"Damn, I'm almost there"

As Gold hiked deeper into the caves of Mount Silver, he began to get the feeling that his catch was near. Yes, the very thing that he was seeking was just up ahead.

FLASHBACK:

"I'm going to the next level", Gold said.

"Which is?"

"Mount Silver. I'm going to find Red, and become the real champion of the Johto region"

The security guard could do nothing more except stare at Gold, mouth-agape.

"Are you being serious? No man has ever survived a journey like this! Do you want to die?!"

"We'll never know what will happen until we find out, won't we?"

And with that word, Gold departed for the sole purpose of finding Red.

END FLASHBACK.

As he kept walking, Gold came to a cave. With great cautiousness and confidence, he entered the cave and saw, with his very own eyes, the one who he was seeking.

It was he! The great trainer Red!

Gold ran as fast as he could towards the champion until he was right behind him.

"I'm here", Gold said calmly.

"…"

"Let's roll", Red stated monotonously

It was at this point that the greatest Pokemon battle in history took place.

It took Gold more than twelve hours to overwhelm Red, but he successfully did it! He was the new champion and Red was defeated.

Gold said, "Good job, Red. You really are everything I expected.

Red simply stared at Gold for a few moments until he spoke.

"My mother…is she alive?"

"Of course, Red. She misses you though"

"…"

"It's my fault. It's all my damn fault. I left her alone. I left her there! While I was out by myself, she was worried about me!"

"Don't worry, Red! She knows you're alright!"

"…You may have beat me, but that title is nothing but a bad omen. I hope you're happy now".

And with those last words, Red simply vanished from his spot, never to be seen again.

Gold simply stood for about a few minutes, until he used an escape rope to leave the cold of Mt. Silver.

After this success, Gold achieved status as an international celebrity. Throughout Johto and the world, he was renowned as one of the greatest trainers that ever was or ever will be.

But because of this, Red was forgotten. Whenever spoken of, the topic simply changed to Gold and his great success.

Gold died some seventy years later as a living legend, but he was haunted by the spirit of Red who literally sucked the life out of him.

But Red died as a memory, and nothing more.
