Ever After High? He wasn't the same age as her... nothing made sense and everything was all wonky. Like she'd spent an entire night in Wonderland with all its whimsical nonsense. Even Maddie was silenced in that very moment. Which seemed to drag on for eternity. When would all this madness stop?! "Roland... get up."
"But my love, what could possibly be bothering you about this perfect moment?" He asked her, concern plastered all over his face. His face of skin colored porcelain.
She couldn't look at him, her eyes darted away as he got up from bended knee. "Roland... what gave you the honest idea that you could just barge up in here - totally unannounced and ask for my hand in marriage? What's wrong with you! I'm at school trying to get an education Roland, that's where I am. In front of all my-" without another word spoken, he quickly grabbed her. Bringing her close and planting a kiss right on her lips in front of everyone.
"Ooh my!"
"How romantic!"
"Why don't you kiss me like that?!" A nearby Princess smacked her royal boyfriend beside her, who nursed his arm.
Ashlynn was raving mad, until he whispered in her ear. "How many more should die before you do the right thing, hmm?"
Her aching heart sank. She couldn't let another human in her Kingdom die, they didn't do anything to deserve death. She had no utter choice in the matter. She had to do the right thing here.
"Ashlynn, marry me?"
She sighed, accepting defeat. "Yes." She mumbled.
"I'm sorry?"
She feigned hugging him, "Yes Roland, I'll... I'll... marry you." She choked out, hardly being able to do so without nearly breaking down in tears.
The entire castleteria was silenced, until there was a fork that stabbed a nearby wooden table with such precision. Hunter took a deep shaky breath and stormed out, slamming the doors.
"Noo..." she choked out, but was gripped tighter by Roland, she was as trapped as a Princess could ever be. And she was sure no one could save her now.

Villages had been bustling, though a darkened time in the Kingdom - the planning of a wedding kept most looking forward to something, anything, joyous. A place that was bustling more than the villages - was none other than Ever After High itself. Students upon students gossiped, discussed and chatted with one another about what just happened at lunch that day.
Dexter Charming was on a daily walk through the woods when an arrow barely missed him. "Oh! Sorry man, didn't see you there." Hunter Huntsman spoke, his voice clearly sorrow filled.
"Apparently not, you nearly nicked me." He informed his good friend, but took a moment to observe him. He didn't look to be in a good mood at all. "What's up?"
"Nothing's up, everything's down. I feel like, like..." he shrugged his broad shoulders. "the forest went up in flames and is becoming nothing but debris. I feel so, angry. Hurt. Betrayed."
It all clicked in, the rumour about Ashlynn being proposed to at lunch - was truth. "You mean, it wasn't you that proposed to Ashlynn in the castleteria during lunch hour today?"
Rumour. A stinking rumour is what he wished it was, compared to the horrid truth. "No Dex, it wasn't me. I... I'm so mad. And upset, my heart hurts, my chest hurts, my head hurts. I don't know what to do."
He couldn't relate at all, in any way shape or form. But he knew when someone needed a friend, or someone to lean on during a time of need. Hunter needed a little bit, if not all the above about three times over - and then some. "Hunter, I..."
"Why did she say yes?" Hunter tossed his bag to the side, "Why would she do that?!"
Dexter sat down, Hunter taking the seat next to him. A mere tree trunk, but it proved to provide a great seat in a pinch. "Wait, wait. There's got to be a logical explanation for even the most irrational decisions. Hunter, think. What did Ashlynn say the last time she spoke to you?"
Hunter couldn't think, "Man I'm too worked up to think about anything right now."
Dexter could understand that easily, this had to be so hard for him. The girl he's madly in love with, whom he feels would be his happily ever after, whom he wants to have a future with - and she's not going to be with him after all? The whole thing was tragic. Stories sometimes were, but this couldn't have been a more unexpected twist. Poor guy. "I get that, but when you simmer down - think. Try to piece together what makes sense and what doesn't. Ashlynn's a logical girl, she's got a good head on her shoulders Hunter." He stood up, a hand on the other's shoulder. He gave it a supportive pat, "Don't stop thinking. I'll see you around."
After Dexter Charming was a safe mile or so away, Hunter kicked the tree stump he sat upon. Hot, embarrassed tears streamed down his face as his heart turned bitter slowly but surely. There wasn't a thing he could do now, and it truly killed him inside.
