Chapter 2 | Meeting

Yui could see the car out of the corner of her eye, but by then it was too late. She barely felt the impact of the speeding car, she only felt the pain. Her world was then swallowed by darkness.

Yui could barely breathe. She could hear beeping, and meaningless words. Her eyes slowly opened, and she saw her mother's beautiful face. She tried to move her arms, but they wouldn't move. She then tried to move her toes, but they wouldn't move either. She was beginning to get scared.
"Mom," she started. "Why can't I move?"
"Well, Yui, you're paralized."
It was then that Yui's dreams came crashing down.

"Is this channel okay?"

Yui nodded. "Yeah."

Her mother smiled, then left the room. Yui sighed, turning her head towards the TV. On the screen, a rock band was was doing a live concert. Yui wished she could do that. But she knew she couldn't.

Suddenly, a baseball sailed through the window, breaking it. It landed on the foot of her bed. Luckily, she wasn't harmed in any way. Her mother was at her side in less than a minute.

"Yui! Are you alright?"

She nodded. "I'm fine."

The doorbell rang.

"I'll be right back, okay?"

"Okay," Yui whispered, but her mother was already downstairs.

She could hear voices downstairs, but she couldn't quite make them out.

"I think I might have broken your window..." The voice was familiar, but she didn't know why.

Soon, a boy with blue hair stepped in, her mother close behind. He looked at her, then at the broken window.

"I'm Hinata. Sorry for breaking your window..."

"I'm Yui. Don't worry about it."

"I'll marry you!"

"I said no matter the handicap! Even if you couldn't walk, even if you couldn't have kids, I'd still marry you today. The Yui I met here wasn't a fake. You're Yui. Even if there was only a one in seven billion chance of us meeting, I'd still marry you."

"I'd be playing my baseball. I'd send a ball right through your window, and when I'd go to retrieve it, you'd be there. We'd start talking and we'd have so much fun that I'd start visiting every day. Yes, that's how we'd meet."
