Howdy! Just to say quickly, I wanted to get this chapter up now as I highly doubt I'll have the time in the next week as I've got a lot of family shizzle to sort out for the next few days etc. But didn't want to leave you guys without an update for a while, if you even care ;) but here it is anyway! Hope you enjoy, and once again thanks for the reviews, and a particular thank you to the people who have stayed with me chapter by chapter and continue to tell me what they think – you know who you are, you guys are amaze balls :)
Mark Sloan. It was the name every nurse knew, and they either craved it or despised it. Just a wink from the renowned plastic surgeon or a casual smile would send many of them into a giggling blushing frenzy, whilst others would have no qualms about showing their open disgust at his very existence. Over the years he had quickly made his way round most if not all of them, and there were a few remaining he had not yet 'spent time with,' as he called it around figures of authority, such as the chief. One of those untouchables was in fact, Eleanor Striden. The nurse everyone had heard of, the nurse every male fantasised about. Such a reputation had immediately grabbed Mark's attention, and today seemed to be his lucky day. There she was, by herself, slightly bent over as she read the selection of beverages available on the coffee machine. Mark smirked and took a good luck at her ass as he sauntered over, straightening his hair.
"Hi." He said, leaning against the machine, he flashed a reliable Mark Sloan grin at her, expecting the reaction to be the usual. To his dismay however, she simply glanced over, expressionless.
"What do you want?"
"I was just wondering what such a beautiful young woman is doing here all by herself, with no one offering to buy that coffee for her?" He tried again, folding his arms over his chest to show off his bulging biceps. Again, no response.
"I can buy my own coffee." She quipped back, shoving a few coins in the slot. "See?"
Playing hard to get huh?
"Oh I'm sure you can, I'm sure you're a..." His eyes took a tour of her body. "Very capable woman. I was merely offering my services as a gentleman." He cocked his head and flashed her another cheeky smile.
"Well thanks, but I'm declining your 'services'." She replied, before turning on her heel with her cup, and striding off. Catching sight of another nurse she knew, she smiled and waved, colliding with Cristina Yang as she did so.
"Watch it!" The resident scowled. She rolled her eyes and threw a filthy look back at Mark, as if it was somehow his fault.
Mark blinked with his mouth agape, still watching Ellie go, finding it hard to believe he had failed to woo her.
"Damn." He finally said aloud.
"So this is it?" Derek asked, breaking the five minutes silence that had passed.
Addison nodded. "I guess so."
They sat together on the end of Callie's bed. He'd knocked on her door early, before either of their shifts were due to start, claiming he needed to talk. Callie had begrudgingly left her warm bed and gone to Erica's to give them space, and thus they were left alone. He had confessed to his fling with Meredith, and she had found herself, not angry, but merely accepting. And looking at him right now, she found it impossible to be mad at him.
"I feel terrible." He said, hanging his head.
"Derek.." He looked up. "It's okay. You weren't the only adulterer in the relationship. And besides, I've been stupid not to see it." She said. He looked away, eyes full of guilt.
"Still, what I did was... So wrong. Our marriage is over."
"Derek, our marriage was over a long time ago." She replied, not unkindly. "Hey. Look at me." He obliged. She gave him a warm smile. "We can still be friends right?"
He wiped his eyes, and gave her a small smile of his own. "I'd like that." They held each others gaze for a while with a mutual understanding, until Addison placed something in Derek's hands. "Here. I hope it makes her as happy as it once made me." She leant forward and planted a gentle kiss on his forehead, and made her way to Callie's bedroom door. Looking back at him before she left, he mouthed the words "thank you." To her. She nodded, a smile still on her face, and left quietly. He sniffed loudly and looked down at his hands where her wedding ring lay in his palm. Rubbing a hand over his tired face, he placed it in his shirt pocket, and stood to go. Patting it as he did so.
"Hey." Ellie greeted her friend, Nurse Samantha Glover, as the two waited for their surgeons to arrive.
