DPOV
I spent the rest of that afternoon alone, the memories were too vivid, too real again that I knew if I were to be around anyone I would not have been able to hold my composure. So I perched atop a large tree limb that overlooked the largest section of the river behind the house, it was deep into the night now and the fresh breeze brought with it the evening scents of the forest, Owls, Mountain Lions on the evening hunt. I sat in rapt contemplation about my past until all that my mind could see was her face, that angelic, soft face, so warm and kind, those eyes that blazed with love and passion, the smile, which melted my very soul.
Edward's voice ran clean and clear in my mind. "What is troubling you?" "You already know." I returned. "Yes that is true but I want to hear you say it, only then will it become real enough for you to face it." He made a very good point. "I lost her Edward, I lost the one thing in my world that made any sense and it has taken me nearly 200 years to realise that." "David you cannot change that which has already come to pass, she is gone, I am sorry for your loss, for losing that which you hold most dear can scar a man." "Yes, and I am scarred."
With that his voice ceased, he was gone and I was once again alone. The ambient sounds of the forest filled the air, the scents filled my nostrils and I needed to hunt. I leapt off of my perch and landed on the opposite side of the river. I ran at full sprint deeper and deeper into the forest, my eyes darting from smell to smell until I found that which I longed for. When a Vampire like me succumbs to despair he is driven mad with thirst and when that happens he is very hard to control. Human blood. A hiker sitting alone by a campfire, I scanned the area, checking on whether or not this man had any company, luckily he was alone. And thus I sat for a while in the shadows observing him, I may not be able to control my thirst at this point but I still like to form some kind of bond with my kill, after all he is giving me life, therefore he deserves some form of kindness before he dies, my kindness is my time.
After a few minutes I was feeling the burn and so I rose and stepped out of the shadows into his field of view. "Oh Christ you scared me…care to join me friend?" They are always so polite to me. "Not tonight." I flash my teeth and give him a sly look. He catches on. "Now hold on just a minute Mister." SNAP. I had lost focus for mere seconds, he lay dead a few feet in front of me, his death, however, was not by my hands. The creature that stood before me looked at me through crimson eyes. "Hello stranger."
"Sarah…"
