Chapter 3- Boredom
Connor sat cross legged on the cold concrete floor, tapping his fingers aimlessly on his Anomaly detector, he sighed frequently and occasionally glanced at the two people that accompanied him in the room; Captain Becker was casually leaning against the rotting wooden door frame clutching his gun, almost like his life depended on it, and Lorelei Swan; laying on her back staring into space as she cracked her knuckles, Connor winced as she did this, Becker raised an eyebrow but didn't seem too bothered. They had all been ordered to guard the anomaly, while the rest of the team checked to see whether there had been an incursion, it had been two and a half hours and nothing had happened.
Lorelei shifted on the floor to make herself more comfortable, she hummed quietly and started to plait a random piece of hair, Connor stood suddenly and stretched whilst Becker slid down the wall and sat, laying his gun down next to him, making sure it was still in reach. He sighed and checked his watch, to put it simply; he was bored.
"You alright there soldier boy?" Connor's voiced filled the once silent room; Becker glared at the young scientist,
"Is it always this-"he struggled to find the right word, "dull?"
Lorelei laughed, "When you forget to charge your phone so you can't go on Facebook, yeah."
Becker gave the girl an amused glance, it was obvious that what she had just said had actually happened to her; he noted the frown that formed on her face as she had said it.
"My phones charged." Connors teasing voice broke through Becker's thought, as he broke eye contact with Lorelei, he saw that Connor was now waving his phone in front of Lorelei. The girl scowled and quickly lay back down, secretly trying to fight the urge to hit Connor.
There was something about the stroppy brunette that intrigued Becker, she seemed happy enough, laughing and joking with Connor and Abby, but there was something, he'd noticed it on the day he had first met her, it was a very strong emotion. Anger? Fear? Becker hadn't figured it out yet, but he was sure he would. She seemed so innocent and young, too young to be dealing with the death of a best friend. He surveyed her position on the floor, it really didn't look comfortable, her different shaded hair was odd but it suited her, light brunette at the top and dark, almost black at the tips, it was different but he liked it.
He hadn't noticed that Connor had moved and was now sitting opposite him in the doorway,
"She'll be okay, she just needs time," Connor sighed, "I just wish I knew how to help y'know?"
The Captain nodded, but said no more, he quickly grabbed his gun and walked towards the anomaly, not because he needed to, but because it made him look like he was doing something other than staring at the petite girl lying on the ground, he leant against a crate and started fiddling with the safety catch on his pistol.
It clicked. It clicked again. And again. And again. Lorelei sat bolt upright and stared at the Captain who was being as annoying as humanly possible,
"Could you stop that? Please."
Becker obliged and put his pistol on the crate he was leaning against, she sighed loudly and stood up to stretch her legs, she moved slowly and stiffly to the doorway Connor was occupying, she towered above him as she spoke in a hushed tone,
"Was there a reason that you and mighty Captain Becker were staring at me?" She raised an eyebrow at her friend who was now looking at his feet sheepishly, she heard a mumbled response;
"We're worried about you." Lorelei shook her head at this statement and stared into the distance as she spoke,
"There's no need to be I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?" she was irritated, she was dealing with Stephens death in her own way, Connor was about to answer but Lorelei stopped him,
"I don't need you or Action man poking your nose in, alright?" she didn't wait for an answer; instead she stormed into the empty courtyard, and sat in her car. She stayed there until Nick and the others came back.
This was a bit of a filler, but I hoped you liked it.