"Hey." Sam nodded. "Was that Mark Sloan I saw you talking to just now?"
"The plastics attending?"
"Yeah – that gorgeous asshole."
Ellie chuckled. "He tried it on with me but had no luck."
Sam shook her head. "He wont give up you know, not for a long while."
"Well he can try all he likes. The answer will still be no."
Sam tittered. "There's no saying no to Mark Sloan. He's slept with like.. Every girl here! Attendings, residents, nurses, interns, you name it, he's banged it."
"He sleeps with attendings?" Ellie asked, immediately thinking of Arizona. Would this man be another obstacle too?
Sam nodded. "Oh yeah, what, you think just cos they're his close colleagues that stops him? Nothing is a deterrent for that guy – he slept with his best friends wife for gods sakes. He's literally a walking penis." She sighed, and her eyes appeared to glaze over. "But such a hot one too."
Ellie scoffed. "That's insane. Who's his best friend? - or should I say 'was'?"
"Is still." Sam corrected her. "Derek Shepherd?"
Ellie looked at her questioningly. Sam went on.
"What you don't know?! Oh my god. Okay, so, Mark slept with Doctor Montgomery ages ago and they broke up, then, Derek leaves her and works here – and a bit later Addison shows up, right? Hoping to restore her marriage and all that, and, guess who arrives not long after? Mark!"
"wait wait hold up – Addison Montgomery had an affair?!" Ellie's eyes bulged with glee.
"Duh! Have you been living under a rock for the past few years? Everyone knows!"
"This is fantastic." Ellie muttered to herself.
"Huh?"
"Oh.. Nothing. I just never knew!"
"Yeah well, now you know what he's like – don't expect any commitment if you do sleep with him El."
"You have nothing to worry about." Ellie replied, her hands already in her pocket resting on her list. She was itching to start planning. She decided then and there that having gossipy friends was definitely a positive thing.
Addison had planned on sleep. Having not had the best week having to sort out her housing situation, speak to dozens of authorities, insurance company's, estate agents, and even builders, sleep was something that had not come easy for her recently. Thus, she was going to use this hours break to her advantage, having delegated some of her tasks to Alex, who was more than happy to accept.
That was the plan however, but as soon as she clicked the on call room door shut and turned to see the lower bunk was already occupied, her plans flew out the window. Arizona lay curled in the foetal position, mouth slightly open and blonde hair spread in waves over the pillow. Addison watched her for a few moments, adoration filling her heart, before tiptoeing over and climbing as carefully as she could into the bed next to the sleeping blonde. It was not careful enough however, as Arizona stirred, and rolled over groggily, a crease forming on her nose and her brow knitted together as she struggled to emerge from her dream.
"Sorry." Addison whispered, propping herself up on one elbow. "I didn't mean to wake you."
"Hey." Arizona replied, smiling when she realised who was in her bed. "This is the best sight I've woken up to all day." She reached up and planted a lazy kiss on Addison's lips, before shuffling over to make more space for the red head. They lay on their sides facing each other, and Addison began to trace delicate patterns over Arizona's arm, leaving a trail of goosebumps on her bare flesh.
"So I've got some news." Addison murmured.
"Oh?"
"I finally ended it with Derek. I'm a free woman!" She beamed, and Arizona appeared to brighten before her very eyes, her ear splitting grin being all that was needed in response.
"Really?"
"Yup. He came over this morning. It's not public news yet, though knowing this hospital everyone and their nans will know by sunset.""
"So you're... You're single now? Properly? As in getting-a-divorce single?"
Addison chuckled "100% Getting a divorce single. And you know what that means?"
"What?"
"It means we have a question on our hands."
Arizona frowned in confusion. Addison rolled over so she was leaning over the blonde, elbows propped on either side of her.
"Arizona Robbins." She stated in a formal tone, grinning playfully. "Will you be my girlfriend?"
Arizona's frown vanished and she giggled. "I'll have to think about that one." She joked. Addison gave her a devilish smile, and leaned down, capturing her lips. She cupped her face, and Arizona went to deepen the kiss, but Addison pulled back.
