A Royal Gone Rebel
Chapter Fourteen
Today was a big day for Ashlynn Ella. She was given full and absolute permission to return back to her own Kingdom after all she'd been through in the past little while. Looking back briefly, even though she hadn't left yet - it wasn't all bad. She got to learn so much about Roland, his hobbies and interests. Also his family struggles. It was a learning experience and never again will she judge a book by its cover - so to speak. She had her bags packed, her shoes mostly was all she had brought with her - she was ready to get going.
"Ashlynn, I must speak with you at once." Even though this was his way of asking, it almost felt like an interrogation from none other than the King himself.
She froze in place, "Sir?" she could not move at all. Was he upset with the fact she was leaving? Did he even know the agreement she and Roland had?
"I just want to thank you, for what you've done. You made my wife happy in her last moments when all she wanted to do was die. She did, but she did so with an eased state of mind, all due to you." He told her abruptly, like a commander instruction a soldier in his army.
"You're welcome, I'm glad I made it a bit easier for her. It wasn't a ploy. . . I genuinely wanted to spend time with her, just know that. She's always with you." Ashlynn gave the King's arm a gentle pat as some of the guards loaded her belongings. "Thank you," he looked astonished.
"For what?"
"For sharing her with me." With a simple nod, he helped Ashlynn into the carriage, to begin her journey homebound.

It was a long trip indeed, she nodded off to sleep here and there many times and wasn't positive, but thought she might have napped a couple hours or so. It wasn't long before the carriage came to a complete halt.
Ashlynn stretched and yawned, rubbing her tired eyes and opening the door to step out on her own when a hand reached for hers. Not just any hand. . . she recognized the hand all too well. She gasped, "Hunter?!"
"SURPRISE!" Everyone shouted it out in unison with some hollering and cheering to be heard for miles. Raven, Maddie, Briar, Apple, Daring, Dexter - everyone was there along with her beloved parents.
Looking around, her Kingdom was bright and colorful once again. Birds singing, trees replanted, grass beginning to grow just as radiant as it was before. Ashlynn was so overwhelmed she had no idea how to react, so she had tears of joy streaming down her cheeks. She let out a sob and held on to the carriage behind her. "G-uys, this is. . . amazing. It's - it's more than I could ever ask for. . ." she sniffled between words, trying to find the right ones to be able to express such gratitude.
The girls gathered around Ashlynn and hugged her, they were glad to have their dear friend back. After the rumour of marriage - they feared they'd never see Ashlynn again. "We missed you Ash," Apple said sweetly, being the last one of the girls to hug her.
"I missed you guys too."
"Question," Daring chimed in unexpectedly. "were you really married?"
Ashlynn wiped her eyes and nodded. "Yes."
"How did you leave?" Even though it seemed like a vast question, it was a good one. Even Ashlynn's own parents would've been curious also - had they not received the news themselves.
"It wasn't a matter of me leaving, Daring. He let me go - it's a long story and I'd rather not get into it. It's full of, personal information but after everything that happened - he let me come back. He tossed our marriage license into the fireplace - making it null and void and told me that I was free to come home." She explained quickly, leaving her friends slightly confused but they still couldn't be happier to see their dearest friend and her safe return home.

Ashlynn was still astonished. "I don't understand how they were able to fix everything to make it look so good for a second time."
Hunter lay a plaid tablecloth over a tree stump in the middle of their forest hide-out. "It took a lot of work, believe me Ash. But we're your good friends - we'll do whatever we can to help you."
Her cheeks blushed heavily, "Hunter. . . we're not just friends, right? I mean, do I still mean a lot to you? Or, are you disgusted with the fact that I truly was married a few days ago?" It was a thought in the back of her mind that she just couldn't shake. She had to know.
He shook his head, "Ashlynn you are the moon and stars to my night time sky. You know that, and unless what's happened in the past few months has caused you to forget - I'll remind you again." He leaned in close, kissing her forehead and then her nose. "You Princess, are my entire world. Without you, there's no existence."
She hugged him tightly, "Oh Hunter, without you I didn't feel there was a point to breathing anymore. I wasn't sure if you still felt the same." She didn't want to let go of him ever again - figuratively speaking of course.
He didn't dare part, she'd been away from him for far too long. "Ash, the feelings that I have for you and the feelings that you have for me - they aren't the kind that go away. They're not the kind that ever go away. I will be in love with you for the rest of my life, and I'm totally cool with that."
Just hearing Hunter speak and to feel him holding her - it not being a figment of her imagination anymore - it was amazing. She couldn't even describe the chill that ran down her spine. To her it felt on a whole different level. "I always thought of you, I always wanted you to be with me. I'd be smitten with the fact of you and I getting married tomorrow. But when I was married briefly to someone else it was torture - how I felt. It wasn't all bad, but the pain of missing you was unbearable. I love you so much Hunter, I can't even fathom the amount."
"It has no measurement. It's no one else's love but ours, right Ash?"
She nodded and grinned. "Right."

Hunter walked Ashlynn back to her palace the following early morning. They'd spent all night in the woods together. "There you are." Her father spoke suddenly, scaring the two fairytale teens.
"Oh! Daddy! Uh. . ." as if a deer stuck in headlights, she didn't know what to do first. Run, or shield Hunter.
He smirked ever so slightly, "On any other occasion, I might be angered. But I'm grateful that this boy you're sneaking around with, is the one you're still sneaking around with. Believe me, there's nothing more satisfying than seeing my girl living her life back to normal after making such a selfless sacrifice to save her Kingdom."
Soon her mother joined upon his arm. "Yes Ashlynn, your friends and. . . secret friend of yours," she referred to Hunter, watching the two adolescents blush. "worked extremely hard to get the Kingdom striving again. With all the events behind us, you can continue to live your life as you once knew it."
"Today is fine, but tomorrow - I'll be watching you, boy." Her father glared at Hunter briefly, before returning a semi-smile.
Ashlynn rolled her eyes but hugged Hunter tightly, "My parents like you Hunter, nothing can stop us now. Not even fate."
He kissed her cheek and held her hand. "Finally we're together," he pulled her into the familiar yet warm embrace. "and there's no one else I'd rather re-write my destiny with."
THE END