"Thought about it yet?"
Arizona laughed, and reached a hand round the redheads neck, pulling her back down. "Even better, I've made a decision." She replied, and this time Addison didn't pull back as they connected once more, this kiss instantly became passionate, flaring up as they let go of all the tension, all the anxiety and the waiting, the secrecy and the restraint. Each consumed in one another, Addison let out a moan as she felt Arizona's tongue collide against her own, and they fought for dominance in each others mouths. Addison spontaneously bit down on Arizona's bottom lip, causing her to gasp with desire, and in one swift motion she flipped the red head over so she was beneath her, never breaking the contact.
Their kisses became faster, filled with wanton desire, their hands were in a frenzy over each others bodies, each of them wanting to feel as much of the other as possible. Arizona moved down to Addison's neck, nibbling and kissing her way down to her collarbone. Addison's hands travelled to Arizona's lower back, where they found the hem of the blondes scrubs. Arizona felt the action, and sat up so Addison could have a better angle. She didn't hesitate, pulling the blonde's top up and over her head in one move, she was momentarily stunned as she came face to face with two full round breasts, concealed beneath an expensive looking lacy blue bra. Blue eyes searched her face as she continued to stare at her incredible body. She was perfect. A deep yearning suddenly surged between Addison's thighs as she felt the overwhelming need to touch the other woman, she propelled herself upwards and flipped them back over again, taking Arizona by surprise.
Finding herself in control now, Addison showered the blonde with urgent kisses, needing to show her what she felt, needing her to understand how overwhelming this was, how volcanic her emotions and desires were. It was Addison's turn to make a trail on Arizona's neck as she traveled south, and Arizona groaned as she felt a hand cup her concealed breast, massaging it as Addison made a path with her tongue to the blonde's cleavage. This bra was becoming far too much of a hindrance for Addison's liking. Using Arizona's highly responsive body to her advantage, she snaked her left hand under the blonde's arched back, until her fingers came into contact with the back of the bra. Moving her head back up to capture Arizona's lips again, she gently released the clasp and pulled it to the side, reaching back round to the blonde's front to remove the offending item completely. Arizona's eyes were wide, her breathing hitched, she didn't think she'd ever been so aroused, this was what she wanted, this was-
Knock knock knock!
"Dammit!" Arizona seethed as they simultaneously leapt apart, Addison flung herself to the end of the bed and grabbed the blondes shirt off the floor, handing it to her as she furiously wrestled with her bra strap, cursing, she flung her top back on, and marched to the door with a face like thunder, whilst Addison quickly straightened her hair and clothing.
"What?!" Arizona demanded as she opened the door, but her heart flew to her mouth as she saw who was standing there. "Oh! Ellie!" She said loudly and Addison immediately shrunk back, pressing herself flat against the wall and as far away from the door as possible. Arizona pulled the door in so it was sandwiching her body, blocking Ellie's view.
"What err.. What can I do for ya?"
Ellie took in her rumpled clothes, tinged cheeks and ruffled hair. Her eyes narrowed. "Can I come in?" She took a step forward and so did Arizona, pushing her body even further into the small space between the door and the wall.
"Err no! I'm.. I was sleeping."
She maintained eye contact, refusing to let Ellie's cool gaze intimidate her.
"Sleeping eh?"
"Yeah. Sleeping." Arizona's tone was blunt, her words a challenge.
Ellie's eyes narrowed further until they became suspicious slits. "Actually, I was looking for Doctor Montgomery." She breezed, changing course. Arizona didn't react. "Have you seen her?"
"Well unless she made a spiritual appearance in my dreams, then no. I've been asleep. Remember?"
Ellie lowered her eyes, and it was then she saw it. It was only a small mark, but it was unmistakable. Arizona had an obvious lipstick smudge on her neck, just below her jawline. In a flash, Ellie looked back up, not wanting to indicate she'd spotted anything.
"I see." She smiled sweetly. "Well sorry for disturbing you. Enjoy your.. Sleeping." She smiled that ever poisonous smile, and turned away, skipping lightly down the corridor. Arizona watched her go, unsure of why she felt a growing unease every time that girl was around, but it was always there. Shaking her head and ridding the girl away, she turned back to a hiding Addison, and opened her mouth to speak, but in that moment both their pagers went off, and they sighed at each other for the second distraction in a row. They both picked up the same message.
911 – Karev
"Looks like the tiny humans need us." Arizona exclaimed, making her way to the door.
"Oh – wait!" Addison quickly licked her sleeve, spotting the lipstick mark. She wiped it off hastily, and grabbed Arizona's hand, both of them aware time was now crucial.
"Good as new, now let's go partner!"
Teddy looked over the operating table and made eye contact with Cristina for the fourth time in a minute. Even under her mask, her star resident was so obviously unimpressed Teddy almost giggled. She wasn't sure what it was about Yang that she found so amusing, but even when she wasn't trying to be – it would only take a phrase, a word or even an expression from her protégée and Teddy would be in stitches. Now however, she was growing just as impatient as her friend, as she looked at the clock yet again. She sighed.
"Page her."
"We already did." Answered several voices of the surrounding interns and assistants.
"Page her again, last try."
A collective sigh was emitted as they all hit their pagers for Nurse Striden. Who as of yet was 15 minutes late and had failed to answer any of her calls.
"Doctor Altman, can't we just begin already? Get another nurse?" Yang huffed imaptiently. "One who isn't sleeping with Mark Sloan." She added as an afterthought.
"What?"
"Oh I saw him with her this morning, soooo yeah, they're probably doing it." She glanced back over at the clock. "Still."
Teddy frowned. "Why was she with Mark?"
Cristina looked at her. "You know, as enthralling as I'm sure her story is, I did not feel the need to stop and ask her."
"Hmmm." Was Teddy's response. She looked at the patient laying in front of her.
"Alright." She said after a while. "It's been too long, page Eli instead."
"Callie." Erica landed a hand on her girlfriend's shoulder, interrupting her conversation with Izzie. It had been awkward between the two for a long while, but in recent years they'd both matured and any tension between them had passed. Though not exactly best friends for life, they harboured a mutual respect for one another, and were able to have a friendly conversation from time to time.
"Hold on – so anyway, I told the guy his bone had a closed fracture, but he point blank refused to let me treat it, he said he needed -"
"Callie, now."
The latina turned, and knew just by looking at her partners face that this was important. "Sorry Stevens, I'll have to tell you the story later."
"No problem." Izzie smiled, nodding at Erica as she made her exit she she knew was now due.
"What's up?" Callie asked once they were out of ear-shot.
"I just spoke to Kepner, took me ages to bully it out of her, but she told me eventually.. Derek's cheating!"
Callie looked at her for a few seconds.
"Did you not hear me? Derek is sleeping with Meredith again!"
"Blimey that was quick!" Callie joked. Erica frowned, waiting for her to elaborate.
"Oh I forgot to tell you! Addie text me this morning, they've broken up." She smiled. Erica's frown did not fade.
"When, just this morning?"
"Uh huh."
"But Kepner told me it's been happening for two weeks."
It was Callie's turn to frown. "He had an ongoing affair?"
"Yeah! Which is important Cal, it's vital in fact! It's evidence!"
"I'm not following..." Callie replied, confused.
"Well it's a good think I'm not with you for your detective skills." Erica said dryly. "Don't you see? Now we know who trashed Montgomery's apartment!"
"We do? Who?!"
"It's the only person who fits the piece, the only person with any reason or incentive to go after Addison – technically it's her only enemy! It's obviously Meredith Grey!" Erica was excited, knowing full well she had a good accusation, all the reasons were there.
"Erica, have you seen Meredith? She's hardly one for pulling bunny boiler stunts." Callie was unconvinced.
"Why not? Do we really know her? And also, what was it you said was on the door?"
"A picture of... Oh."
"A picture of Montgomery and Shepherd. Now who else would that have any personal meaning to?" Erica concluded, but her question was rhetorical. She could see she'd won Callie over, her eyes were darting around as she processed the information.
"Shit." She breathed. "You really think it could be Meredith?"
Erica smiled grimly. "I think there's a very high chance it could be."
After going over and over their theory last night, the two had come to the conclusion not to tell Addison just yet until they had solid proof. Erica ensured she would drill Kepner more than ever for the details from now on, and Callie would keep track of Addison's whereabouts, just incase Meredith struck again. She thought it was highly unlikely, seeing as the 'Shepherds' had now broken up, Grey would have gotten what she wanted, and thus would have no further reason to attack Addison. This positive thought stayed in her mind as she entered the hospital. She was met by a heavy buzz of excitable chatter, and crowds were forming in various spots around the place, the atmosphere was heaving. There was definitely something going on here. Callie elbowed her way through the crowd nearest, gathered round the surgical board.
"What a whore." she heard someone say, followed by a groans of disgust from the girls and whistles of appreciation from the boys. Callie finally made her way to the front, and her jaw dropped at the sight. There, plastered in A3 over the board was a giant sheet in the form of a newspaper article, next to a very naked, very sexual photograph of her best friend, who was smiling coyly at the camera as she posed. It was an incredibly trashy, distasteful picture and Callie couldn't believe it was even her. But there was no mistaking that face. Her eyes travelled left to the title above it, which read in large, bold font.
Addison Forbes Montgomery: When Will It Stop?
The rest of the page contained small chunks of text, fashioned exactly like a news article. Callie read on in horror.
Doctor Addison Montgomery of Seattle Grace Mercy West hospital has had quite the year. From cheating on her husband Derek Shepherd (neuro) with plastic surgeon of the same hospital, Mark Sloan, causing the pair to break up, and resulting in the destruction of a beautiful friendship between the two best friends, Sloan and Shepherd. Eventually, it seems Shepherd, known to all as the famous 'McDreamy,' was foolish enough to take his cheating ex-wife back, and to no avail. Sloan has since been steadily making his way around the young women of this hospital, and, as these pictures reveal, it appears Montgomery is also unable to contain herself, as various men – both from inside the hospital and out of it – have stepped up to announce many nights of passion spent with our 'beloved' neonatal attending, with the evidence clearly in these photographs – taken from various locations, with various lovers, all whilst supposedly 'happily married.' We here at 'Surgeons Daily' warn the young men out there seeking commitment to abandon all hope now. The proof is in the picture, As shown time and time again, this woman is unable to be trusted, and is clearly only out for one thing. Regardless of the feelings of others, even those she married. The camera never lies. Therefore wewould like to speak out to Doctor Montgomery and ask the big question: When Will It Stop?
We certainly hope the answer is soon, for everyone's sake.
The growing fury Callie had felt as she'd read on threatened to engulf her. With great force, she tore the offending sheet off the wall, and was met with a chorus of disappointed moaning.
"This." She snarled, ripping it into pieces. "Is all lies!"
"You're only saying that cos she's your friend!" Someone piped up.
"Yeah – those photo's look pretty true to me!" Hollered a voice from the back. More laughter erupted.
"You're all pathetic!" Callie snapped. "Get out of my way."
"Good luck taking them down." A greasy looking intern sneered. "They're everywhere. And they're so hot!" He added. Callie was off like a homing missile, grabbing any and every A3 she could find. From what she could see, the text was the same on every piece, but lots of the pictures were different, and they were vile. Callie knew immediately they had to be fake, because she knew damn well that Addison would never even be in such compromising positions, let alone pose like that for some sleazy derogatory photograph. Looking at them though, she had to admit they were incredibly realistic, and thus extremely effective. Whoever had put these up must have a hefty ink bill on their hands, as that intern had been right - the papers were literally everywhere. Plastered in the most unusual of places.
On walls, on desks, chairs, the floor, beams and poles, she even saw Izzie Stevens emerge with a handful from the room where she and her fellow Orthopaedic surgeons kept their X-Rays. One had been slipped in every possible chart or folder going, and somehow, they had even managed to be stuck on the ceiling. There was a large cluster of them decorating the floor in the corridor as Callie followed the trail. It looked like the person had gotten bored and seemingly just flung a pile in the air. - either that or they had nearly been caught and ditched them.
"Callie!" Izzie called out, having chased her from the main entrance.
"Help me get rid of these. They're horrible." Callie said and Izzie simply nodded. She'd been in a similar position before, way back in her intern days when Alex had been a clear cut bastard. She had seen provocative photo's of herself decked out in Bethany Whisper lingerie taped on the walls for her colleagues to laugh at, and she had felt the brutal humiliation that followed. Seeing these however, she decided his stunt was nothing compared to this erotic massacre.. Whereas Alex's was simply meant to get his own back and embarrass her, this one had clearly been done in a bitter act of spiteful hatred. She gulped as she took down the latest one, taking in the graphic image. Yep, she'd gotten off pretty lightly compared to this. Looking at the 'articles,' she felt a great wave of pity and sorrow for her attending.
"That." Callie said, jerking her finger aggressively at Izzie's latest collection. "Is definitely fake. Addison can't even do the splits!" Izzie fought back a giggle, trying her best not to aggrivate Callie in her clearly flustered state as she hurled around, literally bouncing from wall to wall as she grabbed them. "If we hurry we can get these down before she gets here. We've got..." Callie checked her watch. "Shit – ten minutes. Thank god I came in early." Izzie nodded and quickened her pace.
Addison was not looking forward to the day ahead. She hadn't seen Arizona all evening as she'd been on the night shift, and that meant she would probably be sleeping all day, meaning Addison had to wait at least another twelve hours before she saw her again. She sighed and hoped for some interesting cases to pass the time, planning instead to spend some time with Callie and help tutor Karev.
She ran a hand through her red hair as she entered the hospital, and was immediately met with over a dozen sets of eyes and a stirring laughter from all angles. She stopped in her tracks, and looked down, checking her clothing. It seemed fine.. Did she have something on her face? Was it her hair? Her hands flew about over her appearance as she adjusted imaginary problems, getting increasingly flustered at the jeering looks and knowing smiles.
"Never knew you were so flexible Doctor Montgomery!" called out a young male resident, she recognised his face but couldn't place the name. She frowned, and trying to hide her growing panic, made her way to the reception desk.
"May I have my chart please?" She asked the elderly woman sat at the desk.
"You're disgusting." The woman sneered, as another nurse appeared with her chart, handing it to the older woman, she didn't look at Addison, but threw a quick "Dr Shepherd deserves so much better."
"What?" Addison called out to her, but she'd walked away. "What is she – what are you talking about?"
The woman eyed her in detest. "I think you know very well what we're talking about." She seethed, and then spotted something over Addison's shoulder.
"Don't even try to hide it! She should be ashamed!" She bellowed, and Addison turned to see where her attentions lay. It was Callie and Izzie, each clutching handfuls of something. Callie swore loudly when she realised she'd been spotted and stuffed what she was holding behind her back, Izzie's eyes immediately hit the floor – a sure sign of Stevens guilt. She marched over to them, ignoring the woman's comments behind her.
"What's going on Cal?"
"Err nothing, Stevens and I were just.. Taking a walk."
"Callie." Her tone was authoritative, she was not in the mood to be messed around.
"It's nothing you want to see." Callie muttered, whilst Izzie had not looked up once. Addison held out her hand. "Give it to me."
"No."
"Callie.. Please. I need to know what's happened."
"Trust me, you really don-"
"-Please Callie."
Callie looked up into desperate grey eyes and sighed, her hand swung back round to her front and she guiltily handed over the papers. Addison took them and studied the first one, her whole body going rigid and her face draining at the photograph. She became more and more pale as she read, her eyes darting from side to side in disbelief as she took in the words. Callie and Izzie looked at each other, worry reflected in both their faces.
Eventually, Addison spoke.
"Who did this?" She said through gritted teeth.
"We don't know.. We found them on the walls when we came in, they were.. Umm they were all over the hospital." Izzie babbled quickly, her stare having returned to her converse yet again. Just then, Derek rounded the corner angrily clutching his own handful. When he saw her, he stormed over, eyes ablaze.
"What the fuck is this Addison?" He roared, throwing them at her feet as hard as he could.
"Derek please, I have no idea wha-"
"I don't want to hear it! There I was feeling terrible, feeling awful, thinking I'd done the worst thing in the world, thinking I'd hurt you.. When it turns out you were playing me for a fool the whole time?!"
"Derek you have to listen to me, I-"
"I don't want to hear it! Don't even bother trying to worm your way out of it, these details are pretty fucking accurate don't you think!" He gestured angrily to the pile at his feet. "They know all about out divorce, they even know it was Mark who caused it! They know-"
"Derek, everyone knows about Addie and Mark." Izzie interjected, but he silenced her with an icy glare.
"Is it true?" He demanded. Turning back to Addison, his hair almost as wild as his eyes.
"No! Derek, do you honestly think I would cheat on you again?!"
"You know what.. I don't even care if it is true. We're done anyway, I'm with Meredith now. A woman that actually has a heart." He glanced down at the picture leering back up at him. "A woman who has morals." He spat, and stormed off, leaving her to pick up the collection of papers.
"Addison!" Another male voice called, this one sounding worried. She stood angrily, coming face to face with Mark Sloan as he rushed over.
"You son of a bitch!" She bellowed and her hand instinctively connected with his face, slapping him with such a force that Callie and Izzie heard the sting of it echo of the walls. "What the fuck do you think you're playing at! What is this?!"
He clutched his face, more hurt than he was letting on.
"Addison! I didn't do this!"
"Then who did Mark?! Who else have I given personal photos too besides Derek? And judging from his reaction – I'm pretty sure it's not him! How could you do this to me? You're the most arrogant, sexist -"
"Addison!" He grabbed her by the shoulders, cutting her short. "Would you just listen? If you bothered to look at these photo's, you may noticed you never sent anything like this to me – ever! Sure I wanted your hot pics, but I didn't want this!" He grimaced and waved his hand over a particularly degrading one. "Did you even take a second to realise this isn't actually your body?" He demanded, holding one up in front of her face. She grabbed it and scrutinised, before turning back to the one in Callie's hands.
"But what about that one? I-"
"Oh please." Mark scoffed. "Every girl poses like that, that's the most generic thing I've ever seen. Not that your original wasn't special." He winked at her but she didn't smile. "But look." He said, taking it from Callie. "Even this one isn't actually you. See that mole? That aint' yours, your shoulders are bare." He said, giving her time to absorb what he was saying. She studied more of the photo's. He was right, they were all photo-shopped. None of them being her, even if she had sent him a similar one before, the one Callie had was in a completely different location too, and she suddenly felt incredibly naive and stupid to not have spotted it.
"How could you tell?" She asked, unsure what else to say.
He shrugged. "I'm a plastics guy, we notice these things. And anyway," he plucked a specific one from Izzie's collection. "I highly doubt you'd ever do this." He held it up to her and she cringed and looked away. "Exactly." He shook his head. "This isn't cool."
They stayed with her for the rest of the day, Callie, Izzie and Mark. Reassuring her and tearing apart anyone who dared make a snide comment. Mark in particular was very defensive, sitting next to her now in the canteen, he was reluctant to leave her even when he was called to surgery.
"Seriously Mark it's okay, Avery needs you." Addison gave him a half hearted smile. Which he briefly returned. "You sure?"
"Honestly it's fine. You've done enough. Thank you.. and I'm sorry."
He nodded, understanding the apology, and patted her hand.
"Text me later?"
"Will do." She smiled. As he left she checked her phone for the umpteenth time, yet Arizona had not returned her calls or her texts. Callie looked over.
"She'll call when she's awake. Don't worry about it." She said, and Addison agreed, though hated the wait. She didn't want to be selfish and wake her up, but she knew she needed to tell her before the news reached her another way, and plus, the vulnerable part of her really needed the blonde's presence about now.
"Doctor Montgomery?" a voice she didn't know. She looked up and was greeted by a doctor she'd never even seen before, built like a bear with quite a small face, he adopted a sly grin as he held out the piece of paper.
"Will you sign this for me babe?"
She shoved it away in disgust, and Callie hurled her drink in his face.
"arghhh what the hell? You stupid bitch you got it in my eyes!"
"What's your problem asshole?!" Alex Karev squared up to him, having just witnessed the incident from his own table. The other doctor wiped his face and rounded towards Alex, making himself look as big as possible.
"What's it to you scumbag?"
Alex glared. "She's my friend, and you need to watch your step."
"Dude, have you seen those pictures? I know I need to watch my step!" He guffawed, but it was quickly cut off as Alex grabbed him viscously by the scruff of the neck.
"Get out."
The man reached forward smugly and clasped Alex's forearms. "Gunna make me?"
Alex gripped harder and thrust the man back, shoving him into the drinks machine by their table, his eyes went wide in surprise. "Do you want me to?!" Alex lifted the man up further so his toes scraped the floor as he struggled for breath.
"Alex." Addison had risen and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "That's enough."
Alex was breathing heavily, furious and fighting the urge to take the man's head off. Eventually he seemed to compose himself, and let go. The man's weight dropped and he stumbled away, his look a mixture of fear and anger as he stepped back.
"Sorry." Karev muttered, straightening his lab coat. "That guy just got on my nerves, talking to you like that. What a douche."
Addison was touched by his protectiveness, and she put another hand on his shoulder.
"Well thank you. I've no doubt there'll be plenty more snide remarks from him and others like him, but thank you."
"I know you didn't do it." He stated proudly, nodding towards to abandoned last photo on the table. "You're not like that."
Once again she was touched at his kindness. "No, it's not me." She confirmed, turning back to the worried eyes of her friends at the table.
"Dude, someone is really out to get you." Alex half joked, screwing up the article and tossing it into the nearest bin.
Addison nodded grimly. Callie's eyes travelled over to Alex's previous table where Meredith sat, looking far too happy for Callie's liking as she chattered away to Cristina.
"They definitely are." She muttered to herself.
Sat at a table not too far from the group was Ellie and her nurse friends. They had all watched the incident, and their reactions varied, but she was pleased to see that most, if not all, had lost all respect for Addison, as they proceeded to chat about her in distaste. In fact, Addison Montgomery had been the talking point of the whole hospital, mainly in the desired negative way. Ellie couldn't have hoped for anything better. The night of no sleep and the dangerous evasion of people on the night shift had been worth it. The hospital had been pretty quiet anyway and she'd been lucky. People really were far more unobservant in the night shift, everyone hated it.
She had however, steered well clear of the peds wing. Well aware that Arizona was one of those night shifters, and had waited until she'd left in the early hours of the morning before she decorated the main entrance. It had been exhausting and she'd spent more time waiting around or hiding than actually sticking the articles up, but judging by the unexpectedly huge reaction this morning, it had well been worth her while. Photo-shopping it had been difficult, but with her fresh-off-the-market software, she was able to make it perfect, even skipping Teddy's surgery yesterday to start her art. She also praised herself on the newspaper idea, knowing the accurate facts would easily make the blatant lies more believable.
I truly am something special.
She thought to herself as she quietly slipped her list out of her pocket, checking to see the table were still absorbed in conversation, she ticked 'Reputation' off her list. A gleeful smile emerging on her face and crinkling her tired eyes. This was too easy.
Thank you! :)
